Monster Hunter in League of Legends
Chapter 17: Fierce Battle with Kha'Zix
Realizing he had become Kha'Zix's easy target, Tarin's eyes narrowed slightly—while excellent hunters often appear as prey, to be immediately labeled an easy target...
Without hesitation, Tarin chased after the trail that Kha'Zix had revealed.
Tarin had considered releasing the flare immediately, but it seemed that Kha'Zix's intelligence had clearly evolved since his previous battle with Rengar. Without knowing how to restrict his movement, using the flare would likely startle him and cause him to disappear into the shadows.
Unlike in the game where there are long cooldowns and durations, Kha'Zix's invisibility in reality lasts for a significantly longer time and doesn't require a long wait like in the game. Without sufficient ecological data, Tarlin would have a difficult time chasing him if he wanted to escape.
Fortunately, Kha'Zix is a vengeful creature, and after luring Tarin a long enough distance, he quickly disappeared.
But Tarin didn't believe Kha'Zix had really left, and he immediately drew his twin swords, stood still, and sensed everything around him.
As perception amplified, even the wind in the forest seemed to suddenly cease, and the rustling of leaves stopped. The only sound in the entire area was Tallinn's heavy, steady breathing.
With his life energy perception and Odogaron hunting instincts unleashed to their fullest potential, all other noise was filtered out. In this almost still world, a sudden rustling of leaves reached Tarin's ears. This sound wasn't sudden, but rather a series of sounds forming a clear trajectory. Not the trajectory of wind, but the sound of some kind of predator—
"Found you!"
Looking to his side, Tarin swung his twin blades, accompanied by flames.
As the blade sliced through, a semi-transparent trail flashed across the previously empty area, accompanied by an inhuman howl, followed by a slightly muffled sound.
clang!
The blades clashed with the chitinous sharpness. Somewhat bewildered as to how Tarin had discovered him, Kha'Zix let out a low growl. But before he could even roar a few times, Tarin's blood energy surged, and in the instant he entered Demon Mode, his twin blades transformed into a shower of blades of light, slashing towards his figure.
Kha'Zix reacted just as quickly. The moment he sensed the danger, his membranous wings vibrated violently, and he quickly retreated. At the same time, his left claw lashed out, carrying dark purple void energy, to parry and collide with Tarin's twin blades.
The clang of metal on metal was deafening in an instant, but Tarin showed no fear on his face, nor did he have any intention of holding back or delaying. The moment he swung his sword, Tarin's body began to writhe, and as the steaming blood energy rose higher and higher, Kha'Zix clearly sensed something was wrong. He immediately let out a low growl and leaped backward, trying to create some distance.
But Tarin obviously wouldn't let Kha'Zix go so easily—Kha'Zix had previously treated him like an easy target, but now he knew he was a tough nut to crack. If Kha'Zix really got away, it would be difficult to catch up with him again.
While pondering, Tarin raised his hand and delivered a hook lock that struck Kha'Zix squarely on the back. Although it didn't penetrate directly, it firmly lodged itself in Kha'Zix's carapace, making it difficult for Kha'Zix to break free.
This caused Kha'Zix to let out a low shriek, seemingly sensing that something was wrong. But then he felt a tremendous force strike him, and his already not-so-large body was forcibly pulled back to the ground. Before he could react, several bullets landed on his body, leaving behind residue that was very noticeable in the field and emitted a unique scent.
Marking bullets are basic tracking ammo used by the slinger in Monster Hunter Wilds. Their core function is to create a permanent, visible color mark on a monster, making it easier for players to lock onto mission targets in complex environments or when multiple monsters are present.
Its function is similar to the Scoutfly in Monster Hunter World, but it is more portable and not limited by the environment in actual use. Furthermore, even if the monster runs away, burrows underground, hides, or enters complex terrain after being hit, it can still be clearly located.
Although he didn't know what the marks were, Kha'Zix was clearly quite intelligent. He immediately tried to scratch them with his claws, but unfortunately, no matter how much he scratched, the marks wouldn't budge. On the contrary, his claws ended up covered in marks.
