Chapter 618 Fimbulwinter
Chapter 618 Fimbulwinter
Peter was at Gwen's house when he found out about it.
Don't get me wrong, he didn't do anything at Gwen's house, he just helped Gwen with her summer homework. After all, Gwen really spent a lot of time this summer working on the Ghost Spider.
Gwen was also very puzzled as to why Peter Parker could maintain stable grades while being busy as Spider-Man. She felt that if she continued to be Ghost Spider, not only would she be less and less involved in the band, but her grades would also decline.
Just as the two were working on the math problem, Peter received a text message. He took out his phone, glanced at it, and said to Gwen apologetically.
"Sorry, Gwen, something's come up with with the Avengers, I have to go now."
"Hmm? Oh, I'm fine. Just call me if you need any help."
Peter, holding his phone and donning his nanotech suit, teleported to Avengers Tower, only to find an unprecedented gathering. Not only was Thor present, but even Black Panther in Wakanda had chosen to participate in the meeting via video.
Of course, Peter also noticed Namor, who was sitting on the sofa looking like a frozen fish jerky, and cast a curious glance at everyone.
Meanwhile, Saul was explaining the cause and effect he knew.
"The Casket of Winter is a terrifying and powerful artifact. It contains the Fimbulwinter of Ymir, the creator giant, which plunges the entire world into a perpetual freeze with no daylight."
"A weather weapon that could send the whole world back to the Ice Age is a real pain to think about."
Tony nodded in understanding, but then asked Thor with some confusion, "According to you, this thing is so powerful, how could it have been stolen? That's ridiculous!"
Peter, after speaking quietly with the captain, roughly understood what had happened. A surface energy organization was planning to conduct underwater exploration in a city in Atlantis when they encountered Namor.
However, the plot took an unexpected turn. Instead of being driven away or killed by Namor, something else happened: Namor's subordinate, Kron, launched a rebellion, instigating a large number of Atlantean soldiers to mutini.
Namor quickly realized something was wrong, so he led his personal guard to fight the rebels. To everyone's surprise, the rebels pulled out the Winter's Chest and froze the entire Atlantean army.
Meanwhile, Thor in Asgard learned from his brother Heimdall why the Casket of Winter had been stolen. Loki's henchman, the Enchantress Amora, had stolen the Casket and given it to Kron, the warlord of Atlantis. After questioning Loki, Thor immediately rushed to Atlantis and rescued Namor.
So the question returns to Tony's earlier question: why was such an important treasure so easily stolen?
Faced with this question, Thor looked somewhat dejected: "Because of Ragnarok."
When discussing Norse mythology, one cannot avoid mentioning its destined ending: Ragnarok. Asgard will collapse, and the entire Nine Realms will be utterly destroyed in an eternal war—something no Norse god would ever wish to prevent.
But what does this have to do with Atlantis?
"So...you mean freezing Atlantis with this ice box is also part of Ragnarok?"
As Tony spoke, he glanced at the dejected and distraught Namor beside him, then asked curiously. But this didn't sound like a normal procedure. Thor, unusually, sighed and explained what was about to happen. "My father, Odin, the Almighty Father, sacrificed his right eye to the World Tree to gain omnipotent wisdom, and thus saw the future of Ragnarok. First, my brother, Baldr, the God of Light, will perish tragically. Then, the Casket of Winter will be opened, and Fimbulwinter will begin. Asgard will lose its spring, summer, and autumn seasons, and Odin will be unable to enter slumber to maintain his power. Subsequently, the Nine Realms will descend into chaos due to disease and war, and tyrants and villains will rise."
Finally, the rising thugs will destroy Asgard, twilight will come, and the gods will fall.
Everyone listened carefully to the prophecy etched in human mythology, and then Tony looked at Thor: "Are you sure this box wasn't opened last year? The one when your brother led the Chitauri army to invade New York?"
“...I’m pretty sure Fimbulwinter hasn’t come yet, Stark.”
"That's great, it seems our world is still incredibly peaceful."
After Tony finished his antics, Banner picked up the thread: "So, your father deliberately let this box be stolen? Because your brother isn't dead yet, and if he could trigger Fimbulwinter ahead of time, he could break the prophecy, am I right?"
That's my guess.
"Guess?" Banner asked curiously. "Don't you have any evidence?"
“My father remained silent about this…”
"So you listened to Loki."
The captain was speechless. Could Loki's words be trusted? If Loki's words could be trusted, the world would be at peace long ago.
Thor paused for a moment, then glanced at Namor. After hearing Thor's speculation, Namor remained silent. He had just desperately asked the Avengers for help, which made him feel quite embarrassed.
But the Avengers still decided to help.
“I don’t know what your opinion is of Loki, Thor. But from what we’ve heard, all of Loki’s plans revolve around conquest and revenge. Whatever his reasons for working with the Atlantean opposition, he’s definitely after the Avengers.”
The captain looked at Thor, temporarily pulling him out of the conjecture that "it's all Odin's conspiracy," and then looked at everyone behind him, beginning to assign tasks: "Tony, Banner, Pym, you are responsible for researching the Winter's Chest and seeing if there are any technological means to detect and suppress its effects."
"King T'Challa, I need Wakanda's help in monitoring the ocean floor. Your technology is more advanced, and you're closer. Spider-Man, go contact the Sorcerer Supreme; we need the magical world's assistance. Bumblebee, see if we can contact any other friends."
"Thor." The captain finally looked at Thor: "According to what you said, you may be the only one who can withstand the power of the Winter's Chest. I need you to scout out the situation in Atlantis. Don't act rashly. We don't know the purpose of the enemy's daring to act so openly."
"Everyone, act as instructed."
Chapter Two will be posted a little later, before 7 PM.
