Infinite Hunter
Page 118
He'd be slicing meat with this hunting knife, but who knows how long it would take. It didn't have a core or anything like that, killing it with one stab. Considering this, the only options were fire or corrosive liquid. But where would he find corrosive liquid? So, fire was the only option. After burning it... I just hoped the director wouldn't be mad. He'd also bought mutant beast damage insurance—if such a thing existed.
"If there really was one, the insurance company would have gone bankrupt," Cheng Yijiu muttered as he began searching for something to start a fire. The thing in front of him didn't look like something that would catch fire if you threw a match at it, unless it was running on gasoline. The aquarium's electricity came from the central power source, but there should also be an emergency power source. Cheng Yijiu remembered that the building had a small annex that probably housed a diesel generator.
"They can build that kind of miraculous shield, and they even have a diesel generator..." Cheng Yijiu didn't know what was going on. Anyway, he had to go to the independent shed to find diesel - it definitely couldn't be placed in the aquarium, and it couldn't be placed together with the diesel generator set. It must be placed in an independent small shed, so that if it caught fire, only that part would burn.
So this is still a sunken area. Cheng Yijiu found it after taking some time to look at the engineering drawings. The problem is that he is now unable to split himself into two parts - that strange mutant beast will continue to absorb and proliferate if it is not fought, and no one knows what kind of changes will occur. This thing is also very good at entanglement. Cheng Yijiu is not afraid of its attack, but it is difficult to escape.
Diesel isn't gasoline, and you can't ignite it with a match. Cheng Yijiu had a shotgun, which could easily be loaded with dragon-breath rounds—and he happened to have one with him.
"Its attack power is weak, but its attack frequency is high. Its defense is just so-so, and its skin is incredibly thick and regenerates quickly. Damn, it relies entirely on its abnormal mental field to injure people." Cheng Yijiu was getting very annoyed and was ready to think of a solution. He saw the cables that provided power to the entire aquarium control system, as well as the water pump, aeration filter, and temperature control system.
"One-time deal..." Cheng Yijiu muttered, carefully gripping the hunting knife in his hand, trying not to let any skin touch the metal. Then he cut the cable with a single blow, grabbed the fixed part with his left hand, and threw it at the mutant beast...
Cheng Yijiu didn't bother to see what the result was. He turned and sprinted, ready to rush out and get the diesel. He ignited the fire from the outside and was done with it. This monster seemed to have some intelligence and was unwilling to move outside. If it could really move, then things would be much easier.
It was time to make this bastard go. Arcs of electricity flashed across the monster's body, causing its entire semi-liquid form to twitch continuously, the shock causing its movements to pause. Meanwhile, Cheng Yijiu had already kicked open the door and ran to the storage room. He blasted the lock off with a single shot, loaded a dragon-breath ammunition, and set it to standby. He then activated the electric forklift and began moving the diesel barrels.
Cheng Yijiu naturally wouldn't enter the hall and set it on fire. He would definitely start the fire from outside and let the diesel flow in. So he used a single shot from his competitor's pistol to shatter a few pieces of the top of the large glass oil barrel, which he unloaded at the door. Cheng Yijiu stabbed the barrel several times and then kicked it hard, causing it to roll into the hall.
The mutant beast had regained its mobility, but the current had stopped—perhaps a short circuit had occurred in the power distribution cabinet at the visitor center. A 200-liter drum of oil rolled, leaking a gurgling stream of oil, which spread across the ground and emitted a pungent diesel odor. It rolled right in front of the mutant beast, where it was crushed by its tentacles, spraying diesel all over the creature.
So Cheng Yijiu showed a sinister smile, raised the shotgun in his hand and aimed at the ground at the gate, "Eat this! Bastard!" and pulled the trigger.
