"Whoosh!" Hanks shouted excitedly, because he had just completed a perfect 90-degree drift, and the car also performed a super cool diagonal drift, with the maximum torque of 350 meters/7000 rpm bringing this "performance" to its extreme!
After being completely cured, Hanks felt utterly satisfied. This also made him realize that he actually had a talent for driving sports cars. Without further ado, Hanks happily turned on the GPS navigation system located in the center of the car, determined the shortest route to 514 Hospital, and then drove the car at full speed towards his destination!
Management of the book review section
From now on, all readers without fan points will be considered pirates. And please, stay away from the author's review section and point out any problems with my book; you have no right to do so. I sometimes check the review section, and if they are my readers, I might patiently answer their questions. As for those people, their posts will be deleted and they will be banned for a month. As for the later issues with the novel, ask those who are using which browsers and "magic tools." For the sake of promoting my book, I'm temporarily not implementing anti-piracy measures, but you can't let me go hungry. This isn't a request; those things will be revealed soon. I certainly won't let you see the exciting parts. I'll implement anti-piracy measures for the next book and write it seriously to infuriate those piracy freaks.

Chapter 510 Dangerous Street
About ten minutes later, Hanks parked the sports car perfectly in the parking space in front of the 514 Hospital and got out of the car triumphantly. Chris, on the other hand, swayed and opened the car door, stepped onto the hard ground as if dizzy, and started vomiting in the room while clutching his chest!
Hanks glanced at Chris smugly, a hint of disdain in his eyes, and said, "You can't even handle this short distance? I was wrong to have overestimated your abilities!"
Chris let out a hard breath, which made him feel a little better, but his head was still foggy and heavy. Ignoring Hanks's sarcasm, he just leaned on the car door and weakly asked, "Do you even know how to drive? And let me tell you, at the speed you were driving today, I have every reason to arrest you for the patrol officers!"
Hanks chuckled and said, "Of course I can drive, I just don't have a license. Judging from your expression, you've probably never enjoyed this kind of fun before! Hahaha..."
Hanks, who was laughing, suddenly stopped laughing when he saw the scene at the hospital entrance! Chris, who was next to him, sensed something was wrong and also looked towards the entrance. Although it was blurry, he could still make out the general outline clearly!
There were nearly fifty zombie corpses piled up, almost like a small hill!
Hanks was speechless. Beneath the pile of corpses, black blood flowed like a river, slowly entering the sewers not far from the pile. All the corpses had pairs of hideous and terrifying red eyes, but they had all become dull and lifeless due to the bullet holes in their skulls. The other corpses were also covered with dense bullet holes, with torn and rotten skin and flesh exposed!
Five meters away from the pile of corpses, lay another dozen or so soldiers in combat uniforms, their heads also pierced by bullets, their white brains splattered on the ground. Some were still in the firing positions they had just assumed. From a distance, it was truly a sight too painful to behold!
Hanks quickly told Chris what he had seen. Chris immediately understood; it seemed there were already many zombies here, and signs of a military battle. Weaver went forward and turned over a soldier's body lying on the ground, intending to investigate their identity. But as soon as he touched the soldier's body, he suddenly froze!
Hanks was puzzled. He quickly asked in a low voice, "What's wrong? Aren't these zombies dead yet?"
Chris frowned and replied with some concern, "These soldiers aren't zombies, they were just... shot!"
Hanks was somewhat incredulous. There were zombie corpses all around them, yet Chris insisted they'd been shot. Could zombies really use guns? If so, that would be terrifying! Even in movies, zombies hadn't mutated to this extent. Could it be due to geography and climate?
Hanks let his mind wander, increasingly convinced he'd come to the wrong place. Although he engaged in those shady deals solely for a large sum of money to secure a good hiding place, losing his life for it seemed like a terrible waste. After all, in the eyes of a wanted criminal like him, life was more important than money.
Just then, Chris slowly stood up, his slightly pale eyes following his thoughts. Only when he heard Chris speak did Hanks approach, constantly wary of the dark, foul-smelling corner around them, as if something might suddenly rush out and tear him apart.
Inside the towering ambulance building, faint, chilling roars could be heard—undoubtedly the aimless scrambling of zombies unable to find their way out. Chris drew his pistol and, in a slightly commanding tone, said to Hanks, "Go check the area for anything suspicious, and collect the weapons and ammunition from the dead soldiers. Remember, don't fire unnecessarily. I reckon this hospital is teeming with zombies; gunfire will attract them!"
