Infinite Hunter
Page 119
This time, the world changed and tens of millions of people disappeared in the country, which is enough to be considered a serious blow.
Fortunately, at least there are only more than 200 million Americans with documented cases now, and the world's population has decreased by a quarter, which is more serious than the world war.
There is not much danger around the high-speed rail. Those mutant creatures are quite intelligent and will not attack the high-speed rail lines. They just occupy the mountains and rule the land.
"It's starting up again so soon?" It's only been a few days... Well, Cheng Yijiu's parents' seventh day of mourning has passed, so the quests are appearing quite normal. "Finally, relatively normal work." Cheng Yijiu read the instructions. "Killing wild boars? They're so man-eating, this boar is really outrageous." Is this a mutant boar? Domesticated pigs released into the wild do indeed have large offspring.
What the American people call "Pig Sla" is just a large mixed-breed wild boar.
Cheng Yijiu didn't particularly care. This mission was set in the 21st century, so he didn't need a disguise. His weapons were simple: an M70 rifle, and at most a 1911A1 pistol with an extended barrel, for good measure. A hunting knife would complete his outfit. As for clothing? Just a hunting outfit—a camouflaged M65 military jacket, camouflage work pants, combat boots, and a backpack.
Cheng Yijiu also brought field gloves and a combat vest. As for miscellaneous items, he only brought a lighter and a multi-purpose first aid kit. The bullets were, as usual, old-fashioned cowhide magazines, hanging on his belt. This was his personal habit, and he did the same for all modern hunting trips. He wore a boonie hat on his head. Cheng Yijiu took a final check and said, "Very good, I have all the field equipment including the water bottle - to prove that I am a hunter and not some damn soldier."
Putting the rifle on his back, Cheng Yijiu pushed open the door.
Before him lay a typical forest-hill-grassland landscape, with Cheng Yijiu standing next to an SUV. "That's not right! I've looked left and right, and this doesn't look like something made by Americans or Europeans... Sure enough, I found it. Made in China." The SUV was compact and sleek, lacking even doors. It was simply a welded steel tubing with a bed. It must have been incredibly light, but Cheng Yijiu noticed the engine was rated at 85 horsepower.
"I remember seeing this model. Isn't it the Shandong cat? I can actually buy it in the US."
As an agricultural vehicle, this thing's off-road capabilities were truly impressive. Cheng Yijiu didn't think about anything else and just drove off—the fuel tank was located beneath the driver's seat, and it held a decent capacity. Man-eating wild boars... Based on Cheng Yijiu's experience, there were wild boars that ate dead bodies, but there were probably no wild boars that preyed on humans. This was because these creatures primarily subsisted on fruits, roots, and rhizomes of plants. The meat they ate was often carcasses, small mammals, or insects.
A wild boar that deliberately eats people? If it really attacked a human, a fully grown male wild boar would be more than capable of killing one. This creature weighed at least 150 kilograms. A single charge and bite would cause immediate serious injury. "But you've assigned me to this mission. This wild boar must be something special!" Cheng Yijiu had dealt with many wild boars before. The most formidable was undoubtedly the mythical wild boar, and he had killed many in real life as well. Now, just driving around should be enough to trigger the mission.
As the car drove along the mountain, Cheng Yijiu stopped occasionally to observe through a telescope. "Surprisingly rare, I haven't seen any decent animals. Wait, is this a house?" Through the telescope, he saw a large house. Judging by the board, it looked very much like a farm building—either a warehouse or a stable. "Yeah, there's a tower-shaped storage shed next to it, so it's definitely a farm." And it was most likely an American-style farm, so this place was most likely in the United States.
Sure enough, he saw a herd of wild boars destroying the farmland—the neatly arranged fields must have been farmland. He had no idea what was being grown there, but there were over twenty wild boars. "It's a North American herd of wild boars, large and numerous." Cheng Yijiu was about three hundred meters away from the herd, at a relatively high altitude. He used a telescope to carefully identify the pigs eating. "Typical wild boars, mostly sows with piglets, and a few sub-adults. Only two boars? Surprisingly few."
These wild boars were similar to those he had seen in the past. The average sow weighed about 120 kilograms, the sub-adults 100 kilograms, and the two boars weighed about 150 kilograms. "To say that wild boars like these are my targets is a bit too easy." Cheng Yijiu parked the car, grabbed the rifle from the passenger seat, and placed it directly on the steel bar on the hood, taking aim with the white light mirror.
