Monster Hunter in League of Legends
Chapter 18: Hunting Kha'Zix
Under Kha'Zix's incredulous gaze, Tarin, whose hand had been cut into, did not recoil from the pain; instead, he tightened his grip on Kha'Zix's claws.
This caused the claws, which had already cut into Tarlin's bones, to become firmly stuck in the bone gaps.
This was illogical. Kha'Zix instinctively sensed something was wrong and tried to retract his claws, but Tarin held on tightly, preventing him from pulling them back for a moment.
Then, in Kha'Zix's sight, Tarin's figure began to gradually expand.
Because of his dragon form, Tarin was already a head taller than Kha'Zix. Now, with his surging muscles, Tarin's body began to expand wildly.
Unlike the sound of bamboo cracking before, when fully released, the crisp sound of bones cracking drowned out all other sounds in the forest.
A blood aura even more violent than when he transformed into a dragon-human surged into the sky. The dark red muscles that originally covered his body rapidly grew and thickened, each swelled to the size of a palm, overlapped and intertwined, and gleamed with a cold light like congealed blood. Even the remaining fragments of armor were integrated into his tough skin, transforming into an indestructible blood-red barrier.
Tallinn's head was violently twisted and elongated, with protruding facial bones. The original human-shaped outline was completely torn apart, replaced by a ferocious and brutal head with a mouth that even extended to the neck.
Those scarlet vertical pupils were cold and piercing, devoid of any emotion. His mouth was stretched open, revealing sharp and thick fangs, like nail pullers, dripping with sticky saliva.
His neck was as thick as an old, mature tree, covered with thick calluses, and large bulges of muscle connected to his entire body, giving it an overwhelming sense of weight with every movement.
His arms grew thicker and larger, the hurled blade still in his hand, while the other one he held was directly assimilated during the transformation.
It was still gripping Kha'Zix's claws, but they were no longer the same hands that Kha'Zix had sliced through flesh and blood. Instead, they were a pair of massive claws as thick as tree trunks, with overlapping, multi-inch-long sharp claws extending from the fingertips. The edges of the claws were covered with fine serrations that reflected a dull arc of light in the sunlight.
Its tail is thick and long, strong and powerful, with thick tailbone covered with tough muscles similar to those around its neck, like a giant python. However, it does not need the smooth scales of a python to glide, but is covered with rough and thick keratin. With a light sweep across the ground, it leaves deep grooves in the rocks and can easily crush trees.
Kha'Zix couldn't understand why, in just a few breaths, the creature that had initially only given him some trouble and made him feel that if he could win and devour it, he would surely become a more powerful evolutionary material, had transformed into a terrifying behemoth eight meters long... no, at least nine meters long?
The dark red Odogaron appeared in the open space, one of its claws nimbly gripping Kha'Zix's claw.
However, before, Tallinn's hand had only grasped a portion of the claw.
Now, Tarin held Kha'Zix's entire claw in his palm.
The hard, keratinous scales pressed together, and the fine serrations wedged Kha'Zix's claws in the middle. It was impossible to cut them, or even pull them out.
Then, Tarin's massive body fell forward, its shadow engulfing the entire area and completely swallowing Kha'Zix.
Stale air billowed from the mouth and nostrils of the Odogaron, carrying a scorching, foul stench that caused the surrounding vegetation to shake violently, and the ground to tremble slightly under the increased weight of the Tarin.
"Great hunters always appear as prey... Look how cautious I am." Tarin sighed, but with the vocal organs of a draconian creature mixed with human ecology, the voice sounded unusually terrifying: "I'm afraid of scaring you away."
"Hiss, hiss!!"
Kha'Zix let out a sharp screech, filled with human-like fear and despair.
It is foreseeable that if Kha'Zix really gets away, having experienced despair and the feeling of "a good hunter appearing as prey," combined with the human memories he gained through devouring, Kha'Zix will become even more cunning.
