This was the only piece of information that Batman obtained during the bomb disposal process that was of any value.

He was about to stand up when he suddenly noticed a note sticking out from the back of the dismantled bomb casing. It seemed to be a clue left by the Joker. Batman picked it up, thinking that all the criminals in Gotham were becoming the Riddler...

On the note was a line of words written crookedly:

"Where do you go in with six feet and come out with two?"

Batman stared at the words and slowly crumpled the note into a ball.

The answer to this riddle, coming from the Joker, can only point to one place: Crime Alley. When Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne led eight-year-old Bruce Wayne into Crime Alley, they had six legs; when they came out, they only had two.

Could the Joker be there?

wrong.

Batman immediately rejected the idea. The Joker had first placed a pitiful man dressed in a fake Batman costume at the dock, and now he was leading him to Crime Alley. Wasn't this a diversionary tactic? Even if he got to Crime Alley, there would probably only be another hostage tied to a chair and suffering torture there.

But another name associated with Crime Alley came to mind: George.

George, the murderer who shot and killed Thomas and Martha in Crime Alley, the man who turned six legs into two.

Batman's heart sank.

Jochir is still in Blackgate prison. For a time, he visited him frequently, trying to find a definite reason for the shooting that he himself would believe, but Jochir always remained silent.

God knows why the Joker is making these hints now. Could he be involved too?

The moment this thought formed, a tiny pinhole suddenly popped out from the back of the bomb wreckage.

laugh

A pale green gas shot out from the needle hole, heading straight for Batman's face.

When he was defusing the bomb, he had already switched the breathing filter of his mask to the side to get a better view, so the poison gas directly entered his nasal cavity and mouth.

Batman's pupils suddenly contracted.

"Batman!" Tim burst in from outside.

"Don't come any closer and take that kid out." Batman braced himself with one hand on the ground, pressing the other tightly against his forehead. His body was trembling, but his voice remained clear. "Robin, take him away. Now."

Tim gritted his teeth, grabbed the still-stunned Jason Budd, and dragged him out of the container.

Batman pressed the communicator on his arm with all his might, and the signal traveled across half the city to the main control panel in the Batcave.

……

Inside the Bat Cave, Wang Baixi and the others were waiting idly for Bruce to return.

Suddenly, a piercing alarm sounded from the control panel, and an encrypted communication came from Bruce's side, appearing on the main console screen.

"Wang Baixi, are you still there?!"

"exist!"

"...I've been exposed to laughing gas and must halt operations temporarily. I need you to send someone to Blackgate Prison to find Joker! He's very likely the Joker's next target!"

"How are you feeling?" Wang Baixi asked in surprise.

Don't try to imitate Batman!

"I'm fine for now, I won't die..." Batman tried to calm his breathing.

Wang Baixi stood up, took the last sip of coffee, and tried to calm himself down. He looked at everyone.

"You all heard Batman, right? Now we need someone to go to Blackgate Prison and check Joachim's things. Anyone want to go?"

He had barely finished speaking when Zatana raised a hand. Cassandra took a step forward. Damian sprang up from the mat in the training area. "Holy crap! I can just climb over the wall!"

Tim had also reconnected the communications. While arranging Gordon's cleanup at the dock, he interjected, "I can get to Blackgate within thirty minutes."

Wang Baixi shrugged: "Hmm? Everyone wants to go? Fine, I'll use the old method again and send the people from the Court of Owls to scout ahead first."

After saying that, he dialed Kelvin Ross's number.

But Kelvin replied:

"Mr. Wang, I'm afraid that won't work."

"No? Why not?"

"Do you remember when the Court's underground headquarters, located beneath Blackgate Prison, was blown up? Back then, the Court was able to freely enter and exit Blackgate Prison through that underground passage. Now the passage has completely collapsed, and the entrance is blocked by rubble, so the Court's personnel cannot get in at all. Unless we arrange for the Court's senior officials to voluntarily reveal their identities, it is impossible for them to go in and search the files."

Wang Baixi remained silent for a moment.

“Alright, I’ll go myself. It’s not like it’s my first time at Blackgate Prison.” He didn’t change his gear, but simply straightened his civilian clothes.

Zatana looked him up and down, clearly noticing his relaxed demeanor. "Wait, Your Majesty? You're not just planning to walk over like this, are you?"

Jason Todd, who hadn't answered whether or not to go to Blackgate Prison, snorted softly, "Zatana, haven't you witnessed the power of the great Eastern mage? He doesn't need any protective gear. My king, am I right?"

“What nonsense are you spouting? Can’t you guys stop being so rigid in your thinking?” Wang Baixi spread his hands, looking completely matter-of-fact. “Do we really have to climb over the wall or launch a night raid? What a joke! I’m going to walk in through the front door openly and honestly as a representative of Wayne Group.”

Everyone looked at him at the same time and asked in unison, "...What?"

“I’ve already thought of a reason, and that is humanitarian concern,” Wang Baixi said confidently, “humanitarian concern for prison inmate Jochir.”

Chapter 145 As Expected

“Humanitarian care?” Jason Todd let out a rather unfriendly laugh. “Humanitarian care for criminals? That’s ridiculous.”

“Jason, you’re wrong about that.” Wang Baixi raised a finger and shook it. “Wayne Group donates millions of dollars worth of medical equipment to Blackgate Prison every year. It’s perfectly reasonable for me, as a representative of the group, to visit an elderly prisoner. That’s called corporate social responsibility, don’t you understand?”