At a distance of 300 meters, he still had to consider the downwind slightly. Cheng Yijiu adjusted the aiming distance, lassoed a boar with long mane, and pulled the trigger.
Chapter Four
The Winchester Magnum rounds were incredibly powerful, and a distance of three hundred meters wouldn't diminish their impact. Just as Cheng Yijiu had hoped, the bullet struck the boar's side, piercing its heart, lungs, and other organs from above. The boar was surprisingly able to run. Unfortunately, it didn't make it more than fifty meters before collapsing headfirst to the ground, its limbs twitching. By then, Cheng Yijiu had already pulled the bolt and loaded the rifle, with the second boar already in sight.
This time, they were shooting at a moving target, so a little lead time was needed. Cheng Yijiu paused for breath and pulled the trigger. The bullet flew over 300 meters and accurately struck the wild boar's neck, severing its throat and aorta. The wild boar, bleeding profusely, collapsed to the ground while running. The sow didn't catch Cheng Yijiu's attention, and the gunshot didn't attract the ranch owner's attention.
"I knew it wouldn't be so easy to end." Cheng Yijiu complained. He didn't continue shooting wild boars. The two boars he killed showed no sign of the mission being over.
He got in the car, put the safety on his rifle, put it on the passenger seat, started the truck and drove towards the farm. "This is really America." Cheng Yijiu walked around the warehouse and saw a one-story house that should be a residence. It was a typical American wooden house, but no one came out even after he drove up to the door and honked the horn. Is this farmer really too careless? "What about the Castle Law? Normal rednecks would have been out with their guns by now."
Cheng Yijiu drove around the front and saw a huge hole at the back of the house, as exaggerated as if a truck had crashed into the wall. The inside was a mess with broken wooden wall fragments and furniture fragments, and there were clearly visible footprints on the floor outside and inside the hole. Cheng Yijiu got out of the car and half-knelt at the footprints, speechless - "That makes sense! Oh damn!"
In the dirt were wild boar hoofprints, large ones. From what Cheng Yijiu could tell, they weren't much smaller than those of an Asian elephant, but rather the size of a large hippopotamus. The hole they'd made was almost half the wall, so the wild boar must have been larger than a Entelodon, perhaps weighing a ton. "That's unscientific. Wild boars can't possibly grow that large, unless someone's trying to stir up trouble again." Domestic pigs can indeed grow quite heavy, but even deliberately bred pigs wouldn't reach that size.
It must be the Americans again, either polluting or messing around with biotechnology. Cheng Yijiu had no idea how they'd managed to create such a massive boar. It looked like the farmer had been victimized by the boar. A wild boar that size wouldn't destroy the feed silo, but would instead break through the house and eat people? It was a bit exaggerated.
Cheng Yijiu searched carefully, opened the refrigerator, and pulled out ice cream, butter, and jam. He then found a stack of bread slices and prepared to eat. Of course, the juice was still within its expiration date. The farmer had been robbed—the bloodstains on the ground proved it, but the fate of his family was unclear. Cheng Yijiu ate and drank his fill, keeping his gun close at hand. Who knew the wild boar would get hungry and come back? Judging by the color of the bloodstains, it must have been at least six or seven hours.
Cheng Yijiu also stole some chocolate and butter cookies from the refrigerator and filled the kettle with bucketed water. Then, he grabbed his bag and headed out. It was still early, and he hoped to find some trace of the monster. Otherwise, he'd probably have to risk spending the night in this shabby house. He wouldn't choose this house; he'd choose to sleep in the intact warehouse.
Not long after Cheng Yijiu drove off, a pickup truck drove up from the road outside and stopped at the door of the house. Three women and two men got out of the car. The two women were accompanied by a little girl, and the men were all adults. They were probably relatives of the farmer. Naturally, they opened the door and went in. Of course, after that, there were shouts of "Oh my God!", "God!", "Call the police!"
Cheng Yijiu followed the hoof prints on the ground, but unfortunately lost his way on the rocky ground—there was gravel everywhere, the river's mudflats. So Cheng Yijiu turned around and drove back. It was getting dark, so he decided to find a place to sleep.
