"Just get through this year, and there won't be any homework next summer..."
Lupin would use these words to motivate him and encourage him to do his homework better—which was true. According to the twins, even the notoriously difficult self-defense course was as enchanting as a breezy soccer field in sixth grade.
It was a very strange description—but Harry could definitely feel their excitement.
The problem is, he's in fifth grade this year...
"There are still... one, two... only five days left until the holiday starts!"
Harry exclaimed in surprise—the holiday is over already?
This was terrible. He lifted his head, which was feeling dizzy, called Hedwig over, and began writing a letter to Cho.
Although he couldn't talk about his Animagus transformation training, he still had many things he wanted to share with Cho—such as Snape's bizarre potion-making assignments, Lupin's time-consuming papers, and Professor McGonagall's somewhat simple…
'Huh? Easy?'
Harry realized something was wrong as soon as he wrote it down—but after thinking about it carefully, he realized that the magic was ridiculously simple, as if he could understand it at a glance…
After writing densely on two sheets of parchment, Harry put the letter away and tied it to Hedwig's leg. "You know where to send it..."
After Hedwig happily flew away, Harry suddenly realized he wasn't sleepy at all.
He cheered and headed downstairs—Sirius and Lupin, each with a controller, looked far from being wizards.
"Homework done, Harry?"
"It's done!"
Harry said with a hint of smugness, "Although my History of Magic is terrible, almost everyone is like that. As for Divination, it's even simpler. Anyway, the professor just wants to see him die, and he's heading in that direction to become a savior."
“Perfect timing, let’s go buy some books for the new year tomorrow. Your new school year notice arrived a while ago, and Moonface has been keeping it for you.”
As Sirius spoke, he snatched the handle from Lupin's hand, urging Lupin to hurry up and get the item out.
Lupin glanced at Sirius's opponent on TV, who was about to lose, and stood up without saying anything. He then went back to his room and soon retrieved Harry's new school year notice.
"That's all—I looked at the books, and we only need to buy three new books. Then we need to prepare a few new robes for Harry and replenish his potion ingredients as well."
"Huh? That's all? Let me see—"
Sirius paused for a moment, then took the envelope, shook it, shook it again, and stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
"Where's the class leader's badge?"
He looked at Lupin. "Stop joking, Moonface. Where's Harry's prefecture badge?—Prefects are elected in the fifth year!"
“I’m also very curious. Harry is clearly the best student in this year’s class, but he’s not a prefect…” Lupin shook his head. “I only remembered this when I was checking my mail the day before yesterday, and then I sent an email to the school to ask why, but I haven’t received a reply yet.”
"It's a cover-up, absolutely a cover-up!"
Sirius Black jumped up from the sofa. "Why isn't Harry a prefect?! I'm going to write to Professor McGonagall and ask her about this! Is there anyone more suitable to be a prefect than him?"
'Oh right...we're electing class monitors this year...'
Harry then remembered something—Percy was a prefect in his first year at school, and he used to love showing off his prefectural status.
However, he didn't seem too disappointed. Seeing Lupin and Sirius both indignant about it, Harry felt particularly happy, as if not being a prefect wasn't such a big deal.
Or rather—he never considered becoming a class monitor during this holiday, because he hadn't expected it, so he wasn't disappointed.
Just as he was deeply moved and about to go over and say something, an owl politely knocked on the window, and Sirius Black let it in with a wave of his wand.
"Like the school's owl, I want to see how the school responds—if they dare say that someone is better than Harry and more suitable to be a prefect, I'll ask who brought home the honor in the Triwizard Tournament!"
Sirius angrily took the letter from the owl's leg, then broke the seal and began to read it.
After reading only a couple of sentences, Sirius's anger vanished, and a smile appeared on his face.
"No wonder, no wonder, I knew it..."
"A class monitor? They're nothing special, we don't care, it's no big deal!"
These words made Lupin's expression turn unfriendly—sorry, he was just like that.
"What kind of letter is it?"
Lupin strode over, took the letter, read a few sentences, and a smile appeared on his face—a genuine smile.
Just as Harry was wondering what had happened, Sirius happily tried to lift Harry up and then handed him the letter.
Harry glanced at the letter and immediately noticed Professor William's handwriting at the very bottom.
He simply skipped the main text and started reading the less-than-official line.
[...The above is the document after Professor McGonagall's final review. At her behest, I'll give you a heads-up: as for Harry becoming a prefect, we discussed it in a meeting and then rejected it...]
Being a prefect is great, but how should I put it, it's also a very memorable experience, but he doesn't have that time anymore...
