“This is normal,” Liu Chendong said calmly. “Both of us feel that the other side is making a mountain out of a molehill.”
"Hey! You can't say that!" The others listening nearby objected. It wasn't their permission for him to leave; if they hadn't seen he had a gun, some of them probably would have punched him.
“No, we don’t understand why you’re so upset about something as trivial as a chicken being run over on the street or other minor incidents,” Liu Chendong said.
"Listen, kid, we're also curious, is your credibility really that low?"
"You see, a disagreement has arisen. I feel the same way about everyone else, so goodbye," Liu Chendong said with a smile, preparing to leave again.
“Survival is the most important thing. We need your strength.” The survivor spoke again. “I don’t need your approval. We are just trying to survive in the hands of monsters, given that we are all human. That’s all.”
Liu Chendong knew he had gone a bit too far, but he didn't think much of it. "We're going to the city hall. There's a primitive telegraph machine there that we can use to call for help. We need someone like you to get us there alive," the survivor said again.
Contacting the outside world? This intrigued Liu Chendong. "Okay, I agree."
Douglas was overjoyed when Liu Chendong agreed to stay and started pestering him to teach him combat techniques again. Liu Chendong was also observing the others, especially the others. This time, it wasn't for any particular reason, but simply a feeling that this person gave off a very strange vibe.
The survivor, back in his bedroom, didn't turn on the light, and his left eye emitted a blue glow. The small dot that had appeared earlier expanded into a screen, displaying the footage from before. Next to Liu Chendong's image were various data analyses. "Looks like it wasn't him. Who could it be?" the survivor muttered to himself. "Maybe I'll be able to foresee him when I go to City Hall tomorrow." He then closed his eerie left eye.
Francis was also searching for the others, glancing at the time. He decided to rest for the night; there was no point in rushing. Looking around, he headed straight for the city hall across the street… Liu Chendong had also relied on himself without needing anyone's help.
Chapter 753 Trials in the Virtual World (15)
Early in the morning, Carlos and his group put on Hoffman's and his granddaughter Miss Gia's hats. Although she was a granddaughter, she was still a young woman in her twenties, as evidenced by Arnold and Daudet constantly hovering around her.
“Are we really going to walk all the way there? It’s so far,” Daisy complained.
"The city hall is in the center of this island. If we do anything there, zombies will swarm in from all directions. We don't even know how long we'll last."
Officer Jill was also being difficult; she wanted to take everyone away, which was of course impossible. Our Officer Jill, following the principle of majority rule, suffered a magnificent defeat.
“We’re just one more block from the city hall, but the population density in this area is extremely high, so be careful!” Daisy warned. The others nodded, and Hru tightened the straps on the child. Sure enough, the number of scattered zombies was higher here, and Carlos and the others silently cleared them out with the hand sabers they had found in the market.
"Damn it, there are so many zombies around the city hall, there's no way to get around them," Arno complained.
"Did someone go in first?" Donna asked. "Mr. Hoffman, is this the only way to get to the location you mentioned? Are there any other routes?"
“Yes, ma’am, do you think there will be many entrances to the escape route?” Hoffman said.
“Then there’s nothing we can do,” Carlos said. “Let’s split into groups. Arno and I will be in one group to lure them away. The rest of you, quickly find the plane and leave without waiting for us!”
“How can this be?” Janfer said.
“That’s right, kids. You, Daisy, Gia, Hoffman, and Jill are all pretty weak in combat,” Donna said. “Miss Jill, please don’t interrupt me. You may be very strong, but you can’t overcome your fear. You can handle people, but how much of your strength can you muster against zombies? We all saw how pathetic you were before.”
“I…you.” Jill was speechless, but it was the truth.
"Therefore, you are not able to use your abilities in this chaotic world. You might as well escape to the normal world outside and use your abilities. We will put you on a plane. Only Dud, who is good at piloting various machines, will leave with you. Heru and I will stay behind to support Carlos. You can either wait for your rescue or find a new way to leave."
"Alright, let's move out." Carlos interrupted Jill, who was about to argue, and ran out from another intersection with Arno, pulling the trigger at several zombies. Bang! Several gunshots rang out, and the zombies turned around in unison, saw Carlos and Arno, and roared as they gave chase. The two exchanged a glance and began to run as well. Suddenly, several figures leaped out from the horde of zombies—hunters? The monsters sprang into the air, opened their massive mouths, and sprayed a stream of slime at Carlos and Arno. The two quickly rolled away, but the zombies along their path and the cars hit by the spray all melted away. The two gasped; if they had been sprayed with that, they would have been finished. There was no time to think further; they continued running as they watched the swarming zombies approach. A large number of zombies were lured away, and Donna led the others quickly into the city hall. As soon as they entered, two hunters attacked. Hru used the barrel of his Gatling gun like a club, smashing one hunter's head open, leaving the other helpless. The other hunter charged at Gianfer; Donna's pistol could only draw a few splatters of blood, unable to stop it. Retrieving her gun from her back was too late. Daisy ran to push Gianfer away, but found herself in the hunter's claws. Andrew, hiding behind Hru, suddenly turned red in the eyes and looked at the hunter, causing it to pause. This moment was well-timed; a huge figure appeared in front of Daisy, cleaving the hunter in two from head to toe.
