Blue smoke instantly spread out, completely enveloping Holm and Dr. Lizard. Dr. Lizard realized what it was and began to struggle anxiously.
He repeatedly tried to break free from the tentacles binding him, attempting to leave the mist, but each time he was forcibly dragged back by Holm.
At this moment, Holm was not aiming to cause much harm to Dr. Lizard; his intention in pestering him was simply to get him to take a few more sips of serum.
"Let me leave! You...! Damn it! Cough!"
As the serum entered his body, some of the special abilities that Dr. Lizard had just displayed in the battle gradually diminished, such as the slime that made it difficult for him to get stuck in the spider silk, and the scales that were as sharp and hard as knives.
Holm saw all these changes, but he still felt it wasn't fast enough.
So, with a thought, the tentacles that had been firmly binding Dr. Lizard suddenly grew black spikes, turning from smooth ropes into thorny brambles.
Meanwhile, a thick, sharp tentacle pierced Dr. Lizard's abdomen from Holm's chest. Like a clump of bound weeds, it quickly split apart after piercing Dr. Lizard's body, spreading out with countless sharp branches that tore Dr. Lizard's abdomen to shreds.
"Roar!!!" The intense pain caused Dr. Lizard to open his mouth wide and let out a painful and angry roar, which was exactly what Holm had been waiting for.
As Dr. Lizard opened his mouth, Holm's hand transformed into a sharp blade, instantly severing Dr. Lizard's jaw, while his other hand gripped a vial of serum and forcibly shoved it into Dr. Lizard's mouth.
"Bang!" With a punch from Holm, the vial of serum exploded as it was pushed deeper into Dr. Lizard's throat, and most of the blue smoke was instantly inhaled by Dr. Lizard.
"This is good stuff, don't waste it, give it a good lung treatment!" Holm said as he took out another vial of serum and stuffed it in, not giving Dr. Lizard a chance to catch his breath.
As a large amount of serum mist was inhaled, Dr. Lizard's body began to tremble continuously, and the dark green color on his body seemed to slowly fade away.
However, it's possible that Dr. Lizard injected himself with too much reagent, causing a qualitative change, or that the concentration of the aerosol was insufficient, resulting in an insignificant effect. Dr. Lizard's condition did not subside as quickly as Holm had expected.
But just then, the countdown of the Canary Equipment finally ended, and a mechanical electronic voice sounded.
"Countdown complete, program confirmed, device startup...!"
Chapter 48, You're the one who should regret it.
As the electronic sound rang out, a beam of eerie blue light suddenly shot into the sky, staining the entire area with that eerie blue hue.
Centered on the pillar of light, a cloud containing blue radiance also appeared and grew larger and larger.
It encompassed the few clouds that were already floating in the sky, and it slowly obscured the bright moon in the sky.
When the endless pale blue clouds had spread to the horizon, a light drizzle began to fall from the sky.
These raindrops already contained a high concentration of serum, and their effects were amplified by the Canary Islands device.
As the raindrops continued to fall, the lizardmen, whether they were hiding among the buildings, crawling around in a daze, or the lizardmen who had just been roaring and running wildly in the streets, all stopped abruptly as if struck by a pressure point. Then, like deflated balloons, they began to tremble and shrink smaller and smaller.
Under the influence of the serum, some reptilians gradually shed their lizard skin, their skin color became lighter and lighter, and the bestiality in their eyes gradually disappeared. When they raised their heads again in a daze, they had already turned back into humans covered in fragments of clothing, their memories still stuck on the time when the green mist spread all over the sky.
Some of the reptilians didn't lose much of their color, but their size kept shrinking until they eventually turned back into ordinary-sized lizards.
Unlike the lizardmen who turned back into humans, many of these lizardmen who were transformed from lizards became stiff and lifeless after being restored to their original state by the serum, turning into dead lizards.
After all, their vitality is not enough to support them to transform from lizards into lizardmen and then back to their original state. Their memories have always been hazy and confused, and even becoming lizardmen did not improve much. Being able to become lizardmen and wreak havoc for a time may be the biggest accident of their lives.
The lizardmen within the encirclement gradually began to return to their original state under the influence of the serum, while on the rooftop of Stark Tower, Dr. Lizard trembled and shrank under the spray of serum rain.