This time he pretended to be a hunter, drove in a circle and came from the direction of the highway - you have to be careful in what you do and don't be careless.
Cheng Yijiu breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the pickup truck. "Sure enough, I made a wise choice." He honked the horn, and everyone inside ran out. "Hello, is this farm yours? I'm here to hunt." Cheng Yijiu, as an Asian, naturally made the four grown men and women who saw him feel relieved. One woman replied with a slightly stiff "hello," and Cheng Yijiu said casually, "Judging from your moods, you don't seem very happy."
At this time, a police car also arrived, and the local sheriff came with two people in one car.
There were also two sheriffs, one male and one female.
Upon their arrival, they first asked what had happened and who had called the police, then proceeded to investigate the scene. Of course, the female sheriff, Linda, noticed Cheng Yijiu—dressed like a hunter, leaning against a rare, lightweight, doorless agricultural off-road vehicle, and being Asian, he certainly stood out. "Sir, are you one of them?" the middle-aged policewoman asked.
As for Cheng Yijiu's weapons, since he was Asian, the other party wasn't particularly wary, and they were visible to the naked eye—he didn't carry a rifle, and his pistol was holstered on the outside of his thigh, not in a chest holster, because that would make him look more like a soldier than a hunter. "I'm here hunting. I heard there's an infestation of wild boar here, so I came here to pay the farmers to allow me to hunt on their land."
Cheng Yijiu then pulled out his driver's license and gun license—they were in the tool box, and they were the "fake licenses" for the cabin. He then claimed he knew nothing about the police call and that he had come to ask the local farmer if he could hunt wild boar there. Cheng Yijiu was confident the two local sheriffs wouldn't be able to detect that he had previously been inside and eaten and taken some food.
After asking, the female sheriff gestured for Cheng Yijiu to do as he pleased. She turned and walked into the house. At the door, the five people looked at each other, facing Cheng Yijiu alone. The atmosphere was a bit awkward. Cheng Yijiu laughed, but in return, the other party looked unhappy. "It seems there is nothing for me to do here, hahaha. Is there any store nearby? I think I need a tent and a sleeping bag."
chapter Five
They pointed him in a direction and said, "Drive along the road and you'll see a store where you can buy tents and sleeping bags." Cheng Yijiu thanked them, but the blonde girl added, "There's a motel over there too. You can stay there." Cheng Yijiu smiled even more and said, "Thank you very much." If the wild boar king went crazy, it would be impossible to be safe within a radius of hundreds of square kilometers...
Cheng Yijiu decisively drove away. If he stayed any longer, he'd become a police suspect. He knew it was a wild boar, but the police and the visitors wouldn't necessarily believe it. Isn't that how it's played out in the movies? Driving along the dirt road, Cheng Yijiu turned on the headlights as night fell.
A strong wind blew past, and a large black shadow whizzed past. "What the hell? What the hell was that?" Cheng Yijiu's dynamic vision was clear—it must be a wild boar, a wild boar the size of a hippopotamus. Due to its size, it was taller at the shoulder than a hippopotamus, but slightly shorter in length. It ran like the wind, but even though it was so close, Cheng Yijiu still saw it clearly.
Should we get out of the car and chase it? That would be stupid. Humans can't catch up with wild boars by running. It's better to drive to chase them. But Cheng Yijiu looked at the night sky, thought for a while, and then drove along the road. "I'll deal with you when it's daybreak."
He continued driving, but this time, Cheng Yijiu kept his left hand on the steering wheel while his right hand firmly grasped the rifle, ready to fire at any moment. He didn't know if the wild boar would circle back and ram his car again, killing him. But at least it didn't happen now, because Cheng Yijiu didn't hear any sound. In this situation, sound was far more reliable than sight.
Even after he reached a brightly lit area, seeing the houses and traffic lights, the wild boar didn't turn back to attack him. Cheng Yijiu saw the motel sign—he'd always had a bad impression of motels, finding them unsanitary. But there was nothing he could do now but stay here for the night—hopefully the owner would wash the sheets promptly, and pray there weren't any bedbugs lurking in the cracks of the beds.
Motels across the United States are similar: low prices, no questions asked, and ID registration virtually nonexistent. Cheng Yijiu paid in cash and requested the cleanest room. The owner handed him a card. "Room 114 over there, just cleaned and renovated." Cheng Yijiu looked at the owner. "Don't worry, no one's dead. The roof collapsed and they're rebuilding," the owner explained.
