"What is this thing? This is definitely not an ordinary zombie." Leon struggled to his feet and raised his dagger, ready to stab the zombie.
"Roar!" The zombie slammed into Leon again, knocking him to the ground once more. The dagger in Leon's hand fell to the side as a result.
"Fuck!" Leon shook his head, still a little dizzy from the impact, and cursed under his breath. Leon's original combat ability was quite good, but unfortunately, he encountered ordinary zombies that had been enhanced by the T-virus and rabies virus, making them extremely powerful.
"Roar!" Just as the zombie's bloody mouth was about to bite Leon, a flash of cold light appeared.
"Crack..." The zombie's head fell off with a crisp sound; the person holding the dagger was Claire. (To be continued...)
Chapter 282 Bullseye
When Leon, the Green Hornet, and the others found what they needed, they found a place to rest, which made them feel much better at the end of the day.
The next day, the sunlight in Raccoon City gently streamed into the room through the windowpane. Because of the sunlight, the figures of several people in the originally dark room appeared in the darkness, but nothing else happened.
Just then, the sound of a window shattering came from inside, followed by the loud bang of a sniper rifle. It was clear that the survivors had been targeted by a sniper.
"It's an assassin, looks pretty good in combat." Wade used teleportation to run outside and fight the assassin briefly. Finding the opponent's strength considerable, he shouted. Then, he prepared to attack with his katana; his ability was to accelerate the blade, allowing Deadpool to easily cut bullets.
“Interesting prey. Red Skull is right. The survivors of the Umbrella Corporation are quite interesting. That’s what makes it interesting.” A voice came from Bullseye’s mouth.
"What's going on? Who's that person outside?" Before Claire could figure out what was happening, a sniper bullet moved from the bullseye.
"Bang!" The sniper bullet exploded like a bomb upon hitting the ground, releasing a strong flame and odor from the blast site.
"Damn it, I got hit!" Claire exclaimed, clearly feeling unlucky.
"Run! Go through the back door!" Leon shouted as he ran to the back door and quickly opened it. Then, he picked up his assault rifle and surveyed the area.
"How could there be a sniper? Wasn't there no survivor in this place?" A series of questions filled Claire's mind, and her suspicions about Hydra deepened.
"Stop talking, run that way!" Leon shoved Claire, who was still standing there, and ran off. The Green Hornet and Deadpool were hit several times by special bullets, but neither of them was injured. Clearly, they both possessed superpowers.
While Bullseye was attacking the Green Hornet and Deadpool, Leon and Claire arrived in front of a relatively tall building.
"Should we go in?" Claire asked, looking at Leon who was still walking forward with a puzzled expression.
“Yes, we need to avoid the sniper’s range. After all, we’re just ordinary people; we can’t possibly have the powers of mutants or superheroes,” Leon said seriously.
They went inside the building. Everything seemed so neat and normal. Leon took out a first-aid kit and bandaged Claire's injured arm; shrapnel from the earlier explosion had hit him there.
“We finally made it from the edge of Raccoon City to the city center. To let the company know what’s going on here, we should head back,” Leon said earnestly. This period had been very difficult for him.
"Why do you say that? What do you want to tell me?" Claire asked, puzzled.
“Why? Because it’s my duty. I’m an employee of Umbrella Corporation,” Leon said calmly. “Because you are all people connected to the company, I have to take you all away from here one by one.” A genuine sincerity was evident on Leon’s face.
"Thank you so much, Lyon. I might not be alive today if it weren't for you guys," Claire said after a moment's thought.
"Speaking of which, we've really been lucky. We've encountered good things time and time again, but what I really didn't expect is that our luck is truly extraordinary. We've managed to keep you out of danger every time, and hopefully it can continue like this." Leon smiled, trying to ease his mind, but their good luck was probably about to run out.
"What was that sound?" A sudden gunshot shattered the tranquility.
“It’s him. That guy finally couldn’t hold back anymore. It seems they were temporarily tied up with other things.” Leon looked towards the source of the voice. “Looks like we need to hurry over and help them,” Leon said to Claire.
