Qianhu stood by the bridge railing adjusting the camera, "Hmm, this is automatic shutter, this is focus..."
"Xiaoqian, did you find something?" Yuri asked, somewhat puzzled, as she seemed to have heard of these things before.
“There’s nothing here, Senju. We’re about to set off,” Sento said, getting into the driver’s seat. Senju then pushed the stone statue over and got into the car as well.
After the two were seated, Qianhu adjusted the car and continued driving forward, never looking back, but carefully watching the road ahead.
Yuri initially glared angrily at Chito, but after a while she gave up and lay there slowly trying to recall what had happened last night and why the camera had turned out this way.
Then, Senju watched her expression change, sometimes happy, sometimes troubled, looking thoughtful, before turning into a languid state and lying there, no longer changing.
"Well, whatever, Chihiro knows how anyway, I'll learn from her later," Yuri thought for a while and then started to slack off.
After looking at Yuri's meme, Senju sat down and began to observe the surrounding buildings. He no longer had the desire to sleep and just wanted to see the features of this building.
This building is different from the previous ones. It consists of countless floors stacked together to form a row of buildings, and the two rows of buildings are connected by bridges going up or down. Each floor of the row of buildings has a road on one side, and you can often see strange stone statues of all sizes along the roadside.
Senju and his companions slowly approached the glowing building they had seen the night before, navigating these bridges and roads. However, after wandering along these bridges and roads for several hours, they decided to stop and rest.
After Senju stopped on the road next to a building, the three of them found a step by the roadside and sat down to rest. Senju took out a stove to boil water and then took out several packets of dry food to distribute to everyone.
Behind these steps, there is a familiar stone statue. It seems that the people in this area are very enthusiastic about building such statues. However, Senju knows that they are just made of concrete, so he is too lazy to remove them.
“If we keep going like this, we’ll reach that glowing building soon,” Yuri said, looking at the building in the distance as she ate her food and estimating the distance.
"Hmm," Chito replied, chewing on his food, and then picked up his camera to look at the pictures. "You really took a lot of pictures, didn't you? You're such an idiot."
Yuri turned her head and glared angrily at Qianhu, "Are you still angry?"
"I didn't," Chito pulled up the photos Yuri had taken and looked at them. Senju also looked at them. After scrolling through a few photos, the two of them found that there were many photos of stone statues. The basic shapes were all similar, but the decorations on their heads were different.
"You, you've taken too many pictures of strange stone statues."
"Isn't it fine? It's not like we'll lose a piece of our flesh," Yuri said nonchalantly, even though Chihiro hadn't said anything when they took photos before.
“No, it will decrease. Look at this,” Qianhu pointed to a string of numbers at the bottom of the camera screen. “Here, every time you take a picture, it decreases by one.”
"No way, how many more photos can we take?" Yuri also came over to take a look.
“Five hundred and twenty thousand,” the commander pondered for a moment, somewhat puzzled by the number’s significance, and then asked the man beside him, “How many days will the remaining food last?”
"Hmm, the current food reserves are enough for the three of us to eat for fifty days, but we can replenish them at any time." After calculating for a while, Senju found that there was still a lot of food left in the package. Yuri's eyes lit up after hearing this. "Senju, secretly share some with me later."
“You still have two or three days’ worth of food in your bag,” Senju said, somewhat speechless, but Yuri stuck out her tongue and smiled, “It’s all gone.”
"Yuri, you've been stealing food again. From now on, your food will be kept here with me," Chito scolded Yuri sternly for a while before confiscating the food from her bag. However, after comparing the number of photos, he sighed, "So the photos won't run out before the food."
"No, Qian, I saved those for later."
"Stop messing around, we need to save some food."
"Oh," Yuri said, a little disappointed. She picked up the empty food bag and stared at it. She seemed to be very sensitive to everything about food, and she could even read the words on it. "This one is cheese flavored today. Chihiro, do you know what that is?"
"What exactly is cheese? Do you know, Senju?" Chito asked Senju.
"It sounds familiar, but I don't really know what it is. Oh, it's just cheese. It feels a bit strange."
"Ah, so Senju didn't know either. Then no one else will know either."
The group slowly began to eat. After a while, Yuri finished eating and lay down on the back table with some emotion, saying, "It's unbelievable that once you eat something, it's gone."
Then he looked at the camera and said, "Things like these can be preserved forever. Who knows when this city will collapse and the statues will crumble? It's nice to preserve them in photos like this."
