Chapter 1 The Beginning of Collapse
At dawn, the area surrounding the Tower of Babylon was as bright as day. The Siberian frozen ground was littered with the wreckage of mechas, flames blazing in countless bomb craters, and the surrounding snow had long since melted away, revealing a scene ravaged by war.
"I, Walter, declare war on you on behalf of mankind!" Walter's face was covered in blood, and he stared firmly at the powerful purple-haired girl in front of him, with no intention of retreating.
"All troops... fire!" Walter spread his arms, and instantly, countless devices, powered by the power of the Ruler of Reason, opened fire on the Apostles of Honkai, pushing the battle into a fierce stage. ...And this brutal war began not long ago. ...Some time ago, beside a small wooden house in the woods, a young man who looked like a native of Shenzhou lazily lounged on a garden chair, gazing at the snowy scene before him. He appeared reserved and peaceful, and no one would have suspected his other, infamous identity: Chi You, a Judgment-level Honkai Beast from ancient Shenzhou. Thousands of years ago, due to various circumstances, Chi You gained self-awareness and, while traveling throughout Shenzhou, received his name, Fu You, from the Human Emperor Fuxi. However, this good fortune was short-lived, as Fu You's identity as a Honkai Beast was revealed, leading him to engage in a fierce battle with the powerful immortal who protected Shenzhou. Naturally, he was defeated, otherwise Fu You would not have chosen to leave Shenzhou and instead wander the world. It was also after that battle that Fu You discovered that the human race was not as weak as he had imagined, so he began to avoid exposing his whereabouts as much as possible and lay dormant. This wandering lasted for thousands of years. Fu You felt his increasingly powerful strength and eventually returned to Shenzhou, wanting to fight the immortal again, but found that the former immortal had disappeared. If the immortal is not known to the world, then no one can be his opponent, Fu You thought. So, the bored Fu You chose to leave Shenzhou again and continue his wandering life. And today is the first day that Fu You arrived in Siberia to settle down. Just when Fu You was resting, an elk stumbled over and bumped into the snow pile next to Fu You. Looking at the clumsy elk, Fu You smiled knowingly, but suddenly, he discovered something, and the smile froze on his face unconsciously.
"This is..." Fu You slowly walked towards the elk and lifted its hoof. The hoof had transformed into a pure white silicon-based substance, with dark purple lines carved into it—a clear sign of Honkai energy erosion. The surrounding air was also filled with almost imperceptible Honkai energy.
"How is this possible? This is a deserted place. This shouldn't happen..." Fu You muttered to himself, frowning. He knew there might be potential trouble around him, most likely from his own irrational people. Ultimately, Fu You decided to investigate the surroundings first. He didn't want his peaceful life to be disturbed by the emergence of the Honkai Incident. After searching for a while, Fu You actually discovered something incredible - in the distant snowy plains, the shadow of a towering tower loomed. Fu You could also sense the constantly fluctuating energy coming from there, the same source as his own. Without further ado, Fu You immediately rushed towards the tower.
The Babylon Laboratory, the second-largest Honkai energy research facility in Tianming, specializes in the study of the integration of the human body and Honkai energy, and is advertised as the world's largest Honkai disease treatment facility. Tianming's medical institutions transport qualified young girls from around the world to Babylon for so-called "treatments," or rather, lengthy, horrific human experiments. These girls become medical supplies for the integration of Honkai energy and the human body, consumed within this laboratory. These suffering children yearn for salvation from Tianming, but they only encounter dark imprisonment and endless Honkai energy experiments. Only one condition can free these girls from these experiments: death. A cold moonlight filtered through a crack in the tower, illuminating a secluded corner beside the Babylon Tower, faintly illuminating a purple-haired girl kneeling motionlessly before a series of small mounds of earth.
"Hey, are you done? Why are you still taking so long to deal with the waste?" The guard behind him urged, already impatient.
"Hurry up and finish processing and get back to the experiment. I can't be bothered to waste time on these waste products."
As always, another test subject couldn't hold out and died on the operating table. The supervisor, used to seeing this happen, handed the disposal of the body to the guard. The guard, too lazy to do it himself, called over another test subject who had been tricked into coming in with the deceased girl and handed her the burial.
