For safety reasons, Dr. Reed placed the locator on the roof of the building where he was holding his wedding. Many superheroes would be attending their wedding that day, as it would be the wedding of the first two superheroes to reveal their identities. Some superheroes also wanted to attend, and neither Susan nor Dr. Reed refused. Of course, Susan was mainly unaware that there was a Silver Surfer locator at her wedding, otherwise Dr. Reed would definitely have been crumpled up and kicked around like a ball by Susan.
"Is this really okay?" Ben, who knew the truth, asked Dr. Reed, who was debugging the machine.
“Although Susan may be angry, I believe she will understand me,” Dr. Reed said with a slight smile.
"I hope so," Ben said with a shrug.
Just then, Johnny, dressed in a Fantastic Four costume covered with various advertisements, walked in from outside and was speechless when he saw Ben and Dr. Reed still debugging the machine.
"Hey, what are you guys still doing here? You're almost getting married," Johnny said flippantly.
“It will be finished soon, you know, this is something the military and Superman entrusted to us,” Dr. Reed shrugged and said.
"Sigh, really, what's wrong with postponing it by a day?" Because he hadn't seen the specific data, Johnny was unaware that Earth was facing danger, and he hadn't paid attention to the abnormal weather phenomena, so he was still quite optimistic.
"Seriously, didn't you listen to what Superman said?" Ben said, somewhat speechless.
“Uh, I don’t think I was there that day,” Johnny shrugged.
"Because you were flirting with a female soldier from the Department of Defense." Dr. Reed sighed and said, "But I still have to tell you, you should settle down."
"I'll talk about it when I find the woman I like," Johnny said nonchalantly. Then, realizing that staying any longer might get him a lecture from Dr. Reed, he quickly added, "Oh, right, I have something to do, so I'll be leaving now."
"He ran away again. Honestly, he's already so old, yet he's still so immature." Ben shook his head and said.
“Well, let him be. Maybe it’s a good thing he’s like that.” Dr. Reed sighed and said, “Of the four of us, it seems that he’s the only one who’s enjoying everything that his abilities bring.”
"That's because his abilities just happen to match his personality," Ben muttered.
"Alright, it's done. As long as we start working together tomorrow, that guy will definitely come." Dr. Reed smiled slightly and put down what he was doing.
"Are we really going to start it tomorrow?" Ben suddenly asked. "Actually, we could give this thing to Superman. After all, tomorrow is your wedding."
“Only I can process that information to lure out the Silver Surfer. Others probably can’t do it, otherwise Superman wouldn’t have entrusted this task to me.” Dr. Reed said calmly, “Besides being Reed Richards, I am also the superhero Mister Fantastic! Since the people believe that we can protect them, then we should live up to their trust.”
Ben shrugged and said, "Okay, you've convinced me."
Chapter 342 The Wedding Begins (Part 2)
The night before the wedding, Adam discovered that the Silver Surfer was playing hide-and-seek again. This time, however, Adam didn't bother searching for him. If Dr. Reed's plan worked, he could catch him the next day. Moreover, he noticed that because of that damned Silver Surfer, countless enormous circular sinkholes were appearing all over the world. Adam could see at a glance that these sinkholes were directly connected to the Earth's core, or rather, that they were exposing the Earth's core.
This is a terrifying prospect. If some unscrupulous organization were to drop a nuclear bomb or something similar, the Earth would surely be doomed. Therefore, he immediately notified Christine to come and help.
"Oh my god, what on earth happened?" Christine was also very surprised when she saw the huge sinkhole in front of her after arriving, and asked, "Was this also caused by the Silver Surfers?"
“It’s definitely him. We have to stop him tomorrow, or the whole planet will be doomed,” Adam said, frowning.
"Hopefully Dr. Reed's locator will work." Christine was also aware of tomorrow's plans and was somewhat worried that something might go wrong with the doctor's plans.
“Don’t worry, the doctor and his team have already conducted several experiments. Although the time spent activating the machine each time is very short, it is still enough to attract the attention of that silver surfer,” Adam explained.
