When I opened my eyes again, my heart skipped a beat...
Chapter Thirty-Seven: Like a Lifetime Away
The sun shone brightly, as if a layer of golden sand had been sprinkled before my eyes. A sweet and lovely girl was sleeping peacefully in my arms, her long eyelashes drooping.
Looking at the girl in my arms, I suddenly felt nervous. Although her clothes were intact, I still had an inexplicable feeling.
There's always a difference between men and women, and I feel I went a bit too far. Last night I was delirious with illness, feeling lonely and scared. In a moment of impulse, I actually left Tang Ning in my room.
Although I'm not exactly a saint, I'm still quite conservative at heart. I've always believed that if I fall in love with someone, I should be faithful to them, and if I take advantage of someone, I should be responsible for them.
So, did I get the better deal from Downing?
Although Tang Ning's clothes were neat, she was currently curled up in my arms. And the way we were positioned made it seem as if I was the one holding her. Even though Tang Ning was sweet and lovely, I couldn't help but feel sad. After all, we had spent the night together, and this wasn't right. What would I say if Zhang Xuan found out?
Thinking about this, I panicked even more. I wanted to stay away from Tang Ning, but seeing her sleeping so peacefully, I couldn't bear to disturb her. She was just so adorable, and her quiet sleeping face made her seem so innocent. If I took advantage of her and then pushed her away, wouldn't I be even more irresponsible?
This is agonizing; every minute is torture for me right now. I never dreamed that the first girl I'd spend the night with wouldn't be Zhang Xuan.
About ten minutes later, I saw Tang Ning stir slightly. She opened her eyes and looked at me with bright eyes. She seemed a little surprised when she looked at me. Then, her cute little face instantly turned red.
Are you feeling better?
"Hmm..." After a good night's sleep, I feel much better now.
"I'm feeling better..." Her face turned even redder, and she quickly got up and ran out of the room.
Even after she left, her lingering fragrance remained in the room. I couldn't resist lifting the covers to peek inside, then glanced outside again, feeling annoyed. My heart started pounding wildly…
Why is she blushing? Did I do something inappropriate last night?
Trying hard to recall, I suddenly remembered a few scenes from last night. I was already quite delirious with fever last night, but I still remembered a few things.
I think I really did take advantage of her quite a bit. Thinking about this, I slapped my forehead in frustration.
Oh no, I made a mistake.
Another half hour passed, and my bedroom door was pushed open. Tang Ning seemed to have just taken a shower; her hair was still wet, and she smelled fresh. She was holding a small bowl in her hand. Tang Ning's eyes met mine, and her face flushed again. She quickly looked away from me and sat down on the edge of my bed, saying, "Are you hungry? I'll feed you something."
"Where are your uncle and aunt?" I asked her cautiously.
"My dad isn't home, he seems to have gone to the factory. My mom isn't home either, she seems to have gone to work. This is the porridge she cooked this morning. She left me a note asking me to heat it up for you. I'll feed you some; the more you eat, the faster you'll recover." Tang Ning's voice was very soft, and her originally snow-white ears were now red.
"Tang Ning, last night I..." Looking at the small bowl she was holding, my tone was indescribably awkward.
"You took advantage of me last night!" Suddenly, Tang Ning raised her eyes and glared at me fiercely.
"Huh!?" Hearing Tang Ning's words, my face became even more embarrassed.
"Well, fine, you've already taken advantage of me. It's your own fault for being sick and pitiful. If you dare to take advantage of me again, I'll castrate you!" Tang Ning said, glaring at me fiercely.
"I'm sorry..." Hearing Tang Ning's words, I felt incredibly sad.
"Hehe, you were calling me 'Mom' last night." Tang Ning suddenly laughed.
"Huh? I called you Mom?" I looked at her in surprise.
"Yeah, you were delirious with fever last night, and you kept calling for my mom. I was a little angry and wanted to push you away, thinking you were deliberately taking advantage of me. But you looked so pitiful, so I couldn't bring myself to do it. Never mind, let's not talk about it anymore." Tang Ning pouted, then scooped up a spoonful of porridge and fed me.
"I'm so sorry..." I really don't remember what I did last night, only a few things. Looking at Tang Ning now, I feel incredibly guilty.
"It's okay, you didn't really do anything to me anyway. Don't worry, I won't tell Zhang Xuan." Tang Ning smiled and her eyes crinkled.
"Hmm..." I nodded gently.
"Do you really like Zhang Xuan?" Tang Ning suddenly asked me.
"Yes, I really like her, and I've liked her for a long time." I nodded.
