Chapter 294 Inspector Stacy

"So, when the power came back on, I went to check on the damage around me and saw a lot of thieves who had been knocked to the ground with baseball bats. They all said they didn't know who had knocked them out. So, either a master stealth fighter knocked them out, or an invisible man did it."

Gwen Stacy, the Invisible Man, sat in the back seat of the car with an awkward yet polite smile. Peter, sitting next to her, looked slightly uneasy and quickly changed the subject: "Uncle George, didn't you become a police inspector? Are you still running around?"

The ranks of police officers in the NYPD undergo a significant change starting from the inspector level. Specifically, there are three ranks: Constable, Detective, and Sergeant. Constables are frontline officers who are required to be on duty. However, once you reach the inspector level, you are generally no longer responsible for responding to calls and instead stay in the office.

Sheriff George was promoted because of his dedication during the Symbiote Frenzy incident, his numerous trips with NYPD officers to confront various supervillains, and his role in getting Kingpin, the NYPD officer, into jail—though considering he was only in his forties, he was still considered young and accomplished.

"I can never stay idle. It's fine when I'm working, but if I run into someone on the street, I'll try to help them if I can."

As Inspector Stacy spoke, she escorted Peter and Gwen to the entrance of Midtown High School. It was unusual for her to see all the children to school today. After waving to her father, Gwen suddenly blurted out something.

"I haven't told my dad about our dating."

"Should I... ask why?"

Gwen just smiled and said, "It's nothing, it's just that the date didn't work out, and I feel a little embarrassed... Did you fight that Electro guy the night before last?"

The name Electro was actually suggested by JJJ. The old man hated the guy for causing a nearly two-hour power outage and blowing up a huge hole in Times Square, and he kept criticizing him loudly—and also cursing Spider-Man a couple of times.

"Yeah, overall it's alright, no one was hurt, but that guy didn't want to be captured, so he chose to self-destruct."

"Are you hurt?"

Peter shook his head matter-of-factly: "No."

Gwen breathed a sigh of relief. During those two hours, she had started to worry after seeing a person covered in lightning flying overhead and after receiving a warning from Peter that she was safe.

Electro absorbed the power of all the running appliances, making it impossible for Gwen to contact Peter. At that moment, she felt a panic she had never experienced before, a fear of not knowing if he was safe.

I have no way of knowing if he's safe. I've asked, but no one has answered. I wonder if he's gone to fight some enemy I can't handle and ended up getting hurt or even falling down...

Spider-Man's strength has grown stronger and stronger, making it easier for him to deal with enemies, but this does not stop Gwen's worries.

Peter seemed to sense Gwen's worry and reassured her with a smile, "Don't worry, I can protect myself."

Gwen couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. There was absolutely no credibility to what he said. The probability of Peter Parker prioritizing his own safety in a battle with the enemy was even lower than the probability of him confessing his feelings to her.

But she said nothing, taking Peter's words as correct.

"So... when is our next date?"

Peter was taken aback by those words and quickly looked at Gwen, who looked at him with a puzzled expression: "What's wrong? Since we've already gone on a date once, why can't we go on another one? You didn't reject me."

Peter was somewhat stunned, and Venom added a timely comment.

Logically speaking, there's no problem. But is there really no problem?

They date you because they want mating rights, which you haven't given them, so it's perfectly reasonable for them to continue. It's natural for creatures to fight each other for mating rights; it's a natural law of your planet.

Peter walked into the school gate, his head full of questions.

Of course, there's another scenario: an individual is powerful enough to dominate the mating rights of most members of the opposite sex. This is undoubtedly true for all animals.

Having already guessed that if he asked Venom, "I'm not an animal," he would be met with Venom's response, "Why aren't humans animals?" Peter simply muttered, "Why should I listen to your nonsense..." and abruptly ended his conversation with Venom.

However, Gwen clearly misunderstood Peter's words.

"what?"

“I was talking nonsense about Venom in my head.” Peter pointed to his head and explained to Gwen, then smiled helplessly: “So, uh, the Invisible Man Uncle George was talking about…”

"Yes, it was me. My arms are a little sore from swinging the baseball bat. Luckily, I play the drums."

“You know you’re just making people forget you exist, not really disappearing, right? Bullets can still hit you.” Peter stopped in front of Gwen’s cabinet and reminded her.

“I’m walking behind them, not right under their guns,” Gwen said, replying with Peter’s words: “Don’t worry, I’ll protect myself.”

After watching Peter walk away, she began to think about whether she should study harder so that she could be reassigned to a different class in the second year and be in the same classroom as Peter.

...Let's think about it later. For now, let's think about our next date, or to put it simply, where to go for fun.

Meanwhile, Peter walked into the classroom. From the Cosmic Cube Crisis to the Zombie Universe and Electro, he had been working non-stop. The power outage the night before last had also excited Harry, who even skipped over the fact that the two girls had been talking about Peter on the way back from Puerto Rico: "What happened the night before last? Tony Stark actually provided free electricity."

"I thought JJJ had explained it clearly enough..."

"He just said that a Lightning Spider-Man has appeared, and that Webbase has a new suit."

Cindy, sitting on the side, was also very interested, mainly because she had felt Peter move at an incomprehensible speed that night.

"In order to capture Electro, the Avengers designed a supersonic suit for me, powered by my bioelectricity, that's it."

"So from now on, you're the fastest."

"No, the new suit consumes too much power. Unless Thor is right behind me or something similar happens, I can't run for very long..."

Peter was talking when he noticed that Amadeus was absent from school. Just as he was about to ask him a few questions, the school bell rang, and the teacher who came in announced something: "Okay, students, here's some news. In December, Osborne Technology has invited our school's first-year students to visit their science center. If you have anything to do, please remember to ask for leave in advance."
