"What did you say?" Tang Wendi's voice trembled.

"Tang Wendi, no one knows a son better than his father! Don't pretend with me. Don't think I don't know what kind of person you are. I know everything you've been doing outside, what kind of people you hang out with every day!" As he spoke, Uncle Tang pointed at me and said, "Tang Wendi, I don't believe that Wang Xi would get sick. He was perfectly fine yesterday, but look how sick he is today!?"

"It must be because he broke your keyboard yesterday, and then you scolded him. You look down on him for not having parents who love him, you look down on him for being ignorant, right?!" Uncle Tang roared.

"I didn't. What does it matter to me whether this orphan lives or dies?" Tang Wendi roared.

"You still dare to yell at me?" Uncle Tang slapped Tang Wendi hard across the face again, this time knocking him to the ground.

As soon as I saw him fall, I rushed to Tang Wendi. I hugged him tightly and quickly looked at Uncle Tang, saying, "Uncle Tang, please don't hit Brother Wendi anymore. It's really my fault. Brother Wendi didn't hit me, he didn't hit me."

As I spoke, I hugged Tang Wendi even tighter. The tighter I hugged him, the more disgusted I felt. Because I hated him, and I believed he also deeply loathed me.

Everything went exactly as I expected. He looked at me with deep disgust as I held him. But I felt like I truly loved him, like a devoted best friend cherishing him.

He was finally disgusted by my affected manner. He shoved me away in disgust and yelled at me, "Get out!"

"Brother, are you still angry with me?" I looked at him in surprise.

"Fuck you, your acting is really good. I've been screwed over by you today, I admit defeat!" Gritting his teeth, Tang Wendi suddenly kicked me hard. Then he pointed at me and said, "You old fool, you're really something. You actually believed this kid, but not your own son. Okay, I admit it, I did teach him a lesson yesterday. I found him disgusting, so I made him stand naked outside on the balcony, and I even poured a few bottles of mineral water on him."

“However, I didn’t teach him a lesson because of a small, broken keyboard. You old fool, you underestimate me, Tang Wendi.” Tang Wendi said coldly to Uncle Tang.

"Heh..." After hearing Tang Wendi's words, Uncle Tang walked out of the house coldly.

"Old Tang, where are you going?" Aunt Tang asked.

There was no answer from outside the bedroom; the room was eerily quiet. Suddenly, I saw Aunt Tang's expression change, and Tang Ning's expression changed as well. Then Uncle Tang came in from outside, carrying a large, nine-ringed broadsword.

The blade gleamed with a cold light, and it truly did have nine large rings on it. When Uncle Tang shook the blade, the nine large rings immediately jingled.

With a face full of rage, Uncle Tang was furious to the extreme. He brandished his broadsword and roared, "You beast, today I'll chop you to death!"

"Damn, are you serious?" Tang Wendi turned pale with fright as he looked at the gleaming broadsword in Uncle Tang's hand.

"Damn it, you're useless to me, I might as well just kill you!" With that, Uncle Tang swung his knife fiercely at Tang Wendi.

When Uncle Tang swung his broadsword at him, Tang Wendi immediately rolled on the ground in fright. Aunt Tang and Tang Ning rushed over and hugged Uncle Tang tightly. Aunt Tang held him tightly and shouted, "Wendi, run! Don't make your dad angry!"

"You little brat, you just wait. Don't let me see you again, or I'll definitely kill you!" Tang Wendi scrambled to his feet from the floor and leaped off the bed, running out of the bedroom.

"Get out of my way!" Uncle Tang roared.

A loud crash came from outside the door, and Tang Wendi escaped from the house in less than three seconds. Uncle Tang was stopped by Aunt Tang and Tang Ning, and he finally put down the large knife in his hand, panting heavily.

"Uncle Tang, I'm sorry, maybe I should leave. I ruined your relationship with Tang Wendi." I looked at Uncle Tang with a wronged expression and said after thinking for a moment.

"Don't go..." Uncle Tang gasped for breath, then swayed a few times and clutched his chest.

