"Give me your bullets and gun!" Jack ordered Fox.
"Okay, here you go!" Fox threw the gun and bullets off the ground.
Holding two guns, each with a magazine of bullets, Jack fired rapidly from both sides, and the Magnum's immense power quickly cleared a path.
"Fox, you... you have to get out of here! I'm out of bullets!" Jack's face was full of anxiety.
"Captain, you..." Fox glanced back. "Hurry up!" Jack exclaimed excitedly, and Fox rushed out as well.
Jack was running out of bullets after fighting off the zombies. When he fired his last bullet, the zombies had surrounded him. Looking in the direction of his companions who had already rushed out, he smiled. "Hey, come on!" Jack shouted, and then rushed into the horde of zombies and slowly disappeared.
Fox ran out of the zombie encirclement. Soon, the gunshots behind him stopped, and gradually, the roars also disappeared.
"Captain!" he shouted, turning around. Facing the direction of the epidemic area, he knelt down.
The three people a few hundred meters ahead of him heard this shout and immediately had a bad feeling.
"Could it be...?"
The following afternoon around 5 p.m., the Border Defense Research Institute in the epidemic area.
Four people were standing at the door when a person who was wrapped up tightly in various epidemic prevention supplies came out.
“Where are the samples?” he asked.
Behind the four of them was a cart with a cabinet made of a special material on it. They pointed to the cart.
"Oh." The man pushed the cart inside. After a while, he came out and said to the four people:
"Can you tell me how you obtained this?"
The four team members fell silent, overcome with grief.
Since the outbreak, five people have been assigned to the border defense department in the epidemic area.
These five people studied epidemic prevention knowledge and trained together.
They may have had arguments, or they may have had joy.
But the person who was joking with them just hours before, the one who was able to successfully complete the mission by covering their own escape, died.
They could no longer laugh.
He could no longer utter that terrifying cry.
After a brief silence, Fox managed to compose himself and began to speak: "After we entered the epidemic area, the first thing we did was search an office building and found only one body. I remember when the captain and I found the body, the middle-aged man had a fatal wound on his neck, and for some reason there was that green liquid on his body."
Later, when we reached the street, we were attacked by that sample. It spat out a liquid, a pale green color. The three of them were sprayed, only Jack and I escaped. But what was even stranger was that in less than a minute, a large number of zombies attacked, all heading straight for us. Due to insufficient ammunition and no support, Jack... he knew we had no chance of eliminating these zombies, and he sacrificed himself to cover our retreat..." Fox couldn't continue.
"Oh...I understand, we will conduct a thorough study of this book! Thank you! You can go now!" After saying that, the man went back inside.
The four people outside the door remained silent for a long time, their hearts heavy. Unbeknownst to them, Jack was now a zombie, the first zombie to wear a CEDA uniform. The virtual world was constantly refining its background, bringing the world into a more rational state. (To be continued...)
Chapter 152 Bill
The day after the outbreak of the mutated rabies virus, at Renji Hospital.
In the dim light, an old man sat by the hospital bed, oblivious to everything around him. He seemed devoid of emotion, but his eyes were sharp, clearly indicating that he was a very capable soldier.
"Sir, do you not have any family members?" A voice sounded at the door of the ward.
The old man glanced in the direction of the sound, his wrinkles standing out vividly under the light.
Seeing the old man's expression, the man said somewhat awkwardly, "Oh, okay, I'm sorry... I shouldn't..."
The old man's eyes were full of worry, as if he was concerned about something.
"So...you're a retired soldier?" The man at the door mustered his courage and asked again, seemingly interested in the old man's experiences. Perhaps it was his imposing presence that made him stand out.
"Isn't this a veterans' hospital?!" the old man retorted.
"This is just a routine inquiry, there's no need to be too nervous, because the infectious disease outbreak has put me in a bad mood."
“I’m fine now, but I think you should relax a bit,” the old man interrupted him. He then picked up a pack of cigarettes from the bedside table, lit it, and started smoking.
“Mr. Bill, you can’t smoke here. I’m sorry, I should have told you sooner….”
The old man didn't put out his cigarette, but instead asked, "Are you a doctor?"
"Well, I'm not yet, but I'm an intern... cough cough..." the doctor said awkwardly.
"An intern?" The old man was surrounded by smoke.
"What I mean is... I'm still learning how to be a doctor, and of course I can't speak right now... cough cough, this cigarette." The man stammered, choked by the smoke.
"Please, don't..."
“Son, go do your internship somewhere else…” the old man interrupted him again, though his tone was much warmer this time; after all, this was no longer a safe place. As a soldier, Bill could sense the danger he was in.
"Are you William Bill?" the intern finally asked, uttering his first complete sentence.
"What's wrong?" Bill said calmly.
"I originally came to ask you to perform surgery, so please..."
"Okay, I'll go with you."
----------------Divider-----------------------
Bill went into the operating room and followed the doctor's instructions. Once everything was ready, the surgery began.
His long-standing injury relapsed, and he finally underwent surgery.
"We'll begin the anesthesia now. Count down from ten to one," the doctor, wearing a mask, said.
“Okay,” Bill agreed.
"ten...."
