Hearing Lin Bei's words, the police officer adjusted his belt and looked him up and down with a hesitant expression: "You mean you have the ability to solve the problems of the entire town of Derui? May I ask who you are, a policeman, a detective, or a retired soldier?"

Just as the fat officer blocked Constantine and Lin Bei's car on the only road into the town, another female officer in a police car parked by the roadside noticed something was wrong, got out of the car, and strode over.

"Hey Tim, what's going on? Do they really have to go in?"

Tim adjusted his hat brim, a smile on his chubby face, though his eyes held a hint of disdain: "Yeah, Catherine, these two young men say they're capable of handling things in our town. That's quite an exaggeration. If the FBI heard about what happened in Derry, they definitely wouldn't send two greenhorns, would they?"

The black policewoman, known as Catherine, approached the car; she was clearly easier to deal with than Tim's arrogance.

Catherine has been a police officer in the small town of Derry for nearly thirty years. She can tell at a glance whether a stranger is good or bad, and she can also roughly deduce their profession.

Strangely, when Catherine's gaze fell on the two young people sitting in the convertible, she couldn't see anything at all.

Catherine paused for a second, then quickly covered up her lapse in composure and waved to the two of them with a smile: "Hello, I'm sorry to inform you that the town of Derui is currently under martial law. We need to strictly control the entry and exit of vehicles. If you don't have anything urgent, you may be able to come back in three months."

Lin Bei preferred Catherine's attitude, but upon hearing "three months," he couldn't help but scoff: "Three months? You really don't care about those missing children? Right now, there should be less than ten missing children in your town. If this drags on any longer, the number will exceed twenty. Can you bear that responsibility?"

Catherine froze, then looked up at Tim, frowning as she asked, "You told them about what happened in town?"

Tim looked puzzled as well, scratching his chin. "Please, how could I possibly say that? I'd love to kick them out, but if I remember correctly, the mayor said this morning that we had to keep the news under wraps and absolutely not let it leak out. And for half a month now, no outside vehicles have come in and no one has left... So, how did you know?"

Tim, his previous disdain and arrogance gone, couldn't help but wonder where these two people, perhaps reporters or detectives, got their information from.
Catherine frowned, staring intently at Lin Bei, her right hand quietly moving to her lower back: "How did you know that children had gone missing in Derui Town, and how do you know the approximate number of missing persons? What is your relationship with the kidnappers?"

Constantine, who was standing to the side, chuckled and smoked: "Hey Lin Bei, I had no idea there were any missing children here. If you don't give me a reasonable explanation, this policewoman will kill us in the next second."

Lin Bei pinched the bridge of his nose and glanced indifferently at Catherine.

Compared to Tim, this Catherine was clearly more experienced and a qualified veteran police officer. However, when this female police officer with thirty years of experience met Lin Bei's indifferent gaze, she didn't know why, but she felt a chill run down her spine.

She gripped the gun handle at her waist without revealing any flaws; she had done this action countless times, and no one could see through her movements in front of her.

Unexpectedly, not only did the black-haired young man in front of her see through her, but even the dejected young man beside him could see through her.

A bead of cold sweat slid down Catherine's forehead. Thirty years of professional experience told her that the two people in front of her were either accomplices of the kidnappers or genuinely there to solve the problems of the town of Derry.

Lin Bei immediately saw through what Catherine was thinking. He shook his head helplessly, deciding not to provoke the dutiful old policeman any further. He reached out and tapped the car frame to draw everyone's attention back.

“How would I know about the town of Derui? That’s not the point. The point is that I want to resolve this peacefully, to find that guy and take him down, not destroy the town of Derui along with him. I’m just telling you that all the children who went missing before are dead. The focus now should be on the children who are still alive. That guy comes out every twenty years or so to kill a wave of children. Your memories have been altered, so you don’t remember anything from before. Is there anything else you want to ask?”

The fact that Lin Bei was able to sit in the car and answer Catherine's questions already showed that he had shown a great deal of patience. Although he could be considered a god in this world, Lin Bei still respected those who upheld his beliefs.

After saying what he wanted to say, Lin Bei lightly tapped the car frame and continued slowly, "If you don't have any questions, I advise you to cooperate with our operation before things get serious. Otherwise, if there are more casualties, you can only blame yourselves for being too confident in your abilities."

