The sea monsters seemed to have encountered an invisible barrier; no matter how frantically they charged, they could not break through that defense.

Fifty meters away from them, piles of corpses had already accumulated, a bloody scene that was shocking to behold.

“Old city lord...this might...be...our...reinforcements.” Kuokas jumped down from the human ladder and said with a somewhat stiff expression.

Her voice carried a hint of uncertainty and anticipation, clearly shocked by the sudden arrival of reinforcements.

"Reinforcements? You mean our reinforcements have arrived? How many are there?" the old city lord exclaimed excitedly, his eyes gleaming with hope.

It was as if, in this moment of despair, the arrival of reinforcements gave them a glimmer of hope.

"It looks like there are only six or seven hundred people." Kuokas tried to keep her tone normal, but she couldn't completely hide her doubts. She knew that six or seven hundred people were far too few for such a massive battle.

Hearing this, the old city lord's initial excitement vanished: "Only six or seven hundred? We only have a little over two hundred soldiers left, less than a thousand in total... And without the protection of the city walls, how can they possibly withstand the merfolk's attack..."

His voice carried a hint of helplessness and worry, clearly indicating his skepticism about the strength of the reinforcements.

However, Kuokas had already jumped down from the human ladder formed by the soldiers. She gripped her sword tightly, and a glimmer of hope shone in her eyes.

She looked firmly at the old city lord and said, "Old city lord, they...they shouldn't be ordinary soldiers. Perhaps they are our saviors!"

Her tone was full of determination and trust, as if she could already see the hope of victory.

......

On the other side of the battlefield, Link and Claudia were leading their musketeers in a fierce battle.

The sounds of muskets rang out one after another, and the smoke filled the air, shrouding the entire battlefield in chaos.

"Lord Link, five muskets have overheated and are no longer usable, and we only have less than half a bullet left! We also only have a quarter of the explosives left!" Kuratia rushed over to report the current situation to Link.

Upon hearing this report, Link felt as if his heart was bleeding.

He knew this wasn't a war; it was burning through money!

These muskets and explosive packs were painstakingly prepared by them; each bullet and each explosive pack represented a huge investment.

He had only been here a short time, yet his energy was already so depleted, which made him feel a little distressed.

The murlocs' offensive gradually slowed down, after all, they had never encountered such an enemy before.

This inexplicable attack method resulted in them suffering more than half casualties before even getting close to the enemy.

The fishmen stared at the soldiers holding strange weapons, their eyes filled with fear and confusion.

They couldn't understand why these seemingly weak enemies possessed such destructive power.

Moreover, they are now facing a predicament of being surrounded from both sides, with the remaining murlocs gathering around the Naga as if waiting for something.

The Naga sea monster was their leader and their last hope. They longed for the Naga to lead them through the enemy's defenses and to victory.

Link raised his hand and said, "Musketeers, cease fire and inspect your weapons."

Upon hearing the order, the soldiers ceased firing and began checking their weapons.

The smoke began to dissipate slowly, the dust in the sky disappeared, and everything became very quiet.

"What's going on? Why aren't those sea monsters attacking anymore?" the soldiers on the city wall asked in surprise.

They gazed at the motionless sirens in the distance, their hearts filled with doubt and unease.

"What do those sea monsters want to do?" the old city lord asked, puzzled.

His eyes were fixed on the distance, trying to glean some clues from the siren's actions.

“Perhaps they want to deal with the most ‘powerful’ enemy first,” Kuokas said, glancing at the magical army in the distance.

She knew that although the army was small in number and had no city walls for protection, it possessed formidable fighting power.

Their appearance undoubtedly put enormous pressure on the sirens.

The Naga sea monster was holding two swords, looking at Link with intense hatred and killing intent in her eyes.

It was because of this guy in front of them that their siege, which should have gone smoothly, was forced to stop, and they paid such a heavy price.

Her heart was filled with hatred and resentment towards Link, and she vowed to tear him to pieces.

"What are they trying to do?" Dilva asked, standing beside Link, longsword in hand. She watched the sirens' strange behavior with a mixture of wariness and unease.

Link took a deep breath and said softly, "It's time to end this."

"Heavy armored shield bearers, listen up! The enemy's charge may be even more fierce next. Are your swords itching for fire?" Link shouted, trying to inspire the soldiers' fighting spirit.

"Roar! Roar! Roar!" The soldiers raised their shields high and roared excitedly. Their voices echoed through the sky, as if shaking the entire battlefield.

“Crush them!” Link shouted again, his voice filled with power and determination.

