“Vera! Hermione!” She rushed to the Gryffindor table, her green eyes sparkling. “Guess what? Professor McGonagall didn’t expel me! She—she let me join the Gryffindor Quidditch team! I’m the Seeker!”
Hermione's eyes widened in surprise: "What? But aren't first-year students not allowed to join the Quidditch team?"
“Professor McGonagall gave me special approval!” Harley sat down excitedly, lowering her voice. “Wood… he’s our captain, and he said I’m the youngest college team player in a century!”
Vera smiled slightly: "Congratulations, Harley."
Harley's face flushed with excitement as she turned to Vera, her green eyes brimming with gratitude: "Thank you, Vera. If it weren't for you letting me go after Malfoy—"
“I didn’t do anything,” Vera interrupted her, shaking her head gently. “It’s your own talent and ability.”
Harley scratched her head shyly, her eyes sparkling: "At least from now on, I can fly with you."
Vera paused, then subconsciously looked down at the food on her plate and said softly, "Let's talk about it later."
Chapter Thirty-Three: Wizard Duel (Ten Updates)
Harley, keenly sensing Vera's change in mood, quickly added, "I mean, if you'd like... I can slowly take you flying, starting from a very low altitude..."
Vera looked up at Harley's cautious expression and smiled slightly. "Okay, when you have time."
"You two are really something else," Hermione said, rolling her eyes.
Just then, Fred and George Weasley from the Weasley family walked into the dining room. They spotted Harley immediately and quickly came over to greet her.
"Hey, new Seeker!" George patted Harley on the shoulder. "Wood told us, welcome to the team!"
Harley smiled a little shyly: "Thank you, I'll try my best."
“By the way,” Fred lowered his voice, “I heard you had a falling out with that Malfoy kid?”
George asked with a wicked grin, "Want me to teach you a few little curses to play a trick on that kid?"
Hermione frowned. "You can't do this! This is a prank!"
“Relax, Granger,” George waved his hand dismissively. “What student in school doesn’t know a few prank spells? They won’t really hurt anyone.”
Vera slowly put down her fork and said casually, "The curse is indeed useful, but if it's discovered, it will violate school rules. You guys should be able to make some prank props that no one can detect, right?"
Fred and George exchanged a glance, their expressions showing great interest: "Oh? How did Miss Black know we had such thoughts?"
Vera gently turned her wheelchair to face the Weasley twins, a sly glint in her dark eyes: "Just a coincidence. After all, compared to using magic directly as a prank, a smart person would think that a prop is more subtle and more interesting, wouldn't they?"
Fred and George's eyes lit up at the same time, as if they had found a kindred spirit.
"That's absolutely right!" Fred exclaimed excitedly, slapping the table. "We are indeed developing some gadgets, but we've hit a bottleneck... but we should be able to break through soon!"
George leaned closer to Vera and lowered his voice: "Are you interested in this? How about joining our research and development team?"
Hermione gasped, "You can't do this! And Vera's health isn't suitable for such dangerous activities!"
Harley frowned as well, and although she didn't say anything, she looked at Vera's legs with some concern.
Vera gently raised her hand to signal them to calm down, then smiled slightly at the twins: "If you need some advice, I'd be happy to help, but when it comes to the specifics of implementation, you'll have to experiment on your own."
Fred and George exchanged an excited look and said in unison, "No problem!"
"Then it's settled." Vera calmly picked up the pumpkin juice and took a sip.
Watching the Weasley twins leave, Hermione frowned with worry: "Vera, wouldn't you say you're encouraging them to break school rules...?"
“It’s okay,” Vera raised an eyebrow. “As long as you don’t get caught, it’s not considered a violation.”
Gryffindor, always has been.
Harley chuckled at her words, her green eyes crinkling into crescents: "That's right! Vera is absolutely right!"
Hermione looked shocked: "Vera, what happened to you—"
Before she could finish speaking, an arrogant voice came from behind her: "Having your last supper, Potter? Are you about to take the train back to Muggles?"
Malfoy, with Crabbe and Goyle by his side, stood at the Slytherin table, a mocking smile on his face.
Harley's face instantly darkened. She put down her fork and looked coldly at Malfoy: "Now that you have the energy to talk here, why don't you just run away like you did this afternoon?"
Malfoy's face flushed bright red: "You—"
"What?!" Harley stood up, her green eyes flashing dangerously. "Want to fight?"