Seeing Uncle Tang's anger, Aunt Tang's face also turned ugly. She went to the balcony, glanced outside, and then said angrily, "How did Wendy become like this? I'm so disappointed in him."

"Heh, you still think he's some kind of good person?" Uncle Tang sneered.

"What's wrong?" Aunt Tang asked in surprise.

“All his kindness is an act; he’s become so hypocritical. He’s a scoundrel outside, hanging out with a bunch of shady characters every day. You still think he’s an honest, well-behaved kid?” Uncle Tang said.

"What? How did he become like this?" Aunt Tang asked in surprise.

"Sigh..." Tang Ning couldn't help but sigh after hearing her parents' words. Then, Tang Ning looked at me guiltily and said, "Wang Xi, I'm sorry, I made you suffer in my house. I know what kind of person my brother is. He must have thought you were competing with him for Zhang Xuan, so he deliberately made excuses to bully you, right?"

"No." I quickly shook my head.

"Don't lie to me, I know what kind of person my brother is." As she spoke, Tang Ning bit her lip and looked at Uncle Tang and Aunt Tang, saying, "Dad, Mom, my brother really went too far this time. I'm on Wang Xi's side. My brother likes Zhang Xuan, and he thought Wang Xi was stealing his girlfriend, so he treated him like this."

"What? How could this child be so heartless? Just because of a girl, he made Wang Xi stand on the balcony and poured cold water on him?" Aunt Tang was shocked.

"Wang Xi, I want to apologize to you on behalf of my brother. If my brother dares to retaliate against you, come to me. I will definitely protect you." Tang Ning looked at me sincerely.

"No, Wendi won't retaliate against me. Maybe he just likes Zhang Xuan too much, which is why he acted so impulsively. But he could have competed with me fairly, so why did he treat me like this..." As I spoke, I cried again, feeling wronged.

“Child, you are just as kind and righteous as your father. I’m sorry for making you suffer…” Uncle Tang hugged me tightly and cried.

Chapter Thirty-Six: It Seems Like a Mistake

Although I'm still sick, I feel much better this time. I'm lying on the soft bed, a cool towel on my head. A good program is playing on the TV on the opposite wall, and fruit is piled up around me. Soon, Tang Ning's petite figure came in. Taking the towel off me, which had now warmed up, Tang Ning touched my forehead with her small, snow-white hands. Then, she smiled apologetically at me, "I'm sorry, I made you suffer. I knew my brother would target you; I should have kept a closer eye on you and protected you."

"It's okay." My head was still foggy from the fever. But I felt much better.

"Wang Xi, it must be boring for you to recuperate alone, why don't I keep you company?" Tang Ning said after thinking for a moment.

"Okay." I smiled at Tang Ning.

"Let me get you a new towel." Tang Ning smiled apologetically at me again and walked out of the bedroom.

I was lying in Tang Wendi's bedroom again. But this time, I wouldn't worry about anyone hitting me anymore. Because he had been kicked out by Uncle Tang and wouldn't dare come back anytime soon. And because of my careful management, this place had become my little safe haven.

It's warm and harmonious here. Uncle Tang is very kind to me, Aunt Tang is very kind to me, and Tang Ning is even kinder to me.

In dealing with Tang Wendi, I seem to have found my own way of surviving. Although I lack physical strength, my mind is still sharp enough. Being abused by my aunt from a young age has made me more mature than my peers. If I'm too weak, I'll be devoured by the strong. And I don't want to be devoured, so I can only protect myself through cunning.

I succeeded.

Last night, if I hadn't provoked Tang Wendi to the point of making me faint, I might have been forced to kneel before him. And I would rather be beaten to death than kneel before anyone. So I took advantage of his arrogance and made him sick. That way, I wouldn't have to kneel before him.

Even if I knelt down before him, it wouldn't have mattered. He's the kind of person who has no compassion; kneeling would only have subjected me to more humiliation. It was during my illness that I realized Uncle Tang and Aunt Tang genuinely cared about me. So, relying on the trump card I held, I successfully framed Tang Wendi. My sudden illness had already aroused Uncle Tang's suspicion, and no matter how he explained, it was useless.

