"This is a C-level exchange mission. Come in."
The door was pushed open, and before anyone even entered, a strong smell of alcohol wafted in.
A disheveled old man walked in, holding a bottle of liquor in his hand, his eyes glazed over.
"Is this the bunch of kids?"
Tazuna looked down on the members of Team 7; they were all immature kids. How could such people protect her and help her return to the Land of Waves?
"You bastard, don't look down on me. I, Naruto Uzumaki, am going to be the Hokage someday."
Tazuna was somewhat apprehensive. He had heard narration in other parts of the Land of Fire before, but this was the first time it involved him personally.
Naruto and Sakura laughed inwardly. They never expected that the slovenly old man would be afraid. They thought he was some great figure, but he's just a coward.
Dazner took a swig of his drink, his thick glasses reflecting the sunlight, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking.
"Your mission is to protect Mr. Tazuna until the bridge to the Land of Waves is completed."
The Third Hokage didn't want Team 7 to stay a minute longer. The narrator had somehow revealed some secrets again, and there were outsiders in the room now; they would have no choice but to...
The Third Hokage glanced at Tazuna, making Tazuna tremble with fear, almost thinking he was about to die.
"Haha, let's hurry up and get going, it's getting late."
Tazuna was terrified by the Third Hokage's words and just wanted to leave the room as soon as possible. The narration was too frightening; if certain secrets were revealed, he would only face death.
“Mr. Tazuna is joking. Konoha ninjas never joke with their employers’ lives. Now that you’ve come to Konoha, your life will be guaranteed.”
"The Hokage is right. Shouldn't we set off now?"
The Third Hokage nodded and said, "Kakashi, thank you for your hard work this time."
"Grandpa of the third generation, and me too. Last time I took care of a lot of bandits in one go. Sending that slovenly uncle home was a piece of cake."
“My name is Tazna, you little dwarf.”
"You can go out now. Kakashi, lead them and set off."
"Yes."
A group of six people filed out.
Tazuna breathed a sigh of relief as she left Konoha, unaware that danger was drawing ever closer; someone who wanted to kill her had already infiltrated the Land of Fire.
The seventh class stopped in their tracks at the same time.
[Ku glanced at Tazuna, surprised that the old man had been withholding information. This mission was probably more complex than just building a bridge.]
Kakashi's expression turned serious. He said, "Mr. Tazuna, I hope you tell the truth. If the intelligence is wrong, there could be casualties."
Naruto and Sasuke were secretly delighted. Finally, a challenging mission had arrived, a perfect opportunity to test their training results.
Tazuna's expression turned grim. He had originally planned to slip through the cracks and deal with things once they reached the Land of Waves, but he hadn't expected to be exposed so soon after leaving Konoha. What kind of narrator is this? He's a real jerk.
[Tatsuna certainly didn't want to say that he was being targeted by Gato, the world's richest man, who, for his own benefit, disagreed with the construction of the bridge in the Land of Waves.]
"Kakashi-sensei, do you know Gato?"
Naruto is more inclined to complete missions, and he finally received a relatively difficult one.
Sasuke and Sora were also somewhat excited. Sora had recently developed a new type of smoke bomb and was looking for someone to test its power; the mission was just the right time.
Kakashi was speechless and said, "I know. Gato is a world-famous tycoon with a great influence in the world. This is not a C-rank mission. It is fully qualified to be considered a B-rank mission."
"Gato must have excellent ninjas around him. Are you sure you want to continue the mission? It could lead to deaths."
Sakura was trembling with fear. This time was different from last time; the enemy wasn't bandits, but possibly ninjas.
Kakashi is facing a choice. Apart from Sakura, no one wants to return. D-rank missions are like waiting to die; they won't go through a dramatic battle unless they fight a real fight.
Kakashi glanced at the three of them, nodded, and said, "You can continue, but I will stop the mission immediately if we encounter any danger beyond our limits."
Chapter Twenty-Five: Ghost Brothers
"Be careful with your disguise. Kakashi's team is almost here. Eliminate Kakashi first, and the remaining four brats will be easy to catch."
The Demon Brothers seem to underestimate Kakashi; they are full of confidence in defeating him.
[Copy Ninja Kakashi, Sharingan Kakashi, this is a ninja who has made a name for himself in the ninja world, not someone that two minor characters can handle.]
"Who's there? Come out."
The ghost brothers' deep roars echoed through the woods, and a sharp metal weapon pierced through a large tree by the roadside.
"Killing Tazuna is the priority. I've heard before that something strange called 'Narration' seems to have appeared in the Land of Fire."
The ghost brothers moved away from the tree that had been pierced earlier and created a puddle in a depression, hiding inside it.
[What idiots! It hasn't rained for days, and they actually tried to hide in the water. Kakashi could have seen through them at a glance.]
"Shut up, or I'll kill you."
The narrator is everywhere, yet nowhere at all. Many want to find the narrator, and countless others want to kill him. If you can find the narrator, he will acknowledge you as the strongest ninja in the world.