The Dragon Breath Bullet was a bit more intimidating, firing a magnesium metal pellet similar to thermite, reaching temperatures exceeding 1,500 degrees Celsius. However, it wasn't very effective at igniting the human body. Furthermore, its power diminished significantly at distance. Therefore, Cheng Yijiu aimed at the ground a few meters away and fired. The superheated magnesium pellets, before completely burning out, came into contact with the diesel fuel, instantly igniting.
Flames shot up into the sky, bringing with them thick black smoke. "It's not burning completely?" Cheng Yijiu went to carry a second barrel of diesel, stabbed it a few times, and then kicked it into the fire. The flames began to burn fiercely, igniting the entire mutant beast. Cheng Yijiu moved to the side because strong air convection had begun at the door, and flames shot out from the large glass window at the top that he had broken.
Therefore, the air outside the gate was forcefully sucked in and supplied to the main hall, which became the combustion chamber. The temperature in the hall was likely close to 2,000 degrees Celsius, as the entire structure was softening and deforming. The aquarium was about to explode, and the seawater inside had begun to boil—because Cheng Yijiu had thrown all the remaining diesel into it.
Even he couldn't get close now; the heat was too intense. Explosions echoed through the hall, the aquarium completely exploding. Scalding water poured onto the flames, sending steam billowing. Cheng Yijiu struggled to observe the mutant—they were still essentially living creatures, and couldn't withstand such intense heat. Or rather, most mutants couldn't handle it, though a few, particularly strong and specialized ones, could handle it with no problem.
After all, some mutant beasts become living flames after mutation.
Before the flames reached their current size, the mutant beast had already shrunk to a faint black remnant in the flames—most likely the coral reef it had devoured. Cheng Yijiu watched the steam erupt and retreated a few dozen meters. The steam carried away a large amount of heat, and the flames seemed to be extinguishing.
The mutant beasts should not be able to survive. Even if they are still alive, they should have been cooked by the steam or suffocated.
chapter Ten
The aquarium was reduced to ruins, and all they received was an angry call from Mai Changqing, "Ahhh! Big brother! Why are you like this?! What should we do now?! We're done!"
"Oh, I hope the director's insurance is successful." Cheng Yijiu said completely irresponsibly, "Almost all the things in the aquarium have mutated, and they can even merge. We have to burn them. Anyway, I don't know what will happen after dawn, and I don't think you want to drag it on until dawn." The other side was speechless. Indeed, Mai Changqing didn't know for what reason he couldn't drag it on until dawn.
So, does this situation seem acceptable now? I just don't know if the headmaster will accept it.
After all, the aquarium suffered losses of hundreds of millions.
Cheng Yijiu ignored him, hung up the phone, and drove back to the tourist center.
"Well, demons are dancing wildly." He really saw something he had never seen before.
Two elephants in the hall were waving their trunks. "I thought mutant beasts couldn't get to this place. Now I understand why the security lounge and security room are both in the basement. And the stairs have blast-proof doors. It turns out mutant beasts can't get through the blast-proof doors and elevators to the basement."
But there weren't just two elephants; a giraffe was also present. Its mouth and neck were split, transforming into a long, slender mouth filled with sharp teeth. Its four legs seemed useless, replaced by long, segmented limbs that appeared to be ribs. This mutation was too dramatic. The mutant spirit field generated by these mutant beasts together was powerful enough to quickly kill an ordinary person.
But even so, there are still "people" standing in the middle of the spiritual field, and there are even more than one.
"Mutated humans?" Cheng Yijiu looked at the six people in front of him. He didn't recognize any of them, but their clothes indicated they were park staff. Soon, a mental force field stronger than that of mutated animals appeared, and the six people turned into six different monsters, all of whom were disgusting.
Cheng Yijiu wiped his forehead and said, "What do you call this? I finally understand why we don't mention mutated humans. First of all, they are too ugly. Secondly, they are more dangerous than any wild beasts. Finally, the strength of their mental force field... wow, this is really exaggerated. If it were an ordinary person, he would die or mutate soon." After humans mutate, the strength of their mental field is not comparable to that of wild beasts. Even the mutated species are not as dangerous as wild beasts.