After all, he had been doing this job for a long time. Chris usually appeared very calm when facing zombies, but Hanks was a bit different. He muttered a few words under his breath, and although he was reluctant, he still walked step by step towards those cold, hard corpses.
He first turned over the body of a soldier whose head had been blown off, took the QBZ56C short automatic rifle off his body and put it on his own, then the pistol, the short knife, and then two bullet magazines from his combat vest. He didn't even leave the tactical gloves behind, taking almost everything off the body before he moved on to the other corpses.
In the end, he was covered in guns, having collected nearly 150 rounds of automatic rifle ammunition and more than 30 rounds of pistol ammunition, making him look like an arms dealer.
Hearing Hanks' footsteps approaching, Chris asked, "Do you know how to use these guns?"
Hanks glared at him, knowing he couldn't see his expression, and replied with a hint of disdain, "You know how to use it? Don't underestimate me! When I was in America, I've seen all kinds of guns. You know, I used to be a riot police officer for Hydra!"
"So, you and I are in the same line of work?" Chris looked somewhat skeptical, but still offered some consideration. "Here's what we'll do: you keep the automatic rifle and dagger for self-defense, and give me the rest of the pistol and ammunition. We're likely to have a bloody fight once we get inside the building, and then I'll see what you, the 'riot police,' really like!"
"Hmph! Fine, then we'll fight our own battles. You fight yours, I fight mine. Just don't beg me for support!" With that, Hanks hugged his assault rifle and took a step forward, only to find himself stepping on some sticky liquid. Considering the corpses everywhere and the blood, it was normal, especially with so many zombies riddled with bullets and turned into blood-spraying cans. Stepping on it was disgusting, but not unacceptable.
Hanks glanced down casually, intending to avoid the nauseating slime, but after looking at it, he suddenly exclaimed "Huh?" and stopped in his tracks. Chris, who was following behind him, bumped into Hanks' back because he didn't notice Hanks' sudden stop. Chris shoved him and said, "What's wrong? Scared? Why aren't you moving?"
Hanks asked in surprise, "Why is this blood red?" In the dim light of the streetlights at the hospital entrance, Hanks discovered that the blood sticking to the soles of his feet was indeed bright red.
Chapter 511 Fierce Clash
There was none of the blackness that should be present in zombie blood here. Moreover, the bloodstains were intermittent, with only a few drops in some places and a pool in others, extending all the way to the underground passage near the north side of the hospital gate.
Hanks glanced at the passageway and saw a sign with the word "parking" on a metal pole between the two arched concrete entrances. Below it was a green pass sign, indicating that it was the entrance to an underground parking garage. However, for some reason, the other exit was blocked, and the red no-entry light was rather glaring.
The moment Chris heard the bright red blood on the ground, he bent down and touched the still-warm, not-yet-completely-dried blood. This made him realize that someone must have passed through here within a few minutes before he and Hanks arrived, and that the person was injured! Moreover, based on Hanks' observation, that person must have been a survivor, not only not turned into a zombie, but also managed to break through the zombie encirclement with injuries and escape towards the so-called underground parking lot!
Chris immediately stood up, glanced confidently in the direction of the underground parking lot, and then turned to Hanks, saying, "It seems we have to change our plans. There must be someone still alive in that underground parking lot. We have to try to rescue him first. Moreover, the fact that he was able to escape the zombies' attack range means he's no ordinary person!"
Hanks turned his head and was taken aback. He said, "What? Don't you want to treat your eyes first? Let me tell you, I don't have time to help you with this and that. If you want treatment, go treat it yourself. I'll wait here."
"Suit yourself then. If you want to wait here to be eaten by zombies, I won't stop you. Just don't blame me for breaking the contract!" Chris walked step by step towards the underground parking lot, relying on the only blurry images he could see, although his vision hadn't fully recovered. However, he could still clearly distinguish moving objects. It was precisely because he had withstood the zombie onslaught under these circumstances that he had been chosen by Vice Captain Liu Qiang and become a member of the team.
Hanks ignored him and plopped down in a dark corner near the hospital entrance, idly passing the time while inwardly grumbling about Chris, that idiot. These were dangerous times; a moment's carelessness could cost him his life. Preserving oneself was the best course of action. He couldn't understand Chris and his ilk; they were practically blind, yet still thinking about saving people. It was utterly incomprehensible! However, during their later escape, Hanks learned that the person Chris had rescued was none other than his own savior.
Hanks looked around. Just when he thought it was safe, he suddenly noticed that on the third floor of the No. 1 ambulance building, a zombie was clinging to the outside of a window with its arms outstretched. Its ferocious, blood-red eyes scanned the surroundings through the window, and bloodstains from its recent bites were still dripping from its mouth, as if it were searching for prey.
