"Yes, you guessed it, it's probably an opera—Professor Kettleburn is retiring, and I just saw him enjoying it. I suspect he's planning something big, like a performance at the school before he retires."
Adams looked at William and nodded in agreement with his idea.
"No way?"
William raised a question, but he himself didn't believe it—this lively old man was far too senior, Professor McGonagall certainly couldn't stop him, and Dumbledore probably wouldn't dare to stop him either—none of that mattered, but if Professor Lockhart, who loved to show off, were added to the mix, who knows what kind of trouble would ensue!
After today's performance ignited Professor Kettleburn's passion for opera, William found it hard to believe that Professor Kettleburn wouldn't seek collaboration with Professor Lockhart. Although he usually enjoyed watching the drama unfold, he still carried a curse on his shoulders!
Last time, the school auditorium was burned down, resulting in a large number of teachers and students being hospitalized. This time, sending a newly appointed professor to the hospital with missing limbs or something sounds perfectly logical.
Professor Kettleburn is the kind of person who has lost two and a half of his limbs, and William has no doubt that if something really happened, this professor could lose a leg—he knows of more magical creatures that can cause permanent wounds than you can count on one hand!
-
Someone of Professor Kettleburn's age certainly wouldn't listen to advice. In fact, the old professor didn't even appear at the dinner table that evening. According to the portrait in the castle, the old professor had become incredibly energetic.
Therefore, William began to carry a large amount of white cinnamon for treating wounds, and increased the amount of dung stones he carried with him—a herbal antidote—to three.
What could he do?
When Professor Kettleburn began preparing his plans, even Professor McGonagall's advice was of no use. How could a new professor possibly manage an old colleague?
Besides, he was just guessing... How can you convict someone based on a guess? It's baseless!
Don't be fooled by Adams's playful banter; when the old professor needs people, they'll definitely volunteer enthusiastically. What bad intentions could an old professor who has dedicated his life have?
-
Contrary to most people's expectations, Professor Lockhart's club was a great success. On the first night, long lines formed at his office. Although those who came out to inquire did not forget to ask for an autograph, this did not affect Professor Lockhart's reputation among students, which had suffered a significant loss.
Even at the dinner table the following day, Professor Lockhart began to talk about his course—the first time this had happened since his first failed attempt.
“We need to show them the bigger picture. Clinging to a single spell will only broaden their horizons. I bet they’re looking forward to today’s lesson. Well then, goodbye, Professor William.”
Lockhart greeted William and the others, then got up and headed to the classroom.
"Looking into the distance, things are alright, Professor Lockhart. I just hope you don't collaborate with Professor Kettleburn. You're just bringing some Death Songs to unleash your ultimate abilities. If the old professor really wants to put on a play, I suspect the curse effects won't even last until the premiere; you'll have to leave the school by the time of rehearsals."
But this matter obviously cannot be discussed—neither the curse of the course nor the old professor's burning of the Great Hall is a secret, something William knows, and Professor Lockhart, a Hogwarts graduate, obviously cannot be unaware of. Pointing it out would not only fail to serve as a warning but would also offend a lot of people.
With a sigh, William put down his cutlery and got up to leave the table.
"I'm going to class now, see you later."
"See you."
-
"Good morning, students! It's been a week. How are you feeling today?"
"It feels like a great professor, it's just a bit of a shame he can't wear a hat."
The bolder student continued William's words.
Last time, it was the seventh-year students who started wearing hats to Professor Snape's class. After that incident, Professor McGonagall strictly forbade students in her house from wearing hats in class.
The students also joined in with wicked smiles. Professor Snape was far too biased towards his own house, and had a terrible reputation among the students.
"Alright, let's leave the hat issue behind for now. It's a gentleman's agreement: you won't wear hats in my class, and I won't deduct your points for it—that's settled then."
William exaggeratedly made a gesture as if a deal had been struck, then slapped the table.
"Alright, now let's not talk about hats anymore. Hmm—internships are all about clothes and transportation, so let's talk about Apparition."