Looking at the distinct color and peculiar smell of the mark, Kha'Zix, realizing it couldn't be easily removed, turned his gaze to Tarin and let out a ferocious roar.
Then, with a flying shell, Kha'Zix forcefully broke free of the hook on his back, letting out a sharp growl. The void energy around him suddenly surged and began to continuously permeate the marks that adhered to the shell. But in the end, only the semi-transparent figure became blurry again, and the marks on his body showed no sign of disappearing.
Reappearing, Kha'Zix bared his fangs, glaring menacingly at Tarin, his chitinous claws gleaming coldly. Though he appeared ferocious, he inwardly regretted not leaving immediately, instead choosing to hunt down an easy target first. Who would have thought that now leaving would be so difficult?
Tallinn didn't seem to care, and instead raised his hand to fire another signal flare.
As crimson smoke exploded in the sky above the forest, a hint of human anxiety appeared in Kha'Zix's eyes, clearly indicating that he had realized what the red smoke exploding in the sky represented.
Tarin continued, "You can't escape, Kha'Zix."
Kha'Zix didn't speak, but stared intently at Tarin, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings, as if searching for a way to leave.
Tallinn continued, "The color of the marking bullets on your body can last for more than three days, and the scent can last for more than ten days. And only I can detect and distinguish this special scent. In other words, as long as you're alive, you absolutely cannot leave this jungle."
Upon hearing this, Kha'Zix remained silent, only coldly turning his gaze towards Tarin.
Tarlin remained unmoved, calmly stating, "You ate people... so you should be able to understand some human language. Don't you have anything to say?"
Upon hearing Tarin's question, Kha'Zix remained silent at first, then finally opened his mouth and spoke haltingly, in a voice that seemed to be forcibly pieced together, "Nee... go, I, Kha, Zi, Ke, leave."
Hearing the sound, which was like movable type printing, Tarin narrowed his eyes slightly and decided to say a few more words to see just how far Kha'Zix's evolutionary abilities had gone.
"Farewell? Give up that delusion."
Tallinn said, "Today, either you kill me before the others arrive, or I kill you, or we kill you after the others arrive. There are no other options."
Upon hearing this, Kha'Zix bared his teeth, his face contorted with ferocity, but on the verge of exploding, he quickly regained his composure, revealing a human-like thoughtfulness. Then, with difficulty and intermittently drawing upon the memories he had devoured, he spoke:
"I devour, flesh-toothed beasts, seek revenge, and then evolve. It has nothing to do with you."
Tarin could sense that Kha'Zix didn't have much experience speaking, but now, feeling Kha'Zix's various reactions, a slight seriousness appeared in Tarin's eyes.
The speed of evolution and adaptation is far too fast.
At first, Kha'Zix's voice came out in broken, intermittent sounds. It was less like he was speaking and more like he was expressing the memories of being eaten through his mouth, with even the sound and tone of each word being different.
But now, in just a few breaths, his language skills have reached a whole new level.
While not using overly colloquial expressions, they are already able to clearly convey their meaning through word combinations...
But after careful consideration, Tarin realized that this wasn't evolution, but adaptation—this information must have already been recorded in Kha'Zix's mind through absorption, only to be used in the right environment. Now, forced by circumstances, he too began to adapt and learn.
They even learned to deceive... no, it should be said that they already knew how, having already begun to deceive when pretending to run away, but now they are applying it to communication.
Thinking this, Tarin nodded and then calmly said, "No wonder the once-prosperous Shurima Empire was brought down by the Void. They are indeed a troublesome enemy."
As he spoke, Tarin drew his twin swords, and the moment he lowered his head and then raised it again, his entire aura changed dramatically.
The bones cracked like bamboo splinters, and the already agile body began to expand at an astonishing speed. Flesh bulged, and scarlet scales emerged from beneath the skin, merging with the Odogaron armor on its body.
The visor and armor formed a second skin, and with each breath, Tarin exhaled two puffs of white breath.
Looking at Tarin's sudden change in condition, Kha'Zix's face also showed a human-like solemnity, or even a hint of regret.