Chris's figure disappeared just as it entered the underground parking lot, unnoticed by the zombie. Hanks, however, felt a chill run down his spine! He slowly rose to his feet, his body arched, his eyes fixed on the zombie's every move. Then, using the darkness as cover, he hid in a secluded corner until the zombie turned away. Only then did he dash off in a hundred-meter sprint, disappearing into the underground parking lot entrance without looking back!
Hearing Hanks hoarsely chasing after him, Chris gave a helpless smile, shook his head, and said nothing. He continued to grope his way down the ground. Hanks followed behind, waiting for a while without hearing anything from Chris, before finally unable to contain himself and asking, "Hey, aren't you going to ask me why I followed you?"
Chris remained silent, which was actually a way of saying no. Even a fool would understand the reason; most people who are afraid of death are concerned about their reputation! Clearly, he was uneasy and was trying to come up with some plausible reasons for himself. Someone like Chris, who had seen countless things and could see through people's thoughts, would naturally not expose this. After all, he was a member of the infamous Hydra organization.
Seeing that Chris still didn't react, Hanks didn't bother to make a fool of himself. However, he still muttered to himself, trying to smooth things over: "Although I'm ruthless and don't sympathize with others, it would really damage my reputation to just watch a patient like you go to save someone. Oh well, it's not easy to be a good person, so consider it my way of protecting you! Although Hydra is also using me, Umbrella Corporation isn't much better."
Chris got goosebumps from those words; this was probably what "shameless" meant. He knew how shameless Hydra was, and although he wanted to kill the person next to him, he couldn't really justify it.
The passageway was quite spacious, and gusts of wind occasionally blew in, making one's spirits tremble! Moreover, the stench of blood emanating from the outside was also greatly reduced. If it weren't for the fact that the lights placed every two meters on the cement wall above had been smashed, one would really not know what had happened here.
The empty passageway was littered with shattered glass light boxes embedded in the anti-slip strip. Because of this, the broken lights were completely extinguished, some still hanging precariously with their wires, hissing and sparking. Aside from some light near the entrance, three or four wall lamps remained relatively intact from where the two stood until they reached the parking lot, illuminating only a small area. The rest of the passageway was pitch black.
The two walked another dozen steps or so before spotting a zombie lying in the middle of the passage. It lay on its back, head facing the entrance. While its body was relatively intact, its neck appeared to have been smashed open from the front, the white cervical vertebrae exposed. This caused its mouth to gape open, as if it were trying to scream a few more times before dying. Further ahead, severed limbs and blood splattered everywhere, clearly indicating a fierce battle had taken place there.
Without further hesitation, the two quickened their pace, hoping to see the man who had fought so valiantly alive again!
Once inside the underground parking lot, the vast space was filled with hundreds of cars of various brands, neatly arranged, but none of them were drivable; their owners were most likely already dead. The emptiness caused the few sounds inside to echo, making the two of them extremely alert.
Chapter 512 Unstoppable Momentum
In a corner, Hanks peeked out with half his head to observe the situation inside. What he saw almost made his jaw drop!
At the far end of the parking lot, around an ambulance, dozens of tattered, black, sticky zombies were relentlessly pounding on the vehicle, leaving numerous dents. One of them, however, was different from the others. In addition to its two arms, it had four spider-like legs and a worm-like head, making it look utterly disgusting! It was a human infected by a parasite, a successfully mutated individual.
Inside the car, two figures appeared to be struggling against the zombies' attacks, but they were on the verge of collapse...
Perhaps their attention was completely drawn to the two people in the ambulance, as none of the zombies noticed Chris and Hanks hiding behind an Iveco van. They continued to pound on the vehicle, which was already mangled, its shattered windshield a jumbled mess of broken glass, shards scattered everywhere, and the entire driver's cab reduced to scrap metal. Only the rear compartment remained, barely holding on. The zombies' bloodshot eyes were devoid of any willpower, filled only with a greedy, bloodthirsty rage.
Hanks crouched behind the Iveco van, straining the rearview mirror to get a clear view of the situation at the ambulance. Perhaps the impending ripping of the vehicle had greatly aroused the zombies; they were almost driven mad, baring their fangs and claws even more wildly. Three or four zombies had climbed onto the roof, seemingly trying to find a way in from above!
Hanks pulled back the bolt and began to carefully inspect the gun. He, who had been quite unsteady just moments before, was now much calmer, giving the impression that he was not afraid at all. However, Chris did not notice this; he still thought that Hanks beside him was trembling with fear.