The room was quite nice, with a large bed and new sheets and bedding. There was even an LCD TV, though it looked old and small. Cheng Yijiu turned on the TV. The only free channel was the local news channel, and he listened to the news while he showered. Sure enough, he heard what he wanted to hear on the news. "A missing person case? They actually filed a case under the pretext of forced disappearance by an unknown person. It's really disgusting."
Lying in bed, Cheng Yijiu quickly fell asleep. He thought, "I hope the wild boars won't come and attack me." These animals shouldn't break into the town. Even if they did, they wouldn't come to the room where Cheng Yijiu was.
After a night of peace, Cheng Yijiu drove off. He went to buy a sleeping bag and a tent—he planned to set up the tent in the truck bed, which could accommodate three people side by side. After filling up the tank, Cheng Yijiu drove back to the place where he had spotted the wild boar. He got out of the car and observed the ground carefully. "How could a boar weighing more than a ton leave hoof prints?"
He did find them, even finding hair hanging from bushes and branches. Cheng Yijiu drove, stopping and starting, following the hoof prints through the forest. After tracking for a distance, Cheng Yijiu no longer needed to observe the hoof prints. He combined the broken plants with his own thinking, and naturally found the right path.
Tracking was indeed relatively simple. The wild boar didn't circle, but ran straight through the forest, all the way to the grassland outside, then turned a sharp corner and disappeared. Over there was a dry river valley, full of rocks of all sizes, making it difficult to determine the direction the wild boar had disappeared. "It's very close, probably within a few kilometers." Cheng Yijiu could sense that element in the air—he had experienced a similar feeling with almost all man-eating beasts.
It was probably the human sixth sense, the sixth sense that a dangerous beast was nearby. Cheng Yijiu's was probably a step further, his sixth sense belonging to wild animals—his hunting target was nearby, and he would soon catch the prey by the tail.
Cheng Yijiu found a quiet spot to park the car, then began searching on foot, backpack on his back, rifle in hand. He had no particular direction, but rather walked at his own whim, like a beast patrolling its territory in search of food.
Not far away, the group Cheng Yijiu had met earlier were camping in a low, rolling field. A new person arrived, an older man, presumably a relative of one of them. While camping, one man said he needed to use the restroom and ran into the woods to relieve himself. The others sat on mats, chatting, many discussing yesterday's events.
"What the hell is going on? Did someone crash a car into the back wall of his house and take Bill away?" Just as the conversation was getting to this point, a sharp scream suddenly came from the woods. "Hey, Dennis! What happened?" the remaining three men shouted, but there was no answer, so the old man and the young man who came later stood up and walked over cautiously to see.
They skirted the brush and then froze in their tracks. About ten meters ahead stood a red-eyed monster. It was essentially a wild boar the size of a hippopotamus, its tusks protruding from its jaws a foot long. Its maw was chewing on the unfortunate Dennis, who had screamed before. Dennis's arm was in the boar's mouth, but he lay at its feet, presumably dead—one of his legs had been detached from his body.
His body was covered in blood, and it was impossible to tell how many times he had been bitten, but he looked dead.
The two people also reacted - after the wild boar snorted loudly, they woke up as if from a dream, and turned around and ran away while screaming.
Cheng Yijiu also heard the faint screams coming from afar. He quickly quickened his pace, drifting through the forest like a ghost...
Chapter Six
The giant boar, which had been enthusiastically devouring the unfortunate Dennis, stopped chewing. Its eyes, tiny in proportion but actually the size of tennis balls, glared at the old man and young man fleeing in a corner. It let out a loud grunt and accelerated its charge. The two men fled howling, while the young man, quick-witted and decisive, shoved the old man...
The old man's eyes widened to their maximum size, completely stunned, but he stumbled and fell, getting caught in the middle by the wild boar. He screamed in agony. The women over there also ran over, but they didn't see the man being pushed. They only saw the giant wild boar grabbing him and tossing him around. They screamed in vain and then turned and ran away.