With a single leap, Cheng Yijiu dodged flames and ice, lightning and wind blades, and, most terrifyingly, the psychic piercings that almost took on a visible form. "No wonder!" he cursed, raising his hand and firing. The shotgun's shotgun shells accurately struck a two-headed mutant, but several of the lead bullets stopped dead in their tracks as they rippled through the psychic shield in front of the mutant—their kinetic energy sapped.
Cheng Yijiu quickly unsheathed his competitor and fired a single shot. The bullet pierced the opponent's mental shield, taking his head with it. The mental shockwave suddenly grew an order of magnitude larger. Even Cheng Yijiu felt dizzy. He couldn't handle it alone. Mutated humans could even control mutant beasts, so he had to retreat.
Cheng Yijiu, running out of the visitor center, saw spirals of unidentified matter emanating from the center. "Okay, I'm starting to stop wondering." He watched as a wolf appeared from nowhere, its front half opening like a flower bud, revealing sharp, barbed teeth and a central, grinding mouth. Cheng Yijiu glanced at the sky, indicating he was used to it.
So he aimed directly at the center of the mouth and pulled the trigger.
A single single-shot bullet nearly dispatched the mutant. But then a tiger appeared from behind. Several pairs of its ribs had transformed into massive, wing-like structures, complete with joints. Its head was also distorted, resembling a cartoon monster. Its mouth took up almost the entire width of its skull, opening an exaggerated 180-degree angle. A bear also appeared, reduced to a massive head and mouth, its body shrunken down to a dangling organ.
This thing, using its deformed ears as two legs to move, is a truly eye-catching mutant. The problem is, with a head the size of a small car compartment and a mouth that can open 120 degrees, it's definitely not a good thing. "Has the entire park mutated? I wonder if the security guards on duty can escape this—they should be finished after the mutants show up." Cheng Yijiu wasn't sure if the mutants still had normal intelligence. He figured they'd become morons at best, not mindless beasts.
He wasn't very much bullets left, and his only reliable weapon was probably his hunting knife. "Fight until dawn? Damn it." He glanced at his watch. There were still three hours until dawn, possibly the longest three hours in a person's life. "A normal person's logic would be to find a place to hide. This makes sense especially for me—because I'm highly resistant to so-called mental force fields." The security guard at the visitor center must be doomed now—the mental force fields were stacking up, and even though he was more than ten meters away from the visitor center, he could still feel the tingling sensation.
The security guards there are either dead or mutated.
If the mutations were superimposed, then that place would be a dangerous place to hide. But was there any hiding place nearby? Cheng Yijiu even saw some strange creatures with long, thin arms and legs moving around. At first, he thought they were shadows from trees, but they turned out to be "people" in black suits. These were also mutant beasts, but they didn't look like human mutations. If they wanted to hide, they had to find a shelter—every place where the beasts were exhibited had a shelter, so finding a suitable place to hide was a no-brainer.
He found the medium-sized carnivore's enclosure—luckily, he hadn't parked in the garage; he was now driving at full speed. This was probably because a considerable number of the mutants weren't good at high speeds, and Cheng Yijiu was practically immune to mental force fields. Any other human driver would have bled to death or mutated. He rushed into the wolf den, slammed the door behind him, and hid in the deepest part.
This place originally had an inner corridor with a small kitchen at the end for processing animal food distributed by the central kitchen. Cheng Yijiu hid in this kitchen with a single entrance and closed the door. Large mutant beasts couldn't get through, but if clever mutant humans came, they could block the door and kill them with knives. They would definitely be able to hold out until dawn, right?
Chapter 11
The situation was very serious. Cheng Yijiu could judge the waves of mutant beasts outside by the occasional pain in his head. "This time, the left is dead! Dai Zhi is in big trouble!" Cheng Yijiu could still amuse himself. The shotgun in his hand was ready. There was no way that anything could break through the front. Of course, it would be another matter if a creature that was dozens of feet tall and weighed thousands of tons could kick down the house.