“Alright, now it’s time to fill this sinkhole.” Christine said, “Leave this to me. It seems that nothing but magic can quickly fill this sinkhole; it’s just too big and too deep.”
Christine hovered above the sinkhole, glanced at it below, and began chanting a spell. Fortunately, Christine was not only a warrior but also an excellent mage. Therefore, after Christine cast her spell, the surrounding land entered the sinkhole in a strange way, and it took about an hour to fill the huge sinkhole.
"Phew, I really don't know where all the soil from this sinkhole went," Christine sighed. "The Earth can't withstand a few more of this."
"Don't worry, it won't happen again!" Adam said, then asked Athena, "Athena, what about other places? Have any of these sinkholes appeared?"
“Master, there are no sinkholes appearing on Earth yet, but I may need you to come to outer space immediately. I have discovered the Silver Surfer!” Athena replied immediately.
"What? The Silver Surfers are in outer space?" Adam asked in confusion, and gestured for Christine to help teleport him to outer space.
"Yes, he's flying outwards, huh?! He looks like he's welcoming something." Athena exclaimed, "Master, please come immediately, I feel a fear from the depths of my soul."
"Christine, teleport!" Adam immediately said to Christine upon hearing Athena's exclamation.
Upon hearing this, Christine didn't ask what happened. She immediately activated the teleportation spell she had been preparing, sending Adam and herself to outer space. There, she saw a humanoid creature with a silver body kneeling on its flying skateboard, seemingly saying something, in a location between Earth and the Moon.
Just as Christine was about to speak, she suddenly noticed a terrifying sense of pressure emanating from the spot in front of the silver surfer. This startled her. She hadn't felt fear even when facing a god several times more powerful than herself, but now, without even seeing the other's shadow, she was already almost suffocating. Just what kind of monster was this?
Christine felt this way, and so did Adam.
He also felt an extreme sense of danger in an instant, and he subconsciously used his super vision to probe the area in front of the silver surfer, trying to see what was there.
But almost instantly he was at a disadvantage. Adam groaned and grabbed his eye. A trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his eye, hovered in the air, and then vanished in an instant. The silver surfer who was greeting his master not far away also noticed Adam and Christine, and then disappeared in a flash.
Christine couldn't care less about the silver surfer now. She anxiously asked Adam, "Adam, darling, what's wrong? What happened?"
Christine was leaning against Adam because of the terrifying pressure, which is why she was able to notice Adam's abnormality immediately and see that Adam's eyes were bleeding when she looked up.
"It's alright. It seems we've encountered an insurmountable force this time. Heh, my eyes couldn't take it after just one glance, before I even had a chance to see its figure." Adam chuckled self-deprecatingly and said, "Looks like the enemy is quite formidable."
"Are you alright?" Christine looked at Adam's eyes with concern and asked.
“Looks like I’ll have to get some sun tonight,” Adam shrugged. “But in doing so, I discovered a secret.”
"What secret?" Christine asked, puzzled.
"Although the other party is an absurdly powerful guy, he seems to have a terrible sense of direction, and this guy just happens to be the guide," Adam said, revealing his guess.
Just now, Adam saw a mysterious, enormous energy body moving in the opposite direction. Although his eyes were injured by the pressure of the energy body the moment he saw it and its direction of movement, Adam was still certain that it was not heading towards Earth at all.
"Why would he do that?" Christine asked angrily.
Of course, it was just a subconscious atmosphere. If they knew why the other party chose Earth, they wouldn't have spent so much time searching for them.
"We don't know yet, but we'll definitely know tomorrow," Adam said coldly.
“Oh, right, that guy disappeared again.” Christine frowned and said, “Just now, when you injured your eye, he saw you and me here and ran away.”
"It's alright, he might escape today, but he might not be able to tomorrow!" Adam snorted and said, "Oh, right, I can't tell which way is which now. Can you take me to the Sun? I need to get my eyes checked."
“Okay, let’s go.” Christine helped Adam up and was about to activate the teleportation spell. Well, this was left behind when Christine fused with the Mayan sun god’s divine essence inside the sun, so that she could occasionally come back to recharge.