Vera gently tugged at Harry's robe: "Sit down, Harry. Don't cause trouble in the Great Hall."
Hermione nervously tugged at Harley's other sleeve: "Yes, the professors are still sitting in the faculty section."
Harley took a deep breath and forced herself back into her seat, but her eyes remained fixed on Malfoy.
Seeing that Harley had been persuaded, Malfoy grew bolder: "It seems our savior listens to her crippled friend."
The entire Gryffindor table fell silent instantly.
Vera could feel Harry's body tense up instantly; in fact, she herself unconsciously gripped the wheelchair armrests.
"What did you say?" Harley's voice was terrifyingly low.
“Don’t rush me, I’m ready to fight you one-on-one anytime,” Malfoy said, his eyes now shining with a determined light, unlike his flustered state that afternoon. “If you have no objections, let’s have a wizarding duel tonight—no physical contact, just wands.”
He glanced at Harley's clenched fist beneath her wizard robes, and his lips twitched unconsciously. "If there's a conflict, resolve it the wizarding way. Don't bring your Muggle ways over here... Wait a minute, what's with that expression? Haven't you heard of wizard duels?"
Harley jumped to her feet: "I accept!"
Hermione gasped, "Harley! You can't—"
“Very good,” Malfoy said, raising his chin smugly. “Midnight, the prize room. The door there is never locked.”
Vera gently pulled Harry's wrist: "Sit down, Harry."
Harley stood stubbornly in place, looking at her defiantly: "But that's what he said about you!"
“I said, sit down.” Vera’s voice was soft, but it carried an undeniable force.
Harley bit her lip and finally sat down, but her shoulders remained tense.
Upon seeing this, Malfoy let out a contemptuous sneer: "It seems our savior only listens to the cripple."
Hearing his clumsy but grating provocation, Vera took a deep breath and slowly turned her wheelchair toward Malfoy, her long, silver-grey hair gleaming coldly in the candlelight.
"Draco, are you sure you want to do this?"
Her voice was so soft it was almost dangerous, her fingertips resting on the armrest of her wheelchair, her wand within easy reach.
Malfoy's expression changed, and he instinctively took a half-step back: "I... I was just inviting Potter..."
“If there’s a conflict, let’s resolve it like wizards,” Vera calmly repeated. “Don’t wizard duels need assistants? I can be Harley’s assistant, but—”
She paused, her gaze sweeping over Crabbe and Goyle behind him. "It doesn't matter who you choose as your assistant, but if you want us to accept the offer, you'll have to show some sincerity, for example..."
"Like what?" Malfoy asked warily, a hint of unease flashing in his gray eyes.
Vera chuckled: "It's simple. Whether you lost or were too cowardly to come, you have to apologize to Harley in front of the entire school and admit that the Malfoys' successor is a coward."

Chapter Thirty-Four: Mischievous Ghost
Malfoy's face flushed crimson instantly. He straightened his back, his grey eyes blazing with fury: "How dare you... Fine! Vera, I was even trying to give you some face—"
“If you think saving face means insulting me in public and provoking my friends,” Vera’s voice suddenly turned cold, “then calling you a coward is just a form of reciprocity.”
Malfoy's face turned from red to white, and he stammered as if he wanted to refute, but he couldn't say a word for a long time.
"What, you're afraid to agree?" Vera tilted her head slightly, her silver-gray hair cascading over her shoulder. "Or is it that the heir of the Malfoy family is too afraid to accept even this small bet?"
Crabbe and Goyle exchanged uneasy glances, while the surrounding students held their breath, awaiting Malfoy's response.
Vera tilted her head back slightly, a faint smile appearing on her face.
If Malfoy disagrees at this point, he will make a huge fool of himself.
Given the nature of Gryffindors, the news would spread throughout the entire school in less than half a day, and he would never be able to shake off the label of coward.
Even if he agrees, he must participate in the midnight duel for the sake of his own and his family's reputation; otherwise, his avoidance of the fight will still spread.
There's no reason for a kid like Ma Tianlong, who values family reputation, not to fall for his trap.
Sure enough, after a brief moment of hesitation, Malfoy gritted his teeth and said, "Of course I dare! But if you lose, Potter will have to admit in front of the whole school that she's a useless piece of trash protected by a cripple!"
Harley jumped to her feet, her fists clenched tightly: "You—"
Vera raised her hand to stop her, her gaze still fixed on Malfoy: "No problem, if you lose, you have to apologize to us in the Great Hall."