Cheng Yijiu rushed through the forest, over a slope as gentle as a pizza, and saw the pig in the distance. Cheng Yijiu raised the binoculars hanging from his chest and said, "Wow! This thing is definitely related to pollution or some biochemical experiment!" The giant wild boar he saw through the binoculars was about 1.5 meters tall at the shoulder and larger than a hippopotamus, but not as thick and sturdy as a hippopotamus. It probably weighed only a little over a ton.
A closer look revealed bony growths on the giant boar's face—covering part of its nose and forehead, and even its cheeks, which were covered in grayish-white bony plates. This couldn't be a normal hybrid wild boar. No matter how it was hybridized, a wild boar wouldn't grow so large and develop bizarre bony plates on its face. Actively attacking humans was also unnatural. This behavior was unrelated—in any case, Cheng Yijiu simply wanted to shoot this giant wild boar.
He felt the wind direction and said, "Very good, not enough to interfere." He raised his gun and took aim. The straight-line distance was now about four hundred meters. Adjusting the eyepiece distance, Cheng Yijiu aimed the bullet at the wild boar's thigh. Unfortunately, it was a little difficult to hit it with its butt facing him, but he had to hurry or it would run away, so he first destroyed its mobility.
As for the particularly large wild boar, Cheng Yijiu didn't take it seriously. He'd taken down many beasts far more formidable than this one. A mere wild boar was nothing—not to mention it wasn't even big enough. He held his breath and pulled the trigger. The recoil caused Cheng Yijiu's upper body to jerk back slightly. The bullet flew across the 400-meter distance in an instant, and at that distance, the Magnum bullet still had plenty of lethality.
As long as it remained mortal, as long as the world adhered to classical physics and normal biology, no carbon-based mammal could withstand the force of a Winchester Magnum bullet—within effective killing range. The bullet had accurately struck the boar's hip joint, with minimal error—such was the advantage of a heavy barrel and expensive, handmade bullets.
While a larger caliber and more powerful charge are possible, Cheng Yijiu personally prefers the .30 Winchester Magnum and the M70 rifle, which are more than adequate for dealing with such a massive boar. Because the bullet uses a fully metal-jacketed bullet, it won't explode. The bullet penetrated the boar's thick skin and muscle, striking the hip bone directly. The extent of the injury is unclear, but the leg is undoubtedly crippled.
Cheng Yijiu was now unhurried. While pulling the bolt and loading the gun, he walked towards the wild boar. The boar had probably not seen him yet, and the wind wasn't blowing in its favor, so the monster just let out a high-pitched piggy cry and spun around, trampling the corpse on the ground into a mess. "Those two people are really unlucky," Cheng Yijiu sighed.
To suddenly encounter such a large carnivorous wild boar was truly unfortunate, and most people wouldn't have been able to escape. Cheng Yijiu wasn't blessed with extraordinary stamina and reflexes, so he figured if he were to encounter one up close, he'd probably only be able to find an opening by rolling and leaping, or at least fire a shot.
The consequence of this circling method was that the wild boar's wounds were torn open by itself, and blood had already dyed half of the hair on its hind legs red. The monster finally discovered Cheng Yijiu, who was already over 200 meters away when the wind changed direction. The wild boar snorted and howled at Cheng Yijiu, and of course, its saliva turned into white foam, as if it was about to charge him. With three legs, in addition to being able to stand firm, it could also charge with gritted teeth.
Cheng Yijiu, on the other hand, raised his rifle and took aim calmly. This time, he aimed at the boar's trunk—not the skull—because the bullet would likely be deflected by the dual defenses of the bone armor and the skull. After all, the angle of the pig's skull was too low to hit it at a perfect 90 degrees. Any smaller angle would have likely deflected it.
He shot before the guy faced Cheng Yijiu directly - if he faced him directly, the head would block the vital parts of the torso, which would make it difficult to deal with.
A shot hit the wild boar's shoulder blade, but unfortunately the angle of entry was too small, so the bullet probably didn't penetrate the boar's internal organs. The boar turned around and paused for a moment before reversing. This guy seems to have a pretty good brain. As a result, Cheng Yijiu's shot only penetrated part of the wild boar's muscles and outer skin, creating a long penetrating wound on the surface of the body - painful and bleeding, but not life-threatening.
