"Holy crap, where am I?!"
It's dark, damp, and smells musty, like it hasn't been ventilated for decades!
"Just thinking about what kind of water these pants have been soaked in makes me lose my appetite for the rest of my life."
"Then focus on your breathing."
The pipe sloped downwards, and the water flowed faster and faster until it was almost propelling them directly into the darkness ahead.
Suddenly, a dazzling arc of light appeared ahead.
After an unknown amount of time, they finally managed to escape from the drain.
The three of them were thrown into a wide, shallow area due to inertia. Wang Baixi struggled to climb out of the water, spitting out water from his mouth as he looked up at the sky.
But the sky over Gotham Harbor was completely different from when they entered the sewers. A blinding beam of light was rapidly expanding above the sea to the west of the city, turning the entire sky a sickly bright white.
"Something's wrong," Batman's pupils suddenly contracted, and he turned to shout at Wang Baixi and Nightwing, "Close your eyes! Lie down!"
The intense light engulfed the entire port area in the next second.
Even with his eyes tightly closed, Wang Baixi could still feel the intense white light that exploded in an instant, passing through his eyelids like an unstoppable heat wave.
At that moment, Wang Baixi's heart didn't pound as much as he had expected. He never imagined that when death actually swung its scythe at him, he would have no reaction at all.
There was neither mourning for this insignificant life nor panic about falling into the deepest hell.
How should I put it? It's a very calm feeling.
He was so calm that he even wanted to open his eyes to see this world-shaking scene.
But when he forced his eyes open, he was horrified.
A tiny point of light pierced the sky.
"Batman, what's that?!"
The beam of light trailed a straight white wave of energy as it rose vertically upwards, disappearing into the horizon in the blink of an eye.
Was it a bird? Or a shooting star?
As he wondered what was happening, the bright light disappeared.
The bright white light faded, leaving only a few wisps of white steam slowly drifting above the sea.
Near the port, the air was thick with the smell of burning, but Gotham remained calm and intact, as if the blinding light that seemed to engulf everything was just an illusion.
Wang Baixi opened his eyes completely, and Batman stood up as well.
A figure was slowly descending in mid-air directly in front of the three people.
Although the figure was still far away from Wang Baixi, he could already make out the other person's outline and the bright red color.
The wind swirled a wad of bright red cloth behind the man, making it flutter and tug like a flag.
As he drew closer, the huge S-shaped badge on his chest gradually became clearer in the hazy dust, his blue battle suit shone brightly, and his rugged features took on a more defined shape.
He's Superman!
"Looks like you're late, Batman. I thought you'd be here before me. Who did that ship thing?" Superman said to Batman with a wry smile.
“It’s the Joker,” Batman slowly stepped out of the puddle, facing the wind ahead, and walked up to the son of Krypton. “This past year has been tough for us, Clark.”
Superman's feet hovered about half a foot off the ground. "I know, but not everyone gets to come back from the dead."
Then, Superman's gaze passed over Batman's shoulder and lightly glanced at the dark-haired young man who had just climbed out of the water.
“You must be the sorcerer who can resurrect,” Superman said, extending a hand to him. “I’ve heard your story from Batman.”
Wang Baixi was soaked to the bone, with water dripping from his hair that clung to his forehead, but he still couldn't help asking the question.
"You've heard my story."
“Your face tells a story.” Superman shook hands with him, then turned his head slightly and glanced at Batman.
"Isn't he a dangerous individual?"
"Me?" Wang Baixi pointed to himself blankly.
“Yes, it’s you,” Batman grunted.
Superman smiled and waved his hand, his body rising upwards again. "I remember you prepared a special plan to deal with these dangerous individuals?"
“No,” Batman said, looking at the Kryptonian who had risen above him, “that flawed plan is outdated.”
"What plan?" Wang Baixi looked at the two of them blankly.
Nightwing, who was standing nearby, leaned closer to Wang Baixi and explained with a smile, "Didn't you realize? Superman wants to recruit you into the Justice League."
"Ok?"
This is Batman's "plan"? It's basically a "pacification" scheme!
Wang Baixi's single "hmm" perfectly expressed his surprise, but not far away, Batman muttered something.
“If that’s really what he thinks, then I will exercise my veto power.”
Testimonials
I've been busy looking for internships and writing my thesis lately, so I've had almost no time to work on this book. I've been completely absorbed in writing. Looking at the comments, I see quite a few questions. Some are because the book is so old that it's difficult to revise, while others are genuine problems with the book itself.