"Oh, right, we need to inform Athena and have her tell Dr. Reed and the others that we'll arrive on time for the wedding tomorrow," Adam reminded them. "Otherwise, they might think something has happened to us."
After hearing this, Christine personally informed Susan through Athena, repeatedly assuring her that she would be there on time the next day, and then disappeared in a burst of light.
Wedding Scene
Today is the day that everyone is eagerly anticipating: the wedding of the superheroes Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman. The wedding is very lively because Susan's brother, Johnny the Human Torch, shamelessly sold the live broadcast rights of the wedding to a television station under the Dawn Group. Therefore, in addition to the VIPs invited by Dr. Reed and Susan, many Hollywood stars have also come to the venue. Yes, this is Johnny's favorite.
Of course, to prevent his older sister from speaking out, Johnny cleverly arranged everything. He set up a very romantic little chapel on the roof of the building, where Susan's best friend and some guests personally invited by the soon-to-be Reeds were arranged. Well, those who couldn't go to the roof for the actual wedding would watch the whole thing on the big screen here. Hehe, let's give him a thumbs up for his ingenuity.
"Wow, this place is amazing, there are beautiful women everywhere," Percy Jackson said with a grin as he walked in, addressing Johnny, the Ghost Rider, beside him.
“Oh, you’re here, Percy. Come on, I’ll take you upstairs.” Johnny spotted them immediately and came over, saying, “The Logans and the others are on the roof. Of course, we can come down later.”
“I like this arrangement. It looks like we can talk about it,” Percy Jackson said.
"Haha, let's chat at the party tonight," Johnny said. "Alright, everyone, let's go upstairs."
Johnny personally led them to the rooftop wedding venue, then went down first to greet the guests below. Although these people couldn't attend the actual wedding, they had come because of the event, and since they were all Hollywood stars or businessmen, Johnny didn't want to offend them too much, after all, they were his moneybags.
Chapter 343 The Hunt for the Silver Surfer
On the surface of the sun, two dark figures were silently suspended. They were Adam and Christine, who had come to the sun to restore their eyes. After absorbing solar energy overnight, Adam's eyes were finally restored and could be used normally again.
“It’s time to go back.” Adam opened his eyes, smiled slightly at Christine’s worried face, and said.
"Are you alright now?" Christine asked.
"Yes, I'm recovered. It's getting late, let's go back." Adam kissed Christine and said, "The wedding is about to start, it'll be too late if we don't leave now."
Christine nodded slightly and said, "Then, let's go!" After she finished speaking, a golden light flashed, and the two of them disappeared into the vast universe.
----------------
Meanwhile, near the solar system, a spaceship shaped like a bullet was speeding along, and piloting it was Star-Lord, who had just escaped the pursuit of his former employer.
When Star-Lord hid the treasure and handed over a fake one, his assistant Horace inadvertently mentioned that the planet had suddenly exploded. Then, those guys suspected that Star-Lord had hidden the real treasure and began to hunt him down.
Star-Lord was truly desperate, and having just learned that Earth was being targeted by Thanos, he decided to go to Earth to inform his fellow citizens. So he found an excuse to ditch Horace, created the illusion of his spaceship exploding, and then boarded this small space shuttle to the solar system.
The first thing Star-Lord did after arriving in the solar system was to try to make contact with Earth. Just then, his message was intercepted by Athena. However, because Adam and Athena were unsure of Star-Lord's true purpose, they did not respond to his message. So Star-Lord continued to send messages as he approached Earth.
"Don't you trust me?" Star-Lord sent another message, but still received no response. He sighed and said, "Honestly, I finally decided to go home and visit, and now there's not enough time."
When Star-Lord was on Planet Targon in the Galactic Federation, he happened to see some aliens from other star systems. After all, Thanos's confidants had already revealed that Earth was in the Milky Way, and the first wave of people hoping to get the reward had come to this planet. After all, the Galactic Federation was the largest superpower in the nearby star systems, and most people came here to try their luck.