Unlike Hanks, Chris was simply feeling around the car, seemingly searching for a specific part. Hanks whispered a reminder, "Hey! This isn't the time to think about stealing a car. Think about how to deal with all these zombies!"
Chris remained silent. He knew, of course, that there were many zombies not far away, but with only their weapons, they couldn't stop the encirclement of so many zombies. A safer approach was to find a better method. He slowly groped under the car for a while, finally feeling something bulging. Without a word, he pulled out his dagger and smashed it into the object!
Boom!
A sound like a dagger piercing something reached Hanks' ears. He looked down at the car and saw Hanks pull out the dagger, wipe it on his clothes, and then tuck it back into his belt. As the dagger was pulled out, a liquid with a pungent odor flowed from a hole in the fuel tank and spilled onto the ground with a splashing sound. Hanks quickly glanced in the rearview mirror and saw several zombies who seemed to have heard the commotion, but after a moment, they continued to bend down and smash the car.
"What are you doing...?" Hanks had already guessed most of what Chris was doing when he saw Chris's actions. Diesel fuel from the tank was constantly leaking onto the concrete floor and flowing away into the distance. Even the ground beneath their feet was covered in traces of the diesel fuel.
Chris wiped his face and said, "There are definitely too many zombies for the two of us to handle. The only way is to use the remaining fuel in these vehicles to create a fire to block them from rushing over. Then, it will be much easier for us to use our guns to fire at them."
"Aren't you afraid we'll burn ourselves down too? Besides, with so many vehicles, it's easy for them to explode if they come into contact with an open flame!"
"That's why we need to release this fuel. However, those cars are a bit more difficult to deal with. All we can do is try to avoid them. If anyone gets accidentally blown up, they can only blame their own bad luck." With that, Chris gripped his pistol. At this distance, using a sniper rifle would be tantamount to suicide; in close combat, a pistol is far more advantageous.
Seeing that everything was ready, Chris added, "Oh, right! Don't stand in front of me when you fire. You know, right now, I'm open to shooting anything that can move. I might even mistake you for a charging zombie!"
"So what do we need to do now?" Hanks asked.
"Fire one shot, then back up! Lure them into this diesel area as much as possible and burn them!" Chris gestured, and Hanks understood. He jumped out, steadily aimed his automatic rifle at the head of a zombie that had climbed onto the truck bed, and pulled the trigger. Because automatic rifles have a high rate of fire and significant recoil, continuous fire would inevitably affect accuracy and waste bullets, so Hanks opted for a clean burst!
"Pfft!" The zombie's head exploded! The high-speed bullet pierced the zombie's head and then slammed into the hard cement wall, leaving a small hole. A pool of black blood gushed out at the same time, splashing like ink around the hole and flowing down the wall.
Upon hearing a loud gunshot, all the zombies immediately noticed Hanks, who was "ambushing" them from a distance. Their eyes widened in anger, and their mouths opened wide with blood. They then put down the nearly wrecked ambulance, pushed aside the fallen zombies, and staggered toward where the two were standing!
Seeing these disgusting creatures, Hanks couldn't help but fire a few more shots. However, the zombies that were hit only swayed a few times before continuing to move forward, their speed increasing considerably! Hanks was still not satisfied and was about to fire a few more shots when he saw the four-legged zombie leap onto the roof of a car, sticking out a two-meter-long tongue. As if enraged, it pounced on Hanks without hesitation!
Seeing that Hanks hadn't moved after firing, Chris immediately shouted, "Run!" Hanks heard this, yelled "Oh my god!", and immediately turned and ran like a shot, not forgetting to fire a few more shots at the monster, but it was just a waste of bullets.
The strange zombie was significantly faster than the slower ones. It leaped across several vehicles before reaching the diesel section, its belly still protruding like a centipede's, segmented and constantly wriggling! The other zombies were still about six or seven meters away from the diesel section. Chris could still make out the distance through his blurry pupils. He didn't fire rashly; that would only waste such a trap.
Chapter 513 Powerful Mutant Zombies
When he saw the person fleeing for his life, Chris naturally knew it was Hanks. He moved his gun and aimed it at the rather tall, dark figure behind him. This was the first time he had encountered a zombie that could jump like this. He guessed that, as Hanks had said, the virus inside these zombies had undergone a new mutation! Perhaps it was partly due to the parasite genes.
Chris fired three shots in quick succession. Although he didn't know where he hit the mutated zombie's body, he successfully slowed it down and blocked it in that large diesel field. Hanks, who had run over, didn't even have time to catch his breath. He turned around and fiercely gripped the trigger at the monster that was chasing him.