Chito and Senju stared blankly at Yuri lying beside them, lost in thought. Her words had a great impact on them; they couldn't believe that Yuri, who often acted foolishly, was spouting such profound wisdom.
After picking up the camera, Qianhu adjusted it. "Hmm, I remember it's like this. Turn it around, and it'll be fine."
After she had Senju and Yuri stand in the correct positions, she placed the camera on a table opposite them and adjusted it, saying, "Don't move."
Then she ran between the two of them and stood there. The camera opposite them started beeping, and after a while, a soft sound came from it.
Chito then took the camera back, and the two people next to him also went over to look. Inside was a group photo of the three of them, which reminded Yuri of her old camera, which also held many memories. However, she had given it away to Kanazawa so easily, and now she regretted it. She would definitely take it back when she saw it in the future.
"Yuri, what are you daydreaming about? We're about to leave," Chito and Senju said as Yuri was lost in thought, as they packed their things into the car and prepared to continue their journey.
"Ah, it's nothing," Yuri snapped out of her daze and ran onto the train carriage.
After traveling through many roads, the three finally found the entrance to the building.
Chapter 47 The Temple of the Three Gods
After wandering around for a long time, Senju and his companions finally found the building that emitted a strong light at night. However, it was daytime now, and the light had disappeared. Nevertheless, its unique shape made it clear that this was the place.
From a distance, the entire building appears as a giant cube-shaped box, supported by numerous pillars that keep it suspended in mid-air. Only a long bridge connects it to the entrance, and the depth of the bridge and the building's pillars is unknown.
Qianhu carefully drove the car across the bridge and arrived at the entrance of the building, but the huge stone gate that should have been there had been reduced to fragments and lay to one side.
Upon arriving at the entrance, the three looked inside. It was pitch black. Qianhu hesitated for a moment, "That brightest building must be here."
"The design is so unique, this must be the place. Shall we go in and take a look?" Senju asked.
Looking around, I realized it was already evening.
"Well, since we're here, let's go in and take a look," Qianhu said, and began to pack the things she needed into her backpack. After packing her backpack, she took out a fuel lamp that she hadn't used in a long time, intending to use it for lighting.
Seeing that the two of them were carrying large bags, Senju felt a little embarrassed and wanted to help them carry them, but the two of them said that the bags were very light and contained only some food and water, so Senju didn't need to worry.
After tidying up, the three of them began to explore inside. Although there was still sunlight outside, it became dark after they had only taken a few steps inside.
“It looks bright at night,” Chito said, and Yuri followed up, “but it’s so dark inside.”
Qianhu lit the lamp in his hand, but it only illuminated a small area nearby. The surroundings were still dark, but he could still see a long passage under his feet, with two rows of tall stone statues standing in the dark abyss on both sides.
"Wow, this is huge! What kind of facility is this?" Yuri stared blankly at the stone statues by the roadside. Senju also looked at these strange stone statues in surprise. Could this be a stone statue museum? The people here have such peculiar tastes.
After walking for a while, the three of them found that the ground beneath their feet had turned into steps leading upwards. Yuri looked at both sides and said, "There are so many tall stone statues."
“Those stone statues...maybe this place is like a temple,” Chito guessed. Senju thought her guess might be right, but she had seen real temples before and had no idea this place was a temple.
"Temple?" Yuri clearly didn't understand the meaning of the word, while the first person, Chitoge, gave the answer she had read in a book: "Where gods exist, these stone statues are probably like gods."
"God—what is God?" Yuri realized she had heard a new term again, but Senju didn't care at all. Even if there were gods, they wouldn't protect people nowadays.
"So-called God is—, what was it again?" Chito was completely at a loss for words, which was originally full of supplication.
Of course, Senju felt he could come up with several explanations, but these were meaningless to the three people present, so he simply followed silently behind them.
The upward steps soon came to an end, where a stone tablet stood, surrounded by a wide, flat area.
After the three of them walked over, they saw many patterns and words on it. However, Senju did not recognize any of these words. Sengo brought the lamp closer and began to observe it carefully.
"Hmm, there seems to be something written here. It was built 400 years ago and is dedicated to three gods..."
"Sigh, it really is a temple or something," Yuri said, somewhat disappointed with the result, without any surprise.
Chito continued reading, “The Pure Land of Bliss, this temple seems to have been built to recreate that world.”
“Paradise…” Yuri recalled the word, which was used when she was taking a bath. Senju was also interested in the contents, so she moved closer to Chito to listen to her read it aloud.