"Musketeers, fire freely in a moment!" Link ordered the musketeers. He knew the battle to come would be even more intense, and they had to be fully prepared.

"Understood!" the musketeer soldiers responded in unison, gripping their muskets tightly, their eyes gleaming with determination.

"Goo-ga!" The Naga sea monster suddenly raised the long sword in its hand and shouted loudly.

The sound wasn't unpleasant; it was like a loud chant, and it sounded quite beautiful.

However, behind this beautiful song lies endless murderous intent and conspiracy.

"What is she doing?" Link frowned, his heart filled with doubt and vigilance. He knew that this Naga siren was definitely not simply singing; she was surely plotting something.

“I don’t know either.” Master swallowed hard, looking ahead nervously. He could feel the intense killing intent and sense of crisis, as if a bloody massacre was about to occur.

"This... could this be the Naga's combat technique? Oh no! Those people are going to suffer a great loss!" The old city lord seemed to have realized something and exclaimed in alarm from the city wall.

His voice carried a hint of fear and unease, clearly indicating that he had realized the seriousness of the situation.

"Lord, do you know what this is?" Kuokas asked, equally puzzled. Looking at the old lord's terrified expression, he couldn't help but feel a pang of worry.

“Kuokas, I haven’t seen it with my own eyes either, but I’ve heard from the old steward that these beautiful Nagas are born with a terrifying skill, like the magic of a human mage. When they begin to sing, all the sea creatures go mad. That is when the sea god is angry…”

The old city lord spoke in a trembling voice, his eyes filled with fear and despair.

Upon hearing the Naga's song, the murlocs' appearances all changed noticeably.

Their skin, which originally appeared somewhat bluish, gradually turned red, and their bodies also grew larger than before.

Some of them were even more extreme, resembling inflated pufferfish, as if they were about to explode at any moment. Their eyes were filled with rage and murderous intent, as if they had lost their reason and control.

"Musketeers, prepare! Open fire as soon as they get within 200 meters! Grenadiers, get ready too, don't let them get within 50 meters!"

Link quickly issued the orders. He knew that the upcoming battle would be even more difficult and dangerous, and they had to be fully prepared.

"Clap clap clap." The Naga stared intently at Link in the distance. With a flick of her sword, the berserk murlocs charged forward like madmen.

They move incredibly fast, as if they want to tear everything to shreds.

Link naturally understood and could see that this skill was similar to the magic of human mages; in his previous life's game, it would be a group-wide buff skill.

Under the influence of the Naga's song, these murlocs have completely lost their reason and control, and their attacks have become more powerful and ferocious.

"Fire!" Link shouted.

Instantly, the musketeers pulled their triggers, and bullets rained down on the berserk mermen.

However, these fishmen seemed to feel no pain or fear; they continued their frenzied charge, trying to break through the enemy's defenses.

Bang bang bang bang!

Gunshots rang out one after another, echoing throughout the entire battlefield.

These red fish-men seemed to have undergone some kind of strange transformation in an instant. Their figures became more agile, and their speed was much faster than before. Like arrows released from a bow, they rushed out dozens of meters in an instant.

Their eyes gleamed with a bloodthirsty light, and they roared as if they wanted to tear everything in their path to shreds.

On the battlefield, dozens of merfolk corpses lay scattered on the ground, their blood splattered across the land.

However, this did not stop the other murlocs from charging forward.

They had closed to within fifty meters, practically touching the heavily armored shieldmen's defensive line.

If there are no other interferences, in less than a minute these frenzied murlocs will surge towards the defensive line like a tide, bringing devastating blows to the heavily armored shieldmen.

Link stood at the front of the group, gripping his sword tightly, his eyes firm and resolute.

He knew that the situation left no room for hesitation. He raised his sword high and shouted, "Grenadier squad, keep your eyes peeled and get ready to throw the explosives! Musketeers, after you finish your volley, slowly retreat, firing as you go! We must suppress these merfolk's offensive with firepower!"

Link's voice echoed across the battlefield; his orders were as firm and unquestionable as military commands.

The soldiers responded enthusiastically. The grenade throwers quickly prepared their explosive charges, while the musketeers adjusted their firing angles and postures, ready for the impending battle.

Then, Link quickly issued a series of orders, his voice firm and powerful, as if it could penetrate the smoke of the battlefield and reach the depths of every soldier's heart.

He knew that the key to this battle lay in the proper command and the bravery of the soldiers.

"Dilva, Fiorena, and Claudia, you will take over command of the troops from the rear to ensure the stability of the front. Claudia, I'm leaving the overall command here to you. I'll go to the front and try to capture the leader first. I'll see if I can get a chance to kill that Naga sea monster."

