After Adam left the scene, he returned home and called Athena out, saying, "Athena, have you tracked down those two people?"

Athena shook her head and said, "No, a mutant helped them leave Ellis Island. His appearance and abilities are very similar to Red Devil, one of the more troublesome mutants, but because his skin is blue."

After hearing this, Adam asked, "Can we use satellites to locate his position?"

Athena shook her head and said, "I just tried, but I can't pinpoint his location."

Adam sighed after hearing this and said, "It seems we can only start the investigation from that church. Help me pull up the video footage from the past two days near the church, and let's see if we find anything."

Athena asked in confusion, "Master, why are you planning to investigate these things this time? Didn't you always say that investigations should be left to the police?"

Adam sighed and said, "Because I'm angry! I want revenge for those who died today! Begin the investigation, Athena!"

Athena replied, "Yes, Master!" With a wave of her hand, some video footage appeared on the screen in front of Adam.

Adam and Athena quickly watched the video several times before exchanging a smile and saying, "Finally, we've made a new discovery."

Athena laughed and said, "Hehe, Master, you're amazing! There was actually another person in the church. This person is the key to our investigation later."

Adam nodded and said, "Yes, this priest is definitely the person we're looking for. He went into the church yesterday and hasn't come out since. Either he was silenced, or there must be another passage in the church."

Athena said, "It seems you need to go there yourself, Master. Once we know where the underground passage leads, we can find the priest's whereabouts!"

Adam stretched and said, "Alright, I'll go take a look! You keep an eye on Ellis Island and let me know if anything happens."

Athena nodded and said, "Yes, Master, don't worry!"

Adam smiled slightly, then left home, took a taxi to the vicinity of the church. The church had already been cordoned off by the police station, and several officers were patrolling the area. Upon seeing this, Adam donned his protective suit, moved at super speed into the church, and used his super vision to examine the church floor.

Soon, Adam discovered a relatively new set of footprints. Following the footprints, he walked to the statue of Jesus and saw the dark passage behind the statue.

Adam smiled slightly and was about to go inside when he heard the sound of a car stopping and the footsteps of many people walking towards the church. He frowned, jumped onto a church beam, and then hid himself, waiting for the people to arrive.

Chapter Thirty-One: Phil Coulson and Deterrence

The church doors were flung open, and a group of soldiers in black uniforms, armed with weapons, walked in. Adam saw the word "SHIELD" on their uniforms and thought to himself, "They're really fast. No wonder it's S.H.I.E.L.D."

Just then, a soldier shouted, "Safe!"

A middle-aged man dressed in a black suit and wearing black sunglasses walked in with a serious expression. He looked around, frowned, and said, "Sir, would you please come out?"

Upon hearing the man's words, all the soldiers quickly gathered around and surrounded him to protect him.

The man waved for the soldiers to disperse and said, "I am Agent Phil Coulson, Mr. Shadow. Please show yourself. We mean no harm!"

Adam was slightly startled, then jumped down and said, "As expected of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, can you tell me how you found me?"

Phil Coulson smiled and pointed to the sunglasses he had just taken off, saying, "These aren't just for show, nor are they for looking cool. Hehe, I've heard so much about you, Mr. Shadow Knight."

After hearing this, Adam glanced at the sunglasses and realized that they were indeed a high-tech product. He smiled slightly and said, "So you found me by following my footprints? No wonder you are one of the current director's most trusted agents."

He had indeed been somewhat careless; although he could move at high speeds, he would still leave traces. Adam kept this in mind, thinking to himself, 'It seems I need to modify my combat boots to prevent the enemy from easily identifying me based on my distinctive features.'

Phil Coulson said, "Hehe, you flatter me. So, let's get back to the point. What brings Mr. Shadow here?"

Adam said, “I am investigating the mutant attack on Ellis Island today. If you have made contact with the military, you should know that those mutants are being controlled in order to instigate a war between humans and mutants.”

Phil Coulson replied, "Yes, we have contacted the military. If possible, how about we investigate this matter? After all, we are the professionals."

Adam thought for a moment. If he didn't agree, they would definitely give him a bunch of long-winded lectures and annoy him to death. It would be better to pretend to agree and investigate secretly. With that in mind, he nodded and said, "Okay, since you're the professionals, please let me know when you have any results. Oh, by the way, there's a secret room over there, let's go investigate it." He then pointed to the statue of Jesus.

Phil Coulson laughed and said, "Oh, thank you for your help, Mr. Shadow."

Adam shook his head and said, "It's nothing, but I see there are many dangers inside. I'll destroy all the traps ahead, and you guys can follow behind. That would be safer. What do you think?"

Phil Coulson nodded and said, "Well, thank you so much. But you said you saw it, did you already go inside? Did you find anything?"

Adam laughed, "Of course! No hidden door or secret room can escape my eyes!"

Phil Coulson chuckled awkwardly and stopped trying to get information out of him. After all, the other party had made it clear to him that if he wanted to know, no secret base of your organization would escape his sight. If Coulson still didn't know to back down from such an obvious threat, then he might as well go back to school at S.H.I.E.L.D.

Just then, the people who had gone to inspect the interior of the church returned and reported to Philcoulson, "Sir, we found nothing inside except for spider webs!"

Phil Coulson chuckled, "Alright, gentlemen, Mr. Shadow has found the place we're looking for. I think perhaps we should set off?" The final blow was addressed to Adam.

