Myth: I am God!
Chapter 2 The Land Bestowed by God
The disaster victims observed their surroundings.
After discussing it with the people around me for a while.
Soon, everyone reached a consensus, which was then relayed back to the leader.
"Yara, we agree to this suggestion... We have traveled for far too long, our food supplies are exhausted, and many children and women have died along the way... We no longer have the strength to reach the Kingdom of Argos in the east."
"And this place is indeed a good place with abundant resources."
"We will stay here..."
"Rebuild our home."
So the men among the disaster victims handed their children to the women behind them and gathered together. They cut down trees nearby and built simple shelters.
Some women without children went to pick berries and grapes.
The children without mothers went to the river in groups, trying to catch some fish from it.
As it turned out, the supplies in this place were far more abundant than the disaster victims had imagined.
The women could easily gather enough fruits and wild vegetables to feed everyone.
Even with a simple fishing net made of clothes, you can easily scoop up plump, delicious fish from the river—fish that are too heavy for an adult to lift.
Even the youngest child could catch many crayfish from the river that were bigger than his fist.
Everyone was all smiles, praising this good fortune bestowed by heaven.
but.
This good fortune did not favor Yara.
Yara was the one who suggested staying there; he was the leader of the refugee group.
At first, Yara, being a man, intended to help cut down trees and build camp.
But when he took out the rusty tools from the bag his wife had been guarding and was about to swing them to chop down the trees, the axe handle inexplicably broke, and the axe nearly chopped into his thigh.
Yara was startled and broke out in a cold sweat.
After that, Yara simply grabbed the broken axe and planned to chop down some small trees to use as the framework for building the tent.
However, as he broke off a sapling and kicked it to the ground, Yara suddenly heard a buzzing sound in his ears. He looked up and saw a nest of wasps on the sapling.
Yara narrowly escaped the wasps' attack by jumping into the river, only to be caught in a makeshift fishing net by the children. Unable to pull it out, the children assumed it was a large fish and called for adults. Under the expectant gazes of several adults, a soaking wet Yara was dragged ashore...
This caused Yara to lose face completely.
However, this is not enough to defeat Yara. As the leader, he has to do some work.
He intended to help the women pick fruit, but after he slipped on a stone and broke the third basket of grapes, the women chased Yara away.
In the end, Yara, who had been busy all day but had been working aimlessly, sat back down beside the bundle with a sense of dejection.
Yara's wife was very capable. Noticing that her husband was not feeling well, she took the initiative to set up the tent and also started a campfire, skewering fish and fruit pieces on branches and roasting them over the flames.
His wife handed Yara a cooked skewer, saying, "This place is wonderful. I love it."
Yara took the skewers. Having not eaten his fill in a long time, Yara wolfed them down. As he chewed, he complained to his wife, "It's really good, but I've had such a bad day."
His wife comforted him, saying, "I've heard fortune tellers say that when you're down on your luck, good fortune is just around the corner. In fact, if we can settle down here, build our home, cultivate our fields and orchards, and perhaps have a few more children, that would be the greatest blessing of all."
"..."
When Yara didn't respond for a long time, his wife assumed he was focused on eating and hadn't noticed what she was saying.
When she turned her head, she realized that Yara had choked because she had eaten too fast.
Yara, his face flushed, pounded his chest and stamped his feet, repeatedly striking his throat. His wife rushed to help, clearing the food that Yara was choking on...
Yara looked at his wife, then at the kebabs in his hand, and then back at his wife.
The two looked at each other without saying a word, remaining silent for a long time.
Just then, someone ran over from a distance, interrupting their time together.
"Yara, they want you to come over. They say they want to discuss things for the future."
Yara nodded, said goodbye to his wife, and hurried to the campfire in the center of the camp.
Several men were already sitting there; they were all representatives of the refugee group, and before the disaster, they were mostly village chiefs or prominent figures from nearby villages.
"Yara, you've come."
An old man called out and moved aside to make room for Yara to sit down.
The campfire crackled and sparks flew upwards.
Everyone stared at the flames, as if they could see that bright future reflected in them.
"On the map, this area belongs to the border region of the Kingdom of Argos... One thing I'm worried about is whether the Kingdom of Argos will expel us if they discover us in the future... or even punish us more severely."
When the old man saw that everyone had arrived, he spread out a yellowed parchment map that he had treasured for a long time and used it to mark their current location.
A pockmarked man beside him retorted, "I don't think there's any need to worry about that at all. Even if the kingdom discovers us, they'll just drive us away at most. Is our situation any worse than that?"
The old man did not rush to refute, but continued to offer his opinion: "King Argos has a bad reputation. If we use his territory without permission and do not ask him, he may be angry... and once he is angry..."
The old man didn't say anything more, but everyone understood his unspoken message: the king's anger was something they, as refugees, could not bear.
After hearing this, everyone fell silent, and then all eyes turned to Yara, for here, Yara was the one who could make the final decision.
"Yara, what do you think?"
"Oh... um?" Yara was still a little dazed as he looked around at the people around him.
He didn't answer them, but instead asked a strange question:
"Have you guys noticed... that map is glowing?"
"?"
Everyone was puzzled.
"There seem to be words too..."
Yara had learned some words, but the glowing words on the map didn't belong to any of the word classes he knew; they were entirely composed of consonants and were completely unpronounceable...
But it's so captivating that you can't look away, as if it possesses some kind of magic—
【YHVH】
"I...Yevi...Wan...Hua".
"What are you talking about, Yara? I feel like something's off about you today."
Yara finally realized his lapse in composure, shook his head to temporarily distract himself from the glowing map, and pondered for a moment the question between the old man and the man. He then said,
"We cannot abandon this land. And likewise, we cannot afford to offend King Argos."
"Therefore, it is necessary to consult with the King of Argos... However, we can act first and report later, first establish a foothold, let the women and children have houses to live in, accumulate some savings, and then shed some blood to prepare some tribute before going to pay homage to the King of Argos."
"I think that as long as we are sincere, our etiquette is proper, and our offerings meet his expectations, the king will not refuse a village that can pay tribute and taxes every year."
After Yara finished explaining her idea, the men around her expressed their approval, and the old man nodded as well.
"Okay, Yara is right about this, let's do it this way."
"The second thing... if we can really settle down here and build a village in the future, the village needs a name. What do you think we should name it?"
After thinking for a while, people had various opinions.
"Sanshan Village, it's surrounded by mountains on three sides, that's the name it should be."
"Dongsen, I think we're the only ones who would build a village in the eastern forest."
"You uncultured bumpkins, if you ask me, you should be called Nemeria Leon, the Lion of Nemeria!"
"Using a story meant to scare children as a name is so childish! Zeus Dick is much better! That's truly powerful and majestic!"
"..."
The arguments continued, mingling with the crackling of the campfire. A long-lost sense of peace gradually washed over Yara. He subconsciously glanced at the old man's map again, its golden, gentle light once more captivating his thoughts.
Suddenly, Yara spoke: "Canaan."
"Let's call it Canaan."
The murmurs gradually subsided, and they asked in confusion, "Canaan? What does that mean?"
Yara slowly raised his head, and, as if struck by a sudden inspiration, said—
"A land bestowed by God".