He twisted his body desperately, and then with a fierce look, he severed his trapped left arm. But just as he turned around, trying to disappear and escape this desperate area, the world in his vision suddenly darkened, and then a large amount of viscous and stench rushed towards him.
"Perhaps you could try cutting off your own head as well."
Tarin's voice came from his throat—in his Odogaron form, Tarin's voice was similar to abdominal resonance, requiring no mouth to assist in vocalization. However, along with the abdominal resonance, a large gush of blood also spewed from Tarin's throat.
The only response to Tarin was Kha'Zix's hiss, and then, in despair, its carapace began a rapid metamorphosis. But in the next instant, Tarin snapped its jaws shut and bit off Kha'Zix's head.
thump.
With a dull thud, Kha'Zix's body hit the ground, and then Tarin spat out his head to the side.
[Hunter complete. Hunt target: Kha'Zix, the Void Reaper. Rewards: 1 Spirit Orb, 200 Hunting Points.]
Hunting settlement?
Upon noticing the system notification, a hint of surprise appeared in Tarin's eyes, because he had not received any results before this—whether it was defeating Nidalee or Rengar.
Or perhaps, although he defeated Rengar and Nidalee, he did not kill them?
While pondering, Tarlin kept his doubts to himself, intending to find out later, and instead focused his attention on another system prompt.
[The task is complete, and the reward has been issued. Please check your account promptly.]
Seeing that the mission was complete and the notification popped up, Tarin nodded in satisfaction, then spat out Kha'Zix's corrosive blood with a look of disgust.
It's a bit disgusting.
After dealing with Kha'Zix, Tarin glanced at his own body.
Compared to its eight-meter length when it first arrived in Runeterra, Tarin's current length in its Odogaron form has indeed increased considerably.
Or rather, it has finally returned to its normal growth rate.
To adapt to the harsh environment of the Rotten Vale, wild Odogaron grows extremely fast—those that grow too slowly cannot adapt to the harsh living conditions and survival competition of the Rotten Vale.
Previously, in the Monster Hunter's outpost, Tarlin's natural instincts were suppressed, and his growth rate was hampered by the Hunter's Guild's protection of the ecosystem. But upon arriving in the jungles of Ixtal, he no longer needed to suppress his nature, and Tarlin's growth rate surged.
After confirming that his body had not suffered any damage, Tarin then opened the system to check the status of his gains.
There's no rush to draw a prize in a lower ecological niche, because such prizes are often accompanied by the ecological evolution of the body, so Tallinn plans to wait until he returns to a safe area before drawing.
Hunting points are awarded almost immediately after Tallinn selects to claim them; a points shop section then appears on the original system page.
Clicking through, however, did not bring up the Monster Hunter universe's system shop, but rather two separate spinning wheels.
One is a points-based lottery, and the other is a niche-based lottery.
I took a quick look. The former is a points lottery, where you draw lots based on the points earned after each hunt. Each draw costs 100 points and there is no guaranteed minimum reward.
Somewhat confused, Tarlin clicked on the question mark next to him to inquire about how to obtain hunting points.
After briefly reading the answer pop-up, Tallinn nodded thoughtfully.
Most system points are obtained through combat and hunting, but complete hunting, which means killing enemies, yields more points and has a certain probability of dropping high-value items. For example, Kha'Zix dropped two orbs.
Under normal circumstances, common prey, such as shadow wolves, will mostly only drop some points.
Before collecting the hunting rewards and quest bonuses for Kha'Zix, Tarlin already had over 500 points in his system.
These points should be from defeating Rengar and Nidalee, plus the points gained from hunting food.
Adding the 500 from the mission reward and the 200 from the hunting settlement, Tarlin now has over a thousand hunting points.
One hundred points are needed for each draw, and a guaranteed bead is given for each proficient player. So, Talin decided to give it a try with a ten-draw.
【获得物品:秘药×1、恢复药G×1、蜂蜜×3、燕雀石×1、古老龙骨×1、回复蜜虫×1,体力珠×1,攻击珠×1。】
Attack Jewel?!