Something really came over. I turned the doorknob and pushed it open with a clang. It was indeed a dead head, a zombie-like figure. From its chest to its crotch, there was a vertical, open mouth, and inside that open mouth was a large human head. It was like a small human head, arms, and legs growing out of the human head. "F**k, baby!" Cheng Yijiu said in a rising voice. Without hesitation, he stepped forward, pointed his rifle at the three-meter mark, and pulled the trigger.
"Eat it! Baby!" Amidst the roar, the single-barreled bullet in the shotgun erupted. At this distance, one bullet was enough to blow up the mutant in front of him - in fact, it was true. The mental shield failed to block the bullet. The bullet that hit the big-headed face directly blew a big hole in the back. The mutant was killed and was kicked out by Cheng Yijiu several meters away.
He simply didn't close the door and began to fold down the double-barreled shotgun, letting the shells eject. He fished out two more bullets from his belt and loaded them in. "A slug on the left and a buckshot on the right. That won't kill you sons of bitches."
Then came the second one. It was the first time that Cheng Yijiu saw a mutant who had mutated to the point where his butt was his head and his head was his butt. "Oh, DO you love dicks? HAHAHA!" This bastard was so disgusting that Cheng Yijiu fired two shotgun shells at once, blowing the butt into pieces... Of course, the mutant simply died and no longer disgusted his eyes.
Cheng Yijiu waited until dawn, but the third mutant still hadn't appeared. He walked out of the room and said, "Oh shit." The park before him looked like it had been through a world war, with traces of violence and destruction everywhere. His car was a miracle—aside from some paint loss and a slightly warped steel frame at the back, it was still drivable.
He drove back to the visitor center. "This place is surprisingly intact! I thought it looked like it had been bombed by a 500-kilogram bomb." He wanted to see if there were bodies strewn everywhere. He walked in and noticed that the security guards seemed unharmed, as if they didn't even know what had happened that night. Only Mak Cheung-ching was slumped in his seat, his hair a mess and his eyes bulging.
This guy was still mumbling, "It's over, everything is over." Cheng Yijiu walked in, "Everything is over? The insurance won't pay?"
The director ignored him, muttering to himself, "This guy's done for." "The consequences are so serious," Cheng Yijiu realized. He rushed out of the door as fast as he could to the visitor center, jumped into a car, and headed for the dedicated passage he had entered—a ground-level passage used for equipment, new personnel, and animal admissions.
"The car can't get out?" Cheng Yijiu felt more and more dangerous. His car was parked at the exit as if blocked by a transparent wall. He couldn't get out no matter what.
He jumped out of the car decisively. Cheng Yijiu reached out and felt it, knowing that the transparent yet soft thing in front of him was a shield. But why couldn't he leave? This feeling was too bad. Cheng Yijiu didn't even think of shooting. He simply took out his hunting knife and stabbed it hard. The knife penetrated the rubber-like thing very smoothly. Then he pulled down hard, and the blade cut through the invisible shield.
Cheng Yijiu pushed forward regardless, half-crouching to ensure the blade could completely cut through the front. This squeeze required a huge amount of strength, and Cheng Yijiu felt like he was dragging the tire of a heavy truck. After squeezing in, the crack healed.
"How the hell is this thing?" Cheng Yijiu was practically choking. He'd squeezed at least a meter and a half inside, and the area behind him could feel itself closing again. He wondered how much thicker it was in front of him. One meter? Two meters? Three meters? Cheng Yijiu had no air to breathe as he moved, so he held his breath. Finally, after two meters, his blade felt a sudden emptiness—and then, like a fart in Pi Yanzi's mouth, he was squeezed out at high speed, nearly falling flat on his face.
Cheng Yijiu gasped for air, nearly suffocating. When he turned around, he saw an incredibly spectacular sight—the space beneath the massive sky shield seemed to be cracking. "Collapsing inward?! I finally know where this ominous feeling comes from!" Cheng Yijiu cursed. "Poor director." That unfortunate guy must have known a lot, but now he was doomed along with the entire park.
