Yi Yue forced a smile and said, "Otherwise what?"
Looking at Yi Yue's smile, Yi Xue suddenly remembered the joke Yi Yue made on the day of the mountain climb, saying she would protect them.
Yi Yue picked up a towel from the table next to her and wiped the sweat from her face.
Yixue asked, "When did Dad start exercising?"
"Hmm, I think I've been exercising for over a week now, but I've forgotten when I started," Yi Yue recalled, somewhat unsure.
Yixue recalled the time of the hike that day and thought to herself, "Just as I expected."
Yi Yue is more of a doer; she doesn't just talk the talk.
Yixue joked, "Dad, how's the workout going? Don't you feel much stronger?"
"It's alright, I don't feel much stronger." Yi Yue showed Yi Xue her arm, which was slender and fair, with no muscles.
Yi Yue smiled and said, "But I feel much better." Her optimistic smile masked a pessimistic thought: "No matter how much I exercise, I probably won't get any stronger. I'm already this age, and my body is pretty much set. I just hope that exercising will help me stay healthy. I don't want my daughters to worry; they still need me to take care of them. What will they do if I get sick?"
Yi Xue smiled at Yi Yue and gave her a fist pump: "Go, Daddy!"
"Yes!" Yi Yue nodded emphatically, feeling refreshed and invigorated by Yi Xue's smile.
"Keep going! Keep trying! You need to have the right mindset first!" Yi Yue felt that she couldn't face things with such a pessimistic and gloomy attitude; she should be more positive.
Yixue asked, "What kind of exercises does Dad do?"
"Yes, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, and jump rope," Yi Yue said.
"Can I watch from the side?" Yixue smiled and said, "I'll help Dad count how many times he did it."
“Of course,” Yi Yue said with a smile.
Yi Yue lay on the ground, preparing to do push-ups.
Yixue took two steps back and stood to the side, asking, "How many push-ups do you need to do?"
"Okay, let's do two sets. Twenty reps per set, let's start with one set," Yi Yue said, and began doing push-ups.
Yi Xue counted on the side: "One, two, three... thirteen, fourteen..."
Yixue counted slowly.
Yi Yue struggled to her feet, supporting herself on her arms. Each time she did so, Yi Xue could see her arms trembling.
When Yixue read the number fifteen, Yiyue couldn't take it anymore and wanted to collapse to the ground. But with Yixue watching from the side, Yiyue refused to give up and gritted her teeth to persevere.
When Yixue read to twenty, Yiyue breathed a deep sigh of relief. Instead of lying down on the ground, she forced herself to get up.
"Ha...ha..." Yi Yue's face was flushed, as if she were drunk, and she was out of breath, leaning against the wall next to her.
Yixue didn't say anything, but stood obediently to the side. After a minute, Yixue took a towel and gently wiped Yiyue's sweat.
"No need, I can do it myself." Yi Yue took the towel from Yi Xue's hand, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and smiled at Yi Xue, "Am I useless? I only did twenty and I'm already done."
"No, twenty is already a lot," Yixue said with a smile, her tone very sincere.
Yi Yue smiled and said, "Yi Xue, would you like to give it a try?"
Yixue hesitated for a moment, then waved her hand and said, "No need, Dad. I'll do it, but I probably won't be able to finish more than a few."
"It can't be that bad," Yi Yue said. "Let's give it a try."
"Well... alright." Yixue pretended to be hesitant, but after a moment's hesitation, she finally agreed.
Yi Yue moved aside, and Yi Xue lay down on the ground.
"Is it okay now?" Yi Yue asked.
"Okay." Yixue nodded, indicating that they could begin.
"One, two..." Yi Yue began to count. When Yi Xue reached four, her body began to sway. When she reached five, Yi Xue lay on the floor and barely raised her hand, saying, "I can't do any more. I have no strength left."
"No way." Yi Yue was a little skeptical, but seeing Yi Xue panting on the ground, she had to accept the fact that Yi Xue had only done five push-ups.
Yi Yue reached out and helped Yi Xue up. Yi Xue's legs were a little weak, and she twisted her ankle and almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, Yi Yue reacted quickly and immediately hugged Yi Xue.
"Are you alright?" Yi Yue asked.
Yi Xue snuggled closer to Yi Yue, her face slightly flushed, and said, "It's alright." She gently wrapped her arms around Yi Yue's back.
Yi Yue scolded, "Don't just focus on your studies and neglect your health. Health is the foundation of everything, so take better care of yourself." Her tone revealed her concern for Yi Xue.
Like a little girl who had made a mistake, Yixue didn't dare to look up and blushed as she hummed in agreement.
Yi Yue sighed, "You should exercise with me when you have time. You can't keep going like this; getting your health back is the most important thing."
"I understand." Yi Xue lowered her head, but the corners of her mouth turned up. She said, "That's why I said I couldn't do more than a few."
"It's alright," Yi Yue said softly. "Take your time."
Unbeknownst to him, Yixue was deliberately faking it to comfort him.
Yi Xue's face flushed, and she responded with a soft "Mmm" in the softest voice. She stood obediently to the side, head down, waiting for Yi Yue to speak.
Chapter Ninety-Five Microwave Oven
In Rena's room, Rena tossed and turned in bed, clutching her blanket, unable to fall asleep.
