Chapter 359 Crying and Laughter
Chapter 359 Crying and Laughter
Luger, turning his head, glanced to the side. Mahama, this burly man, was already looking somewhat dumbfounded. On the street corner, two ladies had taken the opportunity to touch the wizard Zorn's chest hair. The scene was quite eye-catching, and considering his identity, it felt rather strange.
Wizards come in all shapes and sizes.
Ruger had forgotten where he first heard that phrase.
In the far reaches of the world, Tianzhu Mountain, which simulates the rising and setting of the sun and moon, has completely darkened. This nameless island and nameless city belong entirely to bonfires and laughter. The aroma of cheap liquor and the smell of grilled meat of varying quality permeate the sounds of laughter and the glow of the fire, flowing freely through the streets and alleys.
Mahama gradually relaxed.
The cheering crowd in the street had blocked the view, and many people were dancing together, so the chest hair being constantly touched in the distance could no longer be seen.
Ruge looked at Mahama and found it somewhat amusing.
Having grown up in the den of little dog-headed people, he had limited experience and his understanding of the extraordinary world was not clear. Some deeply ingrained beliefs had not yet been established, and his fixed mindset had not been formed. Therefore, he was less impacted and naturally more receptive.
But limited to watching the spectacle, Ruge was somewhat grateful for his appearance. His and Mahama's mistaken identities as divine beings brought them some peace and quiet; otherwise, the burly cook auntie would have already come over and pulled them into dancing.
Some people shouted rhythms, using simple calls to make everyone's steps more synchronized. People held hands and kicked their calves forward amidst laughter and cheers, as if trying to fling their shoes off.
Ruger felt that, at least for the moment, they had shaken off their troubles.
In the chaotic seas, an island group nestled between two major powers, strange gods and tireless demons, blazing campfires and hearty laughter of people—everything seems like a dream.
It's really fun.
Ruger's eyes darted around as he kept stuffing roasted meat into his mouth.
As the two of them finished the barbecue and drinks meant for ten people and got up to return to the still somewhat unfamiliar courtyard, the revelry that had spread throughout the city was still going on. They heard that there were even more interesting activities taking place in the small square in the distance.
Mahama made a gesture as if he wanted to return the way he came.
"By the way, Your Excellency Mahama, meditation is not something that can be accomplished in a day."
Ruger smiled slightly and decided to take a slightly longer route on the way back.
For example, that small square, and the larger square further away.
Rug walked along, still holding a wine glass in his hand. Apart from his slightly long mouth and furry appearance, he blended into the crowd more easily than Mahama, who looked more human. People sang and danced, clinking their glasses, no longer caring about the spilled wine.
Mahama hesitated for a moment, then followed.
The two took a detour on their original way home and soon arrived at the small square mentioned by the girl who brought them the barbecue.
It's quieter here than on the noisy streets.
A simple elevated platform was built in the middle of the square, slightly behind it.
Something that could barely be called a drama was being performed on a makeshift stage.
Luger gazed at the stage made of wooden planks in the distance, feeling rather surprised, or rather, pleasantly surprised.
"Thank you, great god of drama..."
A plump old woman in front of them was muttering to herself.
The sound reached Luger's ears.
The person on the stage suddenly fell down, and a burst of laughter came from the small square, but everyone quickly quieted down.
"I want to be a talker too!" A disheveled child said to the old man beside him.
Ruge raised an eyebrow as he listened to these words and looked at Mahama.
The burly man scratched his head when he saw Luger's gaze.
“I happen to know this one. It’s probably a very ancient god who doesn’t have his own territory,” Mahama said thoughtfully. “He seems to have agreements with many powerful gods. Those sorcerers are his followers and divine gifts. The stage is special to them. As long as they are on stage, these sorcerers are allowed to make jokes and talk nonsense. That is, they can say the names of other gods on stage and perform in the form of drama… but they won’t be beaten to death for blasphemy… No one will hold it against them on stage…”
It seems to be in response to Mahamat's words.
The farce is over.
The performers on stage began to recite the names of some deities.
Ruger surmised that the pact between the god of drama and the gods must have included a condition that would help them spread their influence.
"When the god of joy fell into confusion, his heart shattered, the cracks turning black, representing endless loneliness... He grieved for his inability to bring joy to people, and the endless sorrow caused his heart to tear apart uncontrollably..."
A young man with a large, exaggerated smile painted on his face and tear stains at the corners of his eyes struck a strange pose on a simple stage, speaking with tears streaming down his face.
"His broken heart made him even more lost; joy was gone, only endless sorrow remained..."
The performer tore open his clothes, revealing a different underlying color, and the clown beside him cooperated.
At this moment, distinctive musical instruments also began to play their long, melodious tunes.
The people on stage were all in pain, and an elderly man watching the play was already wiping away tears.
Ruger almost laughed at the clumsy performance, but when he relaxed and tried to feel it, a sense of sadness welled up inside him. He guessed that it might be the effect of those sorcerers and the tune they played. After all, they were also divinely inspired, so it was normal for them to have some special abilities that could influence ordinary people.
Suddenly, a person appeared on the stage, radiating light.
"In endless confusion, the god of knowledge guided the god of joy forward. These two great gods embraced humanity with supreme wisdom... The bewildered god of joy also grieved for the sorrow of his believers. The guidance of the supreme god of knowledge allowed the god of joy to see through the darkness, and his broken heart transformed into a throat and mouth that devoured suffering... He no longer grieved, but instead fed on the sorrow and pain of his believers..."
"There is no pain, only joy."
"Hahaha……"
They're laughing on stage.
The people in the audience were laughing.
People around the square were laughing.
Luger, who had been watching the commotion with a smile, was stunned for a moment. He felt that this situation and this scene were extremely awkward, and even made his hair stand on end.
A surge of mental energy unconsciously emanated from Luger and Mahama.
The slightest desire to laugh vanished from my mind.
It wasn't that anything was broken, but rather that Ruger felt that these people, who were already able to laugh happily and were laughing happily, were now being affected by supernatural forces, emitting exaggerated laughter, which carried a strange sadness.
"I'm sorry, this isn't usually how I am..."
An ordinary-looking young man appeared behind Ruge and Mahama, and said with a wry smile.