"Oh..." Tang Ning fell silent after hearing what I said.
The room quickly fell silent. Tang Ning quietly fed me porridge without saying a word. I didn't speak either, still feeling guilty about what happened last night. I quietly finished the porridge, and then Tang Ning took the small bowl and left. She then poured me water and gave me my medicine, taking excellent care of me. She even washed a towel and wiped my face. As she wiped my face, I couldn't help but think to myself, whoever finds a girlfriend as wonderful as Tang Ning must be very happy.
Around noon, Uncle Tang and Aunt Tang returned one after the other. They seemed unaware that Tang Ning and I had spent the night together, and my expression appeared perfectly normal. They were very kind to me and concerned about me. They touched my forehead and asked what I wanted to eat.
I'm still feeling a bit unwell; I only had a small bowl of porridge this morning and then lost my appetite. I gently shook my head and said I didn't want anything to eat.
Today is Monday. Tang Ning took care of me all morning and I didn't go to school. At one o'clock, Tang Ning came in and said to me, "I have to go to school now. You should sleep well this afternoon, and I'll come back to take care of you tonight."
"Will you stay with me tonight?" I asked, my eyes wide with surprise.
"What's wrong? Don't you need me to keep you company?" Tang Ning blinked.
After staring at each other for about ten seconds, Tang Ning's face flushed red again. Then she glared at me and said, "What are you thinking? I'm only staying with you tonight, I'm not spending the night with you!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I was startled by you, I thought you were going to spend the night with me again..." Hearing Tang Ning's words, my face turned red.
Then I watched Tang Ning walk out. She put on her coat and came back in to say goodbye. As she was about to leave, I suddenly felt so lonely and isolated.
Although Uncle Tang would take care of me in the afternoon, his heroic image frightened me. I wasn't very familiar with Uncle Tang, not as well as I was with Tang Ning.
After thinking for a moment, I struggled to get up and said to Tang Ning, "I also want to go to school with you."
"No, you still have a fever, so don't go to school. I'll ask your teacher for leave for you, and you can rest at home." Tang Ning immediately refused me.
I'm still a little sad, but I feel so lost without Tang Ning. I don't know why, but I suddenly really want to be close to Tang Ning. Then I thought of Zhang Xuan, and my desire to go to school became even stronger. We didn't even have time to say goodbye when I left her house, and I haven't been in touch for the past two days, so I don't know how she is. I miss her terribly; she doesn't even know I came to Tang Ning's house. I remember she cried when I left; I wonder if she's been crying these past few days.
My desire to go to school grew stronger, and I started to persevere. Tang Ning and Uncle Tang saw how much I wanted to go to school and, unable to persuade me otherwise, finally agreed.
When we were going to school, Uncle Tang draped his mink coat over my shoulders. Then he drove me and Tang Ning to school.
Tang Ning's car was a Land Rover Range Rover, a black SUV that looked very imposing. As the car drove towards the school, I saw many people on both sides of the road looking at our car.
After I put on Uncle Tang's mink coat, I looked much more wealthy.
When the car stopped at the school gate, I saw many students who had just entered the school looking at our car. After Tang Ning and I got out of the car, I saw some students in the crowd shout.
"Oh my god, isn't that Wang Xi from Class 1? His family drives a Range Rover!?"
"Holy crap, there's also the top female student in our school!"
"Damn, he's even wearing a fur coat. Holy crap, what's going on?!"
Still weak, Tang Ning stood beside me, supporting my arm. As Tang Ning and I walked step by step towards the campus, our surroundings suddenly erupted in commotion.
Because I'm quite famous, but not for a good reason. Because of Zhang Xuan's incident and the repeated beatings I received, almost half of my classmates at school know me.
I was portrayed as poor, down on my luck, and a loser. But now, when they saw me arriving at school in such a nice car and walking with the beautiful Tang Ning, they couldn't help but gasp in surprise.
I was getting annoyed by their stares and constant pointing. I thought to myself, so what if I rode in a nice car? And walking with Tang Ning, am I not good enough for her? Just because I'm not doing well, does that mean I don't deserve to walk with pretty girls?
Listening to their constant gossip about us only made me more annoyed. Just then, a familiar voice came from behind us, "Wang Xi, is that you?"
Chapter Thirty-Eight: Your Bracelet is Wrong
Hearing that familiar voice, I couldn't help but stop in my tracks. My heart skipped a beat, and my body trembled. Dressed in an expensive coat, I carefully turned around with Tang Ning's help. When I saw that familiar, pretty face, my eyes instantly welled up with tears.
