I'm working on Marvel's Spider-Man in American comics.
Chapter 143 Next Stop: Wasteland, and the Iron Spider
Chapter 143 Next Stop: Wasteland, and the Iron Spider
Dilapidated buildings are scattered across the desert. A brightly colored SUV races across the plains. An old man, carrying a bow, drinks as he drives into the distance. Ahead lies the massive skeleton of Ant-Man, lying on the ground in a cross-like position, becoming a local landmark.
Pym Cross is the name of this place.
The faint spiderweb-like markings gradually became clearer as the old man drove forward. He drove to a dilapidated town where a divine hammer, stained with the blood of a god, stood on the ground, and numb people knelt before it, praying. The old man silently drove to the entrance of a car repair shop, went upstairs, and opened the door to his daughter's room.
“Aishri, you…”
wake up.
Peter sat up in bed. He had just told Reed that he wasn't going to travel to other universes so soon, but he didn't expect the flag to be retrieved so quickly.
But a wasteland universe? Why a wasteland universe?
Most post-apocalyptic universe stories follow the same pattern: villains unite, swap opponents, kill off most of the heroes, and seize world domination. While this plot is completely illogical, for example, Wolverine, controlled by Mysterio, kills all the X-Men. And how did he even manage to kill the telepath? And how did he kill Shadowcat?
Peter didn't remember the specific number of the Wasteland Universe, but he knew there was more than one. The earliest Wasteland Universe was actually a spin-off of Fantastic Four, in which Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman returned from a time tunnel, gathered the surviving heroes and their descendants, restored the world, and finally fought Galactus. The other universe, however, is the more widely known one, the universe where stories like *The Eagle Returns*, *The Wolf Returns Home*, and *The Last Star* take place.
However, regardless of which universe it is, it doesn't seem to fit the requirements of the Web of Fate. Indeed, there is a Spider-Man in that universe, Hawkeye, and Ashley Barton, the daughter of Spider-Man's daughter in that world. But the problem is, the story of that entire universe doesn't revolve around Spider-Man as the protagonist, and the development of the story has little to do with Spider-Man. To exaggerate a bit, it doesn't even matter whether Spider-Woman in this world lives or dies...
"what happened?"
Venom poked its head out of Peter's closet and asked a question. Peter shook his head but didn't reply. He was still thinking about it when his phone rang. Peter picked it up and checked the message.
The Avengers are back.
A few minutes later, at Avengers Tower.
"So, your next stop is a world where we're all dead? Wolverine killed all the X-Men? Emma Foster could just shut his brain down." Tony Stark, upon returning and hearing this, could only find it absurd: "How did they kill Thor?"
"The Absorber absorbed the magical energy of a hero I don't know, as well as the lightning controlled by Magneto."
The Absorber has already appeared in this world, was beaten up by the Hulk, and is now in the Raft Prison.
"You mean, Thor was killed by a man whose fist was imbued with magical lightning?"
Tony sighed helplessly. When he first heard the news, his PTSD, which stemmed from the Battle of New York and his fear of not being able to protect the world, almost flared up. After hearing the story of what Peter "saw" happened in another world, he sighed helplessly again.
His PTSD didn't flare up, but his high blood pressure was about to flare up. How could the people in that wasteland universe be so stupid?
"Okay, uh, we already know you have a very DC new suit and your alien friends. Do you need anything else if you want to go to that wasteland universe?"
Peter hesitated. He had originally planned to bring something, but now it seemed unnecessary. What powerful beings in the wasteland universe could defeat Venom? Aside from Black Bolt, there didn't seem to be any, but even the Black Bolt of the wasteland universe wasn't an enemy. Wasteland Hulk? Just a piece of trash who got taken down by Old Wolf; he seemed even weaker than Old Duncan before his corruption. The betrayed Thunderbolts? It was hard to say whether they could even defeat Venom combined.
"chocolate."
Peter finally summarized what he wanted: "Lots of chocolate, that's all I want, Venom needs to eat this."
Venom's little head popped out, slightly startling Tony: "Yes, lots of chocolate."
Tony smiled. "Okay, but you'll have to figure out a way to get there, and make sure your alien pet doesn't steal any food. Perfect timing, I've prepared a little gift for you: as a student, you need a good backpack."
A nice backpack? Could it be...?
Tony Stark snapped his fingers, and a brand-new Iron Man suit rose from the floor. The color scheme was still Iron Man's classic red and gold, but it drew more inspiration from Spider-Man's costume design. The suit was red with a huge golden spider on the chest, and the armor on the forearms and calves was painted gold. The goggles were also changed to gold, but the biggest highlight was the three pure gold, sharp metal claws on the back.
“I didn’t number it because this is for you, the Iron-Sipder Armor.”
“Thank you very much, Mr. Stark.” Peter didn’t expect Stark to have created this thing so quickly, but thinking about it, it makes sense. From the Battle of New York to the Extremis virus invasion, in less than a year, due to his own anxiety disorder, Tony Stark created more than thirty Iron Man suits. It probably only took him a few hours to design this thing.
“The captain and I agree on one thing: you’re too young. He thinks you need more training, but I think you need a suit of armor to protect yourself.” Tony said, snapping his fingers. The Iron Spider armor then demonstrated its remarkable storage capabilities, transforming into a hollow metal backpack.
Venom immediately conjured three huge, sharp bio-claws behind Peter, and then transformed itself into a backpack.
Tony Stark just stared at Venom, then watched as Peter called it back.
“Take it, kid, it’s not worth much anyway… Since you’ve already made it, I didn’t expect you could create one, an alien symbiote.” Tony said, taking a sip of milk. “Oh, and also. Black and white really doesn’t look good.”
“Well… thank you, Mr. Stark.”
Peter picked up the metal backpack. To be honest, it weighed several tens of kilograms, but to him it was no different from an ordinary backpack.
Alright, it's a new day, let's go to school first. Based on last experience, there are still a few days before heading to the wasteland, so let's use this time to prepare.
“Oh, Mr. Stark. Remember to check what I have in the safe, and turn off Jarvis and all the connected devices.”
Tony Stark paused for a moment, unaware that Peter had filled a safe with spider silk to prevent Jarvis from scanning the pattern on it; he just felt something was quite amiss.