Cheng Yijiu simply stood still, reloaded his rifle, and this time aimed at the charging wild boar's skull. He wasn't aiming for the forehead, but rather the mouth and nose below. The wild boar was massive, its mouth roughly at the level of a human's chest. At this height, if Cheng Yijiu fired, it was possible to penetrate the entire mouth and shred the organs in the throat.
This was only the third shot, and Cheng Yijiu felt he had more than enough. Sure enough, the third bullet struck the wild boar just above its nostril, perhaps deflecting its trajectory and exiting behind its jaw, causing serious damage. Cheng Yijiu, unconcerned with the outcome, quickly drew the bolt and chambered the rifle, this time aiming for the line between the wild boar's eyes—right between its brows. The wild boar's pace remained steady, even after being shot.
That's what a mad boar does.
The fourth bullet missed slightly, a little further to the left and up, but still lodged itself in the creature's skull. The bullet probably didn't ricochet, as Cheng Yijiu's dynamic vision didn't see the rapidly departing bullet. He loaded the last round, and the boar was now less than twenty meters away. "It's surprisingly fast, dragging a leg. What a shame. But this mission is pretty easy." He fired the fifth round.
This shot was also aimed at the head. After firing this shot, Cheng Yijiu was about to draw out his pistol to fight.
Chapter VII
From this distance, it was clear—the bullet didn't ricochet, but struck directly against one of the boar's brow bones. A cloud of blood erupted above the wild boar's right brow, and its charging movements became noticeably sluggish. Cheng Yijiu moved swiftly, leaping and rolling with his gun in hand. The boar also charged in a straight line without adjusting, rushing past Cheng Yijiu's original position before stumbling to the ground, leaving a ditch.
Cheng Yijiu stood up from the ground. The first thing he did was to take out the five bullets from the clips in the leather box at his waist and push them into the magazine. He approached the wild boar from the side and said, "Half of the pig's head is covered in blood. The two bullets have shattered half of the bone armor outside the head." Cheng Yijiu did not get too close. He looked at it from a distance of two or three meters. The wild boar was basically dead and it was probably not pretending to be dead.
After all, two bullets had penetrated the skull. Cheng Yijiu fired another shot at the wild boar's heart from three meters away, but when he saw no blood coming out, he knew it was truly dead. The wild boar lying on the ground was more than half a man's height, emitting an astonishing stench—"More like a carnivore," Cheng Yijiu muttered. By then, the fleeing men had already sped away in their cars, not even turning back to watch Cheng Yijiu kill the wild boar.
Cheng Yijiu used his hunting knife to poke at the bone armor on the boar's head. "It's not bad, it doesn't look like bone. Instead, it looks like some kind of specialized hair. Is it a keratin mutation, like a pangolin?" He was quite happy. It proved that any carbon-based creature could not withstand a high-speed metal bullet. Cheng Yijiu estimated the boar's tusk and pried it out with a knife. "Wow, including the root, it's almost half a meter long!"
It was a successful kill, and Cheng Yijiu faced no danger—it would have been dangerous without a gun, but with one, he was just a lump of protein—and given the creature's size, a sneak attack was practically impossible. It was a wild boar, after all, not a cat with paw pads for ambushes, nor a bear. A wild boar was a wild boar, and even a ferocious frontal attack would have been enough. Cheng Yijiu could confidently kill it even with a bow, as long as he kept his distance.
Cheng Yijiu kicked the dead pig to the ground and cut open its mouth with a hunting knife. "Wow, the structure of the entire tooth reminds me of a hippopotamus skull - these long canine teeth... It is indeed a very ferocious monster. In terms of the power of its mouth, a tiger is probably not as powerful as it." This thing is comparable to a Entelodon, and the Entelodon is probably not as powerful as this giant wild boar.
Cheng Yijiu put on his gun and picked up his cell phone, but found that there was no signal in this damn place as usual. He could only drive to call the police - as a good citizen, he always had to help.
Cheng Yijiu walked back slowly but didn't find the door. He knew that the matter was not over yet. "I knew it would probably be two more wild boars like this, or even more. Damn it!"
The journey was quite safe, though the woods were very quiet. Cheng Yijiu figured it was probably because another large creature had recently passed by. He got in the car and drove back to where the dead pig was. After taking a few pictures with his phone, he followed the human footprints—he wouldn't deal with the dead, so he'd leave it all to the police. "Two unlucky bastards," he muttered.
