Chapter 4: Grimoire of Destruction

Chapter 4: Grimoire of Destruction
Ivy was following Dumbledore and Snape to the headmaster's office on the eighth floor of the main tower.

"A lot must have happened in the British wizarding world over the past hundred years, right?" Ivy's question was the first to break the silence in the air.

No one answered...

After turning two stairs, Dumbledore spoke slowly: "Anyone's narration is subjective. Why not treat the changes that have taken place in the wizarding world over the past hundred years as a puzzle and explore it from your own perspective? Mr. Doom?"

Perhaps it was because Ivy's question was too general, and Dumbledore didn't know where to start. More importantly, he didn't know what Ivy knew about the wizarding world.

"Okay..." Ivy responded noncommittally, but soon asked a second question, "Has the mission of Hogwarts changed? What about the teaching method?"

"Nothing special, except opening those idiots' brains over and over again and stuffing knowledge into them..." Snape said in a dry and toneless tone without turning his head.

"I mean, can I still go back to Hogwarts to continue my studies? You know, I've only been here for a year and I didn't even take the OWE exam!" Ivy made it clear. For him, Hogwarts was a great place, and it was 1991, and the plot was about to begin! How could he miss this?
"Once we understand the whole situation, we will make proper arrangements for you. Believe me, Mr. Doom." Dumbledore stopped, turned around and said to Ivy seriously, "Wait until we get to my office and we can have a good chat."

"As you wish, Professor." Ivy closed his mouth politely.

"Lemon Snowball." As Dumbledore read out the command, the stone statue at the door of the headmaster's office bowed slightly and made way, and a stone staircase appeared step by step.

The principal's office is an overall circular room, and Ivy feels that it has not changed much from more than a hundred years ago.

In addition to the bookcases filled with books, there are display cabinets for various strange magic props, and the walls are covered with portraits of past headmasters. However, if there is any difference between Dumbledore's office and Phineas Black's office, it is that there is a glass case displaying the Sword of Gryffindor and a phoenix Fawkes standing on a gilded branch.

"It should be summer vacation now, but why is there a little wizard standing here? Albus?" A portrait of a headmaster spoke. Ivy didn't recognize him.

"Even if it's a probation, it won't be carried out during the summer vacation, so something unusual must have happened. I heard that Harry Potter will be enrolled this year..." said another portrait of the headmaster.

Ivy couldn't help but interrupt: "Harry Potter? Is he famous?"

"That's none of your business." Snape's cold words stopped the portraits from answering. He conjured a chair for Ivy and pressed him roughly on it.

"Phineas! Phineas Nigellus Black?" Dumbledore called out Professor Black's name while searching back and forth between the portraits on the wall. "Please, help me find where he is."

"Oh! The greatest white magician of the 20th century would also ask me for help one day? How strange." A voice that sounded less welcome came from the other side of the wall, and the three living people in the room turned their eyes over.

"Great, Phineas!" Dumbledore said when he saw the portrait of Phineas Black, then sat back in his chair and extended his hand to introduce him, "This is your student, Ivy Doom. Do you remember him?"

"Ivy Doom?" Phineas Black's voice was full of confusion. "The professors reported to me that you were dead, but how did you survive until now? And become... so young?" "Anyway, it's some kind of magical accident that no one knows the principle of." Ivy spread his hands and asked in return, "I'm curious why Headmaster Black chose such an old portrait as proof of his status as the headmaster."

"It seems that you do know each other. In this case, Mr. Doom's identity as a Hogwarts student has been confirmed." Dumbledore's wise eyes flashed, and he picked up a candy that kept making a "clicking" sound from the plate and threw it into his mouth, "Chew, chew~ Can you tell me about ancient magic?"

"Hmph~" Phineas Black made a strange sound with the nose on the portrait. "Although it sounds like that, it's nothing compared to modern magic. What can be done with ancient magic, can also be done with modern magic. In comparison, ancient magic is more difficult to control, barbaric and primitive. Isn't it because of ancient magic that the boy has become what he is now?"

Ivy rolled his eyes. "This is a necessary sacrifice to stop the goblin Lanlock. Even if it happens again..."

"I noticed you mentioned sacrifice?" Dumbledore interrupted Ivy's speech. "What would require a child to sacrifice himself?"

"It's actually very complicated. I'll try to be brief." Ivy tried to organize his words. "I'm a person who is friendly to ancient magic. Professor Figo found me and guided me to study at Hogwarts. At the same time, there was a dark wizard named Rookwood who colluded with the goblin Lanlock and set their sights on the power of ancient magic."

"Among the many professors at Hogwarts, the secrets of ancient magic have been passed down in secret. They built a secret library under Hogwarts, which is under the secret room where you found me."

"Lanlock used the goblin magic silver to control many magical animals to work for him, and obtained its specific location through the goblins who built the secret vault. Finally, he used a drill to drill through the mountain wall and came directly to the basement of Hogwarts."

"At that time, all the professors of Hogwarts joined the battle. They were outside blocking Lanlock's followers. Professor Figo and I faced Lanlock directly in the deepest part of the secret vault. In order to defeat him, I had to release the power in the secret vault."

"Then, I saw you, and my body became like this."

Snape said with a suspicious look on his face, "A Muggle who has never received any magical education defeated the threat to the wizarding world in just one year of study? Perhaps I should take the students to visit your brain. Maybe it will help them get a few more certificates in OWLs."

"Because I have a special learning tool!" Ivy took out a book from his arms, "The Wizard's Field Guide!"

"Wow! How did it become like this?" Ivy looked at the gorgeous magic book in his hand in amazement. The original "Wizard's Field Guide" was just an ordinary notebook wrapped in a cowhide cover and parchment as pages, but now it has become a gorgeous and elegant magic book decorated with gems and gold and silver lines.

"Maybe it should have a new name!" Ivy scratched his chin, "Ivy Doom's Spell Tome!"

"Doom Spell Tome?" Snape frowned, feeling that the matter was not simple.

"Oh! That's a good name too, I like it!" Ivy applauded his misunderstanding.