All they care about is my illness. As long as they know that Tang Wendi is abusing me, no one will investigate whether I am framing Tang Wendi.

I know this is a bit despicable, and my actions are a bit too womanly. But I really have no other choice; I want to live. If I don't use some means to protect myself, I'm truly afraid I won't live to see my parents again. I not only need to protect myself, but I also need to protect Zhang Xuan.

On the bedside table beside me lay the keyboard button I'd pried off. It was a Y-shaped button, and I felt a pang of regret seeing Tang Wendi's high-end keyboard ruined by my actions. I tried to get up, wanting to fix it. No matter how Tang Wendi treated me, the keyboard was innocent.

Just as I was about to get up, Tang Ning saw this scene. She quickly walked in, looked at me angrily, and said, "My brother treated you like that, why are you still fixing his keyboard? Give me the buttons, I'm throwing this piece of junk away."

"Don't do that, it's a shame to throw away something that's still working perfectly. Do you have any glue at home? I'll try to glue it back together." This time, I wasn't acting; I genuinely wanted to fix the keyboard.

"Wang Xi, you're such a kind person. I'm starting to think my brother is going too far," Tang Ning said, taking a deep breath and looking at me with heartache.

"No, it's actually my fault. I caused trouble for your family as soon as I arrived. It's all my fault," I said earnestly.

“How could this be your fault? It’s clearly my brother’s fault. Don’t worry, I will definitely protect you and never let my brother bully you again,” Tang Ning said earnestly.

"Tang Wendi is your own brother, don't you have any support for him at all?" I looked at her in surprise.

"He's in the wrong, how could I possibly side with him? Besides, I hate it when people take advantage of their abilities to bully others. Otherwise, I wouldn't have left the Thirteen Eagles," Tang Ning said with a smile.

"You're such a kind and good girl. Whoever gets to be with you is so lucky," I sighed.

"It's a pity no one's pursuing me," Tang Ning pouted.

"I don't believe it." I gently shook my head.

"Hehe, quite a few people do pursue me, but I especially hate those people," Tang Ning said.

"Who are they?" I asked.

"Young Master Bao, Chai Jin, the troll, Young Master Liu... and Chen Xun also pursued me." Tang Ning rattled off more than a dozen names in one breath.

"Chen Xun also pursued you?" I looked at her in surprise.

"That's why he's a jerk. He pursued me and then went on to pursue Zhang Xuan. When I heard about it, I really wanted to tell Zhang Xuan what kind of person he was. But it's not good to talk badly about people behind their backs, so I didn't say anything. Fortunately, Xuanxuan finally broke up with that jerk Chen Xun," Tang Ning said.

"So, did Zhang Xuan ever get taken advantage of by Chen Xun?" My heart suddenly ached.

"No, Zhang Xuan hasn't even let him touch her hand. She only agreed to give it a try because she was annoyed by Chen Xun's pursuit. But Chen Xun took advantage of her and really thought he was something special. Speaking of which, I feel you're more suitable for Xuanxuan. But you two aren't really family, are you?" Tang Ning asked me.

"No, her surname is Zhang and mine is Wang. How could we be related? My uncle is just a friend of my mother's. I only call her 'Uncle' because I grew up at her house," I said.

"That's good, otherwise you and Zhang Xuan might have gotten a little... into trouble." Tang Ning immediately laughed, her cute little face turning red.

"Haha, how could I possibly fall for my own sister? But do you ever have those kinds of feelings for your brother?" I asked gossipily.

"No way, how could I possibly have feelings for my own brother? Sometimes when he holds my hand, it feels like my left hand is holding my right," Tang Ning said.

"Really? They're the opposite sex, after all. Don't you really feel anything at all?" I asked again.

"I really don't feel anything. It's impossible to have feelings for your own brother." As she said this, Tang Ning suddenly placed her hand on mine.