"What a panic!" Following the footprints, Cheng Yijiu saw traces of people tumbling and crawling. The camping blanket and other belongings hadn't been collected at all, but were simply thrown on the grass in a mess. He even saw a woman's shoe. As the car continued forward, Cheng Yijiu discovered tire tracks.
"I remember they were driving an off-road vehicle? A Toyota or something?" Cheng Yijiu tried to recall, but to no avail - he didn't know much about cars, but fortunately he remembered that it was a fairly large off-road vehicle, and five or six people could squeeze in without any problem.
Judging by the tire tracks, the start was so abrupt that the grass was blown away. The tracks were quite deep and jerky. Then came the wild curves, with the driver swerving the steering wheel wildly, clearly in a state of panic.
Driving further, Cheng Yijiu spotted an overturned SUV on the side of the road. Blood stained the door, and large dents etched the trunk and sides, the result of a powerful impact. "How could it have been hit by a wild boar?" It was already dark, and the forest path was difficult to see without a light. This didn't bother Cheng Yijiu much; he had the same low-light night vision as a big cat.
He got out of the car to check. There was a large amount of blood on the passenger seat. "At least one person died with this amount of bleeding. The passenger seat is indeed the most dangerous." Cheng Yijiu circled around with his rifle and found several footprints. It seemed the people had managed to escape. He had to almost lie down and scan with his hand before he finally found the hoof prints that belonged to a wild boar. He measured them and then checked the holes in the car door and trunk.
"Fuck, it's even bigger than the one we killed last time. Judging by the size of the hoof prints, it's at least a quarter bigger!" Cheng Yijiu cursed. It was nighttime, and facing a massive wild boar head-on wasn't a good idea. But the hunter still tracked it, and the falling darkness forced him to rely more on his sense of smell and hearing—though his vision was also quite good, as grayscale vision didn't affect his high-resolution human vision mode.
He smelled the stench gradually dissipating in the air. He had smelled this stench on the dead wild boar before - "It's much better than the swamp stink ape." Cheng Yijiu muttered. Not long after, the place was filled with this smell. Cheng Yijiu finally distinguished some other smells among them, "It's not that good." Following the smell and the results of observation, Cheng Yijiu found a wooden house.
The cabin in the woods was likely a local retreat or hunting lodge. Since it was relatively easy to walk to the road, Cheng Yijiu quickly reached the cabin. "There's electricity here?" He saw the lights coming from there, so he was curious. "That's right, these Americans are a little crazy. They all have their own diesel generators." Cheng Yijiu approached from the road and was naturally spotted by the people in the cabin under the lights.
He was holding a rifle, so the cabin door opened. The two women waved at him, "Come in! It's too dangerous outside!" They were quite enthusiastic. Cheng Yijiu came in. "Ah, it's you," the younger of the two women said. "Hey, you're not the rancher... I saw an overturned car on the road, and there was a lot of blood. Are you the only three women here?"
chapter eight
Following the women's instructions, Cheng Yijiu walked into the cabin with a gun. "I remember there should be at least two men here, right?" he said. "Excluding the two killed by wild boars, there should be at least two more." Cheng Yijiu gestured. "Besides, I just shot a huge wild boar over there. It actually ate people. That guy was almost as big as a hippopotamus. Such a huge wild boar is rare."
"There's another one," the young blonde said tremblingly. "I only just realized there was one. If what you said is true." As they exchanged words, the girl gradually calmed down—perhaps Cheng Yijiu's gun had given them confidence. "We were trying to escape, but we were hit by a monster boar and overturned..." The girl choked up at the last part of the sentence. It must have been the man in the passenger seat who had lost his life.
"Two wild boars? No wonder I saw the overturned car earlier. It turned out to be yours! I thought I'd already killed the culprit." Cheng Yijiu responded to the three women's words. He also knew that they were friends and the daughter of one of them. Louise, who was talking to him, was thirty years old, her daughter was nine, and her friend Diana was about the same age.
The man killed by the wild boar in the car was Louise's husband, and the driver, whose life or death is unknown, is Louise's brother. The two who died earlier were her father and their friend. "This wild boar is definitely not normal. How can a wild boar grow that big? Even a hybrid wild boar isn't that outrageous," Cheng Yijiu said, looking at the food prepared by the two adult women.
