Chapter 418 Fate and Piety
Chapter 418 Fate and Piety
The positions where Ruge and Mahama stood had unknowingly placed Lord Isaac between them.
Ruger glanced at him, then at the dark castle gate, and felt there was no need to be nervous anymore. Ever since the wizard Gillian asked that question, Lord Isaac had fallen into deep thought, his focused expression almost bordering on being lost in thought, as if he were recalling his entire life, like an old man on his deathbed.
"Lord Ruger, aren't you nervous?"
The tall witch apprentice beside him looked at him curiously.
“Oh, I’m sorry, you probably don’t know my name yet. You can call me Valin, just like they do,” Valin, the witch apprentice, whispered. “When I first started participating in witch hunts, I would even trip on the road due to nervousness, and I couldn’t control my magical fluctuations very well. Of course, that was two years ago.”
Ruger shook his head. He wasn't nervous at all, confident in himself and in Gillian the Wizard, not to mention he had a Return Stone given to him by Gillian the Wizard.
He won't be afraid unless a major disaster is imminent, and even if he is afraid, he doesn't necessarily have to be extremely nervous or panicked.
"Your Excellency Valin, you must be a genius girl!"
Ruger said seriously.
Valin waved her hand, forced a smile, and did not answer.
Ruger blinked. According to his deduction, normal level 5 limit wizard apprentices were all old guys who had seen the world. Although they might look young, they were by no means immature. They would feel fear and tension, but they would never be so nervous on the road that they would trip over a stone, let alone be so nervous that they could not control the fluctuations of magic when casting spells. So there was only one possibility: this Ms. Valin was not very old when she became a demon hunter wizard.
Of course, it's also possible that they spent their apprenticeship in the laboratory with their teacher, which would also indicate that they are not mentally old, and being valued by a teacher must mean they have good talent.
A continuous rumbling sound came from afar!
Ruger glanced at Mahama, then began to use his lightness technique, simultaneously unfurling his Nightmare Wings.
The big guy understood immediately, and swung his arm in a wide arc. With a powerful swing, Luger used his feet to step on Mahama's huge fist and leaped into the air.
The distant scenery was spread out before my eyes.
Ruger raised an eyebrow. Some strange people and some strange beasts were running wildly. Among them were the tall and strong people from the villages he had seen on the road. These guys seemed to feel no pain. The few trees in their path were snapped in two. Ruger's gaze was focused on those people he had seen before. They seemed to have grown even taller now.
He pursed his lips and landed.
Seeing his appearance, Mahama was too lazy to even ask any questions.
Only Valin looked at him with a worried expression.
“Just some cute little beasts and some crazy people,” Ruger said to Valin.
The casual attitude and description surprised the wizard apprentice, who was more experienced in demon hunting than they were.
Looking at the other woman, Ruger understood why she was following Gillian. This woman was probably the kind of person who took things seriously, big or small, and liked to do things in a very methodical way, which was extremely different from the way Zorn the wizard did things.
"Could you... let me in?"
Isaac suddenly looked up and prayed.
Valin's face suddenly darkened.
“Lord Isaac, now is not the time. Please obey Lady Gillian’s orders,” she said softly.
Isaac fell silent, looking as if he had aged two years.
"Lady Gillian will let me know when it's time to go in, and we'll go in with you," Valin added.
Ruger looked at Isaac, and he recognized that aura of someone nearing the end of their life—a peculiar aura that became more pronounced when emotions were running high.
Mahama charged out suddenly, knocking a tall, black, unicorn-like subterranean beast flying.
Ruger glanced at Valin, and the two decided to stay by Lord Isaac's side. They figured Mahama could handle the rest; he'd been cramped in the crowded flying vehicle all the way, and this was a good opportunity to stretch his arms. Mahama was taller than usual, smashing through targets and making him look more like a monster.
Suddenly, Mahama, who hadn't had enough, stopped.
The people and beasts that had charged at them like madmen scattered and retreated in terror to a distance.
Footsteps came from inside the castle.
A distraught Isaac suddenly raised his head, looking at the broken door with hopeful eyes.
Ruger glanced at Valin. This girl was indeed a reliable person. Even at a time like this, she was still keeping a close eye on Isaac instead of looking at the wizard Gillian who was about to come out. If there was anything in the future, he could ask her to cooperate. Different people have different strengths.
The elegant wizard Gillian emerged from the darkness and slowly stood before the crowd.
"She doesn't want to see you. She's dead. Just now, she begged me to kill her."
Gillian said softly.
Isaac stood there motionless.
“In your eyes, her death must have been shortly after your failed attempt to become a wizard,” Gillian said slowly. “She sacrificed your senior to the demon, hoping the demon would make you a wizard. You failed, she failed, your senior failed, and in the end, she became a monster. The demon kneaded your senior and her together, tearing their souls apart… In her final years, she was actually seeking liberation, and at the same time, she wanted to find a way to help you become a wizard.”
The wizard Gillian spoke softly about those unsettling things.
There seemed to be more to the story, but she was too lazy to say it.
Isaac remained standing still, without moving.
Gillian finished speaking briefly, and without waiting to see if Isaac understood, she walked past him.
Seven different combs reappeared before everyone's eyes, and the simple and cramped flying device gradually appeared before them amidst a series of sounds.
Ruger dodged the comb that was trying to get closer, glanced at Isaac who was standing there dumbfounded, and didn't expect that there really was such an easy demon-hunting thing as Mahama had described.
A seemingly insignificant incident and a small amount of merit stones represent the twisted lives of three wizard apprentices on this island.
Suddenly, Isaac knelt down, his expression frantic.
Luger slowly backed away.
The wizard Gillian also stopped in her tracks.
Isaac burst into tears, but not from pain; he seemed to have forgotten what had just happened and instead looked overjoyed.
Just as Luger and the others were looking at him, puzzled...
The distant Tianzhu Mountain suddenly darkened, as if it would be plunged into night in the blink of an eye.
A violent, unprecedented surge of magical energy churned across the endless sea.
Gillian's expression changed drastically.
"Ascension to divinity! Welcome, our great God of Knowledge! Ascend to the highest divine position!"
At this moment, the short, stout wizard Isaac seemed to have forgotten his lover's death and the cruel tricks of fate, raising his hands with a devout expression.
Ruger had already pulled out the Return Stone and was looking at the middle-aged apprentice kneeling on the ground shouting in shock. He could actually feel an indescribable power of faith from this guy. It was not the power of the god of books, but something different, emanating from within. It was Isaac's own faith, as if this guy was no longer a god at this moment, but a devout believer.
