Martin turned his head sharply and saw Diana grabbing two thick vines that were rushing towards Barbara with her bare hands. The tips were dripping with clear mucus, similar to the tongue of some animal.
With just a little force, Diana could pull the entire vine out.
But she pulled out her bush knife, cut the vines, and threw away the thing dripping with disgusting slime.
Martin's ears twitched when he heard a rustling sound. He turned his wrist and swung the Ni Lin sword like lightning, cutting the vines that were attacking him into pieces.
"What the hell is this?"
Barbara put on the hood of her windbreaker, looked at the vines that kept jumping on the ground, and jumped over them carefully.
"Carnivorous plants that prey on living people! Once you are entangled by them, you will be dragged into the ground and slowly digested. First the flesh and blood, then the internal organs, and finally not even the bones will be left."
Barbara shuddered with fear and whispered:
"I hope we won't encounter these disgusting and horrible things again."
"You should pray that the troubles we encounter later are all these things."
"What do you mean?" Barbara was puzzled.
Martin said to Diana, "We have just entered the forest and have been greeted with such a great gift. The owner of this tomb must have been very distinguished before his death. Are you sure you want to continue walking?"
"I'm here now, and it's not my style to go back without doing anything."
Diana didn't know much about the American pantheon, she had been living on Paradise Island, under the watchful eyes of the Greek gods, and news from other pantheons were not allowed to be spread.
General historical research does not explain witchcraft and curses.
So, although Diana was tough in words, facing this unfamiliar curse and witchcraft, she had to either reveal her identity and crush it all the way, or rely on Martin's wisdom.
"Go on, keep an eye on your friend."
Martin continued to walk in front, letting the hoof shadow increase the intensity of the light released.
Under the dazzling light, all the vines moving in the woods pounced towards Martin, trying to drag the person in the light into the ground and eat him directly.
Then, the vines that came over turned into pieces all over the ground. They kept struggling, but they were just like fish out of water. After jumping for a while, they turned into dry wood.
Barbara was very excited and said to Diana: "It's a good thing we hired Mr. Martin, otherwise we would have become nutrients for these vines."
Diana looked serious and did not respond, staring at everything around her.
Martin was also in a bad mood. Although these things were just ordinary plants and not even the lowest level monsters, there were large quantities of them.
The more of these things pop up at the beginning of the adventure, the greater the power accumulated in this forest, and the more serious the danger will be later.
"Martin, we found a body!"
Martin was swinging his sword to chop the surrounding branches and bushes to make a way through the woods. When he heard Diana's voice, he stopped and turned around.
Following the direction of Diana's flashlight, I saw a skinny skeleton tightly entangled by vines, like prey wrapped in a spider web.
Martin moved closer, wanting to get a closer look.
The mouth, nose, eyes and ears of the skeleton were pierced by vines. The black and yellow skin was shiny and would break with a poke.
The vines wrapped around the corpse were covered with thin spikes that pierced into the skin like needles extracting the essence of blood and flesh.
Martin pried open the pierced mouth and inserted his right index finger. After turning it around, the glove was covered with spikes and stained with foul-smelling corpse oil.
"Don't you feel disgusted to be fiddling with a corpse? Let's go!"
Barbara couldn't stand this atmosphere which was even quieter than a horror movie, especially since Martin and Diana didn't speak, which made her even more scared.
"The deceased was a member of a previous American archaeological team."
Martin pushed aside the vines, tore off the name tag on the chest of the clothes, and handed it to Diana.
Barbara recognized the name on the tag and felt surprised and sad.
There are only so many people in the circle. Although we are not from the same country, we see each other every day and it is hard not to know each other.
“They didn’t even make it one-fifth of the way and died here?”
"One fifth? You underestimate the scope of this forest. This distance is less than one tenth of it." Barbara quickly opened the map and compared it with the map for a while. A shadow of despair covered her heart.
Martin wanted to cut the vines and get the body out.
We can't let these people be haunted by the plants that eat them.
hum!
As soon as Martin cut a vine, the corpse began to shake and all the bones creaked, as if it was coming to life.
"I hate these curses that have no warning before they are triggered."
"Stop shaking!"
Martin simply tore off the corpse's head, treated it like a ball, and kicked it away.
"Run!"
Martin shouted, and the whole forest seemed to come alive. The ground began to wriggle, and a skeleton emerged from under each big tree. Flames came out of its hollow eyes and it pounced on the only three living people in the forest.
"There really is a curse!"
Martin jumped onto the back of Hoofshadow's horse, combined his two swords into a spear, and stretched it back.
Diana hugged Barbara, grabbed the spear, and with a thrust, she broke free from the skeleton's encirclement and landed on Hoofshadow's back.
"Run, Hoofshadow, run!"
The law——
The hoof shadow was also frightened by the surrounding bone frames, and quickly spread out its four hooves. Electricity surged around its body, knocking away pieces of bones and trees, and it kept rushing forward.
Diana grabbed Martin's arm and shouted in his ear, "Do you have to be naughty?"
"Don't you see the curse on those bodies?"
Martin hit back bluntly.
"We are both equally matched, so let's not criticize each other."
Barbara was held in Diana's arms. She couldn't bear the speed of the running hoof shadow. Her eyes flew away and she vomited violently. Her face turned pale as paper and she was half breath away.
But no matter how fast the hoof shadow ran, there were always more skeletons crawling out of the ground in the forest, and their mouths clattered and banged in a very regular pattern.
"What do these bones have to say?"
Diana looked at Barbara, who was half dead, and felt distressed but helpless.
Martin was looking for a way out, and answered casually, "It's nothing more than the Inca sayings 'Trespassers die' and 'Do not enter the land of the dead', as well as various curses and threats."
Martin suddenly remembered something, raised his wrist and saw a black cloud-like mark on his skin.
"I hate these invisible curses!"
This cloud is the mark of the curse. As long as this mark is not removed, the power of the tomb owner can descend upon the marked people at any time and take their lives.
Diana, being a demigod, immediately spotted the mark, and Barbara also had the same mark on her body.
"Get out of my way!"
Martin finally got angry.
He raised the Ni Lin Spear in his hand high, lightning jumped on the spear, turned into a lightning spear, and then threw it out.
Boom!
Thunder and lightning struck, blasting all the surrounding bone frames into bone powder.
