Rena showed Kyoko the flywheel in the drawer. Kyoko was her best friend, so Rena wouldn't hide it from her.
"This is... a hamster?" Kyoko asked in surprise. "Rena, why did you bring a hamster here? If the teacher finds out, we're in big trouble."
"Shh, keep your voice down!" Rena said, as Kyoko's voice was a bit loud.
The math teacher on stage frowned and said with displeasure, "Rena, what are you saying that you seem so happy about? Why don't you come up on stage and share with everyone?" He assumed Rena wanted to talk to Kyoko.
Seeing that everyone was looking at her, Rena lowered her head and quietly put the cloth bag back.
The math teacher said, "We were just talking about whether to move the bad students to the last desk so they can sit alone. Aren't they afraid of disturbing Lin Xin by talking all the time?"
Rena pursed her lips and lowered her head, not daring to utter a sound.
At the next table, Chen Mingzhen and her friends whispered and mimicked the teacher's speech, pointing and whispering at Reina.
Kyoko felt sad, thinking that she was the one who caused Rena to be criticized by the teacher.
"If you talk again, I'll move you to the back! There are other ambitious students who want to sit with Lin Xin!" the math teacher said, adding a few more words before finally stopping: "Alright, let's begin the lesson."
The math teacher was explaining today's lesson and writing on the blackboard. During this break, Kyoko apologized to Rena: "I'm sorry, I was talking too loudly and made you get scolded by the teacher."
Rena shook her head: "It's okay, I was the one who wanted to talk to you." She forced a smile: "Pay attention in class."
Chen Mingzhen deliberately shouted, "The teacher just scolded you, and you're still not listening and talking!" They and Reina didn't get along.
"Did your dad send you to school just so you could talk in class?" Zhu Ke said. They were poor students, yet they could still say such things.
Rena clenched her fists, extremely angry. The mere mention of Itsuki had pushed her to her limit.
"How can you say such things? Aren't you disgusted?" Kyoko said, their faces were truly repulsive. She patted Rena's hand, comforting her not to be angry.
Zhu Ke shouted, "Mind your own business! Did I say anything to you?!"
The shouting was a bit too loud, and the math teacher angrily said, "Zhu Ke, what are you all shouting about!" She was very angry that they dared to be so presumptuous in her class.
After being yelled at by the math teacher, Zhu Ke lowered her head sullenly and glared resentfully at Xingzi.
"Ignore them," Xingzi said softly. "They're clearly bad students, yet they take pleasure in making fun of others and trying to drag them down. It's so boring and disgusting."
Rena clenched her fists, lowered her head, and asked Kyoko a question: "Kyoko, am I also a bad student?"
Kyoko was taken aback and asked curiously, "Why did Rena ask that?"
“Because one time they were yelling at me, the math teacher scolded both of them and me, saying, ‘Why don’t they yell at the good students? Why do they have to yell at you? It’s because you don’t pay attention in class and your grades are bad,’” Rena said.
Kyoko pursed her lips, took Rena's hand, and said, "It's different. Rena is different from them. If you don't want to be looked down upon by the teacher, then study hard and prove her wrong."
Rena seemed to be influenced by Kyoko's words and gave a heavy "hmm".
Kyoko smiled and said, "Let's listen carefully to the lesson."
Chapter Ninety-Eight Cang Wei
After class, Rena showed the hamster in the bag to Kyoko.
The hamster is chubby and snow-white, like a white ball of fluff. It blinks its adorable big eyes and squeaks.
"So cute!" Anzu exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. Girls have no resistance to cute things.
Xingzi reached out her index finger and rubbed it against the hamster's cheek.
"It feels so soft!" Xingzi exclaimed excitedly.
Flywheel was very clever; it rubbed its little head against Apricot's fingers in an ingratiating way.
"Hehe, it tickles! The little hamster is so cute," Kyoko laughed, then asked Rena, "Does the hamster have a name?"
“Of course there is, it’s called the Hamster Wheel,” Rena said.
It turned out that the hamster, which had been rubbing against Kyoko's fingers in a flattering manner, immediately drooped its head and looked dejected when Rena mentioned its shameful name, as if to say, "I'm not, I didn't, you've mistaken me for someone else!"
"Huh?" Kyoko exclaimed in surprise, "This name is so weird. Flywheel, hamster flywheel... Is it Lilo & Stitch?"
“Yes, yes! Kyoko has seen it too!” Rena said happily.
"Of course I've seen it. But isn't it a bit strange to name a hamster like that?" Anzu said.
Rena pouted and asked, "Then what name should we choose?"
"Can I give it a name?" Anzu asked.
"Of course! You can choose any name you like, but please don't choose names like 'Little White' or 'White Ball,' those are really awful!" Rena said.
The hamster nodded in agreement, but after thinking it over carefully, it felt something was off and shook its head again.
Kyoko pondered, "This is the first time I've ever seen a hamster... First time, only one, so let's use the character 'only'. Hamster, how about we call it Cangwei!"