"How has the Land of Fire tolerated this existence until now? How come Konoha Village, with its strength, can't find the source of the narration?"
"Hmph, covering the Land of Fire, that kind of technique is not something a ninja can do. Ignore him, continue to hide, and wait for Tazuna."
"With this guy around, how could anyone possibly hide?"
"Quiet down, stop talking now. You've already given us away before the narrator has even revealed us."
The forest road gradually fell silent, and the narrator's voice ceased to be heard.
The ghost brothers exchanged glances, gaining a preliminary understanding of the narration.
Light footsteps sounded, and six figures appeared on the main road.
Kong spotted the puddle ahead at a glance; the Ghost Brother really hasn't improved at all.
Sasuke looked at the puddle with suspicion. It hadn't rained for days, so why was there still water? Could someone be hiding in it?
"Haha, how could that be? A person can't hide in such a small puddle. Sasuke, are you being too nervous?"
"Kakashi-sensei, when are you going to teach us ninjutsu? I can't wait!" Naruto shouted.
Kakashi was speechless. He wondered what Naruto had learned at the Ninja Academy. Naruto had absolutely no sense of reconnaissance. Ninjas are supposed to gather intelligence about their surroundings at all times.
Naruto appeared to agree, but in reality, he didn't understand Kakashi's words at all. He was just pretending to understand so that others wouldn't see that he was a bit silly.
"Hmph, I'm not stupid. Narrator, you're just talking nonsense. You're a coward who only knows how to hide. If you dare to show yourself, I'll beat you up."
Kong slapped Naruto on the back of the head and said, "Don't get your hopes up. We've searched the entire Hidden Leaf Village and haven't found it. It would be scary if the narrator actually appeared."
Kakashi wholeheartedly agreed. The thought of someone who knows the past, present, and future of the ninja world is terrifying. No one has any secrets from a narrator.
"Kakashi-sensei is right. The narration is just an unconscious program and does not pose any direct harm. It just exposes some schemers."
If the narrator were a conscious being, the entire ninja world would likely descend into chaos and never be peaceful again.
The group calmly walked through the puddle, and Kakashi glanced at it before continuing onward.
A smoke grenade appeared in Kong's hand; it was an enhanced pepper spray grenade. He casually tossed it into a puddle and quickly took out a gas mask and put it on.
The smoke bomb floated on the water's surface and slowly melted.
Sakura looked at Sora's strange appearance and said, "Sora, why are you wearing a mask? There's no poison gas here."
"It will be available soon."
Kong suddenly paused, forgetting that the two brothers were wearing gas masks; it seemed he had wasted an enhanced pepper spray.
A figure emerged from the calm puddle, landing directly on the smoke grenade.
"Boom."
The light red smoke grenade exploded instantly upon contact with an external force, and the red smoke enveloped a radius of more than ten meters around the puddle.
All five members of the team turned around, except for Tazna, who still looked completely bewildered.
A chain swiftly emerged from within, binding Kakashi and crushing him to pieces in the blink of an eye.
The smoke grenades were indeed much less effective, as they were blocked by the gas masks.
The Demon Brothers' confidence soared. They never expected that the renowned Kakashi was all show and no substance, losing in just one round.
Hidden in the forest, Kakashi rolled his eyes and mentally crossed out the Demon Brothers.
"Kakashi-sensei."
Naruto and Sakura were a little stunned; Kakashi-sensei hadn't even lasted a single round!
[I glanced at it briefly. As expected of Kakashi-sensei, his acting was superb; he fooled a bunch of idiots.]
The chains came crashing down on Naruto again, and Sora kicked him in the backside, saying, "You're with Sakura to protect the employer. Without him, the mission would have failed."
Naruto snapped out of his daze, drew his kunai, and stood ready in front of Tazuna.
The heavy chains crashed to the ground, then swung up again, heading towards the empty space.
"Die, you brat."
The Demon Brothers were furious. How dare this brat, barely out of his teens, block their way? If Lord Zabuza knew, he'd probably laugh at them.
Kakashi, hidden in the forest, narrowed his eyes slightly. He had heard of Zabuza's name, the former Demon of the Hidden Mist, now the rogue ninja Zabuza.
The Demon Brothers were completely dumbfounded. Kakashi the Copy Ninja was still alive! Who were they killing before?
"Now is not the time to let your mind wander. They dare not concentrate when they are trying to ambush our Konoha ninjas. They are just asking for death."
Kong suddenly appeared in front of one of them, his hand forming a claw, and suddenly scooped down.
I grabbed two soft, spherical objects and applied force with my palm, feeling as if I were crushing eggs.
"Ow."
A scream pierced the sky, and intense pain came from below one of the ghost brothers. Cold sweat poured down his back, his body convulsed, and he slowly curled up on the ground, rolling back and forth.
The younger brother knew his life was over; his greatest joy was gone. Physical pain could be healed, but the pain in his heart would accompany him for the rest of his life.
[The ghost brother felt a chill down below, followed by a faint pain, and a barely perceptible urge to urinate.]
A sharp iron hand sliced through the air, its metallic edge gleaming.
