The girl smiled shyly and said, "Thank you."
"Want to come together?" another girl asked.
Izuki smiled gently and shook her head: "No, thank you." She returned to Makise's side.
Chapter 149 Chilling
"Didu—"
Rena's phone is out of battery.
"The battery's dead now," Rena muttered irritably, glancing at the progress bar of her anime series. There was still more than half left, and the plot had just reached its climax. She took out the charger to charge her phone. With nothing else to do, she went downstairs to the living room to watch TV.
In the living room, Yixue was watching TV. She was watching a horror movie, which had just started.
"What are you looking at?" Rena asked, sitting on the sofa next to her.
"A terrifying night," Yixue said.
Rena muttered, "What a corny name." She stared at the TV screen and watched along.
This horror movie is about a family of four: the parents go on a business trip, leaving their two daughters at home.
Everything at the beginning seemed utterly ordinary, but subtle horror lurked in the details, as if a pair of eyes were silently watching you in the darkness. Coupled with the delicate background music, this created a terrifying atmosphere.
Reina felt a chill run down her spine and sat down next to Yixue.
Yixue glanced at Rena, who was slowly moving closer to her, and curled the corners of her lips. Without saying a word, she looked at the TV screen in front of her.
The movie reached its climax. The younger daughter couldn't sleep. She noticed the light suddenly turn on at the door. She went downstairs and looked towards the door, but there was no one there. Terrified, she quickly hid under the covers and locked the door.
Tap tap tap, footsteps sounded at the door. The younger daughter dared not peek out. The door opened, but it was locked, preventing anyone from entering. Terrified, the younger daughter called her parents, only to hear, "I've been watching you the whole time."
The youngest daughter, trembling, asked, "Who are you? Where are you?"
"I'm right beside you." The voice on the other end of the phone seemed to be right next to my ear.
The little girl couldn't stand it anymore and immediately ran to the door, but she couldn't open it no matter what she did; it seemed to be locked from the inside.
Pat pat pat, footsteps sounded behind me...
"Ah!" Rena turned pale with fright when she saw this.
Yixue found it amusing. Seeing Yixue mocking her, Reina became a little angry, "What a terrible movie!"
"You were scared?" Yixue asked with a smile.
Rena's face darkened: "How could I possibly be scared!" She didn't even bother reading the rest and went upstairs unhappily.
Yi Xue smiled, her lips curving upwards even further: "These kinds of films aren't easy to find."
……
Late at night, Rena lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Her mind was filled with scenes from that horror movie.
The parents were not home, leaving their two daughters at home.
The more she thought about it, the more similar it seemed. The cold air from the air conditioner made Rena feel uneasy, so she instinctively pulled the blanket tighter around her.
"Is Yixue doing this on purpose?!" Reina cursed Yixue in her heart, comforting herself: "How could something like this happen in a movie in real life?"
"Meow..." A sharp meow came from outside the window, startling Rena.
“I don’t remember there being any cats around here.” Rena’s face turned pale. She sat up and looked out the window. The light at the front door was actually on.
Reina felt as if she had fallen into an ice cave, and broke out in a cold sweat.
The light in front of her house wasn't a voice-activated light, but a touch-sensitive one; it would turn on when she placed her hand on it and then turn off after a while.
Who turned on her lights so late?
Rena slowly walked to the window and looked down; there was no one at the doorway.
Rena trembled with fear, trying to reassure herself: "Is it some little kid who's up in the middle of the night and playing pranks on other people's doors?"
At that moment, she remembered a scene from a movie.
"It can't be that much of a coincidence," Rena thought, feeling frightened. She drew the curtains shut, turned on the lamp, opened the door a crack, and peered around. Seeing no movement in the hallway, she quickly closed the door.
Remembering a scene from a movie where someone was in the room, Rena immediately ran to check under the bed and in the closet. Once she confirmed that no one was there, she quickly locked the door.
"It must be a coincidence." Rena's heart was racing. The curtains were drawn a crack, and the light at the front door was already off.
"Meow!" Another piercing meow shattered the silence. The meow grew fainter and fainter, as if someone were choking it.
Rena was speechless, cold sweat slowly trickling down her back. She slowly returned to bed, pulling the blanket over her pillow.