In another room, Bullseye had already hit the Green Hornet, and the two were facing off.
"How...how is this possible? Why are you so powerful?" Blood was still gushing from Green Hornet's arm. "Why...why is this happening?" Green Hornet stared at Bullseye's sniper rifle with obvious resentment.
At that moment, a man's figure slowly appeared in front of the Green Hornet. "Your companion has been blocked by members of Hydra, and there are also some pursuers there, so your friend will not be coming for the time being."
"Looks like you're very well prepared." The Green Hornet's body was still trembling, which, according to Bullseye, was from the excruciating pain in his arm, constantly pounding against his own pain receptors.
"Why? Don't you know?" Bullseye stared at the Green Hornet. "You're just pawns in my game, paid for your services. If Hydra hadn't released this new virus here, the zombies wouldn't have left." Bullseye said with a laugh. "Haha, your biggest weakness is that you don't have superpowers, just like Daredevil." Bullseye continued to compare himself to his opponent in front of the Green Hornet.
"That sounds right, but you don't actually have superpowers. Your strength is at most comparable to Green Arrow from the Justice League or Hawkeye from S.H.I.E.L.D." the Green Hornet said sarcastically.
Then, the Green Hornet suddenly pulled out his dagger and stabbed it straight at Bullseye.
Bullseye blocked the knife aimed at his chest with his sniper rifle, but the dagger still grazed the rifle, leaving a shallow mark on his weapon.
"Is that all?" Bullseye shook his head, watching as the Green Hornet was instantly knocked unconscious. The Green Hornet, as if he had used up all his strength in an instant, slowly collapsed to the ground.
Bullseye glanced disdainfully at the Green Hornet lying on the ground and muttered to himself, "Hmm, I won't kill you now. It's very important that you don't have the mutated virus." Bullseye said to himself as he looked at the unconscious Green Hornet.
After saying that, Bullseye led the Green Hornet away from the place, preparing to find Red Skull to get what they wanted.
"Beep..." After a mechanical sound, the elevator doors opened. "Welcome, Mr. Bullseye. Did you find what I needed?" A voice came from in front of Wade.
"Hmm? Oh, it's Dr. Marcus! I think I've got what you needed." Bullseye looked at the man in front of him calmly.
“Bullseye, did you bring the stuff?” Marcus asked, still expressionless.
“Of course, so I definitely keep it with me,” Bullseye said calmly.
"What? Don't you want to hand it over?" Marcus looked calmly at Bullseye, while the Hydra soldiers beside him also raised their weapons.
“Of course not, what use would I have for that thing? I’m not a genius like you, Dr. Marcus. But I think the price needs to be renegotiated.” Bullseye smiled slowly and said seriously.
“Well, price is no problem, of course, but we want you to deliver the item to us intact. We’re willing to pay double the previous hiring fee,” Marcus said nonchalantly.
"Of course, but I hope to get your help, which will make it easier to retrieve the items. Of course, it would be best if we could get the T-virus enhancement; I'd like to have Captain America's power too," Bullseye said fervently.
"Of course, as long as you can bring us the goods, we're open to any conditions. There's no problem with that." Marcus said dismissively, looking at Bullseye with disdain. If Bullseye weren't quite strong, he would have already killed that guy. (To be continued...)
Chapter 283 Hydra Research Institute
Humans always have endless ideas, and everyone has all sorts of beliefs and ideas about all sorts of things. Tang Tian's appearance led to a different path in another Marvel universe.
"Wade, where's the Green Hornet? And the sniper too? What happened?" Leon's questioning voice echoed in Deadpool's ears. There was clearly more to the story than met the eye; Hydra had indeed found the right target—the Green Hornet possessed the special T-virus that Hydra needed.
"I don't know, because I was also attacked. It was by trackers with the Hydra symbol, and there were a lot of them, so I was drawn into their firepower. That's probably when the Green Hornet was captured." Deadpool shook his head and gave his analysis, his eyes behind the mask looking somewhat strange.
