The surgeon brandished his saw, looking furious.
“Very good. The first thing we need you to do for us is to teach us the basic operating procedures of the fel warship—don’t try anything funny. I’m an engineer too, and I know the general principles.”
".......yes......"
Seconds later, persuaded by the double axe strikes of Brox and Valok, the Exciter chose to follow his heart.
——————————————Half an hour later————————————————————
"So, actually, even a complete idiot who knows nothing about engineering could operate this fel-powered mothership?"
Having basically grasped the basic control methods of the Doomsday Hand, Tannis's face twitched; she found things to be much simpler than she had imagined.
"Because most of the demons in the Burning Legion are brainless, and these brainless bastards, because they often charge into battle and their military achievements far exceed those of us in the logistics department, are more likely to become captains! Damn it! The captains of the fel motherships should only be the responsibility of us Morgok demons! That's how it should be!!"
Tanis chuckled as she watched the surgical patient venting his frustrations.
"Didn't the Legion consider the possibility that your fel-powered warships could be seized and turned into weapons by someone else?"
"Being able to operate a warship and being able to use a warship in combat are two different concepts... Ms. Human."
The exciter, who habitually wanted to utter the word "mortal," once again chose to yield under Tennys's gaze.
"Is this something only you, the Morgard Demon Order, are capable of taking further action?"
Ignoring the surgeon's slight 'disrespect,' Tanis grasped the subtext of his words.
"Of course! If you're a proper engineer, you should know that many things in engineering are easy to use, but difficult to master! Whether a fel-powered mothership can unleash its full combat potential is inseparable from us, the vice-captains of Morgo!"
"Oh, so that means this mothership is actually much more terrifying than we faced before?"
“That’s right. If Lord Archimonde hadn’t ordered us to use it as an anchor point to teleport the demon forces behind us, we would have already burned you to the ground with this warship….”
"I understand. So, could you teach me something more advanced? For example, how to warp in this warship?"
—————————————————Burning Legion, Main Force——————————————————
Archimonde the Defiler sat on his throne, propping his head up with his right hand, gazing indifferently at the colossal World Tree in the distance. Before him, countless demons stood in neat rows, silent.
Still no news from the front lines?
"Lord Archimonde, we still haven't been able to make contact with the high-ranking Shadowmage Arizakun or the Exciter."
Archimonde's technical messenger's reply made Archimonde's expression slightly displeased.
"Even the summoning portal can't be restored?"
"The spatial coordinates of the Doomsday Hand are still fluctuating and cannot serve as a stable anchor point... Wait, why are the coordinates of the Doomsday Hand starting to move closer to us?"
The technical messenger had barely spoken when a vortex appeared in the sky, and the massive fel warship plummeted headfirst into the center of the demon horde!
boom!!!!
——————————————Second Line of Defense——————————————————
A white halo flashed, and Tanya, Thrall, Broxigar, Varok, and Jaina tumbled out of the teleportation circle one by one, causing things to fall down with a clatter.
"...Did we succeed?"
Sal covered his head, shook himself, stood up, and looked at the front line.
"At least I can guarantee that I threw that warship off the battlefield. I can't say exactly where I threw it, since I just randomly picked those coordinates."
Tanis sat up abruptly, resting her chin on her hand.
"In short... the matter of the fel warships has come to an end... Next, we will face an even more terrifying attack from the Legion."
63. The Battle of Hyjal – The Scourge Returns
Just as Tanis had said, the night after they destroyed the fel warship, the Burning Legion's true vanguard appeared outside the second line of defense.
Under the glow of the slowly descending flares, the Scourge forces were laid bare before the allied forces who had seized the high ground. Skeletons carrying bone weapons sculpted from dark magic advanced silently, while ghouls with rotting flesh hanging from their stinking bones howled and squeaked. Brainless zombies staggered through the undead horde, and the massive, dark green venom churned within the abdomen of the Abomination, a creature stitched together from countless pieces of corpses, spreading deadly gas in all directions. Occasionally, the mournful howls of banshees streaked across the sky—a few of them vaguely resembling humans, but most possessing the pointed ears of elves—clearly, these poor women had been members of the Elven race in their lifetimes.
"Were those... victims of the High Elves?"
Looking at the banshees floating in the air, screaming shrilly, Jaina covered her mouth. She wasn't unaware that Quel'Thalas had fallen, but seeing the stark reality of its destruction right before her eyes still made her feel cold.
“These guys aren’t strong enough to break through our lines. I’m worried the Burning Legion has a backup plan.”
Tanis, one of the only two commanders present with experience fighting the undead, frowned. The Scourge's forces seemed to be coming on strong, but most of their soldiers were mindless melee units. These things had no chance of breaking through the defensive barrier created by the night elves using the natural power of Mount Hyjal!
"We can only react to each move as it comes, Miss Tannis. The current situation doesn't allow us to think about anything else."
Sal stated his opinion in a deep voice.
“You’re right, High Chieftain Thrall…”
Having clearly understood that Thrall's words made sense, Tanis temporarily put aside her thoughts about what the Burning Legion might have up its sleeve and began directing the Tinkerers to build firing platforms. Soon, cannons were set up at various marked firing points, their muzzles pointing directly at the undead wandering outside the barrier.
After briefly estimating the distance, Tennys suddenly swung her arm down.
"Fire!!"
———————————————Ashen Valley——————————————————————
"Lord Anaseron, the cannon fodder troops of the Neutralizers have made contact with the mortal defenses."
