Chapter 53 He wanted to kill him!
Slok was completely dumbfounded. What was going on? Had something terrible happened this year? Why were all the bears refusing to go ashore?

He took two steps forward, crouched down, and rubbed against Caesar:

"The last ice floes are about to leave."

Caesar grunted in agreement.
"So why are you still here?"

"..."

Slok was now certain that Caesar wasn't joking.

Standing still, the wind blowing from the sea seemed to blow the moisture into my brain. After struggling for a while, I stiffly took two steps to face Caesar and then lay down!

Caesar was caught off guard and found himself face to face with him, their noses almost touching. He jumped up abruptly and said irritably:
"what are you doing?"

Slok looked up, his eyes moist and on the verge of tears, and asked in a choked voice:
"Kaiser, Caesar, are we not allowed to go ashore on the ice floes this year?"

Caesar looked at his foolish appearance, and a question mark slowly appeared in his eyes.

But Slok had already imagined a lot!
Is it because the ice floes melted early this year?!

A bear like him is certainly not as experienced as Caesar; perhaps he already knew that the ice floes couldn't be used this year!
Then why did he urge him to get onto the ice floe?!

Slok gasped!
He knew it must be because he kept bothering Caesar. Caesar didn't want to kill him because they were brothers, but he couldn't take it anymore, so Caesar was going to trap him on the ice floe!

He wanted to drown him!
Is this what a cold-blooded older brother is like? How vicious!
Slok's gaze toward Caesar was immediately filled with terror. He scrambled to his feet and quickly moved away from Caesar, staring at him with lingering fear.

Caesar could tell at a glance that Slok's small brain must have been filled with all sorts of wild and imaginative thoughts.

But let him imagine it if he wants; Caesar didn't care at all and lay back down on the huge rock, closing his eyes to rest.

A moment later, a heart-wrenching scream was heard from Slok:

"I won't let you succeed. I'll haunt you for the rest of my life, and you won't get rid of me!"

Caesar was finally jolted awake by this accusation from the soul. Through his blurry vision, he could only see Slok's furious figure as he scurried away, wiggling his hips. He scoffed inwardly.
Stupid bear.

Slok was furious and ran wildly with his head down. When he finally came to his senses, he had no idea where he was.

He looked around, and finally could only slink back to the seaside following his own scent. He watched from afar as Caesar lay on the rocks by the sea, showing no sign of worrying about him, and felt another surge of anger in his heart!
Caesar opened his eyes at the smell and saw Slok standing on a rock not far away, glaring at him fiercely. He simply closed his eyes again, out of sight, out of mind.

Slok watched as the polar bear, who was sleeping on the rock, even rolled over and carried him completely on its back. Finally, he couldn't stand it anymore, turned around, and ran away without looking back!
So, after a busy day, Master Guo saw the sulking polar bear by the lake again.

"Slok?"

Guo Mi was somewhat surprised and took a few steps forward:

"Why are you still here? Weren't you supposed to get onto the ice floes?" Have all the ice floes already drifted away?

Turning her head, Guo Mi saw the male bear's red-rimmed eyes and froze. After a long while, she tentatively asked:
"what happened to you?"

Slok turned to look at her, his expression filled with grief and indignation. He rattled off what had just happened, then listed Caesar's "crimes" from childhood to adulthood, and finally glared angrily at Guo Mi.

Guo Mi fell silent. Caesar didn't seem like the kind of male bear who had the patience to beat around the bush. If he really didn't want him to live, he might have killed him on the spot.

But what is he doing staying on the island?!

Although she briefly considered that it might be because of herself, Guo Mi quickly dismissed the idea.

After all, they should have been estranged since that argument. After a moment's thought, Guo Mi decided to avoid this sensitive topic of "family ties" and instead approached the issue tactfully from another angle:
"Perhaps you're just overthinking it."

Slok's tone was resolute:
"Absolutely impossible! He always gets on the ice floe ahead of time, this is the only exception!"

Guo Mi's friendly suggestion:

"Actually, you should go and ask your other friends. There must be more polar bears than just Caesar who are experienced in living in the Arctic. What if other polar bears you know have also come aboard the ice floes?"

Slok's expression went blank for a moment. He looked at Guo Mi hesitantly, feeling that what she said seemed to make a lot of sense.
Guo Mi sighed inwardly; Slok's simple-mindedness was once again vividly demonstrated.

However, perhaps we can't entirely blame him; everyone is especially sensitive in front of someone they have a close relationship with.

For example, parents or spouses, a small action or word from them can be blown out of proportion, to the point that people often lose their temper. In the end, they reserve their tolerance for outsiders and their fierceness for their loved ones.

For Slok, Caesar was a very important older brother.

Seeing Slok's conflicted expression, Guo Mi considerately left first, giving him space to think independently.

After a while, the male bear trotted over and whispered to Guo Mi:
"Then, should I go and apologize to Caesar?"

Guo Mi's eye twitched. To be honest, Caesar and his younger brother probably had a severe lack of communication.

If Slok were to apologize, Caesar would probably just listen listlessly, and might even say something sarcastic. In the end, the most likely outcome would be that Slok would come running back in a huff.

Given that it was already late, Guo Mi suggested to Slock:
"Perhaps you should go find your other friends, or check if there are any other polar bears on the ice floes."

Slok readily agreed, then immediately got up and wobbled off toward the beach.

Looking at his back, Guo Mi couldn't help but sigh, "He has such good stamina."

Unlike temperate regions, the Arctic doesn't have a hot climate. Plus, being near the sea, even if the wind is strong, there will still be moisture the next morning.

It's very difficult for Guo Mi to harvest a whole drying rack of fish.

She had to flip the fish over on time, and then put them back into the hole at night. The next day, after the moisture had dissipated, she would put the fish back on the drying platform.

Each trip takes a lot of effort, and after discarding the rotten ones, the harvest is very small.

Looking at the fish that had just been moved out of the cave and laid out, Guo Mi was helpless.

I had high hopes that I could at least store a whole cave full of fish before summer fully arrived, but now it seems impossible.

After confirming that there were no other bears around, Guo Mi decided to expand the sunbathing platform. The next morning, she took the two bear cubs to the lake to catch some more fish.

In the distance, another polar bear suddenly appeared standing by the lake, its fur disheveled by the wind, looking as if it had been waiting for a long time.

Guo Mi knew without guessing that it was Slok; it seemed to have become his standard entrance.

Slok smelled Guo Mi's scent and immediately ran over, looking utterly dejected, and said in a mournful voice:
"Guo Mi, the ice floe has drifted away."

Fun Fact:

In the summer, most polar bears choose to board ice floes and drift at sea with them. Only a few polar bears are left on the island for specific reasons, such as courtship.

Sometimes, sea ice floes can drift 30 kilometers overnight.