"Now, those who have passed the Apparition exam, please raise your hands."
Everyone in the classroom raised their hands—those who could self-study for advanced classes must have a solid foundation in other magic.
“Fantastic—it’s great that everyone is good at it, even though we didn’t plan to teach it.”
"So, can someone tell me what the most common problems with Apparition are?"
"Split, Professor."
A Gryffindor raised his hand and answered the question at the same time.
"There are no problems, but the questions are too simple, so they don't add any points."
A disappointed voice came from below, but William ignored it.
"That's right, a split wound—one of the most common injuries. In this lesson, we'll talk about how to deal with common wounds."
On the second day of school, William changed his schedule for the first time due to his concerns.
Chapter Ninety-Seven: Theoretical Curriculum Reform and Practical Course
Trauma healing has always been a major part of the traditional Defense Against the Dark Arts course, and even though the course name has been changed, William has no intention of removing it from the curriculum.
However, considering that the seventh-grade students would be participating in internships, he would change the first three classes into introductory courses related to the internships—in a way, he would let these students get in touch with knowledge that was different from what they learned in school.
But now it seems that teaching students trauma treatment and emergency evacuation is also very important. Although it's a bit far-fetched to ban two professors from performing a play based on a speculation, no one will gossip about his proactive approach of teaching students how to protect themselves.
'But this doesn't really engage the students—although I had planned ahead, I was still unprepared for the last-minute topic change.'
William observed the students' reactions below and found that their level of understanding was significantly different from the previous class—which was unavoidable, as William was not a seasoned professor who could easily go through the course content without even looking at the textbook.
Halfway through the lesson, the students below clearly lost their focus, so William had to put down his prepared lesson plan and then joke with the students.
"Everyone's not very enthusiastic—but there's nothing we can do about it. You can't expect me to injure the students so you can treat them, can you? How about this—you guys have a fight, and we'll choose the students with the most impressive injuries to treat. The more serious the injury, the more points you get?"
"Professor, shouldn't the opponent get extra points?"
"Exactly, exactly, the treatment effect can also be used as a bonus point."
The students who were drowsy below suddenly began to speak enthusiastically. As they answered, they stood up and began to take out their wands to control the desks and chairs, making them float to the edge of the classroom.
This skillful move stunned William, who was joking above—I was just making a joke to lighten the mood, what are you guys doing? Are you all so good at taking action?
However, he wasn't one to spoil the fun. The course already included a practice session for students, and now it was just being moved forward. With students so eager to get hands-on, it wasn't a big deal to turn theory into practice.
So he simply crossed his arms and smiled as he watched the students below quickly move the tables and chairs. Once they had all moved them, he smiled and began to speak to everyone.
"The students who started first were very diligent. You guys will each get one point, and then help restore the classroom to its original state. The rest of you, come with me. I just cleaned up a classroom for the battle yesterday."
(?_?)
After leaving the few stunned students to tidy up the classroom, William led the rest of the students directly to the classroom he had used for training the day before. The protective measures there were more professional, and the medicines were all available, so he wasn't worried about these students causing any trouble.
Ever since he was cursed, William has devoted a long time to studying healing spells. After arriving at Hogwarts, he has focused a significant portion of his energy on them. To put it bluntly, even if these students broke their legs, William could handle it properly—at least he could ensure that the injury wouldn't worsen due to transfer or miss the opportunity for treatment before they were sent to the school hospital.
"Alright, let's wait for the remaining students and get the sparring equipment ready—I don't think you guys really like lying on the floor."
William waved his hands, directing the students, who were about to jump for joy, to get the training equipment ready—though he didn't think anything serious would happen in this class.
To put it bluntly, if they really wanted to inflict injuries requiring emergency treatment, both sides would have to go all out. But William had no intention of having the colleges with deep-seated conflicts team up, so a head-on clash was simply impossible.
'If it really results in injuries like that, I'll accept it. After all, when I check the records, every year students end up in the school hospital because of fights that went too far. At least I can keep an eye on things.'