"Clap clap clap..."
Footsteps could be heard coming from the corridor outside the door.
Rena became frightened and wanted to give up entirely, so she shouted loudly, "Yixue!"
It's possible that the person outside the door is Yixue.
But what if, what if it's someone else?
Reina quietly lifted the covers and peeked through the crack in the door. If it were Yixue, she would definitely have turned on the light, and there would be light coming from the crack in the door.
Unfortunately, there was no sound of footsteps outside the door.
"Clap clap clap." The sound wasn't loud, but it could be heard clearly in the quiet corridor.
Rena was really scared.
"Oh right, my phone, I need to call Dad." Rena couldn't take it anymore and was scared, so she wanted to confide in Izuki.
Rena was fumbling with her phone, which was charging on the bedside table, and accidentally dropped it on the floor.
"Thud!" The sound of the phone hitting the floor was particularly jarring.
The footsteps in the corridor stopped.
Rena was trembling, barely daring to breathe. After a long while, when there was no sound outside the door, Rena finally picked up her phone and dialed Izuki's number.
"Rena, is something wrong?" Itsuki's voice came from the other end of the phone.
Izuki sounded exhausted. He had just fallen asleep when Rena woke him up.
Reina told Itsuki everything in detail.
Rena was so scared she was about to cry: "Daddy, what should I do?"
"Don't be afraid, maybe Yixue went downstairs to get a drink of water? Don't panic, calm down," Yiyue comforted gently. "Just stay in your room and call Yixue to ask and confirm."
“Yes!” Reina nodded.
Yi Yue said, "Don't be afraid, ask first, and Dad will call you back later."
Reina hung up the phone and dialed Yixue's number.
"Sister, were you the one who went downstairs to get a drink of water just now?" Rena's voice trembled slightly, and she was so scared that she actually called Yixue "sister".
"No," Yixue said calmly, causing Lingnai's nerves to tense up immediately.
"Did you hear a noise in the hallway?" Yixue asked. "Like this..."
"Clap clap clap..."
Footsteps sounded again, and Rena's face turned deathly pale.
"Clang, clang..." That's the sound of turning the doorknob.
"I'm watching you," a hoarse voice came from the other end of the phone.
Rena burst into tears in fear.
"Rena, Rena!"
Yixue's voice came from outside the door, and light shone through the crack in the door below.
Reina was scared and cried for a while before she finally opened the door after much persuasion from Yixue outside.
"Waaah..." Rena sobbed, hugging Yixue and punching her back with her fist.
Helpless, Yixue comforted Lingna for a while, then dialed Yiyue's number. Yiyue had also called her earlier out of concern.
"It was just a false alarm," Yixue said.
Yi Yue was relieved and breathed a sigh of relief. She talked for a long time before hanging up the phone.
Yixue comforted Lingna: "It's okay, I just went downstairs to get a drink of water, don't think too much about it."
Rena blushed and sobbed softly, "Then why did you tell me no, and scare me like that!"
Yi Xue said calmly, "You called me so late and woke me up. I'm sure I'll be in a bad mood and scare you."
"Tch." Reina scoffed, realizing she was in the wrong.
“You really put on a convincing ‘I’m watching you’,” Rena said, still feeling a lingering fear when she thinks about it.
"I didn't say that," Yixue said casually, thinking that Lingnai had misheard. A smile played on her lips as she thought, "Dad should be back soon." Her face flushed, and she smiled.
Reina snorted twice, thinking that Yixue was still trying to scare her, and she wouldn't fall for it.
The lights suddenly came on at the gate, but there was no one there.
Chapter 150 Not at ease
"Moon, who's calling?" Makise mumbled sleepily, woken up by the ringing phone.
Izuki hung up the phone, patted Makise and said, "Go to sleep, it's nothing. Rena was watching a horror movie and couldn't sleep in the middle of the night, she's just being paranoid." She turned off the bedside lamp.
Makise murmured something, hugged Itsuki's arm, rubbed against her for a while, found a comfortable spot, and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, we had breakfast at the hotel's buffet restaurant.
Izuki said, "Makise, I want to go back as soon as possible."
Makise said with dissatisfaction, "Tsuki, we've only been playing for one day, why are you already thinking about going back?"
