Chapter 450 Travelers and Inns
Chapter 450 Travelers and Inns
Does this mean I've gained another magical pet? Another one I can try to train?
Luger looked on with a puzzled expression.
In fact, he had always been very curious about the path of the wizard Zorn. When his teacher came to Kurt's table before, he mentioned that the wizard Zorn was a person of the Demon Nest with his own ideas, and was walking a path that had precedents to refer to but did not follow the rules. His teacher gave him a certain degree of affirmation.
Perhaps it was that twisting little imp that gave Lord Zorn some good inspiration.
As Ruger pondered this, he continued practicing the spells and casting gestures. These were perfect for traveling; he could manipulate them as he went without creating any magical fluctuations.
A bright red carpet gradually lost its charm.
The atmosphere, once like a paradise, gradually transformed into a road seemingly paved with blood.
Luger walked along, looking around as he went.
Suddenly, his hair stood on end, and he stopped abruptly. Almost simultaneously, the wizard Zorn in front of him waved his hand, creating a tumbling sensation that carried them away from the spot, before continuing his leisurely walk.
Luger was still shaken.
Mahama and Valin looked bewildered, only noticing that Ruger's expression had suddenly changed, and then the wizard Zorn led them on a journey.
"Just a rather troublesome Nightmare Demon. I didn't expect to find one here. It seems it followed the aura of the Nightmare World when the kingdom shattered..." Zorn said casually, carrying a bottle of wine as he walked.
Mahama looked at Rug.
"I've never seen a Nightmare Demon before. Is that thing really that hard to deal with?" the big guy asked curiously.
Ruger nodded subconsciously.
"Troublesome is the most accurate description of it. Sometimes when you encounter something like that, you feel powerless. If you don't deal with it properly in the first place, it will be very difficult to handle. You may not be able to kill the wizard immediately, but it will entangle you for a long time."
As Luger spoke, he recalled the two Nightmare Demons he had encountered, one of which nearly caused Raiden to drown in his unseen tears.
It was truly a bizarre and tragic way to die.
Luger believed that he could try using the power of origin and the power of faith he had mastered, but only in the first moment of discovery. For example, if he hadn't dealt with the pale figure he saw in the tree hole immediately, it would have been difficult to handle.
A group of beautiful mushroom houses came into view.
Luger looked at the houses of all sizes. The stems of the mushrooms had been hollowed out. The smaller ones could house one or two little fairies, while the larger ones could even house Mahama.
It resembles a village or a town.
However, many houses were empty, creating a scene devoid of any sign of life.
As the group passed through several tall mushroom houses, they were greeted by a large white rat.
"Welcome, welcome to the traveler from afar! Welcome to the land of dreams, a land that reflects the traveler's heart, a land that reflects everything outside, bringing in beauty and refracting away boredom... Therefore, this is forever a perfect land of dreams, a happy home."
A large white rat was hopping around in front of them.
"Would you travelers like to stay at my inn? This inn has been open for hundreds of years, and you are only the second group of guests, you are truly distinguished guests," the rat said, stroking its whiskers. "And you, you furry fellow over there, would you like to stay? Oh, your fur is so shiny! You can have a meal, and enjoy some goblin wine..."
Ruger became interested upon hearing this, glanced at Zorn, and then turned to the large white rat.
"Only two groups of guests have been received in hundreds of years?"
Luger looked at it curiously.
"This kind of shop must be really bad, so bad that it's about to go out of business, otherwise how come it only gets two groups of customers every few hundred years?"
Ruger joked that what he really wanted to say was why it hadn't gone out of business, having only hosted two groups of guests in hundreds of years.
The large white rat stood there, seemingly startled by Ruger's words, its two paws dangling in front of it. Suddenly, the rat twitched again and said with a relaxed expression, "I just had a dream. I dreamt that running a hotel would be great. Does a hotel need a lot of guests? I feel happy even without guests. All I want to do is be a hotel owner. Don't you think that's wonderful? A hotel owner! Owning a great hotel, that's wonderful."
The mouse happily waved its paws and drew a circle in front of it.
Ruger noticed that Zorn was already somewhat tempted when the rat mentioned the fairy wine.
Those who are powerful can act with more impunity.
“In that case, let us see your wonderful hotel,” Ruger said. “Hopefully, we won’t disappoint you; we’re one of your last groups of guests in a long time.”
"No no no."
The big rat, while happily welcoming the rat, began to shake its head.
“My first group of distinguished guests arrived just yesterday. They are wearing robes just like you, but there are more of them than you. Let me count them: one or two... oh no, one less than you.”
The big rat suddenly looked around, then moved closer as if to whisper something, even though there was no one around.
“Those guests searched everywhere for a long time, so I went up to them and invited them to stay at the inn, but they ignored me. So I asked them if they were going to attend the Fairy King's wedding…”
The large white rat wore a smug expression.
"This kingdom is on the verge of destruction. The roads are all cut off. Those stupid and foolish creatures will never see the Fairy King," the rat said smugly. "Only my inn leads there. When there are no guests, I expand the inn; that's my happiest thing... A long time ago, I dug a road to the Fairy King's residence and even hung a sign there, but unfortunately, the sign disappeared quickly. Maybe some mischievous little thing took it..."
Several people looked at each other.
Luger looked at the big rat with curiosity.
“This place is going to be destroyed, aren’t you worried?” he said.
The mouse paused for a moment.
"Your questions are always so strange, sir."
The mouse then began to lead the way.
Ruger and his group followed.
The plump mouse wriggled and led them to a sloping hole in front of them, where there was a pair of white wooden double doors, which were carefully carved, and a large leaf served as a hotel sign with the owner's teeth marks on it.
Luger stared at the large rat, curious about the fairy's unusual way of thinking.
Mahama asked Varin questions, exchanging hushed conversations, seemingly more concerned about the unfamiliar wizards who had arrived earlier.
The small door opened, and it looked like even Luger would have to bend over to squeeze through. But surprisingly, as they got closer, their figures gradually shrank, and they entered the rat's hotel without any trouble.
"Are you going to the king's wedding too?" the mouse asked curiously, gesturing for them to sit down. "I suggest you go and see; it should be very lively."
The mouse brought over the menu as it spoke.
In the spacious hotel lobby, they were the only guests at their table.
Looking up, Ruger could see tree roots protruding from the hotel's dome. One end of the protruding root had been trimmed by rats and adorned with glowing crystals.
The menu was also carefully written, and each dish even had a picture drawn on it.
"This is a painting I commissioned from the most beautiful painter in town. I even dug a hole for it and expanded its studio," the mouse said proudly. "Although it went crazy and died a couple of days ago, and even tore off its own wings, its skill is unparalleled."