One issue is the female lead. This book doesn't have a single female lead, but rather multiple female leads (no more than four). Some people believe that one of the female leads, Cassandra, is underage, so the male lead is a pedophile, which does raise a similar concern. However, Cassandra was already seventeen when she first appeared, so there's no need to worry. Therefore, if there is a romantic storyline between the two later on, it will definitely be set up so that Cassandra is already an adult.
Then there's the fact that the protagonist's abilities are poorly designed, and that the protagonist is a camera—I have to admit these are all problems stemming from the author's lack of writing skill. So, in the following chapters, I will strengthen the protagonist's initiative to ensure everyone is satisfied.
There are some opinions that I haven't been able to incorporate immediately, and I apologize for that. So I'm thinking that when I have more free time later, I could create a fan group where everyone can discuss the plot's direction, but that depends on whether enough readers are willing to join.
Meanwhile, regarding the updates to this book, although I am not writing full-time, I will gradually increase the update speed and word count, and try to update more and add more chapters.
Finally, I'd like to dedicate a friend's new book to those who love D&D rules and are interested in imaginative fantasy: *No Taste for Adventurers*.
Thanks for reading this far, meow~
Chapter Seventy: The Alliance of Justice
When Wang Baixi first stepped into the Justice League Watchtower, he had only one thought in his mind: How much did this place cost?
The teleportation itself took less than three seconds, and they arrived at the geosynchronous orbit space station located 22,300 miles above the ground from Gotham.
In Wang Baixi's subjective experience, it was as if he had been stuffed into a glowing straw and then blown to the other end by a giant.
He was now reluctantly following behind Batman, walking along the circular corridor towards the main conference hall.
Outside the portholes on both sides of the corridor is the unobstructed deep space, with the Earth quietly suspended to starboard.
“You should have told me beforehand that I was going to outer space,” Wang Baixi said. “I was just kidnapped yesterday and I’m going to space the next day. Hey, this wasn’t on my schedule.”
"Next time for sure," Batman said coldly.
It's rare to have everyone here today.
At that time, the Justice League was going through an unusual period compared to the norm.
With Superman and Batman both dying and coming back to life, the successive departures and returns of two core members are enough to throw any tightly organized group into chaos for the Justice League.
When they heard that Batman's resurrected being was an energetic young man, they became interested and wanted to meet him.
The meeting room doors slid open to both sides.
The overall decor here reminded Wang Baixi of Star Trek.
However, reality did not allow him to think too much. Several figures were already waiting for him, either sitting or standing, in front of the round table in the main conference hall of the watchtower.
Hmm, hopefully it's not the Seven.
First, he saw Superman, who was floating behind him by the window in a very relaxed posture, as if he were doing anti-fatigue training.
Immediately afterward, he looked to his right and saw Aquaman, the king of the seven seas who held a trident and was intently looking at the blue planet outside the porthole.
Then he saw the Flash, but not Barry Allen, but the third Flash, Wally West, who seemed to have noticed him too and immediately smiled back.
"Hey guys, Batman and his new partner are here."
"Walley." Batman opened his mouth in displeasure.
Wang Baixi was still looking around.
He saw Martian Manhunter Ron Jungs, whose green skin shimmered faintly in the ambient light of the conference room, and whose red eyes, as always, were gentle, contrasting sharply with his tall stature.
Next was Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, now with graying temples and a sorrowful expression. Wang Baixi didn't know why he had become like this, but Batman had told him before he arrived that after Superman's death, the alien monarch Mongo and the mechanical Superman had severely damaged his hometown, Seaside City, which had left him depressed to this day.
As for the only person he didn't see?
Without a doubt, it's Wonder Woman, Diana.
Wait a minute, who is that guy in the corner wearing a Robin Hood hat and sporting a golden beard?
“Green Arrow, why is he here?” Wang Baixi blurted out.
Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow, slowly turned his head.
No, I'm a member of the Justice League too!
"Do you know me?" Green Arrow said.
"of course."
"Then you should know why I'm here!"
He is the undisputed eighth member of the Justice League!
"Alright, stop joking. Wong, introduce yourself to everyone." Batman's words sounded like a parent forcing their child to perform in front of elders during Chinese New Year, but his tone was icy cold.
Wang Baixi smiled and walked to the conference table, pulled out an empty chair and sat down. He then introduced himself, "Everyone, my name is Wang Baixi. As you have heard, I am a sorcerer, a sorcerer who can bring the dead back to life."
"A guy who can resurrect is so cool!" the Flash exclaimed immediately. At the same time, his expression froze, and a thought flashed through his mind, but he didn't say it out loud.
