"Oh, this?"
William picked up the completed exam paper and casually checked the work of the quill pen.
"Yes, Professor."
"It's not an exam paper."
William shook his head and responded with a smile.
These words put the two brothers, one near and one far, at ease—although Professor Lockhart seemed quite busy, what if he suddenly decided to ask Professor William for the exam paper?
"The exam papers are finished. This is homework for those who failed."
Kucha…
Something cleaved down.
Chapter 105 The Hogwarts Weekend Begins
Sundays at Hogwarts are always quiet and peaceful, and today was no exception.
But in an empty classroom in the corner of the castle, the quiet was broken by a group of students arguing incessantly.
“Weasley brothers, it’s the weekend, early in the morning. Can’t we talk about this in the morning or even at noon?”
The person speaking had a pair of strikingly dark circles under their eyes, giving off an air of 'I'll fight you to the death if you don't give me an explanation.'
In the past, such a minor conflict would have been quickly resolved by others, but today, everyone remained tacitly silent, showing no intention of offering a way out—it was only 5:30 on Sunday, and if the Weasley brothers didn't give everyone a good explanation, they could expect to be hung upside down from the tower.
"Tell me? Ha! You Hufflepuffs have a lot of people, so those two asked an early-rising senior to call everyone out—do you know how those two bastards managed to call me? They sent me a howling message by owl first thing in the morning, and even told me to bring everyone else out!"
'That roaring message is so mean!'
This was almost everyone's first reaction, followed by barely suppressed laughter.
"Laugh, what are you laughing at? -- The people in our dorm said that if you two don't give a reasonable explanation, they're planning to ambush you and hang you on the door of Filch's office!"
"Why are you saying such unlucky things so early in the morning!"
"Exactly! Aren't you afraid that stinky cat will target you?"
……
Perhaps the punishment was too harsh, causing everyone to start cursing the unlucky guy who was woken up by the shouting letter.
Meanwhile, the Weasley brothers, at the center of the conversation, looked with a sense of accomplishment at their group of friends who had been called up—all of them frequent visitors to Filch's office, messengers of Hogwarts' secret passages and shadows, companions of Peeves, and... the warden's mortal enemies.
They did it on purpose, of course—their Quidditch captain, Wood, had woken everyone up early for Quidditch practice, and they needed to deal with the explosive news they'd heard last night. Were they the only ones working hard for the collective good?
Of course not! The right choice is for everyone to work together towards a common goal!
As for the roaring letters and the like, they are nothing compared to this terrible problem.
“What’s all this noise about?” The two exchanged a glance, got up from the table and landed on the floor. “We have an urgent matter to inform you. This is something we’ve done at great risk, potentially extending our confinement. The new Professor William has produced a huge pile of papers, not just exams, but also homework assignments.”
"real or fake?"
"sky!"
……
"Of course it's true. We were in solitary confinement all night and took a great risk to find out."
The two spoke in unison, guaranteeing the reliability of the news—but this did little to cheer up the gossiping crowd.
"Homework? What kind of news is that? We already have that—I was doing those worksheets until 1 a.m. yesterday, and then you guys woke me up this morning. If I had known it was about this, I would have slept in a little longer. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now—oh right, you two wait for me until I've had enough sleep."
The student with dark circles under his eyes instantly lost interest; he still had a paper to write and a lot of homework to do after waking up.
"What do you mean 'that's all'? This is information we worked so hard to compile! You've fallen!"
"I'll just treat it as more papers. Anyway, I think I can get an excellent grade on the first paper after finishing those assignments—the professor is probably right, my foundation has indeed fallen behind."
"You finished? That's four whole papers!"
The other fifth-grade students were amazed; they hadn't worked that hard, and their papers were barely started.
"Can I borrow your test paper to copy?"
"Okay, come get it when I wake up—I'm too sleepy, I'm leaving now."
"Okay, see you next time."
As the classroom door closed, everyone turned their attention back to the Weasley brothers—if the fifth graders didn't care, why were you fourth graders in such a hurry?
"Guys, if we don't go back soon, Wood will be gone, and Quidditch training is about to begin—so to make a long story short, the fifth-year students probably think so many tests are normal, but what if Professor Lockhart gets tired of fan games? What if something even worse happens, and the professors of other subjects start giving in-class quizzes too?"
"Really? Professors have their own teaching techniques. That new professor has only been here for less than a year, how could he possibly get the other professors to take exams in class?"
"Why not? We heard yesterday that Professor Binns might be conducting the History of Magic exam!"
Why didn't you say so sooner!
A group of students, ranging from second to seventh grade, began to gasp in surprise—Professor Binns was recognized by all generations of students as the most consistent professor in teaching!
"Alright, we need to go train now. I hope you can come up with a good solution—our future depends on you."
After the twins finished speaking, they hurriedly left the classroom, leaving everyone stunned and wide awake.
……
"Whose idea was it for the fourth-grade discussion last time? We weren't there, but it wasn't handled very well, was it?"