Wands are far more dangerous than swords. Training a group of people to fight with swords requires being prepared for bloodshed. Expecting wizards to not bleed when they are training themselves to defend themselves is a joke. Hogwarts' school hospital can provide inpatient treatment for students. Such a level of professionalism cannot be achieved by relying solely on theoretical knowledge from books.
It didn't take long for the students who had stayed behind to tidy up the classroom to come to the battle room and form teams on their own at William's request.
"Alright, in the order of registration, each pair will go up for a duel. When I call 'stop,' the attack will cease. If the opponent falls to the ground or is disarmed, they will be considered to have won. The use of black magic is strictly prohibited. If it occurs, the person will be placed in confinement."
William immediately banned most of the offensive magic—there was no other way, as there were too many permanent crippling spells in dark magic.
Despite this, the students still had a lot of fun. Other courses generally did not allow students to fight each other, and fighting on campus was even more likely to result in points being deducted and detention. One of the main reasons this course was popular was that students could openly and legitimately engage in magical attacks against each other.
Before the last two pairs of students practiced together, the most serious problem William dealt with was that the student had mastered the curse too well but had not learned how to break it—for which William deducted two points from him.
"Next pair, get ready."
William announced lazily—his original lesson was about the trauma caused by various forms of magic, which had caused quite a stir among the students, but now, without even a drop of blood, these kids were just seventh graders who were under too much pressure to find jobs and had come here to play.
'Fine, let them play then. I'll get some rabbits for the next class; we need to practice treatment eventually—I was just too hasty this time, so I'll let them off the hook this time.'
But the tense atmosphere immediately told William that this was not a simple game. William looked at the list again and realized something was wrong—this time, one of the two students was from Slytherin and the other from Gryffindor.
"Get ready, remember the rules, black magic is strictly prohibited!"
William reiterated the regulations and then became extremely attentive.
A powerful spell immediately separated the two, preparing to cast an armor charm for protection and a disarming spell to remove the wand.
William stared intently at the two, while the two on stage swiftly drew their wands amidst the breathless silence of the onlookers.
The armor that appeared almost simultaneously made William give it a mental thumbs up, and then the two began the next spellcasting—wait, that kid over there, that's!
William almost instantly cast a bubbly curse on himself, and then was hit by a rapidly thrown dung ball towards the other side.
As a foul odor spread through the classroom, the other person who was hit was stunned for a moment before rushing over with the exploded dung ball in hand, forgetting to even use their magic wand.
The already cramped dueling area was quickly traversed, and then, to William's astonishment, the two began to wrestle.
'Where's the curse? Where's the disarmament? Are you two wizards?'
William looked up at the ceiling and then decided not to call a halt for the time being.
Chapter Ninety-Eight: The second week of work passed just like that.
"Damn it, I'll teach you to throw it! I'll teach you to throw it!"
Without William's signal to stop, the two wizards who were wrestling finally came to a conclusion. The one who threw the dung ball was pinned to the ground, taking a lot of punches, and had a visibly bruised eye.
The other one wasn't much better off; a large piece of his robe was torn off, a lock of his hair was missing, and blood was flowing from the corner of his mouth. Apart from his smug expression, which revealed him to be the victor, the two men looked almost identical.
Just as he was about to show off to those around him, he noticed the professor with the Bubble Hair Curse and realized that he was in class.
"Professor, you saw it yourself, he attacked first!"
Very good, this child knows to tattle first; he has potential.
William nodded in agreement. "That's right, I saw it. He tried to attack you with a dung ball. Although it's not against the rules, it's certainly malicious. Similarly, you two didn't use any dark magic in your fight, so it's not against the rules either."
“That’s great, Professor.”
He excitedly took a few steps forward, as if wanting to share his joy with others, but both his classmates and William, who was a professor, took a step back.
'What's this kid's name again? Oh right, Roy.'
“Roy, calm down. I haven’t finished explaining my plan. If you come any closer, I’m afraid I’ll have to send you to Mr. Filch on charges of attempting to assault a professor.”
William tried his best to express his dislike in a tone that didn't seem to be one of disgust.