"What are you doing?" I was shocked; my body suddenly felt like it had been electrocuted.

"I'll take my hand away, and you can try touching your own hand again." Tang Ning smiled and looked at me with her eyes crinkled.

"Oh..." Seeing Tang Ning remove her hand, I put my left hand on my right hand.

"You can feel the difference, right?" Tang Ning asked me.

"I don't quite understand it." I stared blankly at her and thought for a moment before saying this.

"Shall we try again?" Tang Ning thought for a moment and placed her snow-white little hand in mine again.

When Tang Ning placed her hand on mine, I felt another electric shock. No matter what, Tang Ning was a beautiful girl, especially with her small, soft hands.

Looking into her bright eyes, a strange feeling gradually welled up inside me. Seeing that I didn't react, Tang Ning thought for a moment and simply slipped her fingers through the gap between mine, intertwining our fingers tightly.

She was the second girl I'd ever been with, and at that moment I felt a stirring in my body. Tang Ning, however, remained oblivious, asking me, "You still don't feel anything? Aren't you interested in me?"

"I don't know, I need to feel it for a while before I can feel it." Suddenly reluctant to let her go, I thought for a moment and said.

"Hahaha, are you deliberately taking advantage of me?" Tang Ning suddenly laughed, staring into my eyes.

"No, absolutely not!" I quickly shook my head.

"Alright then, you can take advantage of me a little longer if you want, since I owe you one. But don't tell Xuanxuan, or she'll beat me up." Tang Ning said shyly, gently biting her lip.

“Okay, I won’t tell her.” I nodded gently.

Holding hands with Tang Ning was an incredibly wonderful feeling. Tang Ning was beautiful and lovely, and her petite figure made me want to cherish her. I felt a little nervous and a little scared. I felt a little guilty towards Zhang Xuan, but I thought it shouldn't be a big deal. Because Zhang Xuan and I weren't together yet; I was still single. And Tang Ning and I hadn't done anything inappropriate; we just felt so good and didn't want to let go.

Maybe it's because I'm sick and feeling vulnerable. Before, when I was sick, no one was ever there for me. But now, I'm sick, and I have such a lovely girl like Tang Ning to keep me company and take care of me. I've always been lonely, and I'm terrified of being alone. Just quietly looking into Tang Ning's bright eyes, I gradually closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.

"Wake up! Don't sleep anymore! Let go of my hand, or I'll have to spend the night with you!"

I don't know how long I slept, but I vaguely saw Tang Ning nudging me. She was sitting in front of me, looking at me with a reproachful expression. At that moment, I realized how beautiful she was; her round, snow-white face was indescribably adorable. Because of my fever and throbbing headache, I mumbled to her, "Then don't go, stay with me a little longer. I'm so scared, afraid someone will bully me again..."

After hearing my words, Tang Ning fell silent. She looked at me quietly for a long time, then climbed onto my bed. Dressed, she carefully nestled beside me. "Then you should sleep well. I will protect you. From now on, no one will bully you again."

My head was throbbing, and her voice seemed to come near and then fade away. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep again, and in my dream, I saw a series of fierce faces.

Chen Xun, Chai Jin, Young Master Bao, Tang Wendi—they all beat me badly. And my aunt, she loudly mocked me, pointing at me and saying, "You're a piece of trash, a useless thing! Your parents are both dead, they'll never come back!"

After hearing my aunt's words, I cried. Tears gradually soaked my pillow, and I felt an indescribable pain in my heart.

Every serious illness was a painful ordeal for my frail body. I was already in poor health, and when I got sick, I suffered several times more than a healthy person. I felt like my body was floating in darkness, and I was in so much pain that I felt like I was about to die. Suddenly, I seemed to grab onto something, something soft and incredibly comforting.

Clutching it tightly, I thought for a moment and then simply hugged it even tighter. It was warm and soft, with a faint fragrance. Holding it close, I felt as if I were back in my mother's arms. Gradually, I finally felt a little better and drifted off to sleep.
