Chapter Seventy-Nine: The War Wizard

Adam and the X-Men split up. He and Natasha, along with a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. special agents, were stopped by a group of soldiers wielding strange weapons when they headed towards the capital of Camberia. As Adam approached to quietly knock them unconscious, he discovered they weren't soldiers at all, but illusions; they had fallen into a trap set by the wizard Einstein.

Fortunately, Adam had only brought Logan along to ambush this team, so although the two of them had fallen into a trap, the attacks from these hidden enemies were completely ineffective against Logan, who had super regenerative abilities, and Adam, who had an iron body. As long as they found the enemy's trail, both Adam and Logan could take care of them in a very short time.

Adam, with his eyes closed, moved swiftly using only his hearing, grabbed a soldier, and choked him, demanding, "Speak! Where is the wizard?"

The soldier only grunted twice without speaking. Adam assumed he had pinched too hard, which was why the soldier couldn't speak, so he loosened his grip slightly. But to his surprise, the moment he let go, the soldier bit into the poison hidden in his mouth and committed suicide.

Adam disgustedly threw the corpse in his hands to the ground, then asked Logan, "Logan, did you catch anyone alive?"

Logan quickly replied, "No, these guys seem to be suicide bombers; they killed themselves after I captured them. Adam, have you found a way to break the illusion? There are just too many of them; we can't kill them all."

After hearing this, Adam said, "Not yet. Be careful. I'll try to see if I can break this illusion!" With that, he exerted force with both hands and jumped upwards with a bang.

Upon seeing Adam's actions, the wizard who was rushing over here smiled coldly, chanted an incantation, pointed his finger, and a bolt of lightning as thick as an arm descended from the sky and struck Adam directly, causing him to fall to the ground with a thud.

Logan was closer to Adam, so he heard the thunder and the sound of something heavy falling to the ground. He called out worriedly, "Adam, are you alright?"

Adam, struck by lightning, shook his head, stood up, and upon hearing Logan's words, replied, "I'm fine. Damn it, I was ambushed by that wizard."

But then he discovered that his communicator had been destroyed by lightning, leaving Adam feeling incredibly frustrated. His connection with Athena had been severed immediately upon entering this place, and now even the communicator given to him by the X-Men had been damaged by lightning. He suddenly felt utterly miserable.

Just then, he heard Logan shouting loudly again. He closed his eyes and used his hearing to move toward Logan while shouting, "I'm fine. The communicator was damaged by lightning. I'm walking toward you, but don't let your guard down. Trust your instincts. When it's time to attack, don't hesitate to attack. You know I'm very strong. Even if I make a mistake, I won't get hurt."

Adam could have used the heat rays to scan the surroundings and see if he could break the illusion. However, this would certainly result in many deaths, and he had promised his father that he wouldn't kill anyone with his own hands. Therefore, he temporarily abandoned the idea and prepared to close his eyes and train his intuition. Actually, his intuition had been quite accurate before. However, recently, due to his constant use of Athena's powers, it hadn't improved.

With his eyes closed and relying on his intuition, he knocked down several attackers. Suddenly sensing danger behind him, he retreated to the side. Sure enough, not long after, he heard the sound of lightning striking a tree.

The wizard saw that Adam had easily dodged his attack. He narrowed his eyes and said, "Heh, Shadow Knight. You are indeed quite skilled, but I am no pushover either."

Upon hearing the unfamiliar voice, Adam said, "Huh? You're that wizard named Einstein?"

The wizard sneered, "That's right, I am a wizard. Since you've heard of my name, you'd better surrender and become my subordinate, and I'll spare your life."

Adam found it amusing and said, "You're a strange person. You know, when I was a child, I had a friend who, just like you, always wanted to eat swan meat!"

The wizard was furious upon hearing this and said, "How dare you compare the great wizard Einstein to a toad? Shadow Knight, I will kill you!"

Adam shrugged and said, "Many people want me dead, but I'm still alive!"

The wizard laughed in fury, saying, "Fine, fine, fine! I'll see if you can still live!" With that, he pointed with both hands, and a bolt of lightning shot out from his hands and flew towards Adam.

Although Adam was trapped in the illusion and couldn't see the wizard's attack, his carefully honed intuition kicked in again. He closed his eyes and stepped back to the right, dodging the wizard's attack. However, Adam underestimated the wizard's power and quickly suffered a setback. The wizard wasn't surprised to see Adam dodge; he simply waved his hands again. The lightning that Adam had dodged defied scientific logic, spinning in the air before striking Adam behind him with a deafening roar. The lightning's immense force sent Adam flying, ultimately slamming him into a large rock.

The wizard looked at Adam, who was covered in smoke, and said, "Haha, now you know how powerful I am."

Adam scoffed, stood up from the rubble, and said, "Heh, I'm fine. This little bit of lightning is just right for a massage."