"Huh? There's still edible food here?" He was very curious. From the outside, the house looked abandoned for a while. How could there be edible food left in a place like this? But the smell was quite normal, a strong aroma of fat, not something rotten. He thought the stewed beans and meat were canned food. Americans were full of a group called doomsday survivors. These guys were either digging underground bunkers or hoarding canned goods.
Even though the house was abandoned, there were probably some cans left. Canned goods, as long as they weren't broken, had a very long shelf life. The light was actually a kerosene lamp, and the room was actually quite damp, but with the doors and windows closed and the fireplace lit, it was much more comfortable than the woods outside. The three women huddled together on the sofa, perhaps feeling a sense of security that relaxed them considerably. But after this relaxation, fatigue washed over them, and they felt drowsy.
It was only a short time into the night, but they had already fallen asleep by eight o'clock. Cheng Yijiu was dozing on the sofa, actually waiting for a possible attack. Around eleven o'clock, there was a knock on the door, and the three women were awakened. Cheng Yijiu opened the door with a pistol in hand. In came a man covered in blood, but not dead. Cheng Yijiu had seen him before. The three women, crying and laughing, pulled the man to the sofa and cleaned his wounds.
This was the younger brother. He'd barely escaped, having walked for a long time before finding this place. He was lucky the wild boar hadn't chased him. His wounds were mostly contusions and scrapes, but there were no fractures or penetrating wounds from the boar's tusks, otherwise he'd have been dead long ago.
Cheng Yijiu's bag contained alcohol, iodine, and self-sealing bandages, which he took out for the two women to clean the wounds. "Bear with it," Cheng Yijiu said nonchalantly. There was no clean water in this area, so they could only use alcohol to clean it directly—alcohol and cotton swabs, pouring it on to clean it, causing the strong man's face to sweat. Fortunately, the guy's wounds were all on his upper body, and the lower body was mainly on his thighs, so cleaning was relatively simple.
Afterwards, he applied iodine and bandaged the wound. Cheng Yijiu didn't bring any suture needles or thread because he didn't think he'd get that kind of injury. And if he did, he doubted he'd be able to sew it properly, having never learned how. The wounds on this guy's body resembled his mouth; normally, they should have been sutured. For now, he could only bandage them and wait until daybreak to drive him to the hospital for treatment.
The white men were exhausted and sweating profusely, yet they couldn't shower. Naturally, the stench filled the room. They themselves probably didn't notice, but Cheng Yijiu could smell it; it was nothing short of torture. "This body odor... damn! No better than a wild boar!" he thought, as the injured man, having lost considerable blood, fell drowsy after the alcohol's irritation wore off.
At this moment, there was a crashing sound against the wall, and the whole house shook. If the house hadn't been built with thick logs, it would have been knocked through if it were just planks. Several people screamed. "Stop it! Damn it!" Cheng Yijiu shouted, grabbing his rifle. "Use something to hold it up, or get ready to run. I'll go to the roof and take care of this."
The house was only one story high. Cheng Yijiu stabbed the wall with his dagger and began to climb. The roof of the house had already partially collapsed, and Cheng Yijiu wanted to climb out from there and shoot the wild boar a few times. He climbed very quickly, and before the people below could say anything, he had already removed some of the rusted wood from the roof with his hands and flipped over to the roof.
Cheng Yijiu didn't move standing up, but instead crawled on all fours, using a larger ground surface to distribute the pressure of his weight on the roof wood. Under the moonlight, he could definitely see the wild boar in the woods. "It's a bit far away, and in the shadows, so I can't see it clearly. I'll be able to see it clearly when it hits me." Cheng Yijiu had already readied his rifle, waiting for the guy to reveal himself.
Soon, the wild boar turned and appeared at the door. Cheng Yijiu could see it clearly from less than ten meters away. It was even larger than the previous wild boar, a bit taller than an average hippopotamus, with black mane and long tusks. Unlike the wild boar he had killed, it lacked a head armor. However, its head was proportionally larger, more similar to the head-to-body ratio of a real wild boar.
The wild boar before was more like a domestic pig, with a larger body and a relatively small head.
Cheng Yijiu aimed directly. He changed the scope to a red dot. After a quick adjustment, Cheng Yijiu fired. This time, he aimed directly at the head, right between the eyes.