Those who were really undecided thought that the idea from last time seemed pretty good.
"It's the Weasley brothers, but Professor Lockhart's club is indeed very popular."
"Then shall we do as instructed?"
The person who said this noticed that the way the people around him looked at him had changed—he felt that he was being looked down upon.
"Professor Lockhart has a long-standing fan base, so it's understandable that Hogwarts has gained a new batch of fans—Professor William has only been here for less than a month, and the school has inexplicably gained a bunch of fans? What's the appeal? Is it his many tests? His many assignments? His extensive knowledge and his interesting and humorous courses?"
"Ahem, as far as the sixth-grade curriculum is concerned, Professor William teaches quite well."
A sixth-grade student couldn't help but chime in.
"Seventh grade too, I felt great."
"This isn't a class, and it's not in Filch's office. Is this what we're discussing?"
The person who spoke glanced at the two people who had stood up to interrupt and realized that there was a traitor in the group.
"Give the new professor something to do—whoever writes well, imitate a bold girl and send her a love letter directly, but don't be too direct. Just say you're considering the impact, like a secret crush, and secretly hand it over to the professor so he can find it!"
That's too mean!
"It's alright. Just wait until the end of the year and say that you've realized your mistake, offer your best wishes, and say that you'll remember this time. As long as you don't expose it, the professor will only see it as a fond memory."
The speaker boldly added details, but to his surprise, there was no applause or cheers.
"Mrs. Lorris!"
Someone shouted from below, and then everyone immediately rushed to the door.
Amidst a commotion of chickens running, dogs barking, and students yelling at each other to run, Hogwarts' weekend began.
Chapter 106 left Professor McGonagall speechless.
Sunday is a rare day when you can sleep in.
Even William, who hadn't wasted much time since leaving Azkaban, luxuriously turned off his alarm clock, intending to sleep until the sunlight reached his bed—which, due to the bed's location, was usually after nine o'clock.
However, William, who was fast asleep, was awakened by shouts coming from inside the castle. It should be noted that the soundproofing of the lounge attached to this office was exceptionally good.
"What happened? Why is it so noisy so early in the morning?"
William yawned as he got up, not even bothering to change out of his pajamas, and immediately summoned his house-elves.
"Bart?"
The house-elf didn't arrive immediately this time. Just as William was wondering what he was busy doing, a soft sound rang out, and the house-elf appeared in his room.
"Professor, this is your breakfast. I'm sorry, Mischief is causing trouble in the kitchen again, so it's been taking a little longer to prepare."
"It's alright, it was very quick, thank you. Bart, what happened at the castle? What's all this noise?"
Although he wasn't very hungry yet after waking up, William still sincerely thanked the little elf—but, is the little elf just clocking in for work, going to the kitchen all the time?
"You mean the shouts from the castle? Please wait a moment, Professor."
The house-elf disappeared, but returned with a soft sound in just five minutes.
“Some students were plotting mischief, but Mr. Filch cornered them in an empty classroom. Although they tried to escape, Mr. Filch memorized all their faces and names and is now arresting them along the academy grounds.”
"Arresting people right next to the college?"
William finally understood why Filch wasn't well-regarded by the students—no wonder his methods of attracting students were so unpopular!
-
William thought the morning's incident was just a minor incident, but he never expected that it would resurface after he returned from swimming in the Black Lake for an hour after breakfast.
Just as he was returning to the castle, Mr. Filch suddenly appeared.
"Professor William, I heard that you and Professor Binns have a big project to do. I happen to have a group of children who have made mistakes. If it's someone other than the ones you need, how many people do you need?"
"The more the better, but don't the other professors need to put students in solitary confinement?"
Due to Professor Binns's unexpectedly demanding work situation, William actually had quite a lot of work to do. However, Hogwarts is not a laboratory where professors can lock students up and do odd jobs just because they lack manpower—students are, after all, students, not graduate students, and cannot be ordered around as they please.
"Too many, Professor. We've caught far too many this time—there aren't even enough toilets in the hospital to go around. All the requests from professors have been fulfilled, and I prepared students for you according to your needs well in advance. But even though everyone's work is arranged, there are still students left over. We've caught far too many students this time."
Mr. Filch's happy expression gave William the illusion that his own land had just yielded a bountiful harvest.
'How many people were arrested exactly? We didn't have enough students who made mistakes before; we had to take turns dealing with them. Are there really so many left today?'
This reminded William of the story he'd ignored that morning about Mr. Filch arresting students along the college floor—'It seems Bart wasn't exaggerating at all, and might even be a bit conservative.'
"So many students made mistakes?"
“Yes, they were gathered in an empty classroom—a classroom full of people on a weekend morning. I was watching the Weasley brothers—you should remember them, right?”
William nodded heavily. As a professor, seeing that thick stack of disciplinary records, he probably wouldn't forget the student's name—not to mention that the two of them were still under his supervision.