"Did you hear me? I told you to hurry!" The guard frowned at the motionless purple-haired girl before him, and while scolding her, he approached her. The purple-haired girl simply knelt in front of the small mound she had just dug out, lost in thought, without a single response or movement.
"Pa--" Seeing that the other party had no reaction, the guard suddenly became furious and slapped the girl hard. The latter could not dodge in time, and her frail body fell to the side, with bright red blood oozing from the corner of her mouth.
"You dare to show off over a consumable? Watch out, these waste products will be your fate!" The guard's face was grim and he threatened fiercely. However, considering that the number of experimental subjects was limited and that it would be difficult to report to his superiors if someone died, the guard left the girl lying on the ground and left the place unhappily. The guard was not afraid of the girl's escape. The surrounding area was a deserted snowy plain, and the location of the Babylon Laboratory meant that even if the experimental subjects were outside the Babylon Tower, they would not be able to escape. The girl ignored the severe pain on her face and stared at the grave mound with a numb expression.
"Bella, Bella..." the young girl murmured, her eyes hollow and devoid of light. Her name was Xilin, and she had been wandering since her mother's death from illness. Though without her parents, Xilin was fortunate to have found a few friends who shared her life. Not long ago, Xilin and her friends had been drawn to the Tianming staff by their promises, believing their future would be bright. Instead, they were led down a dark path. Xilin vaguely remembered the promises made to them.
"Your parents died of a disease called [Honkai]."
"But don't worry, we at the Destiny Organization will adopt you. Also, you're lucky to be born with antibodies to the Houkai energy. For the sake of humanity, some experiments require your cooperation..." "It might be a little painful, but you'll get used to it..." However, once the girls entered this sinister tower, the researchers tore off their hypocritical masks and recklessly sacrificed lives in one experiment after another, never tiring of it. They injected Houkai energy reagents in large quantities and frequently, with no regard for the fate of these "consumables." Demons cloaked in white watched the girls in agony from the glass windows, laughing heartily and taking delight in betting on which test subject would survive the longest. Aurora, Agata, and finally Bella... As her dearest friends passed away one by one, Celine was left alone in this cage. Celine could no longer shed a single tear. She gazed up at the sky, catching the moonlight outside the window, and prayed helplessly. Celine was despairing, believing she would not live much longer. Unless the omnipotent god in the stories my mother used to tell me can appear, if there really are gods in this world...
Chapter 2 The Herrscher Arrives
At midnight on February 2000, 2, somewhere in the snowy plains of Siberia, a towering spire, incongruous with its surroundings, stood tall amidst the vast expanse of snow, remarkably serene in the night. Yet, within this tranquil night, a murder of vengeance was taking place within the tower.
"Hurry! That monster is catching up!" Several researchers in white coats lost their composure and ran in panic. From time to time, they glanced back, as if something terrifying was following them.
"Hehe..." A chuckling sound, like the playful laughter of a vengeful ghost, echoed throughout the empty tower. The laughter remained at a distance from the fleeing researchers, as if the voice's owner was enjoying this cat-and-mouse game.
“Huh… Huh… Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!” A fat researcher could no longer run and fell behind the others. Suddenly, he saw a strange white shadow appear behind him.
"Help! Don't leave me!" the fat researcher cried, but his companions had no intention of helping him and ran even harder.
"My legs! I can't feel my legs!" "It hurts so much! It hurts so much!!!" "Help me... Help..." The remaining people, who had finally managed to escape into the monitoring room and locked the door, collapsed into a daze as the voices grew fainter. Looking at the heavy alloy door, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Selfish humans, do you think you'll be safe if you abandon your companions?" Suddenly, a faint voice rang out in their ears. They were horrified to find that the white figure, like a ghost seeking death, was now grinning and jokingly watching them.
"arrive."
Surveying the majestic tower before him, Fu You could sense the immense Houkai energy within. The place was deserted, the gates wide open, yet no one emerged, creating an eerie atmosphere. Fu You slowly entered the tower, his figure fading into the shadows. The space within was vast, resembling a vast laboratory, overflowing with equipment and tables cluttered with data and reports. Fu You ignored the clutter and instinctively headed for the area with the highest Houkai energy concentration. Finally, after many twists and turns, he found a massive furnace-like structure. A purple mist of Houkai energy was visible around it. It seemed that the inexplicably appearing Houkai energy was escaping from this source, Fu You thought, as he tried to absorb the vast amount of Houkai energy. While he didn't understand why this tower contained such a dangerous substance, the highly concentrated Houkai energy, which would kill ordinary humans, was a rare delicacy for him.