Moreover, as far as he knew, Jochir was now seriously ill, and as a prisoner with a special status who had killed Bruce Wayne's parents, they should also visit him.

After saying that, Wang Baixi picked up his coat from the bench, put it on, and turned to look at Zatana and Cassandra.

"Zatana, Cassandra, you two come with me too."

"I'm going to do humanitarian care too?" Zatana rolled her eyes at Wang Baixi.

“Yes, partner of justice,” you should go too.

In contrast, Cassandra was very composed. She nodded quietly, picked up her mask from beside the control panel, and stuffed it into her backpack.

“What about me? What about me!” Damian jumped up.

"You? You should...you and Jason stay home and watch the house. Let us know if anything happens to Barbara."

“You want me to watch the house with him?” Jason and Damian spoke almost simultaneously, their levels of disdain equally matched.

“Yes, you two can take this opportunity to get to know each other better.” After saying that, Wang Baixi walked towards the garage, with Zatana and Cassandra following behind him, leaving Jason and Damian looking at each other in the Batcave.

"Hey kid, stay away from me." Jason broke the silence first.

“I should be the one saying that,” Damian said, crossing his arms.

……

Twenty minutes later, Wang Baixi picked out the most inconspicuous-looking black sedan from the garage of Wayne Manor. He sat in the driver's seat, Zatana in the passenger seat, and Cassandra in the back window seat.

Wang Baixi started the engine and slowly drove out of the gate along the driveway of the manor. He had driven less than twenty meters when a noise suddenly came from under the back seat.

Cassandra glanced down at the carpet at her feet, where something had bulged up from underneath. Then, the partition between the trunk and the back seats was kicked open from behind, and a head with messy hair squeezed out of the gap.

"Freedom!"

"Damian?!" Wang Baixi nearly swerved the steering wheel when he saw that head in the rearview mirror. "What are you doing here?!"

Damian crawled out from the gap in the partition, dusted himself off, and plopped down in the empty seat next to Cassandra, his expression as if he were one of the officially invited passengers.

"What's with that expression?" Damian met Wang Baixi's gaze in the rearview mirror. "My father was poisoned by laughing gas while capturing the clown, so of course I have to avenge him."

“Your father wants you to stay in the Bat Cave.” Zatana turned to look at him.

“There’s no obligation to obey!” Damian shook his head. “I was of no use in the Batcave except staring at that crowbar victim. I’d rather come out for a drive with you guys; that’s called optimizing resource allocation!”

His logic was so self-consistent that Wang Baixi couldn't find a reason to refute it for a while.

"You're quite self-aware," Wang Baixi said helplessly. "Anyway, I can't argue with you. If you die, your father better not cry and beg me to bring you back to life."

Wang Baixi abandoned the argument and refocused his attention on the road ahead.

……

Blackgate Prison is located on Blackgate Island in the southern part of Gotham Bay, which is to the north and south of Wayne Manor. The entire prison is built on a triangular rocky beach that juts out from the mouth of the bay. It is surrounded by the sea on three sides, and the only connection to the land is a stone bridge that is nearly 200 meters long. It looks like a fortress deliberately isolated from the world for the purpose of imprisonment.

Aside from the "Statue of Justice," which resembles a hybrid of the goddess of justice and the goddess of liberty, this important building remains on the island. During Bane's rampage, this place was bombed at least two or three times.

The Court of Owls clearly chose to build its underground headquarters directly beneath the prison for this very reason. After all, the only access to and from the prison is under the court's control; what could be safer than hiding your base right under everyone's noses?

However, the underground passage has now been destroyed, and the court's influence cannot reach inside the prison for the time being. They were only able to infiltrate it before because of Penguin's personal connections. Although Wang Baixi now has the support of most of the Penguin gang members, he does not have the same "tyranny" as Penguin.

Because there are still quite a few thugs in this prison who have grudges against the Wayne Group, or who were sent in when he was purging gang opposition.

So much so that today he could only obediently walk in through the main entrance.

The car stopped outside the prison gate. Wang Baixi rolled down the window and showed the prison guards in the guard post Wayne Group's identification and a pre-prepared visitation application form.

"Hello, I am Wang Baixi, a representative of Wayne Group. This afternoon, the group received an emergency transfer application from the prison medical department. The applicant is inmate Qiao Qier, whose number is KR-0773."

"As far as we know, his condition has deteriorated rapidly in the last 48 hours, and the medical conditions inside the prison are no longer sufficient to meet his treatment needs."

“I am here on behalf of Wayne Enterprises to assess his condition. If the situation is as described, the group will arrange for him to be transferred to Gotham General Hospital for treatment.”

Wang Baixi spoke with great conviction.

The prison guard carefully checked the documents and application form, then confirmed with the prison's administrative office via walkie-talkie before opening the gate.

"And who are these people over there...?"

"You should know Zatana, one of the representatives who participated in the visit, as well as one university student representative and one primary school student representative! People from all walks of life are very concerned about the human rights of prisoners."

Damian: "..."

"Alright then, please park your car in the visitor area after you go inside. Someone will then take you to the medical department," the prison guard said matter-of-factly.

"Thank you," Wang Baixi said politely.

The car drove along the road and stopped in the visitor parking area in the front square. Wang Baixi turned off the engine and got out of the car, followed by Zatana, Cassandra, and Damian.

A middle-aged woman in a prison guard uniform came up to them and led them through several electronic security gates toward the medical department.