As Link spoke, he urged the horses through the procession.

Upon hearing this, Fiona stepped forward and grabbed the reins of Link's horse, saying worriedly, "Lord Link, isn't this too dangerous? You are our pillar of strength; what if something happens to you..."

Link interrupted Fiona, patted her on the shoulder, and laughed, "My strength is not weak; these fishmen can't hurt me. Follow orders! We must trust our soldiers and trust our strength."

Fiona glanced hesitantly at Link, her eyes filled with worry and reluctance.

However, she also knew that Link's decision was not something that could be easily changed.

“Believe me, this is a battlefield. I’m not just your Lord Link, I’m a warrior too. Let go! I’ll be careful.” Link said, gently pushing Fiona’s hand away.

Fiorena gritted her teeth and released her grip on the reins.

She looked at Link with deep affection and said, "My lord, please be careful. If things get really bad, we can... we can retreat. We, and the entire North, cannot do without you."

Link smiled and shook his head: "I want to mold the North into an excellent city-state that is courageous, invincible, and inclusive of all ambitious individuals. Therefore, in the dictionary of us Northern warriors, there is no reason to retreat unless the enemy is invincible!"

After saying that, Link rode his horse slowly to the front of the group.

He held his greatsword level, its blade pointing directly at the arrogant Naga siren: "The North! Winterfell! Invincible!"

Boom boom boom boom!

Boom boom boom!

Gunshots and explosions once again echoed through the sky!

The bombardment squad threw explosives at the dense cluster of murlocs, while the musketeer squad fired continuously at the charging murlocs.

The battlefield was filled with smoke and flames, and a fierce battle was raging.

141. Outsiders?

"Old City Lord, those sea monsters are currently attacking the soldiers relentlessly, and the battle is extremely fierce. Should we take this opportunity to organize the warriors to launch a surprise attack from behind and, together with the reinforcements that are coming to support us, eliminate these rampaging sea monsters? This is truly a rare and excellent opportunity!"

Kuokas stared intently at the situation on the battlefield, her eyes flashing with determination and anticipation. She turned to the old city lord, her tone filled with urgency.

Upon hearing this, the old city lord gazed intently at the soldiers around him and behind him.

Some of these soldiers were veterans who had experienced several battles, but most were new recruits who were fresh out of school. At this moment, without exception, they all had some kind of injury.

Some were wrapped in bandages, and some were still wet with blood.

The old city lord took a deep breath, a shadow of inner struggle and pain crossing his face, but he still shook his head, his voice low and firm: "No, we have already suffered heavy losses. We cannot send more soldiers to risk their lives. We must leave some foundation for Hailin City. For future reconstruction and defense, we cannot exhaust all our strength. Besides, look at those sea monsters, there are still several hundred of them. Their power is still formidable. If we attack rashly, it will only increase casualties."

Upon hearing this, Kuokas felt a pang of anxiety. She understood the old city lord's concerns, but her own anxiety was hard to quell.

Her gaze returned to the battlefield, where reinforcements and sirens were locked in a fierce battle.

"But what if... what if we miss this opportunity and let those sea monsters continue to wreak havoc? Wouldn't Hailin City be in even greater danger?"

Kuokas's heart told her that at times like these, she should wield her sword, step forward, and help her comrades who were fighting.

Now is the perfect time, especially since these people are reinforcements who have come from afar to help them.

The feeling of powerlessness—being left standing there, watching helplessly as fellow human reinforcements fought a desperate battle with the enemy while he could only stand there doing nothing—was driving Kuokas almost insane.

The old city lord saw Kuokas's anxiety and resentment. He sighed and said earnestly, "Kuokas, I know this is wrong, and I also wish I could rush out and fight those sea monsters to the death. But look at the current situation of our Sea City. These remaining warriors are all wounded; they have already sacrificed too much for this city. Can you bear to send them to their deaths again? Let the reinforcements fight the sea monsters first. After a while, when the sea monsters' strength is depleted, we can seize the opportunity to strike. This way, our chances of victory will be much greater."

The old city lord's words were filled with helplessness and determination. He knew that his actions might be shameless and cruel, but from the perspective of a city lord, he had to do it.

He had to consider the future of Hailin City and take responsibility for the lives of these soldiers.

He looked at the soldiers covered in blood, many of them wounded or injured, and then at the soldier next to him who was still fighting despite having lost an arm. Their eyes were filled with determination and fearlessness, but also with longing and concern for their families.

They also have families waiting for them to return alive, parents hoping for their return, and wives and children waiting for news of them.