"Francis?" Daisy said incredulously. Yes! It was Francis. Francis had searched all day yesterday without finding any trace of Daisy. He happened to come to the city hall and went in to clean an office to rest. All the things outside were brought here by Francis. In the morning, Francis was awakened by gunshots. He went to the window and glanced out. Seeing two mercenaries, he didn't care whether they lived or died. He planned to rest a little longer before going out to look for Daisy again. But then he saw Daisy and other people coming out of another intersection and entering the city hall. Francis excitedly ran downstairs and saw Daisy in danger.
"Francis!" Francis exclaimed. "Thank goodness, you're alright!"
"Who is he?" Donna asked curiously.
“Francis, one of our fighting forces before we were separated,” Janfer said, a sigh of relief in his heart upon seeing Francis.
"Huh? Miss Daisy has a husband?" Daudet said disappointedly.
After introducing themselves, everyone sealed the first-floor door shut. Francis sized up this group of mercenaries, whom Daisy had described as different. "You mean Anthony is dead, and a large number of tyrants have appeared?" Daisy exclaimed.
"What about Liu Chendong?" Janfer asked quickly. She liked this big boy very much, as did Emily. Even Andrew was very concerned about this older brother who wanted to see his little brother and whose belly was very comfortable.
“I don’t know, we got separated.” Francis said somewhat dejectedly, “But I think with his skills he shouldn’t be dead.”
"It's good to be alive. As long as you're alive, there's hope," Janfer said, as if trying to comfort himself.
“Alright everyone! We need to get down to business,” Donna interjected. “Mr. Hoffman, please begin.”
Hoffman nodded and walked straight to the second floor, followed by Gia muttering to herself, "I'm not a burden. I've been trained in combat and firearms."
"Has anyone been here before you?" Donna asked Francis as she approached him.
"No, I don't think so." Francis wasn't entirely sure either.
"So, have you searched this place carefully?" Donna asked again. "This is the city hall, so there should be some traces of this incident or some information about the island, such as some abandoned passages or something?"
“No,” Francis replied. “I wasn’t in the mood to look for those things.”
“Okay.” Donna shrugged. “Guys, search!” Hopefully Carlos and the others are alright.
"Yes." Daudet and Hru responded and began searching. Andrew walked to the window and looked out. Giampfer watched him from behind, feeling that Andrew was so different from the other children, not crying or making a fuss. He was even unusually quiet. Giampfer went over and hugged him from behind. "Child, your teacher is here for you, always will be."
Andrew's small body trembled slightly, but he quickly regained his composure and nodded gently.
Chapter 754 The Trials Intensify (1)
Huff! These things are really persistent! Carlos and Arno felt like their lungs were about to burst; the more zombies they killed, the more there seemed to be, with a few high-level ones popping up every now and then. They had no idea how far they had run, but both of them were exhausted.
"I...can't run anymore," Arno said. At first, the two tried to get a car, but every time they got close, one of those acid-spraying monsters would jump out and stop them. These things are intelligent? Impossible!
"Hang in there, I'm not willing to die here," Carlos said, he was also at his limit. His vision was blurry, and he saw a pair of red claws rapidly approaching.
"Bang!" Powerful! One shot blew the monster's head apart. Liu Chendong exclaimed, "No wonder it's a sniper rifle!" Carlos, who had been waiting to die, opened his eyes and saw a young man carrying a sniper rifle approaching, extending his hand. "Get up! Even though you're a mercenary, I can't watch you die at the hands of a monster." He pulled Carlos up, and a modified SUV pulled up. "Get in!" He helped the two into the car, and they continued on their way. Liu Chendong and his group had also set off early that morning, but they were going in a different direction, and quite far away. Thanks to Liu Chendong's martial arts skills and the cooperation of the others, they arrived safely, just in time to meet the exhausted Carlos and his companion.
"Where are you going?" Carlos observed them. If there was anyone with fighting ability, it seemed to be only that young man.
“The city hall has an old-fashioned radio machine there that can contact the outside world,” the survivor said. Hearing this, Carlos and Arno exchanged a glance. What if they discovered Hoffman's intentions and a conflict ensued? Because of Carlos, the road was crammed with zombies. The carnage and mangled limbs on the ground slammed into the tires.
“Damn it! We’re doomed!” Douglas shouted desperately from inside the car.
