To be honest, in this torrential rain, Billy always thinks of his missing brother.
That day, like today, was a day of torrential rain so heavy that visibility was completely reduced.
He was lying in bed with a cold and fever. In a bad mood, he yelled at his younger brother a few times. His brother went out to play alone in the rain and never came back.
His parents, of course, wouldn't blame him, but Billy couldn't forgive himself.
If he had been a little more patient and played with his younger brother that day, would he not have gone missing?
Billy knew that his brother had been kidnapped by the clown in the small town of Derry.
Billy loved reading. He once read a terrifying legend in an old book about a clown in the town of Derry who would kidnap children.
He would appear in the town from time to time, abduct children, and then take them to hell.
The book only describes the clown in a few simple sentences, but Billy imprinted those sentences deeply in his mind.
Because he saw it.
On the day his younger brother went missing, he and his parents went out to search in the heavy rain. He found his brother's toys and a popped red balloon on the street.
Clowns at amusement parks often carry red balloons.
Billy keenly connects the two things: he wants to find the Joker and get him to hand over his brother.
He secretly investigated matters related to the Joker and was horrified to discover that none of the adults in Derry knew of the Joker's existence, and even thought that Billy had gone mad because of his brother's disappearance.
This time, he discovered clown traces near his neighbor's house. He had seen red balloons several times in his neighbor's house, yard, and backyard.
He knew that the clown had his eye on the family's child.
Billy told the adults that no one believed him, and he decided to take matters into his own hands and not let the clown succeed again.
Billy didn't consider that he was just a kid in his early teens, nor did he consider how big the gap was between him and the Joker. He recklessly ran into the rain to his neighbor's backyard, saw a red balloon, and disappeared through the narrow window of the basement.
The torrential rain drowned out all sound, and when someone suddenly appeared behind Billy, Billy admitted that he was so scared that he almost wet his pants.
Lin Bei looked down at the stunned Billy, frowned, and repeated, "Hey kid, didn't you hear me? Go back now, this isn't a place for you."
Billy still didn't react.
Billy wiped his face shakily. His face was ashen and filled with shock. He stared at Lin Bei for a long time before regaining his composure.
"Who...who are you? Why...why is it raining..."
Seeing his dazed expression, Lin Bei frowned in disdain. He moved his fingers and activated the power of the Shadow Monarch, causing black liquid to surge out from beneath his feet.
The black liquid swept Billy up and pushed him backward, placing the child right into Constantine's arms as he rushed over with an umbrella.
Catherine looked at Billy in surprise: "Billy, what are you doing here in this heavy rain? You're not looking for that clown you mentioned again, are you? I've told you before, there's no clown like that in Derry Town..."
Lin Bei interrupted Catherine calmly: "Billy wasn't lying. The Joker does exist in Derry. The children who went missing before were all tricked and killed by the Joker, Pennywise. You can't handle him. Just stay here and don't follow us."
As he spoke, Lin Bei glanced at Constantine.
Constantine put Billy down and pushed him next to Catherine, lit a cigarette with one hand, and nodded silently.
That means, don't worry, he'll make sure those two don't go and die.
Lin Bei then reached out to push the basement door.
The basement door, which had been sturdy just moments before, suddenly shattered and broke into countless pieces that fell into the water.
Billy stared in shock, his mouth agape, and when he looked at Lin Bei, a hint of fear flickered in his eyes.
Lin Bei remained calm and slowly stepped into the basement.
The basement was pitch black with very low visibility, and the air was filled with a salty, fishy smell, like the rotting smell of wood that had been soaked in water for a long time.
Lin Bei walked deeper into the basement with a normal expression, and heard the sound of running water under his feet, as if he had stepped into the water.
Lin Bei's expression remained unchanged as he continued walking forward.
He walked in the darkness, as if he were no longer in the basement. After all, where is the basement? No matter how you walk, you can't reach the end.
Soon, a splash of color appeared in the darkness ahead.
Lin Bei paused, looked up, and saw a red balloon.
The red balloon floated silently in the darkness ahead, seemingly waiting for Lin Bei to approach. A long, thin rope hung down, trembling slightly in the darkness.