Star-Lord knew that given the current situation, it was only a matter of time before Earth's location was exposed. He didn't know what Earth was like now. When he left, Earth's technology wasn't very advanced, and only twenty-odd years had passed. In Star-Lord's view, no matter how much Earth developed, it could never compare to these planets that had developed for many years and the aliens from these planets.
Therefore, Star-Lord is extremely anxious. He doesn't know what will happen if Thanos finds Earth. Although the Galactic Federation does claim to control all the planets in the galaxy, it wouldn't offend the overlord of another galaxy for the sake of a backward planet that hasn't even entered the space age. After all, the Galactic Federation is on the technological side, possessing powerful technology but not ridiculously strong individual power. Thanos, on the other hand, is on the mystical side, with ridiculously strong individual power. The Galactic Federation wouldn't choose to offend him unless absolutely necessary.
So why would Star-Lord go back to Earth knowing it's so dangerous? Besides Earth being his home planet, another reason is that he heard about a group of people on Earth who seemed to have managed to hold back the Chitauri invasion. Star-Lord was very interested in these people, and most importantly, he believed that the mysterious artifact he possessed should be able to help Earth overcome its difficulties.
Because the small space shuttle is very fast, although its defensive capabilities are not very good, it is more than enough for traveling. So he quickly arrived near Jupiter and will be able to reach Earth in a little while.
At that very moment, he finally received a message from Earth.
"Who are you? Why are you approaching Earth?"
The message was only a single sentence, but it seemed that people on Earth regarded him as an enemy.
“Hey, have you guys forgotten me? I’m Star-Lord,” Star-Lord replied immediately.
"Oh, Star-Lord, it's you. But I still have some doubts about you, so please don't continue to approach Earth, but come to this location instead!" Star-Lord received this message after a short while, along with a coordinate.
Star-Lord came to help Earth, so he didn't get angry because of the suspicion. He replied to the other party and then entered the coordinates into the spaceship's controller.
-------------------
On the watchtower.
Athena, who had just received Star-Lord's reply, sighed and said, "Sigh, really. We just encountered a powerful enemy, and now Star-Lord has found Earth again. What a troublesome time."
Ultimately, Athena still couldn't trust Star-Lord. After all, if this person were truly from Earth, in such a situation, a simple reminder would usually suffice; it's highly suspicious that he would personally return to Earth.
Therefore, Athena had no choice but to keep the enemy within the watchtower's attack range and try to buy some time. After all, a war concerning the fate of the Earth was taking place, and the trigger was the wedding of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, which everyone was watching!
On Earth, atop a building in New York City, most of the people present today were superheroes, with only a small number being the bride and groom's close friends and family. Furthermore, Dr. Reed knew that the main objective wasn't just the wedding, but capturing the Silver Surfer. Well, while somewhat embarrassed, Dr. Reed was willing to sacrifice his own wedding for the sake of Earth's well-being.
"Have Christine and Mr. Adam arrived yet?" In a room, Susan was starting to prepare with the help of her friends. Seeing that Christine had not yet arrived, she asked with some concern.
"Hi, I think I hear someone calling me." Just then, Christine, dressed in a formal gown, walked into the room and smiled.
"Why are you so late?" Susan asked Christine. "Did something happen again?"
"It's okay, come on, let me help you." Christine saw that Susan hadn't put on her wedding dress yet, so she went over to help Susan put it on.
Time passed slowly, and it was time for the wedding to begin. Susan's parents had died long ago, so Christine helped Susan to the priest and handed her over to Dr. Reed, who was waiting.
"I wish you happiness," Christine whispered, then returned to her seat to wait for the priest to begin the wedding ceremony.
Meanwhile, Dr. Reed had already activated the Silver Surfer's locator. The special fluctuations emitted by the machine made it impossible for the Silver Surfer to calm down. Annoyed, he followed these fluctuations to the wedding venue of Susan and Dr. Reed.
Unlike these superheroes, the Silver Surfer was completely silent when he flew, so even Adam didn't notice his arrival immediately. However, the Silver Surfer hated the vibrations emitted by the locator, so he used his power to directly destroy New York City's power supply system.