"Bang—bang—" Just as Fu You absorbed the energy from the Houkai reactor, several gunshots rang out from the distance above, followed by silence. Suddenly sensing something, Fu You's eyes froze, and he glanced behind him. Unbeknownst to him, a purple-haired girl quietly appeared behind him. She remained motionless, simply observing his movements, her presence brimming with Houkai energy. Even more eerie, the girl evoked an inexplicable familiarity in Fu You, as if he had met a long-lost friend. Xilin felt the same way. Despite her current deep hatred for the adults, she found a strange kinship with Fu You, so she chose to observe rather than attack rashly. Meanwhile, Fu You was brainstorming. A humanoid figure could wield Houkai energy, and yet still possess a natural affinity for him... Besides the immortal from Shenzhou, Fu You had only encountered this once before, decades ago, in Berlin, during the "First Great Houkai." The person in question was known as the "First Herrscher." Almost the moment their eyes met, Fu You was certain the girl before him bore some resemblance to the immortal from Shenzhou or the First Herrscher; she was definitely not a good person. While confident in his own strength, he felt no need to incur unnecessary trouble. Furthermore, the girl before him felt so familiar, like a kindred spirit... It would be best not to act rashly. Glancing deeply at Xilin, Fu You slowly retreated, cautiously observing her movements. Seeing no attempt to stop him, Fu You breathed a sigh of relief. Then, with a sudden movement, he vanished instantly. Seeing Xilin's reluctance to stop him, Fu You also breathed a sigh of relief. Her remaining strength was running low, so she decided not to engage in a confrontation with that mysterious figure. After a night of slaughter, his Honkai energy was running low, and his priority was to draw power from the Honkai reactor.
"I will continue to absorb the energy of this furnace, grow stronger, and then... kill all those hypocritical adults!" Xilin licked her lips, her eyes filled with excitement and madness. The Second Herrscher, unbeknownst to anyone, had quietly descended upon the world.
Fu You didn't go far, instead hiding near the Tower of Babylon. A mysterious laboratory, powerful Houkai energy reactions, a strange girl... Fu You desperately wanted to understand what was going on. He had discovered the symbol of Destiny within the Tower. Fu You had some impression of the organization, but his last encounter with its power had been a long time ago. It was probably not long after the Black Death, when the old Destiny was overthrown by a rebellious uprising, and a new one was built by a blond man. Fu You vaguely remembered that period, having witnessed it firsthand while traveling around Europe. However, Destiny was still very weak then, struggling to handle even a simple Houkai disaster, let alone build a laboratory capable of storing such a vast amount of Houkai energy. It seemed that, like him, Destiny had grown stronger over the intervening years. However, Fu You still didn't understand Destiny's purpose here, nor the origins of the purple-haired girl. Gazing at the towering tower, Fu You pondered, feeling that what was about to happen would be more than simple. Sensing his surroundings, Fu You waited patiently, always trusting his instincts. He watched as a bright light streaked across the sky, a gentle sunlight shimmering upon the summit of the Tower of Babel. Finally, as midday approached, the sound of helicopter engines approached from afar. Watching from the darkness, Fu You saw several helicopters bearing the symbol of Destiny slowly descend. Their hatches opened, and several humans emerged, heading straight for the Tower of Babel. Destiny's men had arrived.
Chapter 3 Undercurrent
Babylon Labs, Mandate's second-largest Honkai energy research facility, had been out of contact with Mandate headquarters for an entire night. Mandate headquarters took this matter seriously and immediately activated the Babylon Tower's surveillance system to investigate the cause. Everyone was horrified to discover that all 322 researchers at Babylon Labs had seemingly vanished overnight. The surveillance equipment showed the researchers seemingly witnessing something terrifying before disappearing, but aside from a faint white light, the cameras captured nothing. The bizarre nature of this incident attracted the attention of Mandate Bishop Otto, who ordered a thorough investigation the following morning. Meanwhile, on Mandate's floating island, Theresa Apokalis was enjoying a visit with her best friend, Cecilia, a fellow S-rank Valkyrie, and her family. In contrast to the tense situation at Babylon Tower, the unaware individuals were leisurely strolling around, chatting and laughing.