"Kurai, little Kurakii, hey, this name is great!" Rena said happily, touching the hamster in the bag with her fingers, "You have a new name, from now on you will be called Kurakii."
The hamster looked at Rena and Kyoko with a blank expression.
The two laughed happily, and just like that, the hamster's name changed from Flying Wheel to Hamster Girl.
"Hello, Kurayama!" Rena Kyoko teased the hamster. To others, the two of them had their heads drooping in the drawer, whispering to each other.
People would pass by from time to time, but they would only glance at it and not investigate further.
Zhu Ke was in a bad mood; she had been scolded in class and was very resentful. Seeing Reina and Kyoko slumped over their desks, their heads peeking into their drawers, she wondered what they were doing.
Zhu Ke quietly walked up to Ling Nai and the others, peeked inside, and saw the hamster in the bag.
"What are you doing?" Rena noticed someone behind her and immediately stuffed the cloth bag deep into the drawer.
"You actually brought a hamster to school!" Zhu Ke exclaimed.
Rena said, "What's it to you!"
"Let me play with it for a bit, or I'll tell the teacher you brought a hamster to school!" Zhu Ke threatened.
Rena ignored her, taking her words as a joke. Students generally wouldn't tell a teacher, no matter what, because that would be tantamount to going too far.
"Hurry up and show it to me!" Zhu Ke said again.
Rena still ignored her.
The school bell rang, and Zhu Ke became furious when she saw that Ling Nai ignored her.
Xingzi said, "Hurry up and go back to your seat!"
Zhu Ke stood right there, locked in a fierce battle with Reina.
Just then, the math teacher came in through the back door, catching the noisy students off guard.
As soon as the math teacher came in, she saw Zhu Ke standing next to Ling Nai. All the other students had returned to their seats, but she was still standing.
"Zhu Ke, haven't you finished talking yet? Or do you prefer to stand? Do you want to stand with me for the rest of the class?" the math teacher said.
Zhu Ke bit her lip angrily and returned to her seat.
Reina breathed a sigh of relief, but unexpectedly, Zhu Ke had only taken a few steps when she turned back and pointed at Reina, saying, "Teacher, she brought a hamster to school!"
Reina Kyoko was stunned; she hadn't expected that her daughter would actually tell the teacher.
Reina Kyoko looked at Zhu Ke, who snorted and turned her head away, feeling much better. "You made me get scolded by the teacher during class!" she thought, shifting all the blame onto Reina.
“You…” Rena didn’t know what to say, so she quietly put the cloth bag behind Kyoko’s schoolbag, and Kyoko stuffed the cloth bag into her own schoolbag.
"Is that really true?" The math teacher walked over.
“No! She’s talking nonsense!” Rena said.
"You're still trying to deny it! It's right in her drawer!" Zhu Ke said.
The math teacher asked Rena to take out her schoolbag. Rena did so, but the drawer was empty.
The math teacher frowned, casually rummaged through Rena's bag a few times, and then stuffed it back in.
"If your scores are below average in this final exam, I'll give you more homework. You're really too idle. It's the end of the semester, and you still have so much to do!" the math teacher said, disregarding the hamster incident and punishing both of them together.
Zhu Ke glared angrily at Lingna, who pursed her lips.
……
That evening, Yi Yue received a phone call.
"Hello, are you Rena's parent?" The call was from her math teacher.
“Yes, I am,” Izuki said. “Are you Reina’s homeroom teacher?”
“Yes,” the math teacher said. “I’ll call you and tell you about Rena’s recent situation.” He briefly explained the hamster incident and then talked about Rena’s recent behavior in class, which made Izuki frown.
"Rena is a very smart and lively child, but the classroom is not a place for her to be lively. I hope she can use her intelligence to study!" the math teacher said.
“Yes, I will talk to Reina properly!” Izuki said.
The math teacher nodded: "Locking us teachers won't do any good; you parents need to cooperate too!"
"I know, don't worry, teacher," Yi Yue said, chatted for a few more minutes, and then hung up the phone.
"Sigh." Itsuki sighed and walked towards Rena's room. She really needed to have a serious talk with her; how could she continue studying like this?
Chapter Ninety-Nine: Strike
As soon as Izuki entered the room, she saw Rena sitting under the desk lamp, earnestly reciting her text.
The sun is rising in the west, and Rena is actually studying?
Izuki was a little skeptical. Was Rena secretly playing on her phone and reading comics, and hiding the things as soon as she heard Izuki's footsteps?
"Dad, is something wrong?" Rena stopped reciting and turned to look at Izuki.
"My math teacher just called," Yi Yue said.
Reina's expression changed slightly, and she lowered her head guiltily, asking, "What did the teacher say?"
"She said you weren't paying attention in class, that you were always fidgeting and talking to your deskmate," Yi Yue said seriously. "Is that true?"
Rena stuck out her little tongue: "I guess so."
"What do you mean by 'consider it'? If you have it, say you have it; if you don't, say you don't!" Izuki said angrily, not joking with Reina.
