Chapter 175 American Avengers

"So, are you still planning to persuade your friends to come here for an adventure? Craven might even be very hospitable to them."

Leaving through the main gate of the Kravinov estate, Felicia casually inquired, though she was actually more interested in knowing what her father had encountered in the Soviet Union. From Craven's words, it was clear that Walter Hardy had come into contact with the Soviet Union's super-soldier serum research project, and might even have actually tried to infiltrate a secret Soviet base to steal super-soldier serum samples.

If Walter Hardy had succeeded back then, perhaps things wouldn't have turned out this way.

However, Peter doesn't think so. Based on the information currently available, the entire theft is highly likely a scheme orchestrated by Hydra, with the aim of using the "Soviet Super Soldier Serum" to push forward a long-dormant "weapons upgrade" program within the United States. Therefore, it seems that Walter Hardy is doomed regardless.

So what about Felicia? Why wasn't Felicia targeted by Hydra?
Peter suddenly realized something was amiss in the whole situation, so he asked, "Have you noticed anything strange happening around you?"

"Are you worried that I've been targeted by Hydra, or that I'm already being targeted?" Felicia thought for a moment and then shook her head. "No, I haven't noticed anything amiss yet. Besides, I'm quite safe around here because you're right here. In any case, Hydra wouldn't target an Avenger in such a short time. The fact that they're still planning to remain hidden means they're still planning to stay in the shadows."

Since Hydra intends to remain in the shadows, unless Felicia uncovers something truly extraordinary, they will continue to ignore it until then. Furthermore, since the Defenders previously destroyed an "illegal US military human experimentation base," which on the surface had no connection to Hydra, Hydra is happy to see this happen.

It could even be said that if Walter Hardy's death hadn't involved that vial of super-soldier serum bearing the Hydra insignia, perhaps no one would have connected it to Hydra, which had been out in the open for decades. Instead, it would have been seen as a cover-up by the US military. It must be said that Hydra was indeed very powerful; all the bad things they did, when attributed to the US military, became perfectly logical.

Yes, that's probably how the US government works.

“Harry… Although there’s no danger around now, I think it’s better not to come, just in case. The girl he likes is inviting him to her house for dinner in the next few days, and once he hears that, he probably won’t be in the mood for any adventure.”

As Peter spoke, he glanced at the Kravinov Estate in the distance; the ancient mansion appeared mysterious and eerie under the moonlight. Craven, after accepting Peter's invitation, didn't immediately agree. Instead, he said he needed to consult with someone who could make the decision, and suggested that Peter also seriously discuss the matter with the leaders of the Avengers, allowing both sides to exchange ideas before making a final decision.

In addition, another thing the other party was very concerned about was where the chameleon mask had gone.

But Peter didn't know this either; he really didn't know.

That very night, more than one thing happened related to "Kraven".

War Machine Colonel James Rhodes was urgently summoned to the Pentagon, where he was met by General Ross, the former leader of the Hulk Arrest Team. Ross was in the conference room watching footage of the Hulk's spectacular performance in the Battle of New York.

"Sir."

“It’s ironic, soldier, Colonel Rhodes.” General Ross sighed and turned off the recording. “In just one day, a monster can become a hero. What do you think of your friend Tony Stark and his colorful friends?”

"Are you trying to discuss the Avengers breaking the law or overstepping boundaries?" "I'm more worried about the 'Avengers' of other countries, and we don't have any Avengers." General Ross didn't speak, while Roddy went up and opened the report, which showed that the other five permanent members of the UN Security Council, except for France, had begun to form their own superhero teams, and these teams had official status.

However, the Avengers lack official status, and this team, almost entirely composed of American citizens, doesn't consider themselves under the jurisdiction of the US government. When President Ellis asked the official in charge of superpowered individuals, "How many superheroes do we have?" the answer was...

"All we have are war machines."

“We only have war machines, Colonel Rhodes.” General Ross finally stood up and handed another document to Roddy. Roddy saw that the document bag was labeled “American Avengers Program”, but he did not take it and instead gave his own answer.

"If the United States is invaded, I believe the Avengers will protect us."

"What if the United States hadn't been invaded?"

Ross's words chilled the air. He slapped the files onto Roddy's chest and handed them to him.

“You’re a soldier, Colonel Roddy. You know what soldiers are supposed to do. Take a good look at the men inside and select the ones you need. You will become the leader of the American Avengers.”

General Ross left without a word. Roddy took the file and opened it. Looking at the dozen or so files inside, he had no idea that the US government could hide so many superhumans outside of S.H.I.E.L.D.

A scientist's son, who fell into a pool of special substances created by his father when his father was assassinated by an unknown killer, fused with the special substances and became a pure energy body that could not be condensed without special equipment; a young man who became a living lightning bolt in the subsequent gamma experiment by the military; a young high school student who supposedly found alien technology and obtained a set of alien armor; and a robot who branded the American flag on his armor, wore a red cape, and called himself Citizen V...?

And this is already the most reliable person in the entire file.

"...My God."

Rhodes muttered to himself as he walked out of the Pentagon, then activated his War Machine armor and took off. He opened a secret communication channel with Tony Stark and, feeling exhausted, revealed to his old friend some things that didn't violate confidentiality regulations and should soon be made public.

“Tony, I know you might not be up yet, but listen, man, you, or rather the Avengers, are in big trouble.”

Sorry for the late update today.

Although it was very late yesterday