Upon seeing the red decorative icon that had appeared, Tallin's eyes lit up. He then clicked "extract," and soon felt a weight in his palm as a red gem, roughly the size of a pigeon's egg, appeared.
Holding it in his hand, Tarin carefully felt its power and quickly discovered that when he held the attack bead, the gem emitted a warm current that enhanced his body's coordination whenever he exerted his muscles. Although it wasn't much, it was still a considerable boost.
Open the item description.
It's a power boost in Wilderness Mode.
After seeing the diagram illustrating the bead's rank, Tarin nodded thoughtfully.
According to Tarin's observations, the system is a combination of Monster Hunter World, Rise of the Monsters, and Wildlands. Among them, Monster Hunter World, as the first HD title, provides relatively conservatively equipped decorations.
Although attack jewels have seven levels, there is no power multiplier after level three. Instead, they increase the base attack value and add some critical hit chance. The increase of three points in base attack power at level one only becomes +21 base attack power and +5% critical hit chance at level seven.
During the rise of the game, although the level 1 attack power is also +3, the attack multiplier will reach 1.10 at level 7, and then increase by 10 points of attack power.
In the system, at least in terms of levels, it's more similar to the five levels in the Wilderness, and the multipliers at levels four and five are the same as in the Wilderness. The only difference is that the power increase has changed from a numerical value in the game to vague terms like "micro," "small," and "medium."
According to Talin's perception, these so-called trace amounts, small amplitudes, and medium amplitudes are not related to Talin himself, but rather are calculated based on the power enhancement provided by the beads.
In other words, if someone with myasthenia gravis obtains a level 5 attack bead, the power increase they receive is only a significant increase within the bead's level; it's the power of a level 5 bead, not an immediate grant of immense power to the holder.
However, there is no second attack bead yet, so Tarin cannot be sure how much these power enhancements actually amount to.
Ultimately... if I remember correctly, the world does indeed give you an attack orb directly.
Hopefully, this is a setting from the wilderness, so the drop rate will be higher...
As for stamina orbs... that's actually the template from the Monster Hunter world.
Wearing it will directly increase your extra health.
However, there are three levels of stamina orbs, and Tarlin already has three... I'll give them to Nidalee later.
Tarin thought to himself—these beads are products of intermediate-level dragon vein alchemy, and theoretically, Tarin could also refine them himself if he had enough materials. However, beads that directly enhance physical strength and attack power often require certain monster materials, so for now, Tarin can only obtain them through hunting, quests, and the current lottery.
With that in mind, Tarin also equipped himself with the Angry Jewel and Attack Jewel he had obtained from Kha'Zix's hunt.
The effect of the Spirit Jewel extends the duration of weapon status effects, such as the Spirit Gauge on the Long Sword, the Demon Gauge on the Dual Blades, and the Red Shield and Red Sword on the Charge Blade.
Similarly, there are duration-enhancing beads, which can extend the duration of consumable effects. Examples include Demon Drugs, Hardening Drugs, Cold Drinks, and Hot Drinks.
Not bad, Tarlin thought to himself—he could only equip five sets of beads in total, and if he got any related beads in the future, he would probably focus on the power multiplier, so he simply didn't pay much attention to it.
Tarlin has a fairly clear plan for beaded equipment.
Simply put, since we're still in the development stage, safety and stability should be the priority. For example, among the five sets of beads that Tarin is currently equipped with, apart from the newly added Attack and High Spirit beads, the remaining three sets of max-level beads are all Stamina beads that increase maximum stamina, Quick Recovery beads that increase wound healing speed, and Quick Consumption beads that increase the consumption and effectiveness of consumables.
Once you've developed enough physical attributes to compensate for the enhancements from the beads, it's not too late to consider switching to beads related to attack, critical hit, focus, elemental damage, etc.
After ten consecutive draws, there were still a little over three hundred points left.
After thinking it over, Tarin felt that a guaranteed 10-pull was probably safer than hoping for a miracle with a single pull, so he didn't use it easily. Instead, he turned his attention to another wheel on the side—the next niche lottery.