The muzzle flashes illuminated the underground parking lot, casting flickering shadows of the twenty-odd zombies that had entered the diesel section. Hanks shouted, "That's enough!" Without hesitation, Chris aimed at the Iveco van and, relying on his instincts, fired a shot into the oil slick on the ground.
With a whoosh, a huge fire erupted and spread rapidly in the direction the oil had flowed! A dozen or so zombies were instantly engulfed in the flames, their flailing figures casting long shadows on the walls. Perhaps the light of the flames caused them pain; they began to roar angrily, trying to escape the inferno, but after taking a few steps, they collapsed, becoming burning corpses.
The ever-growing flames continued to erode the bodies of several other cars nearby, and the interiors of those cars slowly caught fire as well. After a while, the heated fuel tanks finally succumbed to the high temperature and exploded with a bang. Several zombies that were lucky enough to escape the fire were also blown to pieces by the violent explosion, falling to the ground and becoming countless burning things!
The other zombies that managed to bypass the fire were easily beheaded by Hanks. In the vast underground parking lot, only the flickering flames remained; the ferocious roars were gone, and the burning vehicles crackled and popped. The only smell that filled the nostrils was the toxic odor of burning leather.
Seeing that there were no more living zombies, Hanks and Chris breathed a sigh of relief. However, they still knew that the gunshot would attract zombies from other areas to the parking lot. It was only a matter of time before they encountered hordes of zombies again. What they needed to do now was to rescue the two survivors trapped in the ambulance and leave the area.
The ambulance in the distance was now very quiet, and there was no movement from the two survivors inside. Chris's heart tightened: "Could it be that they have already...?" Then he and Hanks slowly approached the ambulance, but they did not lower their guns. If the two people inside had really turned into zombies, they would shoot them without mercy.
Approaching the vehicle, Hanks crept forward. The windows, battered and scratched by blood-stained zombie hands, were now completely obscured by black blood, making it impossible to see inside. Hanks slowly opened the two rear doors, while Chris stood guard behind. The moment he opened the doors, Hanks' face was filled with bewilderment. Just moments ago there were two figures moving about; now, apart from a few stretchers and first-aid equipment, the interior was completely empty!
Just then, Hanks felt a gust of wind past his ear, and before he could turn his head, he was knocked to the ground by a colossal creature leaping out of the sea of fire, his pistol sliding aside! He struggled to his feet, feeling the creature incredibly close, though he couldn't see its face. He clearly saw the creature baring its rough, bloody teeth at him!
Hanks hurriedly fired at the enormous creature, the bullets whizzing and splattering blood all over its body, but still couldn't stop the monster from taking a bite. It was unbelievable that this mutated zombie hadn't died in that fire!
Just as Hanks was about to be dismembered, a shotgun blast came from behind the monster. Then, the mutated zombie's head, with its two-meter-long tongue lolling out, exploded into a bloody pulp! Its massive headless body collapsed limply, twitching a few times before falling still.
Before Hanks could react, a strong arm had already grabbed his throat, and a sharp dagger was stopped two centimeters from his neck. Chris, on the other hand, had a shotgun pressed against his temple!
Upon seeing the two men suddenly appear, Hanks wisely kept his mouth shut. A moment later, a surprised voice came from behind Chris: "You are... Chris?!"
Half an hour later, with a muffled thud as the iron gate closed, Chris and his group of four, after a fierce battle, finally escaped the underground parking lot safely and got rid of the pursuit of nearly fifty zombies. They arrived at the storage warehouse of the No. 2 Rescue Building. Although they could hear the banging on the door from time to time, the heavy iron gate could completely keep the many zombies out.
This is a large warehouse where most of the hospital's used medicine bottles and syringes are stored. Near the warehouse door, there are several boxes of well-packaged new medicines that have not been opened and must have just been delivered. More than a dozen concrete pillars support the roof of the warehouse. In Chris's view, as long as the zombies cannot climb the roof, they are absolutely safe!
Chris and Leon carefully supported Weaver, who had been shot in the shoulder. The run had caused his wound to bleed even more, and now Weaver's face was almost completely pale, his skin as white as paper. If the bullet wasn't removed from his body in time and the bleeding wasn't stopped, this usually strong and tough man probably wouldn't last much longer.
After confirming that the zombies couldn't get in, they helped Weaver sit down against the wall, and the three of them could finally rest and catch their breath.
Chris groped around the walls and found a light switch. He pressed it, and all the lights in the warehouse came on. This brought a small measure of comfort to the few people who always longed for light.