In a night elf village that had been ravaged by the Burning Legion and then used as a temporary headquarters, a lich dressed in magnificent lich robes, carrying an ominous-skinned spellbook, with a dagger shrouded in cold air hanging at his waist, and wearing a strange crown, stood behind a dreadlord and respectfully reported to him.
“You have done well, Ragidonhan... The Legion will remember your deeds..."
Upon receiving the report, Anotheron turned around, making no attempt to hide the admiration in his eyes. After sidelining Arthas and Kel'Thuzad, the Burning Legion had specially chosen this lich to appoint as Anotheron's lieutenant, commanding the Scourge in Kalimdor. And Reki Winterfrost did not disappoint them, perfectly completing one mission after another.
"It is my honor to serve the Legion, Lord Anatheon."
Lei Jidong bowed slightly, indicating that he did not deserve such an honor.
"The second batch of troops is ready, isn't it, Regidonhan?"
"Yes, the second batch of troops has already taken up their positions and is just waiting for your order, sir."
“Indeed, it’s time to let Lord Archimonde realize that we Nathrezim are not only good at intelligence operations…”
Anotheron stepped out of the room, raised its right paw, and a ball of demonic fire began to slowly burn in its paw.
"Mortals...you will soon learn that the enemy has always been right beside you..."
—————————————Second Line of Defense————————————————————
"yawn......."
Sitting inside the new combat fortress, Tanis, who hadn't had a good rest for days, yawned widely. The current battle, though it looked intense, was incredibly boring—the Scourge would simply use weaklings to ram into the natural barriers that couldn't break through, only to be quickly decomposed and purified. The defending forces only needed to chop up the larger undead that weren't decomposing quickly enough, or use ranged weapons to loosen their bones beforehand.
"What exactly are they planning by wasting their troops like this?"
Jaina, who finally had a little time to clear her head, asked in a puzzled tone.
"I don't know, but they must have a purpose in doing this. I don't think the Burning Legion would just throw away so many lowly undead cannon fodder for nothing."
As Tannis spoke, she casually fired a shot, blasting an Abomination back into its parts.
"But so far, we haven't seen any plans from them."
Thrall, still maintaining the power of wind and earth, was somewhat worried. Although he offered suggestions on how to counter each move, the Scourge's seemingly unpredictable attack style left him completely unable to grasp the key points.
"Perhaps their plan has already begun, but we just haven't noticed..."
Tannis looked up at the overcast sky, then froze.
"what happened?"
Jaina, noticing that something was wrong with Tanyas, quickly asked what was wrong.
"The spectral analysis on my glasses shows a change in color variation in the sky. If this data is accurate, it means the green of the barrier has faded!"
"I'll go ask the night elves right away!"
Having vaguely grasped something, Jaina immediately got up to find the night elf druids maintaining the barrier and ask them what was going on. But before she could leave, a muffled sound of a bubble bursting echoed through the night sky, followed by exclamations from several night elf sentries.
"The barrier is broken! How is this possible???"
"Did those undead tear through the night elves' barrier?"
Jaina froze, while Tennys shook her head.
"Jaina, things aren't that simple! Those undead attacks might just be the trigger... All cannons! Switch to incendiary warheads! Extend the artillery line back 300 meters!!! Full firepower! Suppression!!!"
At Tannis's command, specially made shells whistled as they landed on the suddenly accelerating undead horde, creating a sea of fire that illuminated the darkness and split the undead army in two.
"call...."
Before Tannis could even catch her breath, a burst of extremely cold air exploded on the battlefield. In an instant, the raging flames were suppressed by most of them, and Ragi Winter Frost slowly drifted into the battlefield, staring blankly at Tannis and the others.
"Kneel down...and embrace death..., mortal..."
64. The Battle of Hyjal – Malfurion's Awakening
Mount Hyjal, the Great Beast's Lair.
Cenarius stood at the entrance to the Great Cavern, his eyes calm and unwavering as he looked at a night elf brought before him. Malfurion stood beside his mentor, his eyes filled with regret as he looked at the druid who had committed a grave error—not long ago, this druid had used an evil artifact to channel the power of a dead undead creature into a natural barrier, triggering a chain reaction that reduced the entire barrier to ashes within seconds, leaving several druids who had been supporting it unconscious from the recoil.
"Danor, why did you do this?"
A few seconds later, Malfurion spoke with a heavy heart.
“I…I…”
The young druid, called Danor, moved his lips as if trying to explain, but having regained his senses, he realized he had been tricked by a demon—the ghost of his sister, who had recently died in the Legion's invasion, had given him a 'magical artifact' and told him that by absorbing a small amount of energy from a certain location within the barrier, he could 'resurrect' her. Upon closer inspection, the story was riddled with flaws, yet, for some inexplicable reason, he had believed his 'sister'!
"The Dreadlord is very adept at exploiting the weaknesses in the hearts of intelligent beings, then using mental magic and illusions to deceive them in the image of those he cares about most. Danor's fate cannot be entirely blamed on him, but imprisoning him is necessary."
Cenarius spoke slowly.
"Yes, teacher."
Malfurion, understanding that Cenarius had no intention of pursuing the matter further, nodded and signaled to take Darnor away. Once he could no longer see the others, Malfurion sighed softly.
"With a little trickery, our proud natural barrier has become a joke. The night elves are immortal, but they've been stuck in the same place for ten thousand years, while our enemies are advancing rapidly... Is immortality a blessing or a curse?"
"For the great, it's a blessing; for the mortal, it's a curse."