"The Green Hornet shouldn't be a member of the Watchmen, otherwise he wouldn't be so weak in combat. Superhero organizations are all people with multiple superpowers," Deadpool thought to himself, making his analysis.
On the streets of Tokyo's Raccoon City, the city center seems to have been forgotten by the world, with no one cleaning up the bustling buildings in the streets and alleys.
Raccoon City, filled with abandoned cars, scattered garbage, and zombies, testified to the danger of the T-virus outbreak. Marcus indeed released a mutated rabies virus into Raccoon City, exacerbating the already dire situation for the island nation, which could have held out for some time. Destruction was officially on its countdown. Some mutants and high-ranking officials, realizing the danger, fled to America to escape the annihilation, taking with them most of the funds and research results. This benefited Umbrella Corporation, Osborn, and Stark Industries, and even Batman and Doctor Doom reaped significant profits.
The Times Square fountain, not far from Raccoon City, looks quite old, with its sculptures. They appear so worn, yet the sculpture depicts an angel wielding a holy sword, riding a horse, the sword seemingly poised to pierce the heart of darkness. The statue is so lifelike; you can almost hear him shouting his battle cry. Sadly, no one can stop it now. Perhaps only the simultaneous appearance of superheroes, mutants, and Inhumans, or the Sentinels, Doctor Manhattan, and the Living Tribunal, could succeed. Otherwise, this is the fate of the zombie heroes in the comics.
“Dr. Marcus, it seems that Hydra has developed very rapidly. I know the strength of Umbrella Corporation, but you have managed to strike them down to this extent.” Bullseye was still very interested in Hydra, at least much stronger than Kingpin, whom he currently served. The strength of Hydra since World War II is unimaginable.
"Bullseye, you are an excellent assassin. Whether it's melee weapons or firearms, you can use them perfectly." Marcus said simply, his tone full of admiration for Bullseye, "Your attack power is so perfect."
"What are you talking about, Dr. Marcus? We're all smart people, we can't waste our time here. If we don't leave Tokyo soon, we'll be in danger," Bullseye advised Marcus. Hydra's headquarters are located in Raccoon City, which is why Hydra can obtain other viruses.
“Don’t rush, young man,” Marcus said slowly. “Let’s take a good look at my research institute located here.”
"You really aren't worried at all, Dr. Marcus." Bullseye thought to himself, somewhat speechless. He didn't know why Marcus remained unmoved despite hearing about the danger, whether it was due to his own strength or some other reason.
“Okay, let’s go then. I also want to see how weapons are developed for Hydra.” Bullseye said, looking at Marcus in front of him.
Marcus and Bullseye entered the research institute together. It resembled a mansion, much like the place where he had researched the T-virus. Various experimental subjects were scattered throughout. The early Tyrants and Nemesis were all here, but unlike the others, each bioweapon bore the Hydra skull symbol.
On the other side, Claire asked, puzzled, "Leon, who do you think that sniper is working for? What is his purpose?"
“I think Hydra is the most likely culprit. The current state of Raccoon City and the Arklay Mountains is all the result of Hydra,” Leon said seriously after a moment’s thought.
"What? You're saying that guy is a mercenary working for Hydra?" Claire asked Leon, looking puzzled.
“No, he’s an assassin,” Leon said firmly. “He was a top assassin who worked for Kingpin, and now he might be employed by Hydra again.”
"How did you know?" Claire asked, puzzled.
“Because I work for Umbrella Corporation, the chairman has taught me a lot of things,” Lyon said earnestly, a hint of something flickering in his eyes.
"Back then, the T-virus leak occurred in the Akurey Mountains of Tokyo. And at that time, I was fighting in the virtual world under the chairman's orders," Leon said slowly.
"A virtual world?" Claire thought to herself, puzzled.
“That’s right, it’s a virtual world, a world that looks just like the real world. I experienced the same things as in Raccoon City in that world. The chairman probably knew all along, which is why he did this,” Leon said calmly.
“Yes, that’s a very good analysis. That’s probably it,” Claire said to Leon with a smile.