"I've never met the director, maybe it's just a rule?" It would be better to directly question whether the world beneath the canopy is truly "real." At least that's what Cheng Yijiu now thinks. He watched as the space within shattered into pieces, then folded inward like a ball of paper before vanishing. The next second, the entire screen refreshed, revealing the exact same buildings and mountains as before.
Cheng Yijiu dug into his pocket and felt something extra inside. He pulled it out and saw it was a folded piece of paper—a piece of paper he had actually seen before; it was the offer letter he had received when he first arrived in this world. He could sense that the transparent shield he had managed to squeeze out had vanished, as if inviting him in. Cheng Yijiu shook his head, gave a wry smile, and turned away.
"Are those tourists who come here by subway really from the 'city' that they have never seen?" Cheng Yijiu thought of this question. He really didn't pay attention to ordinary tourists - because they almost all entered the park for sightseeing during the day, and the total number of people was tens of thousands. Cheng Yijiu really didn't pay attention to whether there were "duplicate" people appearing in these days.
As he drove away, Cheng Yijiu pondered this question. He glanced back and saw the driverless car start up and drive towards him. "This doesn't look like they're treating me to a lucky break." Cheng Yijiu became more and more certain that this place was not normal. The car stopped beside him and automatically opened the door to invite him in. "Once you get in, you probably won't be able to get out. Turn around and go straight into the garden." Cheng Yijiu would rather fail the mission than enter this place again.
Fortunately, just ahead on the road, there appeared a solitary door...

Chapter One
The mission was over. "I don't talk about strange things, but I've already encountered quite a few," Cheng Yijiu thought, slumped on the high-backed sofa in the hall. The real Arudimu was still playing in the snow outside the base; it seemed impossible for him to be brought in. Deep down, Cheng Yijiu didn't enjoy fighting supernatural beasts, but never mind, the feeling of life and death was not bad.
Eventually, the truth finally caught up with him—the phone rang, "What? Critical?" Anxious, Cheng Yijiu drove and then took the subway to the hospital, only to be isolated outside and unable to get in. It was then that he realized something: the bacteria or viruses had "mutated," and it wasn't just plants and animals that had mutated; even bacteria and viruses had finally mutated, and the human immune system was temporarily powerless against them.
There will definitely be immunity, as the human body is constantly mutating. Unfortunately, before immunity and effective treatments emerge, casualties are inevitable. "How is this thing transmitted? Air? Liquid?" Cheng Yijiu was also extremely anxious, but he had no other options. The God's Ointment only worked on him, and it couldn't be taken orally. A viral infection might not kill instantly, but an immune storm could easily do so.
Cheng Yijiu only just learned that several areas in the city had been quarantined, with over 10,000 people infected. Fortunately, the virus wasn't that contagious, and it was now under control. Sadly, the mortality rate was high. His parents lived in an area that was a hub of infection, and both were now unconscious in a hospital ward. The doctor's advice to him was to be mentally prepared: "There's currently no ideal treatment for this mutated virus. We can only attempt to treat it by blocking viral replication and reducing immune system function."
This basically means delaying time to see if the patient is lucky. If they can get through it, it is a victory. If they can hold on until the drug is successfully developed, it is also a victory. However, most patients probably cannot hold on.
Cheng Yijiu had only been there for two days when he noticed his beard was already prickly. When people are in pain and worry, their hair and beards grow wildly at an alarming rate. However, a demigod's body couldn't possibly collapse from being upset and having barely slept for two days. Not only did he not collapse, he actually looked quite energetic.
"My heart is like a burning house! My heart is burning with worry!" Cheng Yijiu tried to calm himself. He knew he might be left alone in the world. He couldn't even find someone to blame. The virus mutation, like the mutation of the entire world, was a natural phenomenon. How could he destroy a natural phenomenon? If it was a mutant beast in the deep forest that spread the virus, Cheng Yijiu could just rush into the forest and kill the beast directly to vent his anger.