"This... do I really have to dress like this for the photo shoot?" Theresa looked hesitant. Unlike her usual nun attire, Theresa was now wearing Shenzhou clothing and even had her hair tied up in a bun. She did not have the majesty of an S-class Valkyrie at all.
"Don't be shy, Kiana really likes your dress~" Siegfried smiled and fiddled with his camera, ready to show off his photography skills. Looking at Kiana's innocent smile in her arms, Theresa was immediately captivated by it.
"Since Kiana likes it..." Theresa rubbed Kiana's head lovingly, posed and looked at the camera.
"Ready? One, two, three..." Siegfried picked up his camera and pointed it at Theresa and Kiana. As the shutter clicked, pictures appeared one after another, showing Theresa and Kiana beaming with joy. Time froze in place.
"Theresa, thank you for your hard work!" Cecilia, who had gone out to buy drinks, happened to come back at this time. She smiled and sat next to Theresa, and specially handed her a glass of bitter melon juice.
"Thank you for coming with us to take artistic photos of Kiana. Kiana likes you very much!" "It's okay, it's not hard at all!" Looking at the extremely cute Kiana who was jumping and skipping to find Siegfried, Theresa suddenly felt that her heart was healed.
"By the way, Theresa, don't forget to come to my house for dinner next Saturday. Siegfried has learned a new dish!" Cecilia invited warmly, completely unaware of the slight change in the other person's expression.
"Ha...haha, there's no need to eat..." Theresa forced a smile. She vaguely remembered the delicious meal Siegfried had cooked the last time—a pile of something that looked like charcoal. Was Cecilia able to eat it because her palate was clueless, or because she loved Siegfried? Theresa couldn't help but ponder.
"How peaceful it is! I really hope this peaceful life can last a while longer..." Cecilia held her chin with both hands, looking kindly at Siegfried and Kiana, father and daughter, who were having fun not far away, and couldn't help but sigh.
"Yes, if days like this could last forever..." Theresa agreed, but before she could finish her words, the communicator on her waist suddenly rang.
"This is... an urgent order from the Bishop!" Theresa was shocked after taking a look at the communicator.
"Good luck, Theresa."
Cecilia also saw the urgent order Otto issued to Theresa, and could only wish Theresa all the best. This was the awareness and mission that a Valkyrie should have.
"You too, Cecilia. I hope you get well soon."
After saying that, Theresa left in a hurry.
"Why did Theresa leave? Did she have something urgent to do?" Siegfried, not knowing what was going on, brought Kiana to Cecilia, scratched his head, and asked curiously.
"It's an urgent order from the bishop."
Cecilia watched her best friend leave, her face full of worry.
"Emergency order during the holiday... I hope everything is going well for Theresa."
Siegfried also knew what the bishop's urgent order meant, and at this moment he could only wish Theresa success in her mission.
"Aunt...Aunt..." Kiana murmured in a baby voice. She was reluctant to let Theresa leave.
The helicopter slowly landed, and Theresa's thoughts drifted back from the floating island.
"Lady Theresa, the accident occurred at the Babylon Laboratory somewhere in the snowy Siberia."
Patrick, the A-rank Valkyrie who came with Theresa, was reporting the situation.
"It is the second largest Honkai energy research site in Mandate of Heaven, and is equipped with the world's third largest Honkai energy reactor."
"The tower is divided into fifty floors. The bottom twenty floors are the energy area where the reactor is placed, and the other thirty floors are divided into three research departments."
"Just this morning, Tianming Headquarters lost contact with the Babylon Laboratory. Intelligence personnel have confirmed that all 322 researchers within the Babylon Laboratory have vanished into thin air."
After introducing the relevant situation, Patrick looked serious. This incident was too strange and he had no idea where to start.
"Late at night...in the wilderness...disappeared...could it be haunted?" After hearing this information, Theresa felt sick. She has always been afraid of horror stories, and this incident sounded like the plot in those horror movies.