"There's something written here about God. God is the one who illuminates the afterlife. Hmm, it's a little hard to see."
Just as Yuri was about to come over and take a look, the light in Chito's hand went out, and the surroundings became pitch black.
Chiho's voice came from the darkness; she seemed a little dazed. "Oh dear, did I forget to add fuel?"
"Hey, Chihiro?" Yuri's voice came from the side. "Chihiro, where are you?"
"You, I'm over here."
Which way?
"Everyone, don't move yet," Senju said, searching for torches in his pack. Just as he was searching, he felt someone bump into him from behind, making a crisp clanging sound against his armor. Then he felt someone walk into his arms. "Yuri, Senju, is that you?"
Then Senju felt a hand grab her from behind, and Yuri's voice came from behind, "This hardness, Senju, is that you?"
After grabbing Chihiro in front, Senju planted the torch to the side. Then, she saw the three of them huddled together. Yuri was behind her, holding onto herself, while Chihiro, who had somehow retreated there, was in front.
Just as the three of them were wondering what to say, a blinding light suddenly shone from the side. "It's getting brighter."
A patch of lush green lotus leaves appeared nearby, with some pink lotus flowers in the middle. The entire pond radiated light, bringing a sense of tranquility to the viewer.
Everyone stared blankly at the scenery on one side. Under the strong light, there were three huge stone statues, with many rings floating around them. Below the statues was a pond filled with lotus leaves and flowers.
"An existence that illuminates the world," several people recalled Chito's words from earlier.
"Is everyone alright?" Seeing the blinding light, Senju put away the torch on one side. The two people next to him also realized what was happening and began to look around.
The group walked to the lotus pond, and Qianhu asked with some confusion about the plants, "What kind of plants are these?"
“These are lotus leaves, and those are lotus flowers,” Senju thought for a moment and then guessed, “There should also be lotus roots below, probably symbolizing the three gods.”
"Even the floor is glowing!" Yuri then noticed the anomaly on the ground and ran into the pool, but she...
He didn't fall into the water; instead, he stood on the surface.
"It's probably a reflection," Chito carefully walked into the pond, only to find that it wasn't water. He touched a lotus leaf and asked, "Is this a model of a plant?"
Senju touched the lotus leaves around him, feeling a cool, smooth sensation. Chito touched a lotus flower and asked with some doubt, "Is it made of metal?"
"Everyone, look, look!" Yuri pointed to an open space at their feet. The two looked over with some confusion. "What is it?"
Chapter 48 Whose Idea is the Most Brilliant?
“There’s a fish!” Yuri pointed to the ground where a koi carp was frozen in the transparent glass beneath her feet. Chito and Senju looked at it and said, “This is a model too, right?”
"Model..." Yuri was still a little dazed. "Does that mean it's edible too?"
“Look at reality,” Qianhu went over and touched the ‘water’s surface. “I’m sealed inside the glass, just like I’m in water.”
"This is so boring, God is so uninteresting," Yuri complained about the inedible things around her, then looked up at the stone statue next to her. "Isn't this just a simple stone statue?"
“You’ll get your comeuppance for talking so carelessly,” Chito said, taking pictures of the statues. Yuri muttered to herself, “But we bumped into the statues when we came here, right?”
Qianhu said nonchalantly, "It's probably just an ordinary stone statue."
"It really is just a stone statue."
After taking a few more photos, Chito placed her bag on a platform under a stone statue. Yuri followed suit and placed her bag next to it. Then, Chito took out food and water from her bag, and the three of them leaned against the stone statue and ate.
"It's quite a unique experience to look at the world while eating solid food," Chito said with great interest, observing the surrounding scenery.
“It’s delicious,” Yuri said, but she wasn’t very interested in the scenery. “But I still don’t understand. No matter how magnificent a god is, it’s still a fake, right? Is it really necessary to make something so big and complicated? Nobody knows what the afterlife is like.”
“You must have felt it in the darkness just now. That world must have been pitch black and you couldn’t see anything,” Qianhu thought for a moment. “They probably didn’t want to feel that way, so they built these stone statues and lit them up with lights to make themselves feel at ease.”
"Do I feel at ease? In that darkness, I felt more at ease the moment I found everyone," Yuri suddenly drifted into a reverie, "Could it be that Senju and Senju are actually gods?"
“Yuri, you finally figured it out! You have to offer food to the gods,” Chito joked with Yuri, reaching out to grab her food. Senju watched the two playing around and chuckled softly. “Gods? There are just three people here.”