Now, he could only wait. Three days later, the two elders were pronounced dead one after another.
The chosen warrior, a champion who had never flinched in the face of man-eating beasts, wept bitterly. He could only take one last look at his parents through the glass. After handling the funeral arrangements, Cheng Yijiu had no one left to linger on. If this little house were to send him to another world, Cheng Yijiu would have decided not to return. From then on, he drifted across the world—that didn't make sense. It seemed like all the heroes in Greek mythology had similar fates.
Wandering around and causing trouble, isn't that what so-and-so does? And it seems that the other so-and-so is the same.
Now it's his turn...
Cheng Yijiu had already tried. The hut had the ability to instantly heal him, but it was useless to anyone else—they couldn't even bring it in, and they couldn't even see the door. There were no medicines to buy in the hut. This was a mutated virus, and there was currently no medicine in the hut that could cure it. Otherwise, he would have given it a try.
Cheng Yijiu was writing his resignation letter, preparing to quit his current job as a forest ranger. The question then arose: how would the scorpion lion be relocated? It would have to be relocated to a park, and Cheng Yijiu probably couldn't stay away for long. While the scorpion lion was quite intelligent, it still needed to see its "friends" occasionally, even though Cheng Yijiu had said that a week or two every six months was fine.
Arudimurra also understood this situation and of course accepted it - he could even give himself a name, and his IQ was no less than that of a killer whale.
Cheng Yijiu decided to travel around for a while. To be honest, he had not really seen the beautiful rivers and mountains of his motherland since he returned to China. Although the rivers and mountains are much bigger now and even more dangerous, the transportation between major cities can still be guaranteed. So he decided to go around and take a look.
The satellite was still functional, and Cheng Yijiu retained his position as a member of the relevant department's operations team, so he knew about the increase in land area. China had the largest land area increase in the world, bar none. This increase even resulted in the emergence of an inland sea—Qinghai Lake became Qinghai, with an area comparable to the Mediterranean Sea. Several new river systems also emerged, including one connecting to Lake Baikal and, in turn, the Arctic Ocean.
Another river system connects to the Indian Ocean, but it's just a source, with two rivers flowing north and south, respectively. Navigation is out of the question. Navigation from the Himalayas is a pipe dream. The Himalayas have become thicker, but the world's highest peak is no longer in the Himalayas, but in the Kunlun Mountains—a mountain range that has grown considerably, with satellite measurements showing its new main peak, Yaochi Peak, to be over 10,000 meters high.
All peaks exceeding 10,000 meters, measured from the foot of the mountain, are now located within China, including Mount Gongga, the king of snow-capped mountains in Sichuan. China's mountain ranges are further developing, with millions of square kilometers of newly formed mountain ranges emerging. These ranges have yet to be fully explored, and so the only options are to use the names of the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Natural forest coverage has also skyrocketed. With the emergence of new land, even the former Yunmeng Marsh has reappeared, with a natural water area exceeding 30,000 square kilometers, and a similar amount of swampland. The water depth is estimated to average over 50 meters. Its deepest point is currently unknown.
The Yangtze River grew wider, longer, and larger, as did the Yellow River. Even the long-lost Ji River reappeared, flowing thousands of kilometers directly into the Bohai Sea. Add to that the lengthened and greatly increased flow of the Huai River, and suddenly the four great rivers of ancient China reappeared. By this time, China's land area had exceeded 16 million square kilometers, comparable to that of Russia. Unfortunately, Russia's increased acreage was almost entirely in Asia, making it difficult to utilize.
The Northeast has developed a continuous network of lakes and cold-zone swamps, along with a significant increase in forests and mountains. Cheng Yijiu estimates that China's rare and exotic animals have increased by at least tenfold, and many legendary creatures may have appeared. The wilderness has become extremely dangerous, and new lands haven't been thoroughly explored, leaving everyone completely in the dark. The world's oceans have grown, and the Pacific Ocean has become even larger—the distance between China and the United States has at least doubled. If it weren't for the emergence of a vast archipelago in between, and the most important, the Hawaiian Islands, which have doubled in size, it would have been impossible to fly across in one go.