“That’s right, and I know that guy is an assassin who works for money. He’s Daredevil’s main enemy, and he’s currently working for Hydra. His name is Bullseye, and he’s best at using long-range weapons,” Leon continued.
While Leon and his team were analyzing the situation, in a white space, a huge mutated zombie was charging towards a group of Hydra members.
"For Hydra, let's test this thing's combat capabilities with ourselves," said one of the captain-like figures, who had a skull insignia on his shoulder. Then, they quickly opened fire, bullets relentlessly striking the massive mutated zombie.
At that moment, the giant mutated zombie picked up a piece of concrete floorboard and threw it forcefully at the group of people.
Screams echoed through the white experimental field as Marcus paid the price of his death to test the creature's combat capabilities for Bullseye.
"You're surprised, aren't you? That's not the T-virus. As you can see, that virus is the third one we recently acquired from Umbrella Corporation, and its destructive power surpasses the previous two viruses," Marcus said excitedly, as if recounting something exciting.
Bullseye was very puzzled by Marcus's words. He thought for a moment and asked, "What grudge do you have against Umbrella Corporation that makes you so eager to destroy this super corporation?"
“I just want revenge, revenge on everyone in this company,” Marcus said angrily.
"I cultivated the T-virus, perfected the manufacture of these viruses, and then my achievements came to the attention of the Umbrella Corporation. Unfortunately, they took my research results." (To be continued...)
Chapter 284 Winning Over
Bullseye was very interested in Marcus's background and wanted to know why a brilliant scientist like Marcus would betray Umbrella Corporation.
"So that's how it is. Umbrella Corporation is in trouble then. You were the developer of the T-virus. That explains why you were able to attack so many Umbrella bases." Bullseye nodded. He finally understood why this former genius had done such a thing.
"Another genius of revenge? How interesting. Erica is also Kingpin's subordinate. Like the Green Hornet, he has the ability to use various fighting techniques and weapons." Bullseye thought to himself. He knew that Marcus was truly extraordinary; he possessed power based on the T-virus.
"Speaking of which, I'm a little curious. Why don't those zombies stay in the city like they used to, but instead specifically seek out places with living people? Can you tell me?" Bullseye said with some doubt.
“Of course, I need to answer your question.” Marcus nodded and continued to explain: “Speaking of which, this is also the result of Umbrella Corporation’s research. I studied the components of these viruses, and their spread rate, infectivity, and even local special mutations are all above the T virus. So since I obtained these viruses, I have been trying to fuse the two viruses together.”
"So what's the result? Dr. Marcus, how's your research going? Has it been successful?" Bullseye continued to ask. He wasn't interested in whether the virus would infect the world, because he was confident in his own abilities.
“Of course, my research was successful. The T-virus and the mutated rabies virus were successfully fused, and I even used it in the field of biological weapons,” Marcus said calmly, then looked up at Bullseye and continued, “What you see is the new biological weapon I researched. I obtained the cells of those special zombies from that small island in Tokyo. I added tank genes to the Tyrant's cells and made it so that it could be mass-produced quickly. I also added and fused the Tracker and other biological weapons to them, and these resulted in the virus.”
“Of course, I know of your talent, Dr. Marcus. You are also the founder of Umbrella Corporation.” Bullseye greatly admired Marcus’s talent, so he said this.
“Actually, in my eyes, Hydra is just a small pawn in my game,” Marcus said with a smile. “They work for me only for themselves; they want power, so they need to cooperate with me.”
Bullseye suddenly smiled. He said to Marcus seriously, "Heh, Dr. Marcus, all that you've said is part of your plan."
“Good, that's all I have to say. I need a strong subordinate. Hydra is still useful to me, and I will acquire the organization at the appropriate time. I will gather more capable people and give you power.” Marcus was quite satisfied with Bullseye; what he needed now was to build his own power base.
“Of course, I need your offer of power. However, I cannot rely on you for now.” Bullseye took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a drag.
"Well, that's all I wanted to say," Bullseye said calmly, exhaling a puff of smoke.
“Yes, a wise choice. You can come over when the time is right. I need the capable people I need.” A smile appeared on Marcus’s simulated leech face.
