Chapter 81 The Reclusive Polar Bear
Slok lowered his head and sniffed the water, then tentatively stuck out his tongue to lick it. He smacked his lips and, finding no saltiness, breathed a sigh of relief and lowered his head to gulp down large mouthfuls of water.

After drinking until he was half full, he looked up, couldn't help but burp, and then swallowed the water that had risen up his throat back down before he was done.

Looking back, another polar bear lay in the grass, its body covered in congealed and turning black blood. A couple of flies swarmed around its nose and ears, crawling brazenly in the areas not covered by fur, but its eyes remained closed.

If it weren't for the obvious breathing sounds and the occasional twitching of his eyelids, Slok wouldn't have believed he was still alive.

This is Caesar, the Caesar who never recovered after killing the bear that day.

He is now completely withdrawn, and is no longer the imposing tyrant of the North he once was.

Slok's claws made a sparse sound as they stepped on the grass around Caesar, and he secretly looked up.

The bear in the grass remained motionless, showing no desire whatsoever to even open its eyes.

Slok felt relieved, slowly walked to Caesar's side, lowered his head and sniffed.

The bloodstains and bits of flesh clinging to Caesar's body were starting to stink, emitting a pungent odor, no wonder it attracted flies and mosquitoes.

Slok wanted to bend down and lick him, and he stuck out his tongue several times to probe in front of Caesar's smelly fur, but he didn't have the courage to lick it.

Unfortunately, polar bears do eat carrion when they are hungry, but he hadn't eaten carrion for a long time.

Looking at Caesar, who reeked of stench, Slok even wondered if he should go find a polar bear that hadn't eaten in a long time; perhaps they wouldn't care about this.

However, considering that Caesar had just killed a polar bear two days prior, there were probably no other polar bears willing to approach him now, so Slok had to abandon the plan.

He raised his paw and nudged Caesar's shoulder blade, then deliberately stretched out his nose and breathed heavily near Caesar's ear, trying to provoke Caesar's anger and rouse him.

...but in the end, without exception, they all failed.

Slok looked at the back of Caesar's front paws, where there was a scratch on his chest and abdomen.

It was left by the male bear as it used its last strength to die.

In the past, such wounds would have scabbed over long ago given Caesar's constitution, but now, perhaps because of his depressed mood, they are slow to heal and even show signs of inflammation and pus.

Slok leaned over and took a sniff.

It stinks, even more than the dirty hair on his body!

But this time he stuck out his tongue and licked away the foul-smelling, infected blood and pus.

Caesar finally squinted his eyes a crack, looking at him vaguely, but quickly closed them again.

Slok rubbed his head against him, then turned and left the bushes.

After an unknown amount of time, there was another sparse sound coming from the bushes.

Slok brought back a reindeer calf, parted the grass, and dragged it to Caesar's mouth.

Caesar had not eaten for almost a week.

The reindeer calves have been specially treated.

Slok bit through the carotid artery in its neck, and blood gushed out before it congealed, the scent of fresh flesh immediately filling the grass.

Slok crouched down next to Caesar, raised his paw, and nudged him again:

"Caesar, time to eat."

He was always throwing tantrums around Caesar, either dragging him away or stealing Caesar's prey.

Caesar never ate the prey he captured.

But every time he saw Slok, he wished he would leave as soon as possible, and he didn't care whether he had eaten any of the gifts that Slok had brought back.

Now that Slok has brought his prey back, Caesar doesn't seem to have much of an appetite.

Slok collapsed and fell asleep next to Caesar, rolling on his back with his four legs in the air towards Caesar!
The fat, strong body slammed into Caesar again and again, occasionally letting out a groan.

At first, it was fine, but after a while, Caesar couldn't take it anymore and stood up, vigorously shaking his fur. Slok immediately raised his paws to cover his head, curling up into a defensive posture!
But after waiting for a long time, the powerful force I remembered slapping my head didn't come. So I put down my claws and secretly opened one eye to peek.

But Caesar did sit up, but that was all.

He just sat there blankly, staring blankly ahead.

Slok lowered his eyes, got up and sat down next to Caesar, whispering guiltily:

"I'm sorry, Caesar, I shouldn't have taken Guo Mi with me."

Upon hearing Guo Mi's name, Caesar's eyes lit up slightly, but then returned to their emotionless state.

This time, however, he lowered his head and began to actively tear apart the prey that Slok had brought.

His tender skin was torn open, and he devoured the flesh and blood in large gulps. After a while, he finally raised his blood-stained face and whispered:

"There's nothing to apologize for. Even if you didn't see it last time, you would have seen it sooner or later. Even if you didn't see it, you would have heard about it from other bears sooner or later."

She's the kind of bear who can mingle with another mother bear with cubs, and Caesar has no doubt that there are many more bears in the Arctic who would be willing to befriend her.

We'll find out sooner or later; it's just a matter of time.

Slok didn't know this would happen. Bears killing each other is common in the Arctic, and he was the only oddball in the entire Arctic.

Even he, who couldn't bring himself to bite other bears, had already become accustomed to seeing Caesar kill that male bear.

When Guo Mi saw it, she didn't react in any special way. So why did Caesar never go to see her again after seeing Guo Mi, nor did he mention reconciliation again?

Caesar didn't know why either, probably because of the look Guo Mi gave him at the end.

Although he didn't say anything, Caesar was certain that Guo Mi wouldn't see him again anytime soon, at least not until those two little cubs reached adulthood.

Caesar suddenly thought of something and turned to ask Slok:

What was the last thing she said to you that day?

Slok paused for a moment, then replied:

She said you looked like you were injured and told me to keep an eye on you.

After listening, Caesar lowered his head, and after a long while, he suddenly let out a soft scoff:
"I reminded you, why didn't you come and take a look yourself? It's all because of those two little brats."

Seeing that Caesar looked ready to take his anger out on the bear again, Slok hesitated for a while before finally saying:
“Kay, Caesar, I think the problem between you and Guo Mi might not be because of those two little brats.”

"what is that?!"

Caesar said coldly:
"If it weren't for having those two little brats with me, there wouldn't be so much trouble!!"

Slok's ears twitched twice as he tried to recall what Guo Mi had said after falling while trying to catch bird eggs and arguing with Caesar again:

“Guo Mi told me something before, but I forgot to tell you. I can’t quite remember it now. It was something like, if what you say goes against your heart, then you shouldn’t say it at all.”

Caesar didn't understand, or rather, he didn't have the patience to listen to this right now.

Slok could see his impatience, so he could only say in a low voice:

“Caesar, sometimes you know perfectly well what Guo Mi doesn’t like, but you still deliberately make her unhappy…”

Caesar interrupted:
"I don't like those two little brats either, so why can't she let me eat them!"

Slok's desire for a proper conversation vanished instantly, leaving him somewhat speechless.

Why else? Because Guo Mi didn't want to get close to you, but you insisted on sticking to her. Not only did you stick to her, you even tried to bite her teddy bear to death!

"If you don't eat your own kind, why did you have to eat those two little ones?"

Slok, emboldened, continued:
"I don't know what's going on between you two, and I don't know why you insist on clinging to Guo Mi. All I know is that if you continue like this, the two of you are probably not suitable to be friends at all!"

It has to be said that he has a unique way of provoking Caesar, and even when Caesar is not in the mood, he still manages to provoke him into anger!
Slok felt a chill run down his spine and quickly fled from the bushes before Caesar could raise his claws to strike him!