Chapter two
North America, South America, and Europe saw relatively little change, with each gaining about a million square kilometers of mountains, forests, and lakes. The biggest change in Europe was England, whose three islands actually grew by half. Africa was the only continent to not grow larger this time around; even Australia and Antarctica were larger.
That damned place, Australia, is a whopping 400,000 to 500,000 square kilometers, and that's just the volcanic belt in the center. Similarly, Southeast Asia and New Zealand, the islands surrounding Australia, have added a significant number of islands. Antarctica has expanded by over 2 million square kilometers, and its icy landscape is even more terrifying—this is to create symmetry with the expanded Arctic Ocean.
This is also one of the reasons why the current cold wave has become so terrifying.
Atmospheric circulation has become more intense because the oceans have grown larger, and the increased surface area has heated them more, making the original ocean currents even stronger. The vast Asian continent has made Europe a "peninsula." Given the current poor engineering capabilities of Europeans, they have truly returned to the independent city-states of the Middle Ages.
Because the roads hadn't been maintained in a timely manner, they were blocked by the newly formed land, the rampant growth of nature, and the mutated monsters. According to the news Cheng Yijiu had received, European countries had been shattered into hundreds of entities, and a true humanitarian disaster was imminent—especially in Dezi. Thanks to the Green Party, most cities had lost their power supply, there was no fuel supply, and food was probably not enough.
Therefore, the population is being lost, especially the elderly, the weak and the disabled. Compared with the ferocious mutant beasts, the weather is the weapon that reaps human lives.
Will the Germans regret this? Probably. But there are plenty of Turks over there, along with blacks and Persian Arabs who would piss off a mustache, so whatever—they can't go back anyway, so let these new Germans use the old Germans as fuel. Same with France. Paris is full of foreigners, so let the foreigners turn Paris into Lebanon.
In contrast, the Americans' tactics were more ruthless, more decisive—rednecks took up arms and launched a campaign of solidarity. Many leftists, considered social parasites, especially those supporting Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ movement, were shot dead. California was in chaos; these leftists were completely powerless against bullets.
This was the only way to do it. The Americans had seen the fate of their northern neighbors—disorganized people smoking tobacco and returning to the early 19th century, freezing to death in their homes in droves, and of course, being dragged away and eaten by wild beasts in the polar wilderness. Tens of thousands of people were fleeing southward into the United States every day—and that was just the active ones near the border.
Canadian cities are actually better off than their German counterparts in Europe. At least they haven't bombed their own power plants. While they're reckless, they still have some sense. However, due to the disruption to transportation, power plants are running low on raw materials and struggling to generate enough electricity. This, of course, has also led to skyrocketing electricity prices. Immigrants to Canada are now forced to shell out a fortune on plane tickets back home.
Flights still exist, but prices have skyrocketed. Planes now require modification to fly the Arctic route to North America, and the journey is significantly longer, with refueling stops along the way—and refueling within the Arctic Circle is expensive. Those who went to such great lengths to immigrate there now have to scramble to get visas from the embassy to return home, shelling out tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars for a ticket.
The problem is that Canadian houses are not selling for a good price, and are really worthless in the current situation. Of course, you can also take a boat. Large ships travel along the coastline, which is relatively safe. It takes more than two months to travel from the west coast of North America to the east coast of Asia, and the boat ticket only costs tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of yuan.
Mutant beasts usually don't attack large ships near the coastline. Cheng Yijiu sold his house—this time, he even sold his former pet supply store. The golden eagle had already flown away, and after the mutation, Miss Tang had already married—to a wealthy second-generation man.
