"Why...why did he let me go?"
He was prepared to die, and fought to the last moment to preserve the Shang dynasty. He died from exhaustion, and thus the heavy karma between him and the Shang dynasty was finally put to rest.
But now, he has survived, but the dynasty has changed hands, the cause and effect are not yet cleared, and he owes that otherworldly saint an immense debt of gratitude for saving his life!
This debt of gratitude is far heavier than any previous cause and effect!
His expression was extremely complex. He stood there for a long time, like a petrified statue, before finally turning around slowly with a belly full of doubts and heaviness, and disappearing into the mountains with faltering steps.
On the palace terrace, Ying Zheng looked at Qin Chuan, a knowing smile playing on his lips:
"As insightful as ever."
Qin Chuan accepted the assessment calmly, his gaze still fixed on the direction Kong Xuan had left, and said indifferently:
"This peacock is easily swayed by gentleness, not force. Forcing him will only backfire. I'm letting him go today because of the life-saving grace, and because his own karma with the Yin Shang has been settled in a desperate battle, yet he still owes me a new debt... Given his nature of valuing karma and gratitude, his defenses have already cracked. When the time is right, he will come willingly."
Upon hearing this, Huo Linfei, Miao Tiaojun, and the others twitched at the corners of their mouths, recalling their own experience of being thoroughly "outsmarted" by Qin Chuan, and secretly grumbled to themselves:
"As expected, Hades' greatest strength has never been fighting, but his ability to control people's hearts... It's impossible to guard against!"
Having dealt with Kong Xuan's matter, Qin Chuan turned to face his old friends from all the heavens and myriad worlds in the hall, his expression becoming serious:
"This world is vast, full of countless opportunities. You may explore it on your own, broaden your horizons, and hone your skills. If you encounter disciples of the three religions, immortals, gods, demons, or monsters..."
He paused slightly, his tone carrying a hint of domineering:
"Don't hold back. Fight if you want, form bonds if you want. Just do as you please."
Seeing that there were still concerns in everyone's eyes, he added:
“Your roots in this world are all tied to me. Even if you perish in this world, your souls will return. I can reshape your bodies, so there is no need to worry about your safety.”
Upon hearing this, the last trace of concern in everyone's hearts vanished, replaced by boundless longing and excitement for this vast world of gods and demons!
"Haha! Finally, we can really get going!"
"Let's go! Let's see what the heavenly court of this world looks like!"
In an instant, the once bustling royal palace hall became empty, leaving only Qin Chuan and Ao Run, who had been standing by his side the whole time.
Just as Ao Run was about to ask his master what the next steps were, he saw Qin Chuan suddenly frown slightly, as if he had sensed something. But then that slight frown relaxed, and a smile even appeared on his lips.
“Interesting…” Qin Chuan muttered to himself, then looked at Ao Run, “Let’s go, come with me to see someone.”
Ao Run quickly replied, "Yes, Master. May I ask who this person is, that you have gone to their aid in person?"
Qin Chuan stepped out into the void, his voice carrying a hint of amusement: "A person as interesting as Kong Xuan."
Someone as interesting as Kong Xuan?!
Ao Run was shocked, his curiosity reaching its peak!
Kong Xuan was an unparalleled figure below the level of a sage. There were probably very few people in this world who could be on par with him, or even be described by their master as "equally interesting"!
Who will it be?
She dared not ask any more questions, and quickly transformed into a dragon, carrying Qin Chuan, and soared into the sky in the direction he indicated.
Chapter 18 An Interesting Monk
The news that the Immortal Qin Empire had swiftly replaced the Yin Shang Dynasty was like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, its ripples spreading rapidly to every corner of the four continents.
Even the Western Paradise, hidden in the void in the far west of Xiniuhe Continent, was alarmed by this enormous change.
Two saints sat facing each other beside the Eight Treasures Merit Pool, which was bathed in auspicious light.