"Die my ass." Liu Chendong said irritably, then threw a grenade out of the sunroof. With a loud bang, it cleared a space, and the people in the car were shaken quite a bit. "Couldn't you at least let me know?" The car's hood was dented, and even the usually gentlemanly guy swore.
"Stop talking nonsense, drive fast, or we'll be dead!" Liu Chendong yelled.
"This kid... he's really hot-tempered," Arno said to Carlos. "Much more respectable than that taciturn Hru."
Carlos shook his head with a wry smile, then saw the young man lean out of the skylight with a sniper rifle, beginning to shoot down various types of tyrants. For some reason, the young man exuded an aura of determination, a will to survive, and watching him seemed to rekindle his own fighting spirit. Carlos also began firing from the welded gun, asking Douglas, who was observing the monsters nearby, "Isn't your friend afraid of getting hurt? You know, getting hurt can be..."
“It’s alright! He has armor. And Master was right about one thing!” Douglas said proudly, “You have to fight to survive.”
"That's right! I like it!" Arno exclaimed, leaning out of the sunroof to protect Liu Chendong from behind. Due to the road conditions, the SUV circled around for a long time without finding an opportunity to enter. Meanwhile, more and more Tyrants arrived, especially the acid-spraying Corrosives. Liu Chendong shot and blew up the upper half of one of the Corrosives; its many cannons exploded, and the flying acid splashed onto his hands, causing Liu Chendong to wince in pain.
"Holy crap! What's that?" Arno exclaimed from behind, and Liu Chendong turned around and gasped as well. It was a creature nearly seven meters tall, with four arms covered in powerful claws, a mouthful of sharp teeth protruding from its mouth, and gray skin that gleamed with a metallic sheen. There was even a face on its left chest.
"Baller!" Liu Chendong exclaimed. The guy in the passenger seat also had a glint in his eye. Was it him? The survivor wasn't sure either.
"Run!" Douglas shouted to Uncle John, who was driving.
With the accelerator floored, the SUV sped along, but couldn't shake off Baler at all. It seemed to defy gravity, running across the surface of the building, occasionally barking at the car. The car swerved and twisted, making it impossible for Liu Chendong to aim properly. "Uncle, drive more steadily."
"Steady my ass! Even Schumacher couldn't help in this situation," John retorted, but still tried to keep the car as steady as possible. Liu Chendong seized the opportunity and fired a shot into Barr's chest, causing a large spray of blood to erupt. The sniper rifle was quite powerful, creating a large hole that even revealed ribs and writhing internal organs, but granulation tissue quickly sprouted around the wound, healing at a visible speed. Seeing this, Liu Chendong was completely thrown into disarray. Damn! Fully resurrected? You must believe in Brother Chun! Perhaps Liu Chendong's attack enraged Barr, as it continued to run and chase along the building with its four legs, its extra two arms grabbing cars and other objects and throwing them at the SUV. John dodged with a high-flying maneuver. The attack was avoided, but Liu Chendong was also thrown out. Damn! I can be thrown out with my weight? In mid-air, Liu Chendong curled up to avoid serious injury upon landing. The people in the car were startled to see Liu Chengdong thrown out. "Let's lure that monster away and buy him some time," Douglas said to the others. Gunfire erupted, but Barr ignored it and walked towards Liu Chengdong. Liu Chengdong noticed this, immediately got up, picked up a motorcycle lying on the side of the road, hopped on, and shouted back, "You guys go to the city hall, I'll distract him." Then he sped away.
"Douglas shouted at Liu Chendong's retreating figure. Watching the massive figure following closely behind, no one believed Liu Chendong would return alive. "Alright, let's find a way to the city hall. Don't let Liu Chendong's efforts be in vain," Hattori said. The SUV circled around several more times before finally finding a small road. They abandoned the vehicle and walked to the tightly closed doors of the city hall. "I really didn't expect there to be no zombies here," John said in surprise.
"Looks like our bait worked pretty well," Carlos and Arno thought. Hattori stepped forward and gave it a nudge, then turned back and said, "It's locked. Well then, mercenary, open the door and let us in."
Because of the distance, Carlos's communicator was working again. He glanced at Arno and said, "Donna, open the door. We're back, and there are some friends with us."
Donna was looking at some documents that Hru and the others had found and discovered something interesting when Carlos's voice suddenly came through the communicator. Startled, she said, "Roger." Donna stood up and said, "Hru, Carlos is back, along with some others. Let's go downstairs. Dudley stays on the second floor. If they find any escape routes and try to seize them, shoot them dead."
Chapter 755 The Trials Intensify (2)
"Do you know the people inside?" the survivor asked Carlos.
“As you can see.” Carlos shrugged.
As the door slowly opened, the survivor lost interest in asking any further questions. Entering the city hall, Hattori glanced around before fixing his gaze on Francis. Francis also turned to look at the survivor. "Is it you?" they both asked silently. "It's you!!!"