Upon seeing this, Harry suddenly sensed a dangerous aura approaching.
After he forced himself to read on, he realized that this feeling didn't come suddenly—
I've estimated that the privileges these four warriors will receive in their upcoming school life are comparable to those of the prefect, and the corresponding badges are being made—although I doubt they'll actually wear them...
(What privileges?)
Since he has privileges beyond those of a prefect, fulfilling the duties of a prefect would be a waste of Harry's time... He's already done most of his duties during the Triwizard Tournament...
This is the Year of OWLS, which is already busy enough. Dumbledore also plans to teach a class a week to the three remaining students, plus my extracurricular classes and the mentorship Professor Moody and I agreed on... dealing with the prefect's affairs on top of that would be a huge waste of time...
And I'm really not sure he can allocate time without special help...
"Unless it's a serious violation that doesn't result in a deduction of college points, you'll have the privilege of borrowing certain books, and all the benefits of being a class monitor!"
Sirius chuckled and patted Harry on the shoulder, "And there's Dumbledore's lessons too! Prefects don't get that privilege!!!"
Although school hasn't started yet, Harry feels like it already has...
Chapter 512 The Hogwarts Express on its way
"How come there's still so much homework..."
Ron was having a headache looking at the amount of homework he still had to do.
In previous years, the owl would bring him help from afar, and he would even have the energy to help Harry complete some of the assignments after consulting them—Harry was really not suited to doing summer homework, and Hermione would never help him with that.
'No, no, I'm not asking for help this year no matter what!'
When Ron was about to write a letter as was his habit, he shook his head and dismissed his thoughts.
This year was different from previous years; he received a prefectural badge—this unexpected surprise almost made him follow in Percy's footsteps and wear it on his chest all the time.
After sharing it with his family, his first thought was to share it with Harry, but he quickly realized something was wrong—his receiving the prefect's badge meant that Harry was no longer a candidate for the prefect's position.
This made him very upset and anxious. He even had the urge to write to ask if the school had made a mistake—after all, Harry had won the Triwizard Tournament trophy as a House Champion last school year…
'I have to do something…'
Although no one asked him to do anything, Ron still planned to complete all of his summer homework on his own, and also think about how to tell Harry that he had received the prefect's badge...
'But damn it, why is Transfiguration so difficult…'
"Da da..."
The knocking at the window snapped Ron out of his grumbling. He glanced out the window—it was Harry's Hedwig.
This discovery weighed heavily on his heart, and his steps slowed.
He hadn't figured out how to tell Harry about it yet.
So, naturally, because of his overly slow movements, Hedwig pecked his fingers twice—we all know each other so well, why are you still so slow?
With a touch of guilt, Ron unwrapped Harry's letter.
[...
Ron, honestly, I feel like I'm going to die—you know, I just finished my summer homework and then I saw the letter from the school…
...
This is truly a terrifying thing!
Fifth-grade curriculum! Training from Professor William! Training from Professor Moody! And weekly lessons from Dumbledore!
I can't even complain to Hermione about these things yet! You know what she'll say!
'She'll be dying of jealousy, Dumbledore himself gave her that lesson.'
Ron grinned—although the two of them were good friends with Hermione, they couldn't bring themselves to talk to Hermione about these kinds of things.
Hermione never felt she had too much homework; she only regretted not studying enough…
Especially since it was Dumbledore himself who taught the class—not to mention Hermione, even Ron himself felt that even in fifth grade, adding an extra class like this wouldn't be excessive.
[...
It was truly a terrible nightmare—by the way, I saw the professor's letter; it seems you were elected prefect, and so was Hermione. I didn't even have a chance to congratulate you…
]
'He knows?'
Ron was immediately relieved—now he didn't have to worry about how to tell Harry.
"...But I'm not bad either. I'll let you in on a secret: Snape can't deduct any points from me this year! I can't wait to see his expression; it'll be hilarious!"
Although this year will be incredibly busy, considering that, I can still barely accept it...
That would be fantastic.
Ron laughed, then read the letter again.
This is absolutely fantastic—Harry suddenly gained a lot of enviable privileges because of his excellent performance last year, but he's not bad either; he's a prefect now…
Everyone's going in... wait!
Ron glanced at the beginning of the letter, then at the owl eating its food, and quickly made a decision that wasn't difficult.
Harry! Help! Homework!!! Transfiguration, Potions, and Divination!!!
P.S.: I'll convince my mom to go shopping at Diagon Alley tomorrow; I hope I'll run into you.
After hastily scribbling these words on the parchment, Ron handed it to Hedwig, who nodded slightly.
"Please, Hedwig!"