The Guide Daoist's face was filled with sorrow, and his entire being emanated an aura of a grand vow to save all living beings. At this moment, he frowned slightly and sighed:
"An anomaly, an anomaly indeed. The arrival of this otherworldly sage has stirred up the secrets of heaven, causing the Shang Dynasty to perish suddenly and the Qin Dynasty to rise to power... The process of the Investiture of the Gods has been given endless new variables."
The Daoist Zhunti, standing to the side, held the Seven Treasures Tree, his expression relatively calm, his eyes gleaming with wisdom and calculation.
"Why worry so much, senior brother? He is just a saint from another world. His strength alone is not enough to overturn the whole situation. However, Kinnara's trip to the Kingdom of Brahma is related to his opportunity to attain enlightenment. If he can overcome this tribulation, our Western Sect will gain another great Luo protector."
The two saints' thoughts, without prior agreement, turned to the kingdom of Borneo, located on the edge of Jambudvipa and with a completely different faith.
This country was originally one of the eight hundred vassal states of the Shang Dynasty. Due to its remote location, its folk customs and beliefs formed their own system, with almost the entire population practicing Brahmanism.
Although the Celestial Empire was established, its influence had not yet fully penetrated this region. This provided Kinnara with a relatively closed environment for his missionary work, but it also meant that he would face the stubborn resistance of the deeply rooted Brahmanism.
In the capital city of Borneo, a private room on the second floor of an inn facing the street.
Qin Chuan sat by the window, holding a cup of sake, his gaze calmly looking down at the bustling yet strangely oppressive street below.
Ao Run transformed into human form and stood quietly to the side, occasionally refilling his wine glass while curiously observing this city with its diverse beliefs.
Suddenly, Qin Chuan's gaze sharpened and fell on an inconspicuous corner of the street.
A handsome young monk, dressed in plain white robes, with compassion and determination in his eyes, was stopping a shifty-looking man.
That monk was none other than Kinnara, a protector of the Western Sect and a cultivator at the half-step Great Luo level.
The man he stopped was A-Liu, a notorious thief and rogue in the royal city.
“Benefactor, it is inappropriate to commit such petty theft in broad daylight.”
Kinnara's voice was calm, yet it carried an undeniable power.
He had just witnessed Ah Liu skillfully cut open a pedestrian's purse.
Ah Liu was caught on the spot. He was startled at first, but when he saw that the other party was just an ordinary-looking monk, his courage immediately returned.
With his mortal eyes, he couldn't possibly discern Kinnara's true strength. He simply assumed it was some ignorant busybody and arrogantly retorted:
"You stinking monk! Which eye of yours saw me stealing? Mind your own business!"
Kinnara did not get angry, nor did he use his cultivation level to intimidate others; he still tried to persuade them with reason.
“Benefactor, the sea of suffering is boundless, but turning back is the shore. If you return the property now and apologize to the owner, this matter can be put to rest.”
"Admit a mistake? What mistake do I need to admit?"
Ah Liu became increasingly shameless, even turning to look at the victim who had been robbed and stood bewildered to the side, raising an eyebrow and provocatively saying:
"Hey! Tell me, did I steal anything from you?"
The victim was an honest and simple man. When he saw Ah Liu's fierce eyes and thought of Ah Liu's bad reputation and vengeful nature, he was so frightened that his face turned pale. His lips trembled a few times, and he didn't say a word. He lowered his head, pushed through the crowd, and quickly slipped away!
"Look! They all say they didn't steal it!"
Seeing this, A-Liu became even more smug. He spread his hands, sneered at Kinnara, and then swaggered away.
Kinnara stood there, watching A-Liu's departing figure, then looked in the direction where the victim had disappeared. For the first time, a helpless bitterness appeared on his handsome face.
Despite possessing the cultivation of a half-step Great Luo, he was unable to force people's hearts. Faced with such scoundrels and cowardice, he felt somewhat powerless for a moment.
He sighed softly, shook his head, and decided to find a place to stay first, and then make further plans.
His gaze swept across the street before he entered the inn where Qin Chuan was staying.
As soon as I stepped into the inn, a calm voice came from the second floor:
"It is fate that we meet. Master, you have traveled a long way. Why don't you come up and have a drink with me and rest for a while?"