At that moment, I suddenly felt a surge of strength. I gently raised my right hand, signaling Tang Ning to let me go. Then, I strode towards her. Ignoring the stares of everyone around us, I pulled her delicate body into my arms.
At that moment, I cried. Holding her delicate body tightly, I couldn't help but shed tears.
Although it's only been three days since I last saw her, it feels like a lifetime has passed. I've realized just how much I love her. I can't bear to be apart from her for even a second. And thinking back to how Tang Wendi tormented me, I feel an indescribable sense of grievance.
"Wang Xi, is it really you?" Her voice sounded very aggrieved as I held her tightly.
“It really is me! Sister, I missed you so much…” I hugged her and cried as I spoke to her.
"You didn't leave?" she asked me.
“Yes, I didn’t leave. I can’t live without you…” I said.
"Really?" Hearing my words, she couldn't help but hug me tighter.
Time seemed to stand still in that second. In that instant, we almost forgot the whole world. It was as if only the two of us existed in this world, as if this was only our world. Ignoring the astonished looks of those around us, we held each other tightly, unwilling to part again.
Finally, a soft cough came from beside us. We snapped back to reality and looked in surprise at the source of the cough.
Tang Ning's face immediately turned bright red; I saw her cute little face looking extremely embarrassed. And not far from us, her aunt was glaring angrily at us.
"What are you doing? What are you doing?!" My aunt's voice was full of anger, but there were too many people around, so she couldn't lash out. She barely suppressed her anger and looked at us coldly, saying, "It's only been three days since we last met, what are you acting like you're going to die? If you want to embarrass yourself, go home and embarrass yourself, don't do it here!"
“Mom…” Zhang Xuan’s pretty face turned bright red after hearing her aunt’s words.
"Heh, it seems there's no escaping it. I thought I'd finally gotten rid of this plague, but I've run into it again," my aunt said coldly.
“Mom, what are you saying? Wang Xi isn’t a plague god!” Zhang Xuan said.
"You're going home." Auntie gave Zhang Xuan a cold look, then got into the car.
After my aunt's car drove away, Zhang Xuan and I exchanged a helpless glance. Then, we both laughed at the same time.
After a brief three-day separation, I found that my feelings for Zhang Xuan had deepened. This time, we no longer acted like enemies, but like a couple who had been together for a long time.
Suddenly, I saw Zhang Xuan steal a glance at the onlookers and her expression change. Then she shoved me aside, giving me a disgusted look, and said, "Wang Xi, what are you doing? You're shameless! Taking advantage of me in front of so many people!"
"Sis, stop pretending to be reserved. Everyone saw it; if you keep pretending, it'll just seem a bit artificial." I smiled, feeling like my illness had actually improved by more than half.
"Where have you been these past few days? Are you dead?" Zhang Xuan still pretended to be reserved, glaring at me fiercely.
“I’m going to Tang Ning’s house,” I said.
"What!?" Upon hearing my words, Zhang Xuan's beautiful eyes widened immediately.
"Yes, he came to my house. Hahaha, he's my little brother now." Tang Ning laughed, her eyes crinkling with a smile.
Then Tang Ning took my arm, and the three of us walked towards the teaching building together. Many people tried to give us directions along the way, but we ignored them. Zhang Xuan's attitude returned to normal; she spoke to me in a rather harsh tone. But I knew she was concerned about her image, and she was just pretending. Seeing her speak to me like that warmed my heart.
Tang Ning told Zhang Xuan everything, including how Tang Wendi had treated me. Zhang Xuan had initially been pretending to be reserved with me, but when she heard I was sick, she immediately became distressed.
She gripped my hand tightly, and I saw a look in her eyes I had never seen before. It was heartache, deep heartache.
Holding my hand tightly, Zhang Xuan was almost in tears, heartbroken. "I knew Tang Wendi wasn't a good person. How could he treat Wang Xi like this?!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't take good care of him." Tang Ning said guiltily after hearing Zhang Xuan's words.
"Tang Ning, this isn't your fault. It's my own fault for being useless. It has nothing to do with anyone else. Let's just let this matter go and not mention it again," I said earnestly.
“From now on, I will never speak to Tang Wendi again,” Zhang Xuan said.
“Yes, my brother went too far this time. I’m on Wang Xi’s side.” Tang Ning nodded.
"Tang Ning, thank you," Zhang Xuan said to Tang Ning.
"It's alright, it's what I should do. After all, Wang Xi is my brother-in-law," Tang Ning smiled.