Lin Bei narrowed his eyes, a cold glint in them. He realized that it was the clown Pennywise provoking him, so he simply raised his hand and unleashed magic on the red balloon.
"The Divine Edge is Shadowless!"
As soon as he finished speaking, several white blades appeared out of thin air in front of Lin Bei. The white blades exuded a chill and flew up and down in the air, slashing at the red balloon in the distance at an extremely fast speed.
With a loud "bang," the red balloon burst, and red fragments fell everywhere. One of them landed motionless in the dark sky.
Lin Bei's vision was unaffected by the darkness; he had already seen that behind the red balloon, there was a dark and ugly clown. The clown was holding the string of the red balloon and shaking it slightly, and the red fragment fell on him.
At this moment, the clown was crouching in the darkness directly in front of Lin Bei, still clutching the thin string of the red balloon in his hand, though the balloon was no longer attached.
The clown stared at Lin Bei with a gloomy expression, without saying a word.
Lin Bei smiled faintly at the clown: "Nice to meet you, Pennywise. You can call me Lin Bei. I've come to Derek Town to kill you."
The clown, who had been looking sinister, suddenly burst into an ugly and exaggerated laugh when he heard the words "kill you".
In the darkness, the clown laughed so hard he fell to the ground, rolling around in his stomach and making exaggerated gestures: "Kill me? Hahahaha, you want to kill me? Good heavens, I don't know where you came from, you young upstart, and I don't know how powerful you really are, hahahaha, but good heavens, after you said those two words, I'm certain of one thing: you know absolutely nothing about me. You know, when you don't understand your opponent, but you're standing in front of them, good heavens, poor young man, you're just throwing your life away!"
The clown laughed as he got back up.
He stared at Lin Bei in the darkness, his face, painted with exaggerated oil paint, carrying a strange expression.
Instead of approaching Lin Bei, the clown exaggeratedly pulled something out of his pocket, put it to his mouth, puffed out his cheeks, and blew on it forcefully.
He's blowing up a balloon.
After blowing it several times, the red balloon that had finally inflated deflated again.
The clown is known for using his exaggerated and comical acting to amuse people, and he has done so in the past, fooling countless children with this trick.
Of course, over the past few hundred or even thousand years, he has also fooled adults.
However, as the years went by, he gradually discovered that children were easier to fool and tasted better.
After blowing up the balloon a few times, the clown deliberately bent over, hands on his knees, panting heavily. He secretly glanced at the human out of the corner of his eye. In the past, Pennywise could always tell the strength of a human at a glance, which was another reason why he chose the child.
How powerful can a child be? They can completely break down after being scared a few times.
Adults are more troublesome. They are certainly not as strong as him, but their psychological defenses are several layers stronger than those of children.
Of course, in Pennywise's view, dealing with adults just requires spending a little more time.
But when Pennywise saw the human before him, a long-lost sense of wariness rose in his heart.
Pennywise's intuition told him that this human was not someone to be trifled with.
He was completely different from any of the humans Pennywise had encountered before; he was utterly unfathomable, and surprisingly, he lacked the fear that other humans should possess.
This is impossible.
How can humans not experience fear?
He is the embodiment of human fear.
As long as fear exists in the human heart, it will always exist.
But this human was so strange; he couldn't sense a single negative emotion from him.
There was no fear, no anger, no panic, nothing at all.
Yes, there was only peace and tranquility, as if he were not in the clown's dangerous space, but in the afternoon garden of the old lady next door!
Pennywise continued blowing up balloons, but his bloodshot eyes remained fixed on Lin Bei.
How do I lure this human into a trap?
Pennywise decided to play it safe and use his usual method: first, lower the human's guard, and then, once the human approached him, tear him apart and eat him.
Thinking this, Pennywise's uneasy heart calmed down again. He grinned and successfully inflated the red balloon.
When Pennywise used exaggerated body language to face Lin Bei, wanting him to come and get the balloon, Lin Bei sneered: "Hey, Pennywise, are you putting me in the same category as an ordinary person? Who do you look down on? Do you look down on me? Fine, I'm coming over now. You'd better stay put and not move. I don't have the time to waste looking for you."