Kinnara looked up and saw a young man in black robes sitting by the window, with a profound and unassuming demeanor, seemingly one with the surrounding world.
He felt a slight chill in his heart. With his half-step Great Luo spiritual sense, he couldn't see through the other party's strength at all. He only felt that the other party's aura was as deep as the ancient starry sky. It was very likely that the Great Luo giant was hiding his tracks!
He dared not be negligent, put his hands together in prayer, and softly chanted a Buddhist prayer:
“Amitabha. I appreciate your kindness, benefactor. However, monks are bound by strict precepts and cannot drink alcohol. I hope you will understand.”
He was respectful in his manner, yet he adhered strictly to the precepts.
Hearing this, Ao Run couldn't help but roll her eyes charmingly, secretly feeling dissatisfied:
"The sage himself invited him to drink, and he dared to refuse? He really doesn't know what's good for him! When he finds out who the host is, he'll regret it to death."
Qin Chuan, however, didn't seem to care and smiled slightly.
"It's alright, Master, you can simply drink tea instead of wine."
Seeing that the other party had an extraordinary demeanor and seemed to have no ill intentions, Kinnara stopped refusing and went upstairs to sit down, drinking tea and wine with Qin Chuan.
After a round of drinks, Qin Chuan suddenly opened his hand, and in his palm was a tiny figure about an inch tall, looking around in terror. Who else could it be but Ah Liu?
Kinnara's expression changed drastically. He hadn't even noticed when the other party had captured and shrunk A-Liu!
Qin Chuan remained calm, as if recounting a trivial matter:
"This man is named A-Liu. His family has been thieves for three generations. In this city of Brahma, nine out of ten households have been robbed by him. There is an unwritten rule here: if you are robbed by him, you should swallow your anger and pay up to avoid trouble, and he will only steal from you once. If anyone dares to report it to the authorities or, like the master, testify in person, he will anger you and come to steal from you every day until your family is ruined and you have no peace."
Upon hearing this, Kinnara suddenly realized why the aggrieved party had preferred to suffer in silence rather than point out the wrongdoing!
This is not simply cowardice, but stems from a deeper level of fear and helplessness.
Qin Chuan placed the shrunken A Liu on the table and said to Kinnara:
"This person is to be dealt with by the master."
Ah Liu was already terrified out of his wits, repeatedly kowtowing on the table, crying and begging for mercy:
"Master, spare me! Master, spare me! I will never dare to do it again! I swear, I will turn over a new leaf and never steal again!"
Looking at that tiny figure filled with fear and pleading, Kinnara's eyes flashed with a hint of pity.
He was ultimately compassionate. After a moment of contemplation, he sighed and waved his sleeve, sending a gentle ray of Buddhist light across the room.
A-Liu, who had been sitting on the table, instantly returned to his original state, slumped onto the inn floor, looked around blankly, then realized what was happening, bowed deeply to Kinnara, and swore an oath:
"Thank you so much, Master, for sparing my life! Thank you so much, Master! I, A-Liu, swear to Heaven that from this day forward, I will abandon evil and do good. If I ever steal again, may I be struck by lightning and die a horrible death!"
Watching A-Liu tumble and crawl away, filled with gratitude, Kinnara finally showed a relieved smile. He believed that human nature is inherently good, and that as long as one is given a chance, those who have gone astray will eventually see the light and return to the right path.
"Master, is your purpose in coming here to spread your faith?"
Qin Chuan took a sip of wine and asked casually.
Kinnara's heart skipped a beat; the other party had seen through his purpose in a single sentence.
He readily admitted it, clasping his hands together in prayer:
“Your wisdom is evident, benefactor. This humble monk Kinnara is indeed a disciple of the Western Religion. I have come to the Kingdom of Borneo on the orders of the Religion Master to spread the Dharma of compassion and to deliver all sentient beings in this land.”
Qin Chuan nodded, his gaze seemingly able to pierce through the void and see the stubborn and exclusive power of Brahmanical faith that shrouded the royal city.