The high concentration of serum was much more effective than the aerosol directly poured into his mouth, and it achieved a far greater effect in just a short time.
As the scales on Dr. Lizard's body gradually softened and faded, and his size shrank, Holm withdrew his tentacles and firmly gripped Dr. Lizard's neck with just his left hand.
“You should be much easier to kill now.” Holm said as he transformed his right hand into a black blade and placed it on the neck of the lizard doctor, whose neck still had some scales remaining.
Dr. Lizard has now almost regressed from a monster back to a human form, and his abnormal regenerative abilities should have disappeared along with this regression. Therefore, Holm should be able to easily cut off his head now without worrying about a repeat of the previous situation.
"Beep beep beep! Beep beep beep!" Just then, the phone on Holm's body suddenly started ringing.
Sure enough, neither S.H.I.E.L.D. nor Hydra would let Dr. Lizard go, Holm thought to himself.
After the phone rang a few more times, Holm raised his right hand back to its original position, then took out the phone and held it to his ear to listen.
"This is Philin Coulson. Take control of the target. The helicopter is already on its way." A calm yet authoritative voice came from the phone.
......
"Ha! You still can't kill me, can you? As long as I have value, there will always be someone who's interested." Dr. Connors, leaning against the dilapidated elevator, said to Holm with a hint of sarcasm as Holm finished his call and put down his phone.
The marks of the remaining nail plates were still on his pale cheeks, and his eyes still had a pale yellow like a lizard's. These marks seemed to be a sequela, and although he had turned back into a human and returned to his one-armed state, they seemed to never fade away.
Upon hearing Dr. Connors's words, Holm looked down at him with the same mockery and disdain in his eyes.
"You don't think that taking you back means we'll treat you to the best food and drink, do you? If that's what you're thinking, I advise you to give up that idea now, otherwise I'm afraid the difference will be too much for you to handle."
At this point, Holm bent down and lowered his voice to Dr. Connors, saying, "Let me tell you a secret, the department I work for is a secret unit. Our main job is to handle various matters hidden 'below the surface'."
"What do you think your fate would be if you were taken away by a department like this?"
Upon hearing Holm's words, Dr. Connors' smile froze instantly, a bad feeling creeping into his heart.
Before he could speak, Holm continued, "Don't bother thinking about it, I can tell you directly."
"You will indeed be well taken care of by them, but not as an ordinary person, Kurt Connors, nor as a scientist, Dr. Connors, but as the lizard monster sample that has absorbed the most lizard reagent."
"There is no shortage of brilliant scientists there; you will only be used as a precious guinea pig to experiment on and verify their learning and new discoveries."
"You will personally experience what you have done to ordinary people, and much more."
"Your dignity as a human being will be stripped away, not to mention your proud identity as a scientist. Now you are left with only a monstrous body full of experimental value and a body full of sins."
"So, let's just live like this, worse than dead, until one day in the future we suddenly realize our mistakes, begin to repent for these sins, and begin to realize that we should have died long ago."
"But you will still be alive until then, and you will live in double the pain and torment."
"At that time, you might think back to now, and remember the smug look on your face when I didn't cut off your head. Then you'll realize that the one who should feel regret and remorse is not me, but you."
"Oh, and Martha too. Even if you die, you probably won't be able to reunite with her, since she's not in hell."
After saying this, Holm smiled and straightened up, watching as Dr. Connors' already pale face turned even paler.
The sound of helicopters was getting closer and closer in the distance.
“Kill me…kill me!” Dr. Connors yelled at Holm, “Let me die now…die now!”
Holm's words were like a sharp knife, piercing through his psychological defenses and jolting him awake from his smugness and excitement at surviving.
He desperately wanted Holm to attack him without hesitation, just like before, but Holm only looked at him coldly with a smile, as if he were looking at a dog wagging its tail and begging for mercy.
"I refuse," Holm said calmly. "I just said, you're the one who should regret it."
"Even if you try to kill yourself now, I will stop you. After all, my job is to keep you under control. Just accept your fate and add to my resume."
"That way, when I reach a higher level, I might send you a box of fresh insects to improve your diet."
Chapter 49, A Familiar Taste
Dr. Connors was eventually taken away, and as he left, he glared at Holm with his yellow eyes, repeatedly shouting for Holm to kill him.