"For Kiana, for Cecilia, get your act together, Theresa! You can do it!" Theresa knew that if she didn't resolve the situation here, given Otto's personality, he would definitely transfer Cecilia, who hadn't fully recovered yet. For her best friend and niece, Theresa decided to risk it all. ...Unnoticed by anyone, thousands of meters away, someone was quietly observing the group. Fu You could sense that the shortest of the group was the most powerful and the most likely to pose a threat to him. But the threat posed by all of them combined was no match for the purple-haired girl. If these people came for the girl from yesterday, they would be defeated. Fu You was absolutely certain of this; in his opinion, the two sides were completely different. After watching them enter the tower, Fu You brushed off the snow and slowly stood up. He gazed with interest at the distant snow curtain. There, he could hear a familiar energy fluctuation, which felt very similar to that of the purple-haired girl. Following Fu You's gaze, 5 kilometers from the Tower of Babylon, countless mechas stood silently in place, seemingly waiting for something. The brown-haired man in the lead seemed to notice something was amiss. He adjusted his glasses and looked around, but found nothing amiss.
"Don't worry, Walter."
Seeing the brown-haired man seemed a little anxious, the short-blue-haired woman behind him, Dr. Einstein, the famous doctor in Anti-Entropy, spoke slowly.
"Our best spy has already entered the Tower of Babel. We need to wait for the intelligence she brings back."
"It's not because of this..." Walter shook his head. He wasn't anxious about the time to attack, but he felt that he was being watched by something dangerous and lurking. He hoped it was an illusion... Walter was always a little uneasy.
Chapter 4: Attack by Honkai Beast
"...A-choo!" Next to a mech, Dr. Tesla, with his fiery red hair and two ponytails flaring like lobster tentacles, looked formidable. But now, he was beginning to feel the strain of the harsh conditions on the snowy plains. Even wrapped in thick clothing, the Siberian cold was still biting. Watching the setting sun, Tesla felt a wave of annoyance. He had been here all day without any activity.
"Hey, Chicken-Cot Head, aren't we here to attack the Tower of Babylon and take away the Herrscher? What's the point of standing here like an idiot?" Shrinking his neck, Tesla complained rudely to Einstein who was busy next to him.
"Don't worry, Dr. Tesla."
The blue-haired woman spoke slowly. Compared to Tesla's hot temper, Einstein seemed much calmer and composed.
"We are waiting for an opportunity... Try to avoid fighting with the forces of the Heavenly Fate, and then bring back the new Herrscher."
Einstein analyzed rationally and tried to calm Tesla, who was gradually becoming agitated.
"Anti-Entropy doesn't yet have the ability to engage in a direct war with Destiny. I believe the leader must also hope that this incident can be resolved peacefully."
"Oh, this is so frustrating! When Anti-Entropy gets going, I'm going to fuck that bastard Otto with the ass!" Einstein looked at Tesla helplessly, cursing and already thinking of ripping Otto into pieces. In the entire Anti-Entropy, even the leader couldn't control a frantic Tesla. Letting her vent, Einstein thought, might be fine. But neither scientist noticed that the snow was shaking slightly deep down not far from them.
Fu You intended to test the strength of the brown-haired man with black-framed glasses. In all the years since leaving Shenzhou, this man was one of the few people Fu You had encountered who had aroused a sense of danger. Walter even posed a slightly greater threat to Fu You than the strange purple-haired girl. Still, compared to the immortal from Shenzhou, he was still far behind. Fu You was certain the brown-haired man couldn't defeat him, but he still wanted to test his strength. He sensed that Walter, like the immortal, held a profound hatred for Honkai. This was a stark contrast to the purple-haired girl. Because of his innate Honkai identity, even though he differed from his fellow creatures who were mindless and engaged in murder and destruction, he naturally stood in opposition to humans. For thousands of years, Fu You had witnessed countless human struggles against Honkai and had a clear understanding of his own. He couldn't possibly join the humans, and humans couldn't tolerate a Judgment-level Honkai beast with a bloody past. But Fu You also didn't want to return to the embrace of Honkai. He didn't want to be left with only savage Honkai beasts for company after the world's destruction—without anyone to communicate, Fu You would go mad. Fence-sitting often ends badly, but fortunately, Fu You possessed the strength to protect himself. Ultimately, Fu You felt it necessary to understand the true nature of the opposing forces of Honkai, even for his own sake. As for why he didn't deal with Walter now to avoid future trouble... Ever since destroying a city thousands of years ago and nearly being sealed away by the immortals of Shenzhou and several humans, Fu You hadn't dared to easily provoke those humans personally. Who knew what they might have up their sleeves? After a moment's deliberation, Fu You slowly extended his hand, unleashing a tremendous Honkai energy. Invisibly, the magnetic field surrounding the Tower of Babylon was thrown into chaos. Meanwhile, Tianming Headquarters lost contact with the investigation team.