"Nine..." The voices and faces of the two doctors in front of Bill gradually blurred...
"Eight..." His eyes were almost closed. The only thing he could see was the doctor preparing the equipment, and another doctor... wait, why is he clutching his stomach?
"Seven...???" Bill caught a glimpse of the doctor suddenly spitting out a mouthful of blood out of the corner of his eye!
The doctor who was preparing the equipment heard the sound and immediately turned around.
"Slash—" A zombie slashed open the doctor's chest, blood splattering everywhere. Could it be an infected zombie?
The zombies before him were frantically slaughtering the doctor, overturning Bill's bed. Looking at the狰狞 (zhengning - ferocious/hideous) face, Bill was astonished, wondering what was happening.
However, the effects of the anesthetic left Bill exhausted, and he wanted to sleep.
"I can't faint!!!" Bill struggled with his heart. But the scene before him continued to blur.
"Wake up...please..." Bill's hands clenched tightly, but his voice grew weaker and weaker.
Darkness finally enveloped him. "No! Wait, wait!" Bill's powerful military will awakened him.
The zombie in front of him had its mouth wide open; it was coming to kill him.
Bill kicked the zombie hard in the chin, causing it to dislocate and bleed profusely. The zombie rolled on the ground.
"God, what happened? Run!" Bill saw the zombie that was still alive in front of him and immediately got up and ran out.
He rushed out of the operating room, only to see the shadow of a zombie before him. It was catching up.
"Gah...ha!" the zombie screamed madly.
Bill burst through the door: "This place..." The door had a sign that read "Medical Supplies."
"Don't pass out... Don't be afraid... We need to find some sharp weapons... Kill him, then go home." The effects of the drug were still ongoing.
"...Damn it! Where?!...Stay awake...Don't fall asleep...Find it quickly...Where's the weapon...Where's the weapon...Where's it...?" Bill frantically searched.
"Found it!" Bill picked up a sharp cleaver. The zombies were coming. Bill glanced at them out of the corner of his eye. "Snap!" He used the sharp knife, blood splattering everywhere.
Bill draped a sheet over himself and grabbed a pitchfork. He rushed out of the hospital. It was raining outside, the cold rain splattering on the sheet, and blood was still dripping from the knife.
Pedestrians strolled around him, their eyes gleaming with malice. They all seemed to be watching him; in the shadows, their eyes could be seen shining brightly.
Bill showed no fear, calmly gripping the sharp weapon in his hand. The weapon in his hand was so dazzling, and the blood on it added to its murderous aura.
"It's been so long since I've really killed anyone!" Bill thought. More people surged forward, perhaps not people, but zombies.
A leaning telephone pole, scraps of paper flying everywhere. Though over fifty, he was still vigorous. The muscles he had honed in the military remained strong and toned even after the rain.
Back home, Bill was covered in mud. He looked around and saw a long-forgotten iron box next to the sofa, locked tightly with a padlock.
Bill opened the metal box, and dust slowly fell out. Because it hadn't been opened for so long, the box made a "clattering" sound.
Inside the metal box, neatly arranged, was a set of military uniform and... a photograph.
The photo shows three soldiers. The one in the middle appears to be Bill in his younger days, carrying a rifle and fighting spiritedly alongside his comrades. Back then, he also had a brown beard, which has long since turned white with age. This photo was likely taken during the Vietnam War with comrades from the Green Berets.
Bill tightened the laces of his boots, and his green military uniform was ready to go.
He then put the green beret on his head again.
"Click—" The door to Bill's house opened, and the light inside illuminated the figure of a soldier, so bright and dazzling!
"Aaaaaah!!!" The sound of M16 gunfire drowned them out. A brave veteran arrived; Bill was the most important survivor. (To be continued...)
Chapter 153 Francis and Louis
At the same moment, Francis didn't see that, having been bitten by a zombie, her skin was now ashen, radiating a strong murderous aura. Her muscles began to rapidly mutate.
She leaped forward and pounced on Francis. Just then, Francis's friend James killed the zombie.
“James, we just saw you shoot him dead.” Francis scratched his head in confusion.
“He’s a zombie, you idiot.” James turned and walked away. “I hate saying the same thing. This infection isn’t just a regular flu.” Several of Francis’s drinking buddies gathered around.
"This is a huge hoax, not some flu. It's all something the Federation is trying to hide from us... First, they want to destroy us... They have satellites... and cell phones... It's all a scheme to control us..." James said again.
James quietly led Francis to look outside the door. People on the street were walking around in a daze, and there were those evil eyes.
"Look closely, this is a living zombie apocalypse! Forget your usual rationality! This is a plague, tell me, who's really insane now!"
“Heh, you’re still a madman, James. But you’re right about one thing… if it’s full of zombies outside, the important thing is that we haven’t turned into zombies.” Francis showed no sign of tension.
“At least the zombies won’t lock us up in jail, because they can’t think, they can’t do anything, they’re like a bunch of idiots!!! And that means… we can live freely and do whatever we want!” Francis walked upstairs.
“If those idiots outside want to kill us, we can’t just sit here and wait to die. We’ll fight back. Take this jukebox and come with me!” Francis ordered.