Adam nodded and said, "Okay, let's go. You all follow behind me, and it's best not to make any rash moves until I say it's safe!"

Phil Coulson said, "Don't worry, Mr. Shadow, my soldiers are very obedient and won't have the situation you described."

"Then let's go!" Adam smiled as he approached the statue of Jesus, looking at it and saying, "Excuse me, Your Highness!" He then used his heat rays to slice the statue and the door to the chamber that connected to it apart, before violently pushing it open.

After reading it, Phil Coulson humorously remarked, "Oh, a very useful ability."

Adam shrugged and said, “Of course. I usually use it at home to bake bread. It’s very quick and I don’t have to worry about the electricity bill.”

Phil Coulson laughed, "I'm starting to get jealous of you, Mr. Shadow."

Adam smiled slightly, stepped into the dark passage, and said, "Hehe, you can't be jealous, Coulson. This is an innate ability of mine." He then continued walking forward.

Phil Coulson remained silent, quietly following behind Adam as he swiftly dismantled several traps, seemingly lost in thought.

Just then, Adam, who was walking in front, suddenly stopped and made them stop.

Phil Coulson asked, "What happened?"

Adam turned his head and said, "Hey guys, there's poison gas behind that door. If you have a gas mask, you'd better wear it. If not, get out of the passage now. That guy is very cunning. He must have guessed that someone would violently destroy this place and made a lot of preparations."

Phil Coulson took the gas mask handed to him by the soldier next to him and said, "Don't you need it?"

Adam shook his head and said, "No, these poisons are useless against me." He had already decided to use his strength to intimidate S.H.I.E.L.D., so he no longer held back.

As expected, Phil Coulson's expression didn't change upon hearing this, but Adam's super hearing clearly detected his suddenly accelerated heartbeat and slightly erratic breathing. Adam, walking ahead, smiled slightly; his intimidation had been achieved.

Afterwards, Adam and Philcoulson encountered four large traps. After defeating them one by one, they finally found an exit, an exit leading to the Three-Way Sewers.

Adam frowned and said, "It seems we've encountered a very cunning enemy."

Phil Coulson was wearing a mask, so his voice sounded strange as he said, "That's right. Now that we're here, leave the rest of the investigation to us."

Adam nodded and said, "Alright, be careful!"

He had already used his abilities to memorize some of the features of this place and had Athena analyze the most likely direction the enemy would leave, so he wasn't worried about not finding the priest.

Phil Coulson chuckled, "Yes, thank you, we will. Actually, our boss would like to meet with you. If possible, could you please give us your contact information?"

Adam said calmly, "Wherever help is needed, I'll be there. So finding me is easy!"

Phil Coulson shrugged and said, "Our boss has tried, but you haven't shown up."

Adam was puzzled after hearing this, but Athena explained that the previous 'sudden incidents' were all orchestrated by S.H.I.E.L.D. Because they knew these were man-made 'sudden incidents,' Athena had not notified him at all.

He chuckled and said, "Alright, I'll leave a phone number. You can contact me using that number if anything comes up. But remember, I'm not your subordinate, so don't call me unless it's absolutely necessary, or I might ignore you again."

Upon hearing this, Phil Coulson quickly replied, "Don't worry, Mr. Shadow, we won't be that bored. We just wanted to chat with you before. Now that we have a general understanding of each other, there won't be any more of that kind of probing in the future!"

Chapter Thirty-Two: S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Invitation

While investigating the church, Adam encountered Phil Coulson, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who was also investigating the church. Adam promised Phil Coulson that he would not continue investigating the case, and then led them through a secret passage to a three-way underground sewer. After saying goodbye to Phil Coulson, Adam went back into the passage.

Adam asked, "What did Athena discover?"

Athena passed some information to Adam, saying, "This secret passage is not newly built; according to my analysis, it belongs to a building from more than twenty years ago."

After hearing this, Adam said, "So, it's very likely that we've been deceived?"

Athena shook her head and said, "I don't know about that. I need to analyze it. But I have a question about the presence of S.H.I.E.L.D. people here."

Adam laughed after hearing this, "Is it that 'spider web'?"

Athena said, "So you noticed it too, Master. Hehe, a group of well-trained special forces soldiers would add useless complaints to their reports. That's simply impossible."

Adam nodded and said, "That's right. He said 'nothing was found except for the spider web,' which says it all. Who left the spider web? Of course, it was a spider. So, the only one SHIELD agent has connections to spiders!"

Athena laughed: "Black Widow!"

Adam continued, "That's right, it's her. So it's certain that Black Widow has infiltrated the organization that carried out today's attack. They're here to find clues left by Black Widow. They called it a spider web because I was an outsider present. Heh, as expected of an elite unit, their minds work very fast."

Athena smiled and said, "That's probably why they told Master not to continue the investigation. They're afraid you'll ruin their plans."

Adam said, "I just want to avenge the dead, that's all."

Athena asked, "Shall we continue the investigation?"

Adam nodded and said, "Of course! S.H.I.E.L.D. is not a charity. They won't investigate the deaths of a few people. They definitely have their own purposes. Maybe they want to find something on that organization or individual to make them work for S.H.I.E.L.D. But I won't. My purpose is very simple: revenge!"

Adam laughed and said, "Thanks, Athena, it's so good to have you!"