Clearly, even Kha'Zix has now realized that Tarin, who appears to be the least impressive, is the most troublesome of the three who have arrived.
With nowhere to retreat, Kha'Zix no longer hesitated. His membranous wings vibrated, and accompanied by a buzzing sound, he charged toward Tarin at an astonishing speed.
As he approached Tallinn, the bone spur on his shoulder loosened and then shot out like a powerful crossbow bolt. Anticipating this, Tallinn dodged, and the bone spur struck the ground and trees, instantly corroding them and leaving scorched patches with a sizzling sound.
Kha'Zix was not discouraged by the failure of his first plan. Instead, he vibrated his membranous wings and accelerated to approach Tarin. His scythe-shaped forelimbs swung back and forth, accompanied by a whistling sound as the scythes in his hands collided at high speed with the twin blades in Tarin's hands.
Although he appeared thin, Kha'Zix's muscle density beneath his chitinous carapace was clearly far greater than that of an average person. However, it was obvious that compared to Tarin in his dragon form, he still looked somewhat lacking.
The twin blades were wreathed in fire, each combat technique accompanied by a powerful surge of flames. With each high-speed collision, the pair of hard chitinous shells visibly chipped and worn through.
Feeling Talinha's almost continuous power, Kha'Zix let out a low roar, and then his membranous wings vibrated again as he leaped backward, extending his twin blades to the sides.
With a sound of shedding its shell, the damaged forelimb fell to the ground, revealing a brand-new forelimb that had rapidly evolved.
Tallinn paid no attention to this and instead launched another attack forward.
Both hardness and strength have seen a considerable increase.
Sensing Kha'Zix's evolution, Tarin's eyes flashed with cold light. He wasn't too surprised, but simply calmly assessed Kha'Zix's current state.
The next moment, Tarin also noticed some subtle discord—after completing the evolution, Kha'Zix's forelimbs had changed in both weight and length.
Although it has become more powerful, it is clearly not as skilled in its form as before.
Although the new claws are powerful, if you don't know how to use them...
Concentrating, Tarin's eyes narrowed, and he suddenly swung out his short sword in his left hand. The blade spun and drew an arc, accompanied by flashes of fire, and the short sword accurately struck Kha'Zix's left wing. The blade sliced through the membranous wing, and dark purple corrosive blood gushed out!
With his wing veins severed, Kha'Zix let out a painful roar, but he also noticed the opening in Tarin's left side defense.
With a fierce glint in his eyes, Kha'Zix used one of his forelimbs to trap Tarin's hand, which was still gripping the knife, while the other swung with all its might, attempting to decapitate Tarin directly.
Meanwhile, within Kha'Zix's line of sight, Talin did not give up, but instead reached out to try to block Kha'Zix's slash.
This caused a clear glint of joy to flash in Kha'Zix's eyes—admittedly, the sudden changes in Tarin, the surge in strength, speed, and stamina made Kha'Zix somewhat regret choosing Tarin as his first target.
However, it seems that this creature in the material realm has no real experience of fighting to the death—or perhaps it is unaware of the astonishing sharpness and hardness of its evolved claws.
If it were before, Tarinna, having been strengthened several times through her half-dragon transformation, might have been able to barely block Kha'Zix's claws with her tough, thick-skinned hands.
But now, having completed the evolution, Kha'Zix's claws are no longer simple chitinous claws, but are imbued with pure void energy. Not to mention a pair of fleshy palms, even a steel Kha'Zix is confident that he can leave a clear slash mark.
As Kha'Zix had predicted, the claws made contact with the palm without encountering any significant resistance. They easily pierced the skin and flesh of the palm, with only slight resistance felt at the bone.
But just as Kha'Zix was about to slice off his entire hand, remove the head, devour it, and then evolve...
It suddenly discovered that the bodies of the beings in this material realm, which had already become terrifying and grotesque for unknown reasons, were beginning to grow larger and larger.
Stuck in that crevice, his forelimbs were not only impossible to pull out, but were even gripped tightly by Tarin.