He snorted coldly, turned around, and strode away with his henchmen.
Watching them leave, Hermione's face grew even paler. She lowered her voice and said, "Are you all crazy? You actually agreed to him!"
Harley, however, clenched her fists excitedly, her green eyes gleaming with fighting spirit: "I'm not afraid of him! Vera, you were so cool just now!"
Vera shook her head gently and turned her wheelchair toward Hermione: "Don't worry, I'll have a backup plan."
"What do you mean?" Hermione asked, somewhat confused.
“Malfoy is a typical Slytherin; he knows better than anyone the consequences of being caught night-sleeping,” Vera calmly analyzed. “Not to mention he just got into trouble in flight class.”
If Harley had been led by the nose and agreed to the duel, he could have easily refused to come and secretly reported it to Filch, the night watchman, which could indeed have led to Harley's arrest.
Harley suddenly realized: "That's why he was so eager to provoke me!"
“But the situation is different now.” Vera smiled slightly. “The current situation is that Malfoy had to come for the sake of the family's honor, while we—”
She gave Harley a meaningful look. "We can set a trap in advance."
Harley leaned closer excitedly: "What trap?"
"Well..." Vera deliberately dragged out her words, looking at the two girls who were almost right in front of her, and raised an eyebrow, "I can't tell you yet."
The two were stunned for a moment, and then almost fell over.
Harley immediately puffed out her cheeks: "Vera! That's not fair! You...when did you become such a joker!"
Hermione frowned as well: "If it's some dangerous plan, we have the right to know."
“Trust me, you’ll understand before midnight.” Vera gently pushed her wheelchair back a step, a mysterious smile playing on her lips. “Give me some time, I’ll be right back.”
"Wait a minute!" Harley quickly stood up and followed. "At least let me join in... I mean, Malfoy only came to provoke us because of me, so if there's anything that needs to be prepared in advance, I can help!"
Vera looked up at her anxious and worried emerald eyes and suddenly reached out her hand.
Although somewhat confused, Harley leaned down slightly, stopping at a height where Vera could just touch her.
But Vera didn't actually touch her; her fingertips lingered in front of her eyes for a moment before quickly withdrawing.
“No need,” Vera said softly, turning her wheelchair around. “There are some things that are easier for me to do alone.”
After saying that, she left the auditorium.
Harley stood there for a while, watching her leave alone, feeling somewhat lost.
Hermione walked over and gently patted her shoulder: "Vera has always been very opinionated. Since she says she can handle it, let's trust her."
Harley bit her lip: "I just... don't want her to always be in front of me. I should be the one protecting her."
“You already protected her on the lawn earlier.” Hermione’s voice sounded somewhat melancholy. “And as you saw, Vera understands the way Malfoy thinks better than we do. It might be better for her to handle it.”
Harley was silent for a moment, then finally nodded, which was considered an agreement with her statement.
“But no matter what, we can’t just rely on Vera!” She gritted her teeth and made up her mind. “Hermione, let’s go to the library. I need to find some useful spells to prepare for tonight’s duel!”
Hermione looked at her in surprise: "Are you serious? We don't even know what Vera's plan is!"
“Precisely because we don’t know, we need to be prepared for both possibilities.” Harley’s green eyes gleamed with determination. “If Vera’s plan goes wrong, at least we can rely on ourselves.”
Hermione hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded: "Okay, but we have to be careful."
“Of course!” Harley grabbed Hermione’s hand. “Let’s go, while we still have time!”
The two hurriedly left the auditorium and ran towards the library.
On the other side, Vera pushed her wheelchair through the castle corridor, the wheelchair easily traversing each step thanks to a powerful levitation spell.
Ignoring the strange looks from the other students in the corridor, she slowly activated her magical circuits, helping her senses and search for the person she was looking for within the castle...
Finally, Vera stopped in front of an abandoned classroom that few people passed by and slowly said, "Pikachu, I see you."
Her voice echoed in the empty corridor, carrying a certain certainty.
After a moment of silence, a chuckle suddenly came from the ceiling, and a small, pale ghost with black hair and black eyes peeked out from behind the chandelier.
If it were any other student, seeing Mischievous Ghost, who always liked to play pranks on teachers and students, they would most likely want to leave on the spot.
But Vera didn't. She sat quietly in her wheelchair, looked up at the elf in front of her, and smiled slightly.