As he spoke, Lin Bei walked slowly forward, heading straight for Pennywise.
Pennywise was just moments ago extremely confident, believing that as long as he lured this human closer to him, he would be able to tear this human apart and eat him, just like he had done with the humans before.
But now, as this human gets closer and closer to him, he panics.
As Lin Bei drew closer, Pennywise sensed an extremely powerful sense of oppression. With each step Lin Bei took forward, the pressure pressed down on his shoulders. When Lin Bei was very close, Pennywise felt an immense fear engulf his entire body.
what happened?
He lives on fear, so why does he feel fear himself?
Pennywise stared at Lin Bei in disbelief, the red balloon in his hand slipping from his grasp and drifting into the darkness above.
When the red balloon disappeared, only one thought remained in Pennywise's mind.
run.
I can't let him get close to me.
Pennywise, always cunning, now sensed immense danger. He stopped trying to hold on, clasped his hands together and then separated them, and countless red balloons appeared out of thin air, enveloping him.
Lin Bei paused. He had the ability to stop Pennywise from escaping, but he decided to let Pennywise go for now.
Lin Bei suddenly remembered that if he didn't destroy Pennywise's lair, then even if he killed Pennywise multiple times, he would be resurrected in the next twenty-seven years.
As long as fear exists in the human heart, Pennywise will live forever.
Lin Bei remained where he was, letting Pennywise disappear from his sight.
Just as countless red balloons burst open, the surrounding darkness receded like a tide, revealing the original appearance of the narrow, dimly lit basement to Lin Bei.
Outside, the muffled rumble of thunder accompanied by the torrential rain reappeared.
Lin Bei glanced down at the shattered red balloons scattered on the ground, his eyes darkening slightly, then turned and strode out of the basement.
When he returned to the rain, he found Constantine, Catherine, and Billy still standing there.
Both Catherine and Billy had serious expressions on their faces. Catherine had already learned a lot about the Joker from Billy, but since Billy was just a child, she still had some doubts about what he said.
Seeing Lin Bei emerge, Catherine's anxiety subsided, and she quickly asked, "How did it go...? Did you handle the clown?"
As she spoke, Catherine looked behind Lin Bei.
When Lin Bei went in, the basement was pitch black and bottomless. Now, it looked normal again. Although it was a bit dim, the outline of the basement could be seen through the stairs that led down.
Lin Bei shook his head slightly: "No, he ran away. Don't worry, I can handle it before dawn. Officer Catherine, please inform all the townspeople that no one should step out of their homes tonight. By the time the sun rises, Pennywise will have completely disappeared from the town of Derry."
Before Catherine could reply, Billy excitedly rushed to Lin Bei's side, looking up at him: "Are you telling the truth? What about my brother? What about the other missing children? Will they... will they come back?"
Lin Bei looked down at Billy, who was trembling all over, pale-faced, and staring at Lin Bei with fear in his eyes.
Lin Bei was silent for a moment, then said calmly, "You already know the answer in your heart, so why are you asking me?"
Lin Bei walked past Billy and whispered as he passed Constantine, "Keep an eye on them. I don't want them to come and cause trouble."
Constantine, a cigarette dangling from his lips, looked past Lin Bei and onto the child who was once again drenched in the rain, and nodded silently.
After Lin Bei finished explaining, he leaped up and landed above the town of Derui.
He looked around and his gaze fell on a grove of trees deep in the heart of the town of Derui.
He remembered that at the end of that forest, there was an abandoned cabin.
There is a well in the hut.
Jumping down the well will take you to Pennywise's lair.
Pennywise just fled in fear and is probably hiding in his lair now. Let's pray that Lin Bei leaves the town of Derry as soon as possible.
Lin Bei, of course, would not do as he wished.
This guy has been entrenched in the town of Derui for a hundred years, and has eaten countless people. He is neither a demon nor a monster, but a manifestation of consciousness, much like a curse.
Lin Bei was curious: if Pennywise were cut into small cubes, could he still be reunited and resurrected?
In the original storyline, Pennywise was immune to physical damage. (End of Chapter)
