Chapter 176 The Avengers Meeting

"How long until our pajama baby arrives?"

On the top floor of Avengers Tower, Tony asked how long it would take for Peter to arrive, while Ant-Man Hank, completely baffled as to why a meeting was being held, just wanted to get back to his office: "He should be here soon. Isn't he a student? Is there some meeting he absolutely has to attend?"

“This meeting can’t be without him. Look, even Hulk is here, sitting on the floor, waiting for everyone to arrive.” Tony said, gesturing to Hulk who was sitting on the floor: “You can tell how troublesome today’s meeting is.”

"A stupid meeting, a stupid thing to do."

Hulk made the above sharp comment.

"Let's wait patiently, everyone."

In the end, the captain stepped in to smooth things over: "Since Tony is so serious, it must be something very important."

Yes, since Tony Stark is so serious, something big must have happened.

Peter, dressed in a black suit, landed safely in the courtyard outside and came in. As soon as he entered, Tony snapped his fingers, and holographic images appeared around him, making everything look normal from the outside. Then, one protective wall after another rose up, trapping everyone inside.

Of course, it's actually impossible to trap them; for one thing, Hulk is still here.

Peter looked at everyone with a slightly confused expression. Seeing that they all looked bewildered, Tony explained, "Don't make a fuss, kid. I'm just doing what you said. I shut down Jarvis, activated all the defenses, and turned off all electromagnetic signals, except for this reactor in my chest. And all of this is for—"

Tony took the super soldier serum test tube out of the safe and placed it on the table. Captain America jumped to his feet: "Hydra."

“Yeah, Captain, surprised?” Tony chuckled with a hint of sarcasm. “Hydra is still alive. They haven’t stopped working during the seventy years you’ve been asleep. This test tube was stolen from Eastern Europe by one of Peter’s… friends. It’s a legacy of Hydra’s infiltration within the former Soviet Union. And guess what happened to all this Hydra serum after it was stolen and brought to America?”

"They said this was Soviet serum, then turned it into Soviet serum and began illegal human experiments. What does that tell us?"

Tony's analysis hit the captain like a hammer blow, and he let out a sigh of pain that almost everyone could feel.

"Hydra has already infiltrated the United States."

“There may be more than one such plan,” Peter added. “The spider that bit me, the symbiote on my body—these are all new super-soldier projects being researched by the U.S. military, and there is a very high probability that they were developed under the supervision of Hydra.”

Even Hulk understood.

"Hmph, bad people have entered a bad country and done even worse things."

“There’s something even more troublesome, Captain. Remember your old friend Torchhead? His body disappeared, then reappeared decades later, and when our little Spider went to Madrid Slope, he was standing with Weapon X, Weapon X, yet another U.S. super soldier project.”

In an absolutely safe environment, Tony came to a very clear conclusion.

“All the super-soldier programs in the entire country are unsafe, or to put it bluntly, all the super-soldiers created by this country, unless they are the result of an accident like Peter’s, could all be Hydra soldiers.” The captain was silent for a long time, and not only the captain, almost everyone present was silent for a long time. Hank seemed to have thought of something: “Wait, S.H.I.E.L.D. also has its own super-soldier program…”

“That’s not safe either,” Tony said helplessly, then pulled out a stack of photos: “Remember the Thunder Force? Fury didn’t trust us, so he went it alone. The captain took the photos and looked at Tony, signaling him to continue.

“Jack Hart, they call him Jack of Hearts. His father, Philip, invented a highly efficient liquid fuel called Zero Fluid. A company chose to steal it, then killed his father in front of this guy and pushed him into the fuel. After the explosion, he became a pure energy being and could only survive in a restraint suit. He has been under military supervision ever since.”

After Tony introduced the person in the first photo, he flicked away the second photo, which was a complete yellow lightning bolt, but condensed into a human shape.

"Miguel Santos, a maintenance worker at Gamma Labs in Arizona, is an electrician. He mutated during the gamma explosion that created the Hulk. He was maintaining an electrical box at the time and turned into a living lightning bolt. Some people call him the Living Lightning, while others simply call him Zack. He has been kept in an insulated room since 03."

The third photo shows a black suit of armor flying in the sky.

"Chris Powell was just a kid when he unexpectedly acquired a suit of armor from outer space. The U.S. military took him over from his corrupt cop father and spent over a decade training him to be a killing machine, Black Hawk, what an American name."

And finally, Citizen V.

Peter finally got a word in: "Is this Zemo?"

The captain looked at Peter, who then explained, "In another world, Baron Zemo impersonated the hero Citizen V, joined the Thunder Force, and eventually incited those who had reformed to steal the superheroes' data. In the end, he killed everyone, and my armor transmitted all that data to Jarvis."

Tony immediately responded.

"I isolated part of Jarvis's database until I was sure that no one could modify Jarvis's program. However, Citizen V is a robot developed by the U.S. military, and at least for now, he is not a living person."

The captain sighed again. Zemo had died seventy years ago, and he had watched Zemo die.

But Hydra is still alive, Jim Hammond is still alive, and even he himself is still alive.

“Cut off one head, and two will grow back.” The captain muttered to himself, understanding Tony’s intention. He stood up and looked at the Avengers: “If we want to completely destroy Hydra, we need to find all of its heads. Anyone but the people in this room could be a member of Hydra. I need each of you to carefully identify those you can trust.”

“If it can cut off one head and grow two more, then we will cut off all of the Hydra’s heads.”

　It included some minor characters who, while not crucial, would have a role, and briefly introduced the origins of the story.