The wizard was immediately surprised upon seeing this and exclaimed, "You're not injured at all?"

Adam said calmly, "I've already said, your lightning is perfect for giving me a massage, but I don't like to indulge in pleasures when I'm doing serious business, so we need to finish this quickly!" After saying that, he shot a heat beam directly towards the spot he intuitively sensed.

The wizard was taken aback when he saw this. He grabbed a soldier who had appeared beside him at some unknown time and blocked Adam's attack, then said, "You can actually see me?"

Adam said calmly, "I can't see you; I'm just going by instinct!"

The wizard tossed aside the soldier, who was severely wounded by Adam's attack, and said, "Hmph, so you were just putting on a brave face. Well then, let me show you the true power of a wizard!" He then began chanting a spell.

Adam sensed something was amiss after hearing the wizard's words. So, upon hearing the wizard chant a spell, he instinctively fired another heat ray at the wizard. Just as Adam's heat ray was about to hit the wizard, the wizard calmly uttered a single word.

"Weakened!" Instantly, Adam's heat rays seemed to have lost their energy source, dissipating into the world. The wizard, as if he had done something insignificant, looked at Adam with a smile.

"This is the true power of a wizard, the art of curses! Nothing can escape a wizard's curse, even gods fear being cursed by a wizard. Hmph, pathetic fellow, daring to offend a great wizard, today will be your death day."

Adam scoffed, "If you're so capable, dispel your illusions and we'll fight fairly."

He's just buying himself time to come up with a solution. He's not an idealist, nor is he a naive child who believes in true fairness. There is no absolute fairness in this world, only relative fairness, because absolute fairness implies ruthlessness, which is simply impossible.

Sure enough, the wizard didn't break the illusion at all. Instead, he said with a sarcastic look, "Don't try to stall for time, Shadow Knight. You can think about your last words: Weakness!" He then pointed at Adam.

A semi-transparent, dark green beam of light shot from the wizard's hand, striking Adam almost instantly before he could react. Struck by this strange energy beam, Adam suddenly felt his strength rapidly draining away. Within just a few breaths, he was already kneeling on the ground, panting heavily.

Adam felt frustrated as his strength drained away. He had many abilities, but he always failed when fighting against legendary power systems. It was the same when he encountered the magician last time, when his own defense was almost non-existent. This time it was even worse; he couldn't defend against the wizard's curse at all.

Adam was extremely anxious, thinking, 'Am I really going to die here? No way! I need to think of something quickly!'

Adam felt a surge of joy as he felt the energy within him, and said, "Haha, I had completely forgotten that this place is Africa. Although I was blinded by the wizard's illusions, the sun still exists in the sky. Isn't the source of my power this great star?"

The wizard was shocked upon seeing this and exclaimed in disbelief, "You?! How is this possible? How could you break my curse?!"

As the illusion of the raging sun wizard dissipated, Adam looked at the wizard standing to his left and said calmly, "Nothing is impossible. Evil can never defeat justice!" With that, he roared and almost instantly appeared in front of the wizard, punching him in the face.

The wizard was quite shocked that Adam had been able to break his curse. However, this did not mean he would surrender. He leaped back quickly while chanting a spell, and a wall of bones immediately appeared between him and Adam, blocking Adam's attack.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to distance himself from Adam, the wizard said, "Hmph, you wretched Shadow, although you can break my curse, don't be too arrogant. I have more than just this one move. Behold my curse!" With that, a gray beam of light shot towards Adam again.

But perhaps the wizard truly deserved his bad luck, for Adam was now enveloped in extremely violent solar energy. Although it had restored Adam's strength and broken the curse, it was still a burden for him. He didn't know how to release this energy, but the wizard's attack was like pouring cold water on a raging fire. Although it didn't neutralize the solar energy, it did make Adam feel a little better.

Therefore, Adam attacked the wizard relentlessly, ignoring the wizard's curses. This infuriated the wizard, who continued casting curses while preparing to retreat, utterly terrified of Adam. However, the wizard's curses were a lifesaver for Adam in his current state, and he wouldn't let the wizard escape. Thus, he persistently pursued the wizard until they finally separated.

Natasha nodded after hearing this and said, "Okay, let's go." After calming herself down, she continued walking forward with Logan.

Actually, with Natasha's abilities, she could have determined Adam's approximate location from the traces of the battle at the scene, but right now she was only thinking about Adam's comfort and couldn't calm down to find clues, so she had no choice but to follow Logan.

Storm asked, "Don't we need to wait for Adam anymore?"

Logan shook his head and said, "No need, we have some faith in him."

Natasha added, "That's right, I think Adam is definitely already waiting for us."

The group set off again, and this time they encountered no resistance along the way, reaching the meeting place with Cyclops without any obstacles. However, they found that Cyclops and his group were not there at all, and there was no sign of anyone having been there.