When she was in school, Yi Yue kept urging her to get up, but the more she was urged, the more she wanted to stay in bed. Before Yi Yue knew it, she would lie down again and sleep soundly.
But now, without Izuki urging her to sleep, Rena can't fall asleep no matter how long she sleeps.
This made Rena particularly irritable.
Rena pulled the blanket over her head. Damn it, she couldn't fall asleep at all!
"Ugh, so annoying!" Rena kicked off the blanket and sat on the bed. Her stomach rumbled, and Rena pouted, "I'm so hungry. Oh well, I'll get up and eat." After washing up in the bathroom, she went downstairs to the kitchen.
"Where's Dad?" Rena looked at the empty living room and then at the empty kitchen.
"Where did they go?" Reina wondered, thinking, "Could it be that Dad and Yixue went hiking alone?" She had just passed by Yiyue and Yixue's room; their door was open, but Yiyue and Yixue weren't inside. Dad wouldn't let her close the door, saying that opening it to let in fresh air was good.
Rena felt inexplicably unhappy, with a strange feeling in her heart.
"It's good that you went. Now I'm all alone at home. No one will be nagging me to study anymore," Rena said sourly. She walked to the shoe cabinet in the entryway to check, only to find that Izuki and Yixue's shoes were already there.
"Didn't Daddy go out with Yixue?" Rena cheered again, but then suddenly realized why she was so happy and immediately stopped smiling.
"Where did Dad and the others go?" Rena wondered, when she heard a noise coming from the room next to the kitchen.
Reina opened the door and went in. She saw that Izuki was lying on the floor with a purple mat on her back, her hands covering her head. Izuki was holding Izuki's ankles and doing sit-ups.
“Thirty-eight, thirty-nine…” Yi Xue counted carefully for Yi Yue, without looking at Ling Nai behind her.
After finishing forty repetitions, Izuki stood up and said, "Rena, are you up so early?" He thought Rena would get up later.
"I can't sleep," Rena said resentfully, her biological clock had kicked in.
"Have you eaten? The sandwich is on the table, you can take it and heat it up in the microwave," Yi Yue said.
Reina made an "oh" sound and asked curiously, "Dad, why are you suddenly exercising today?"
"I just felt like exercising," Yi Yue said. "Do you want to come along?"
Rena stuck out her tongue: "What sudden whim? I think it's because you lost to me yesterday and you're not happy about it, so you're thinking of training to beat me next time. Hehe, impossible!" She wagged her index finger at Izuki, gave her a playful smile, and left the room.
Yi Yue smiled and shook her head: "Really, this child." She continued exercising.
……
On the dining table, there were sandwiches on a plate, which Izuki had carefully covered with plastic wrap, afraid that Reina would tear it into a mess.
Rena took the sandwich out of the microwave and heated it a few times. She ate the steaming hot sandwich and drank the freshly made warm milk.
"Feeling great."
A ray of sunlight shone on the table, and Rena felt very comfortable, squinting her eyes as she ate the sandwich that Itsuki had made for her, making "mmm" sounds.
"So delicious." Rena ate three in a row, and when she was eating the last one, she suddenly thought of something.
"Oh no! We haven't fed Jenny and Flying Wheel yet!" Rena hurriedly stood up. Izuki had entrusted the pets with her full responsibility, but she hadn't expected to forget to feed them right from the start.
Rena put down her half-eaten sandwich and hurriedly ran to the living room, bumping right into Itsuki, who had just finished exercising.
"What's wrong? Why are you in such a hurry?" Yi Yue asked.
Rena asked, "Dad, have you fed Jenny and Airwheel yet?"
“Of course I fed him,” Yi Yue said. “I fed him before I ate.”
Hearing Izuki say that, Rena breathed a sigh of relief.
Yi Yue said, "Remember to feed yourself next time."
"Okay!" Rena said, happily running to the living room sofa table to tease Flying Wheel and Jenny on the table.
“Jenny, squeak squeak squeak.” Rena switched between species languages, her smile bright and sunny.
Yi Yue stood to the side, smiling, and thought the whole thing was as harmonious as a painting.
By noon, lunch was ready, and a variety of delicious dishes were laid out on the table, emitting an enticing aroma.
Rena's stomach was growling with hunger, and she was drooling. Just as she sat down, she suddenly remembered, "Oh no! I haven't fed Feilun and Jenny yet!" She rushed to the living room to feed the turtle and hamster.
Looking at her hurried appearance, Izuki sighed helplessly, thinking to herself, "When will Rena stop being so careless and sloppy?"
……
After lunch, Yixue and Yiyue returned to their respective rooms.
Rena was jumping around on the sofa, the air conditioning was set very low, and anime was playing on the TV; she had created her own little world.
Rena ate potato chips while watching TV with great interest.
"Squeak squeak squeak..." The hamster, Flywheel, was squeaking inside its cage on the nearby table.
Rena walked over and said, "Are you bored since I wasn't keeping you company?"
"Squeak squeak squeak." The hamster shook its head.
Rena suddenly remembered something and quickly turned off the air conditioner.
Fortunately, it had only been open for a short time, so there wasn't much air conditioning.