"Hey! Do you think I'll see Sa Sa?" Liu Chendong asked, looking at the bloody scene around him. "There's not even a decent place to die. What a shame."
"Yes, you will!" Liu Chendong looked around, picked up a chair leg from the ground, bounced it around, and found it was pretty good.
"Ah! You're not going to use that, are you?" the survivor exclaimed in surprise. "This is going to leave me utterly mutilated!"
"If I don't blow your head off, you'll mutate." He said, looking at the fat man who had already started vomiting. "Ready?"
"Yes! I said if you see Bale, end his suffering too."
"Okay," Liu Chendong said, swinging the wooden stick in his hand...
Bang! Liu Chendong dodged the projectiles thrown by Bale again and drove his motorcycle into the industrial area. This island had been converted from an industrial island, retaining some factories for routine production. Liu Chendong entered a smelter; the entire factory area was deserted, but the blast furnaces were still emitting smoke. Liu Chendong abandoned his motorcycle, ran into the factory building, and found a sniping spot to hide. He wanted to fulfill his promise to Fatty and end Bale's suffering.
Barr pursued, not knowing why he was following this man, but an inescapable sense of familiarity compelled him to this place. Most of the scenery was red, like a thermal image; he saw the deep red blast furnace and the yellow figure of Liu Chendong. Watching Barr slowly approach, Liu Chendong pulled the trigger, the bullet aimed at Barr's head, but Barr blocked it with his hand. "Those claws are really hard," he thought, then immediately changed position and continued running towards the control room. Looking at the numerous buttons and levers, Liu Chendong was a little lost. He pressed one randomly, and saw a support frame in the distance move backward, causing a large barrel on it to sink. Liu Chendong's eyes lit up; looking at where Barr was coming from, he pressed the button again. The barrel fell, and Barr used his arm to knock away several, but there were too many, and he was quickly buried underneath, only his head remaining. Then the last barrel wobbled down, hitting him on the head. Liu Chendong took the opportunity to try the other buttons; he believed Barr wouldn't be killed so easily. Sure enough, Baler struggled to his feet again, but instead of immediately attacking Liu Chendong, he clutched his head and roared. Strange fragments flashed through his mind: someone important to him, yet he had lost him, and a figure... Who am I? Raising his hand, he saw a claw. Am I not human? No, I am human! Liu Chendong, watching Baler from the control room, didn't hesitate and began operating the machine. A massive guillotine slammed heavily onto Baler. Baler immediately scrambled to his feet. Who attacked me? Looking up, he saw Liu Chendong in the control room. It's you? Who are you? You seem so familiar.
Finally, the blast furnace collapsed, pouring its molten iron onto the still-struggling Baler. Liu Chendong, watching from afar, saw Baler swallowed by the iron torrent, watching him struggle, his lips trembling silently as he uttered his last breath.
“You said we could leave here,” John exclaimed.
“Yes, but not us, it was a group of people,” Donna said.
"So how did you allocate the spots?" the survivor interjected, not wanting to clash with Francis right now, and joined the others' conversation.
“The discoverer Hoffman and his granddaughter, two children, three women,” Donna said calmly. “Add a pilot, and that’s the maximum capacity of the plane.”
“And what about us?” John pressed.
"I'm sorry, without you all!"
“Why should I?” John said. “Say something! This is the fastest way to leave.”
“I don’t want to go,” Douglas said, bowing his head. “I’m going to wait for the guy to come back.”
“Yes, I can’t leave either,” the survivor said.
“You…” John said anxiously.
"Are you going to compete for this opportunity with people who have no chance to fight back?"
"Of course not, I'm sorry, I was just too excited to hear the news," John apologized sincerely.
At that moment, Hoffman appeared with a blueprint. "Because the rooms and corridors have changed over the years, I had to compare the blueprints again, which is why it took a little longer."
"It's nothing, can we go now?"
"of course."
“Hru and I will stay behind. Donna, Arno, and Daudet will escort them there.” “Yes, sir.”
Meanwhile, Francis was also trying to persuade Daisy to board the plane. Since Francis wasn't leaving, Daisy didn't want to go either. Francis had been trying to persuade her for a long time, and finally Daisy relented, promising Francis that she would find someone to rescue him as soon as they reached the outside world. Geoffrey also asked Francis to find Liu Chendong; she had deduced from the survivors' descriptions what kind of trouble Liu Chendong had encountered. After packing up again, everyone began to split into groups. "We must hold out until our rescue," Hoffman said, glancing back at the remaining group before leading Donna and the others away. Francis looked at everyone as they walked to one side. A survivor said to Carlos, "Let's go find the walkie-talkie." "Okay." Hopefully, things are going well with Donna...