After hearing Lin Bei's arrogant remarks, Tim, looking displeased, adjusted his belt and said, "Hey, you outsider, watch your manners. We haven't found any useful information yet, but you haven't even entered the town of Derui. What right do you have to..."

Before Tim could finish speaking, Catherine stopped him, pushed him aside, and leaned close to the car, asking gravely, "Can you guarantee that everything you're saying is true? If I let you into Derry Town, I will be responsible for all your actions in the town. Right now, the families of the missing children are very emotional, and the other townspeople are also tense and uneasy. You know what kind of reaction two strangers appearing in Derry Town will cause. If you're even slightly distracted, you might be attacked by overly emotional parents... Are you willing to bear these consequences yourself?"

Lin Bei propped his chin on one hand, looking calmly at Catherine. He didn't speak, but instead moved his fingers to activate the power of the Shadow Monarch.

A gloomy sky rumbled with thunder, and a wisp of black liquid appeared along Lin Bei's fingertip. To Tim and Catherine's astonishment, the slender black liquid, as thin as a little finger, instantly pounced on Catherine.

Catherine was so frightened that she took a half step back. Before she could react, the black liquid slid up her back and easily pulled the gun from her waistband.

Lin Bei calmly manipulated the black liquid, held the gun up to Catherine and Tim, and said indifferently, "Well, are we qualified to enter the town of Derry now?"

Lin Bei's words brought Tim back to his senses. He took several steps back, exclaiming "God!" and repeatedly asking, "What is that thing?"

In comparison, Catherine was much calmer. She took her gun from the black liquid, tucked it behind her back, and frowned at Tim: "Calm down."

Then Catherine turned to look at Lin Bei, tapped the car frame, and pointed to the town of Derui behind them: "Let's go, it's going to rain heavily. The hotels in Derui are not accepting outsiders recently, so the two of you can stay at my place."

Lin Bei wasn't surprised by Catherine's request.

She was a responsible veteran police officer, and she said this simply because she wanted to monitor them 24 hours a day to prevent them from potentially harming the town of Derui.

Lin Bei looked at Constantine, who was holding the steering wheel with one hand and exhaling a smoke ring: "Lead the way, Ms. Catherine."

Catherine nodded, signaling Tim to stand guard at the town entrance and leave the police car to him. She then got into Lin Bei and Constantine's car and drove towards the town of Derui.

Catherine lives in the center of the town of Derry. Her husband and children died in a car accident three years ago, and now she lives alone.

As the convertible drove toward the center of the town of Derui, Lin Bei clearly sensed that the atmosphere in the town was strange.

The atmosphere was gloomy and oppressive, hanging over the town. There were few pedestrians and cars on the road, but wherever a car drove, it would attract the attention of passersby.

Lin Bei noticed that the passersby looked wary. If Catherine hadn't been in their car, the townspeople might have actually gathered together and taken the two of them into custody.

Catherine is right, she is protecting them.

Although Lin Bei does not need protection.

When the car stopped in front of Catherine's house, all the neighbors came over and stood not far from Catherine's house, watching them with a sinister look.

This scene made Constantine uncomfortable. He tugged at his tie and stopped the car in annoyance: "What's wrong with these guys? Are we some kind of monsters?"

In the back seat, Catherine patted Constantine on the shoulder, opened the door and got out of the car: "Child, you have to understand them. Their child is lost, and strangers have invaded their territory. If you were in their shoes, you would have the same expression."

As she spoke, Catherine strode towards the gathered neighbors. Lin Bei also got out of the car. He looked up at Catherine and saw her whisper a few words to the neighbors. The townspeople, who had just been wary, all showed expressions of astonishment. Their eyes reddened, and some women lowered their heads and sobbed. It seemed that Pennywise had a tremendous influence on this small town.

In Lin Bei's eyes, the curse of Pennywise shrouded the entire town of Dre, and anyone born there was destined to be unable to escape it.

When Catherine returned, the neighbors who had gathered had all dispersed. It was getting late, and as Catherine had said, a torrential downpour began outside when they entered her house.

