I built a manor in the Middle Ages

Chapter 10 Pheasants are also chickens

Luc broke off a branch, dipped it in salt water and started brushing his teeth.

Salt rocks are generally buried hundreds of meters underground, and not much of them are exposed on the surface, but it is not a waste to use them for cleaning.

After rinsing his mouth briefly and finishing his breakfast, Luc walked into the back mountain with his almost inseparable little Charlie.
He is going to catch pheasants today!
After a few days of pruning, the fence had not yet been started, but the wood was ready. Before repairing the fence, Luc suddenly felt that it was necessary to build another livestock area inside the fence:

After much deliberation, Luc locked onto the pheasant.

Chicken.

Since ancient times, it has been one of the most important livestock and poultry for mankind. Apart from anything else, the continuous supply of eggs is enough to satisfy people.

Luc remembered that in the former barony, there was a slave who raised chickens for the baron. His task was to offer a fixed number of eggs to the lord every day.

Walking in the overgrown forest, Luc had cut down many trees near the cabin, but they were insignificant compared to the entire forest. The methods of hunting pheasants and hunting hares were almost the same, both of which were to set traps. Since pheasants can fly, the traps used for hunting hares only need to be improved.

Most pheasants have one characteristic - they only care about their heads and not their butts. If their vision is blocked, they will be like quails, retracting their necks and folding their wings, lying there obediently, just like bullied serfs.

In response to this, Luc quickly set up a trap. After many hunts, he became an expert and hid in the bushes, waiting for the prey to come to him.
Stroking the fur of little Charlie, the black dog is now four months old. It is too early for it to hunt, but it is okay to adapt to it.
But obviously, at its active age, it couldn't get used to nudging Luc with its nose from time to time, hoping that Luc would play with it. After trying several times and seeing that Luc ignored it, it went to the other side and did somersaults on its own.

In fact, the difficulty of pheasants lies not in catching them but in raising them.

This breeding not only includes domestication, but also protection, feeding, etc.
First, there must be both male and female chickens; otherwise, they won't lay eggs, or the eggs they do lay will be useless. Secondly, the pheasants' wings must be clipped to prevent them from flying over the fence. Finally, just like with Charlie, they must constantly temper their wild nature and protect themselves from animals like foxes.
Hunting has always been a job that requires patience. A good hunter must also be a good patient hunter.

"buzzing"

But just as Luc was sitting quietly, a sharp sound suddenly hit his eardrum.
There was a slight tremor in the sound, and Luc shuddered. This was the sound of a wasp!

Luc lost all patience and turned around quickly. Almost at the same time as he turned around, little Charlie howled in pain:

“Ahhhhhhhhhh!!”

Little Charlie was howling like a wolf, his dark face filled with pain and fear. He wished he could grow four more legs so that he could run towards Luke like flying!

Behind it, a group of hornets are chasing it relentlessly!

This black dog had stirred up a hornet's nest at some point!

"What the hell!"

Luc's face changed drastically. Wasps are not docile sheep. On the contrary, they are like ferocious tigers in the forest!

If a person is attacked by a swarm of hornets and fails to dodge in time, it is not uncommon for him to be stung to death!

Fortunately, there weren't many wasps following the black dog. Luc's brain was working at full speed:
You can't escape by running. Wasps are very fast. This place is too far from the stream. Running will only put you in more danger!
Wasps usually attack other animals because they invade or destroy their territory or nests. Although Luc didn't know what Charlie had done, it was clear that Charlie didn't resist after being stung, but simply fled. Why do I say that? Because wasps are social creatures. Resistance would only anger them and attract more companions, rather than the scattered dozen or so that they are now.

Therefore, the path to fight back was also blocked.

While Luc was thinking, little Charlie and the hornet were less than ten steps away from him. Luc gritted his teeth, hugged little Charlie, and then quickly squatted on the ground, holding his head with both hands, burying his head and neck deeply with the leaves and branches of the bushes!

The buzzing sound hovered over Luc's head, like the devil's low hum.

Luc curled up, and the black dog in his arms sobbed in pain.

When encountering a swarm of hornets in the wild, jumping into the water and swimming away is a common method, but few people know that squatting down and not moving is also a means of self-rescue.

Wasps have special vision and are more sensitive to moving objects. They also rarely sting shorter objects. So although Luc's action seems risky, it is actually the safest way at the moment!

But nothing is absolute! One or two wasps still landed on Luc's back, stinging him deeply through the linen!
A burning pain instantly spread throughout Luc's nerves. The hornet's stinger contained toxins, and the intense pain was several times stronger than that of an ordinary bee!
But Luc gritted his teeth and didn't move!

Damn it, I’ve been hit on the head with a mace!

After enduring these two poisonous stings, the other hornets did not attack again. Instead, they kept hovering above Luke, as if waiting quietly.

Luke hid in the bushes and felt a little ridiculous. A good hunter often has good patience and a short time, and the offense and defense are easy to change.
The most absurd thing is that I have become a pheasant that only cares about its head and not its butt!
The shrill sound of bee wings was still going on, and Luc began to get anxious. The sting on his back gradually became numb, and it seemed that the poison was spreading. What worried Luc the most was little Charlie in his arms. It had slowly stopped crying, and only its chest kept rising and falling, telling him that it was not dead yet.

Black Dog has been attacked much more than Luke
We can't sit still and wait for death!

Luc slowly took out the flint from his waist and rubbed it carefully, fearing that it would alarm the swarm of hornets. However, despite his caution, every friction still caused the hornets to fly violently.

As Luc rubbed the flint with greater and greater movements, the swarm of hornets seemed to have rediscovered its target, as if a stagnant pool of water had finally come alive, and moved towards Luc!

Although wasps are small in size, they are very brave!

Click!

A clanging sound was heard, and a blazing flame appeared in Luc's eyes, instantly igniting the surrounding branches!

fire!
Since ancient times, it has been one of the most terrifying weapons for humans to defeat other creatures!

And smoke is one of the most effective means to control hornets!

The bushes that Luc had deliberately isolated with sand were not all on fire, but as Luc continued to add branches, bursts of smoke rose up, and suddenly, like an invisible hammer, it slammed the swarm of bees hovering in the sky away.
The choking smoke filled the air around Luc, interfering with the wasp's vision and sense of touch. The tiny particles in the smoke penetrated into the wasp's compound eyes and antennae.
Wherever the smoke goes, hornets hide away!

Just as quickly as they were chasing each other, the swarm of bees retreated like a tide.
After a while, Luc, covered in sweat, raised his head, stomped out the fire, picked up little Charlie, and ran towards the cabin without looking back.