Unfortunately, this was before the mutation. The situation was different after the mutation - ordinary rich men were not popular, and were just slightly better than ordinary people. People with "power" were the new elites of the era, or they were very rich and owned advanced industries. Like national government officials, they were still the upper class.
So what Cheng Yijiu heard was that Miss Tang's married life was very ordinary, but since she was in love, that was of course acceptable.
Cheng Yijiu planned to use the money from selling the house to travel the world. With an RV, there were only two moments of genuine satisfaction and joy: the moment you bought it and the moment you sold it. Cheng Yijiu himself had driven an RV during missions. While driving an RV in countries with a RV tradition like the United States was fine, it was inconvenient in China, where there wasn't one.
Now that things have evolved, RVs should be a popular option—long-distance travel would rely on rest stops along the highway, with RVs driving from one leg to the next. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Railways are fine, but many highways are dead. Provinces are currently mapping out their routes, trying to open them up piecemeal. So, forget about RVs for now. Highways without military vehicles patrolling them day and night are still quite dangerous.
The main problem is that there are all kinds of wild animals running around, which can easily cause car accidents.
There aren't that many exotic beasts, and most of the time, you won't encounter one on the road. But why drive when you can take the high-speed rail? The current high-speed rail line has been upgraded. While still fast, it now features armored carriages and a new, stronger alloy. The railway company has been reorganized into a ministry, now boasting a fully-fledged railway corps—this time combining armed patrols with roadbed maintenance.
Cheng Yijiu's first destination was a place he'd been to before—the northern capital. He wanted to see the vastly expanded Yanshan Mountains. Then he'd head to Xi'an, Xinjiang, and Qinghai to see the newly formed inland seas, and finally, a trip to the southwest. His next destination would depend on which missions the hut assigned him.
"I wonder what kind of man-eating beast it might be." Cheng Yijiu was still quite curious. He was alone in the high-speed train sleeper, so he simply opened the door and entered the cabin. The food on the high-speed train was pretty average. I heard that Japanese train bento are very famous, but I didn't have the chance to eat it when I went to Japan last time to deal with an issue. Now Japan has become a lot fatter, but also a lot more dangerous. I don't know when I will have to deal with trouble again.
The American troops stationed there were retreating, and Xiaobenzi himself was powerless to suppress the many problems. The expanded territory had given rise to many poor mountains and bad waters, and even more dangerous beasts. These little devils probably couldn't even ensure the smooth operation of the entire railway line...
third chapter
The Xiba people are one of the rare countries whose landmass hasn't grown, making them even more like the "Asia Bulls." Naturally, their confidence is also weakening due to the increasing severity of weather and shifting ocean currents. This small country experiences constant rain and snow, and a long winter. The average temperature is quite good, so at least they can still harvest potatoes. Anyway, this poor country is like this; even Cheng Yijiu doesn't want to go.
If he wanted to see the species of Northeast China, he could just go directly to Northeast China. The Yalu River separates them and the ecological environment is very different. If he goes there, he can only see Xiba and nothing else.
It's precisely because of this that these two countries are among the few places where disasters don't occur, though life has become a little more difficult due to changes in the world. The absence of disasters also means the absence of opportunities; misfortunes often lead to good fortune...
It is really poor. Xiao Xiba has been poor since ancient times. It was occasionally rich for a few years but now it is back to being poor.
Cheng Yijiu watched the high-speed train hurtle along, the scenery on both sides somewhat breathtaking—hills, mountains, dense forests, lakes, and rivers—something completely new to Beijing. It could be said that the areas without rail lines had expanded, so that the entire Chinese railway network remained unchanged, but the entire urban landscape on the map of China had become distorted. Simply put, the entire part of China east of the Hu Weiyong Line looked as if it had been compressed...
Anyway, that's the situation. Many mountain villages must be rescued by military helicopters, otherwise they'll be wiped out in a matter of days. Some villages can't even wait for rescue—there are mountains for hundreds of kilometers, making it difficult for helicopters to reach them. Not to mention the mutants.