The fine rain, like a heavy curtain, completely obscured the view outside the window. Catherine made coffee for the two of them. She wanted to sit down and talk to these two young men, especially the one who called himself Lin Bei. She was very curious about what kind of power he possessed.

And were the people who kidnapped the children in the town of Derui really not human?
On the way to the town of Derui, Catherine had already heard a brief introduction from Lin Bei about the town, but she felt it was necessary to gather more information.

However, just as Catherine sat down to talk to them, Lin Bei, who had been sitting by the French windows, suddenly moved.

He stood up, straightened his collar, and glanced indifferently at Constantine and Catherine: "I need to go out for a bit. You can come if you want, or it's fine if you don't."

With that, Lin Bei abandoned the two men and strode toward the gate.

Catherine quickly stood up and chased after him: "Hey Lin Bei, it's too late now, and it's pouring rain. If you have anything to investigate, you'd better tell us more soon..."

Under Catherine's watchful gaze, Lin Bei opened the door and stepped into the heavy rain.

Despite being in heavy rain, the raindrops did not fall on Lin Bei; in fact, a vacuum zone was formed around him.

This incredible scene left Catherine speechless with astonishment.

Lin Bei ignored her and hurried eastward toward Derui Town.

Catherine didn't bother going back to get her umbrella; she was about to rush into the heavy rain to chase after him when Constantine, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, held the umbrella over her head.

“Let’s go, ma’am. You’re going to keep an eye on us, right? I’ll come with you. As for Lin Bei, you don’t need to worry about his safety. Since he’s chosen to come to Derui Town, the child abduction cases that are giving you a headache in the town will be perfectly resolved in less than two days.”

Catherine breathed a sigh of relief. Indeed, she couldn't possibly monitor two people who were acting separately. She nodded and strode into the downpour with Constantine.

Let's get back to Linbei.

He rushed into the heavy rain and headed east.

When Lin Bei entered the town of Derui, he sensed that it was filled with strange and eerie forces.

He knew, of course, that this was Pennywise's ability, but it would still take some effort to truly expose him.

After all, Pennywise was so good at hiding, and it was through hiding that he tricked and ate the children one by one.

The further east Lin Bei walked, the more familiar the surrounding buildings seemed.

He has seen it.

Lin Bei remembered that in the original storyline, this place was near Billy's house.

Billy had a younger brother who died at the hands of Pennywise. It was raining heavily that day, just like today, and the rainwater flowed down the drain into the street sewer.

The sewer opening was flat and narrow, but large enough for a child to pass through.

Pennywise hid in the sewers, luring Billy's brother step by step into the trap.

Finally, it disappeared into the torrential rain.

Less than two weeks after Billy's brother went missing, another heavy rainstorm struck.

While at Catherine's house, Lin Bei sensed a force stirring beneath the town of Derui, heading east.

When Lin Bei stopped, he looked up and saw a detached house in front of him.

This is Billy's house next door.

Lin Bei glanced briefly at the decorations at the entrance and the toys scattered on the lawn, and could roughly guess that this was where a couple lived with their three children.

It seems Pennywise is planning to abduct children again.

Lin Bei didn't go up and knock on the door directly, but instead walked around the small building.

He stopped at the entrance to the basement outside, looking at the thin figure soaked in the rain in the corner, and pinched his brow helplessly: "Billy."

Billy was startled, only then realizing that someone was standing behind him. He stopped prying open the basement door lock, wiped the rain off his face, and asked warily, "Who are you? You're not from Derry Town."

Lin Bei didn't answer Billy. He originally thought Pennywise was trying to kidnap one of the children in the family, but he didn't expect that this guy was planning to eat Billy along with him.

After his brother went missing, Billy was determined to find him. Through his tireless investigation, he was eventually targeted by Pennywise.

This scene didn't happen in the original story, but it's pretty much the same.

If Billy were to enter this family's basement, he would definitely be eaten by Pennywise, instead of escaping death every time like in the original story.

Lin Bei frowned slightly. He strode forward, grabbed Billy by the back of his collar, and threw him onto the grass behind him. Looking down at him, he said, "I know what you're up to. What's coming next is beyond your ability to handle. Go home now!" (End of Chapter)
