Chapter 217 Symbiote Frenzy and Thunderous Might
Chapter 217 Symbiotic Frenzy - Thunderous Force (Seeking monthly votes at the end of the month)
The symbiotic dragon Grendel is the most powerful enemy the Avengers have ever encountered.
Even the Chitauri army relies on overwhelming numbers to suppress the Avengers. So far, the Avengers have not encountered an enemy whose attacks are almost entirely ineffective. The attacks on the scene are almost all distractions and cannot harm Grendel at all. The only two effective attacks come from Johnny the Human Torch and Jack of Hearts, but the damage is very limited.
The enormous symbiotic dragon spewed flames, striking Goliath, who crashed heavily onto the high-rise building. Below, the captain and his team quickly took cover and resumed their attack.
"Tony, have you guys thought of a solution?"
As the captain questioned them, he took down a symbiote minion that approached from the roadside. He had no choice; he couldn't fly, and he was no match for the dragon. He could only try to stop the overwhelming swarm of symbiote enemies from the ground. To prevent the high-frequency sound waves from interfering with their movements, the captain also shut down the sonic transmitters at the base of Avengers Tower, leaving only the Ultron robot to continue its sonic attacks on the symbiotes that crossed their lines.
In truth, even Captain America didn't want to come, but Captain America standing there meant the battle wasn't over, meant they hadn't given up. As long as Captain America remained there to continue the defense, they still had hope.
So the captain had no choice but to stand here.
"Uh, it'll take some time." Tony was working at the Baxter Building, while Hank, now shrunk, examined Reed's latest research findings. They had collected some symbiote samples on the street for research, but the results weren't yet...
That's very satisfying.
"We got our inspiration from the glacier and the Iceman guy. Symbiotes are afraid of fire and sound waves, but at the same time they must also follow the most basic laws of physics. At low temperatures, their molecular motion slows down, so Reed is designing a kind of, well, anti-symbiote material clothing using his polymer materials. But there's not much progress yet; we can only achieve a 12-second delay."
Would a 12-second delay be useful? Maybe, but not much, so Tony and the others didn't think it would work at all. The captain sighed helplessly. Well, if that's the case, then they'll just have to fight on their own.
Currently, the main force preventing Grendel from getting close is Goliath, Ant-Man's old comrade-in-arms, who uses his giant size created by Pym Particles to forcibly block him. Then there's Iceman, who tries his best to trap Grendel.
"I can't find anything."
Having escaped from Grendel's body, Ghost helplessly reported to the captain: "That guy's body is full of that pitch-black stuff. He's not some dragon possessed by a symbiote; he's a whole symbiote that looks just like a dragon."
"careful!"
Emma Foster's voice exploded in everyone's minds, and then Iceman immediately erected a huge ice wall to resist Grendel's next burst of flames. The black flames were barely stopped, and then Jack of Hearts, Human Torch, and Living Lightning launched another attack on Grendel.
This time it was different, but not in a good way.
The three people were suddenly thrown into the air. Then, a figure gradually emerged from the back of the symbiotic dragon. Nar, dressed in black armor, looked at the people who were resisting him with some dissatisfaction and helplessness: "Truly... disappointing. I thought the guardians of this world would be more capable. I didn't expect that they couldn't even stop my pet from advancing."
"If it weren't for your symbiote's elusive nature, we would have had Hulk take you down long ago." Everyone present thought this in unison, but Nar merely smiled and drew a black symbiote longsword. "It seems your motivation is still a bit lacking. How about this: the lives of everyone inside this tower—perhaps that will make you more serious?"
Peter, who had arrived, initially intended to immediately jump into action, but suddenly stopped. He simply sat in Jameson's car and even helped Jameson adjust the camera angle to make the live stream clearer.
“You don’t seem very worried, Spider-Man.”
Despite his dislike for superheroes who kept their identities secret, Jonah Jameson still asked Spider-Man why he seemed so at ease. Peter, of course, couldn't say it was because his spider-sense was rapidly diminishing; he simply activated his super-sensory abilities and calmly replied to Jonah, "Didn't you hear me, Jonah?"
"What did you hear?"
"thunder."
A giant rainbow stretched across the sky in front of Avengers Tower, and endless dark clouds suddenly enveloped the sky above Manhattan. Lightning and thunderclaps shone brightly, keeping Manhattan clearly visible even through the clouds.
A deafening clap of thunder erupted, and the biomass of the symbiotes nestled among the Manhattan buildings rapidly disintegrated. Symbiotes howled in agony as they crumbled, leaving only ashes. One by one, individuals broke free from the symbiotes' control amidst the lightning, with only a few immune to the sound waves remaining. Like vampires drawn to sunlight, they sprinted towards the wreckage of the Aegis carrier.
The rainbow-like bridge of light gradually dissipated, leaving only a golden-haired, blue-eyed god dressed in shimmering silver armor and wearing a silver helmet, suspended in mid-air, gripping his divine hammer and aiming it at Nar.
"Listen up, Gnar! My name is Thor, God of Thunder, son of Odin, prince of Asgard!" Thor stared intently at Gnar and declared, "This world is under my protection!"
The thunder, the lightning... it turns out that this guy sealed himself inside Grendel's body back then.
Nar frowned, then laughed. He raised his hand, and Grendel flapped his wings, carrying him towards the nest they had previously built. He landed on his throne, settling indifferently, while Riot returned to his side.
"My lord, why..."
"Gods are troublesome creatures no matter which world they're in. Even Grendel can't guarantee a win. But they were going to get a victory anyway, and things have just gone too smoothly."
Nar clapped his hands with a smile, and Hulk, covered by an enhanced symbiote, emerged.
"Besides, we have monsters to deal with that so-called Thor, don't we?"