"Hmm?" Walter in the distance immediately sensed something was wrong. As a Herrscher, no one knew the flow of Honkai energy better than him. And right now, the Honkai energy around the entire Babylon Laboratory seemed to be rioting.
"Alliance leader, all electronic equipment has failed."
Einstein came over and reported with a serious face. She suspected that Tianming might have discovered her intentions.
"Roar—" Before Walter could react, roars suddenly erupted from all directions. Hundreds of tall, powerful, white-colored Honkai beasts with purple-red markings emerged from the snow. Upon their appearance, the Honkai beasts displayed their bloodlust and belligerence, roaring as they charged toward the Anti-Entropy forces.
"Logically, the Herrschers shouldn't be fully awakened yet, so why are there so many Honkai beasts?" Walter frowned. He didn't know the reason for the Honkai beasts' appearance, but he still left his base and headed towards them. The Anti-Entropy mechas had already taken a defensive stance and were about to retaliate when they realized that their leader had suddenly stood in front of them.
"Crush them all under gravity!" Walter growled, converging a red-black sphere in his hand. Instantly, a powerful pressure unleashed upon the Houkai beasts. An invisible field seemed to form ahead; any Houkai beast that entered would be instantly pinned to the ground, unable to move, until they were crushed into a heap of fragments. However, these mindless, lower-tier Houkai beasts knew no death and continued their relentless charge, charging desperately towards the Anti-Entropy forces. Soon, the snowy plain was littered with Houkai wreckage. Walter barely had time to breathe a sigh of relief at the near-annihilation of the Houkai beast herd before another wave of Houkai beasts, appearing out of nowhere, struck again. A closer look revealed that this Houkai beast herd was nearly double the size of the previous one, and each one appeared even more powerful. The instigator of all this, silently observing from afar, watched Fu You silently as he summoned his lower-tier Houkai beasts. He had already sent thousands of Houkai beasts into battle, yet he showed no signs of fatigue. Years of accumulation have accrued Fuyou's Honkai energy to an immense degree, so concentrated that it has formed several crystals within his body, which can be considered his unique "heart." Putting aside the power of the Herrscher, each heart is only more powerful than the Herrscher's core, nurturing the body of this terrifying, ancient, Judgment-level Honkai beast. Over the course of countless years, Fuyou even awakened the Herrscher-exclusive ability to summon lower-level Honkai beasts. While the constant summoning of Honkai beasts consumes a significant amount of Honkai energy, it's nothing compared to Fuyou's vast reserves. Thousands and tens of thousands of years of accumulation have profoundly transformed Fuyou, leaving him with few weaknesses. As the Honkai beasts' appearances became more frequent, the Anti-Entropy mechas decisively opened fire, raining down countless lasers and artillery shells upon them. The thick snow instantly melted, revealing the dark earth once again.
"Doctor, what's the situation now?" After destroying another wave of Honkai beasts, Walter took advantage of the gap in between to return to Einstein. The latter was directing the personnel to replace the ammunition for the mecha with a serious expression. Seeing Walter coming, he spoke helplessly.
"We have no idea of the current situation. The magnetic field is completely disrupted, and electronic equipment is unusable. If we still want to capture the Second Herrscher, we have no choice but to hold on here."
"Then wait here. The Second Herrscher must not be lost. We must not let the Destiny's people take her away."
Walter adjusted his glasses and made a sudden decision. Although the Honkai beasts were appearing more and more, they were merely ordinary, low-ranked beasts with little power. He and Anti-Entropy's mecha were more than capable of handling them. Compared to the importance of the Second Herrscher, a mere swarm of Honkai beasts wasn't enough to force Anti-Entropy to abandon its plan.