He attempted to jump off the building as the helicopter was about to arrive, but was subsequently struck by Holm, who broke both his legs, leaving him unable to even crawl.
This change left Spider-Woman, who had watched the whole thing, somewhat bewildered. She couldn't understand what Holm had said to Dr. Lizard that made him so eager to die.
Faced with her question, Holm did not hide anything, and while helping her to the top of the stairs, he briefly relayed the information to her.
After listening, Gwen smiled wryly and said, "You can only scare him for a while."
Holm was taken aback by this, then said very seriously, "How did you know I was just trying to scare him?"
“How could that be true? He’ll probably be locked up in a special prison for criminals. I’ve dealt with some special criminals like that before,” Gwen said with experience.
Listening to Gwen's experienced perspective, Holm paused and then said, "But I'm telling the truth."
"Huh? Ah!" Gwen's eyes widened instantly beneath the mask.
"Hmm." Holm nodded again.
Gwen fell silent, suddenly unsure of what to say. Holm's words had stirred up complex emotions within her.
The thought that Dr. Lizard, who had caused so many deaths, would suffer a fate worse than death filled her with a sense of satisfaction and catharsis, but at the same time, she also had some inexplicable and complicated feelings, as if something was not quite right.
Before her chaotic thoughts could linger, Holm had already helped her sit on the steps, bringing her back to her senses.
"Your wound looks serious, we need to treat it quickly." Holm said, taking out a small bottle of styptic agent and a roll of bandage.
Hearing Holm's voice, Gwen finally turned her attention to the wound on her shoulder.
Blood was still seeping from there, staining the spider silk clinging to it red.
Gwen originally intended to go home and treat the wound herself, but seeing the current state of her wound and the tools Holm had already taken out, she didn't say much, just nodded and gritted her teeth.
This was the second time Holm had treated her wounds. Although they hadn't interacted much these past few times, there was a strange tacit understanding between them.
"Rip!" As Holm ripped the blood-soaked spider silk off, Gwen gritted her teeth and let out a muffled groan. For the first time, she wished that her spider silk wasn't sticky enough.
Tearing open the spider silk, several horrific wounds were revealed to Holm. These wounds were all made by Dr. Lizard's sharp claws, diagonally cutting from the shoulder to above the chest.
Fortunately, it hadn't reached his private parts yet, otherwise Holm would have been somewhat embarrassed.
"Bear with it, we still need to disinfect it." Holm said as he disinfected her wound.
Dr. Lizard's claws were very sharp, and these wounds were all quite deep. If one of them had been any deeper, it could have severed her collarbone.
After disinfection, a hemostatic agent was applied, and the pain during the application caused Gwen to tremble uncontrollably again.
Looking at the horrific wounds and Gwen's pained expression, Holm frowned slightly, as if deep in thought.
After carefully examining the wound, Holm realized that Gwen's injury was far more serious than she had thought. Simply stopping the bleeding and bandaging would only have a temporary effect; the wound would need to be stitched up for proper treatment.
Suddenly he remembered Venom's healing ability, so he slowed down his movements and began to communicate with Venom.
"Heal other people's wounds? I've never tried that before; I've only healed yours." Venom pondered for a moment when Holm asked if he could heal other people's wounds.
"But I think it's worth a try; I quite like her."
Hearing Venom's reply, Holm made up his mind and decided to give it a try.
At this moment, Gwen had no idea what Holm was thinking. She just watched as Holm's movements gradually slowed down, and then his eyes seemed to be in a daze.
Gwen didn't know what was wrong with Holm, but when she followed Holm's gaze to herself, she suddenly realized something, and then her body trembled, and she sat up in a fluster.
She was so focused on enduring the pain that she forgot her wound was above her chest. Although it didn't completely reach her private parts, it still made her feel somewhat embarrassed.
"Hiss!" Her sudden movement aggravated her wound, causing it to bleed again, even though the hemostatic agent had just helped to stop the bleeding.
Gwen's movements and voice brought Holm back to his senses. Seeing the situation, he quickly sprayed more hemostatic agent and then pressed the gauze on top.
"It seems that hemostatic agents alone are not enough; we also need to apply gauze." Holm said as he pulled out a large wad of gauze and pressed it firmly against Gwen's wound.
