Stop it, the country really can't fit any more bans on the domestic entertainment industry.
Chapter 189 Feeding? Uncle Hat? I caught one.
A cool night breeze swept across the deathly silent square.
In the brazier atop the towering iron pillar, the firewood had burned to its last embers, leaving only scattered sparks flickering in the darkness, emitting faint sounds.
The strong smell of alcohol mixed with the smoky aroma of roasted meat, creating a strange smell in the air.
Li Mo'an stood up from the tiger-skin chair that symbolized power and calmly walked down from the platform.
People were lying haphazardly on the bluestone slabs.
Those bigwigs from various provinces were all completely drunk and unconscious at that moment.
Some were clutching empty wine jars, mumbling something incoherently; others lay sprawled on the ground, snoring loudly; still others simply lay down next to their own vomit, sleeping like dead pigs.
Li Mo'an walked lightly, stepping over the mess on the ground as he slowly made his way through the crowd.
His gaze swept over every face that gleamed with an oily red glow in the firelight.
When he walked up to Old Wang, the guy who had patted his chest and guaranteed he could drink a thousand cups without getting drunk, he stopped.
Old Wang's posture at this moment was quite comical. He slid off the chair, half of his body was stuck under the table, and he was still tightly clutching an empty vodka bottle in his hand. Saliva was dripping from the corner of his mouth, wetting the front of his shirt.
Li Mo'an bent down and gently probed the other person's carotid artery with his finger.
His pulse was strong and powerful, but his breathing carried a heavy smell of alcohol.
"Looks like he's really drunk."
He thought to himself, then straightened up and continued walking forward.
He inspected one by one the leaders who had been the most vocal before, including the burly northern leader and the bald tyrant.
Without exception, everyone had been completely intoxicated and fallen into a deep coma.
After confirming that everyone in the center of the square was completely drunk, Li Mo'an did not linger any longer.
He turned and walked toward a dimly lit, secluded corner at the edge of the square.
It was far from the crowds, with only a few piles of abandoned empty wine crates.
After standing still, he took out his phone from his pocket.
The screen lit up, its faint light illuminating his calm face.
Without the slightest hesitation, he pressed the dial button and skillfully entered a number he knew by heart.
The phone was dialed, and a series of regular "beep beep" sounds came from the receiver.
He wasn't using any encrypted private line, nor was it a secret number from the national security or military.
That string of numbers was the emergency call number for the Yanghai City Police Station in Yunnan Province, far away in Southeast China.
"When I communicated with Chief Lei before, we did manage to exchange code words, but I forgot to ask for his personal contact information."
Such a thought came to Li Mo'an's mind.
"The only thing we can do is call the local police station and ask them to transfer me."
In his unconventional logic, this operation was perfectly logical and there was nothing wrong with it.
The phone was answered after a few rings.
A slightly tired female voice came through the receiver: "Hello, this is the Yanghai City Police Station."
Li Mo'an held the phone to his ear and spoke into the receiver in a casual tone, as if discussing the weather, "Is this the Yanghai City Police Station?"
"Yes, sir, this is the 110 emergency call center. How can I help you?" The female voice on the other end of the phone sounded young, and her tone maintained a professional politeness.
"Oh, I see."
Li Mo'an spoke calmly, his voice devoid of any emotional fluctuation.
"I've arrested over a hundred drug traffickers. Can you send some men?"
There was an instant silence on the other end of the line.
Inside the police station in Yanghai City, at Dongda University, thousands of miles away.
The duty room was brightly lit late at night, but the atmosphere was somewhat drowsy.
A young female operator in her early twenties was rubbing her sore eyes, forcing herself to keep her eyes open as she stared at the computer screen in front of her.
Just now, she received a phone call.
Then, she heard the words that made her wonder if she was hallucinating because she had been staying up too late.
"Did they arrest over a hundred drug traffickers?"
The female operator froze, her hand holding the pen suspended in mid-air, her expression somewhat blank.
She has been working here for almost a year, and the emergency calls she receives in the middle of the night are all kinds of things. Some are drunk people who can't find their way home and are crying, some are couples arguing and about to get a divorce, and some are even sleepwalking and have locked themselves out of the door, naked and asking for help.
But to announce the arrest of over a hundred drug traffickers so readily is absolutely unprecedented.
Moreover, the other person's voice sounded unusually calm, as if they were saying, "I just finished eating."
This stark contrast left the female operator speechless.
She frowned, immediately labeling the other person in her mind: a drunken brute who boasts without consequence.
She'd seen plenty of people like that; they'd call and spout nonsense, boasting about some earth-shattering feat they'd accomplished, just because they'd had a few drinks.
"In the middle of the night, they're talking about over a hundred drug dealers, and specifically asking for Chief Lei?"
The female operator was speechless. "This is outrageous! It's even bigger than the pie in the sky our boss paints in meetings."
In her view, such remarks were utterly absurd.
Before the female operator could fully recover from the absurd report, the calm voice on the other end of the phone continued.
"Just send Chief Lei. I communicated with him using code words beforehand and asked him to come and arrest the person."
Li Mo paused, then added a sentence, seemingly to explain why he didn't contact her directly.
"Why didn't I contact Chief Lei? I forgot to ask him for his contact information."
Upon hearing this "explanation," the female operator's eye muscles twitched involuntarily.
Good grief, they even used the code word? And forgot to ask for contact information?
The plot is actually quite convincing.
She was almost certain that the person on the other end of the phone was a drunkard, currently hiding in a private room at some karaoke bar, betting with his friends on whether he could trick them out of a hat.
The female operator took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the urge to hang up the phone immediately, and tried her best to make her tone sound relatively restrained.
She picked up the pen on the table, casually circled a line in the police report book, and then asked in a tone that was a mixture of helplessness and warning, "Sir, you...didn't drink too much today?"
She paused for a moment, then realized that asking that question might be impolite, so she changed to a more formal way of putting it.
"Bragging is illegal, no... sir, I mean, making a false police report is illegal and it seriously wastes public policing resources."
However, Li Mo'an did not seem to catch the warning in her words.
He wanted to continue explaining, to make the other party understand the seriousness of the matter.
But before he could speak again, the female operator on the other end of the phone had completely lost her patience.
"Sir, if you don't have any other emergency, please do not use the alarm line. Thank you for your cooperation."
After saying this formulaic closing remark, she decisively pressed the hang-up button.
Listening to the continuous "beep beep" busy tone coming from the receiver, Li Mo'an stood in the cool night breeze outside the country and blinked.
