I'm building Gundams in America
Chapter 6 A Bond Forged in Life and Death
On a street corner not far away, two corrupt cops didn't examine little Joey's body until Wayne and the others had completely disappeared.
The policeman, wearing goggles, whistled and grinned as he pulled a bag of brightly colored pills and two rolls of banknotes from the body's pocket.
"That's good, they're all new stock, they can fetch a good price...including him."
The tall, imposing policeman, who had nearly suffocated the homeless man, took the roll of banknotes offered by the man and frowned, saying:
"Was that homeless man really Bruce Wayne? How did he become homeless?"
The black-clad cop in goggles shrugged and said:
"This is America, anything is possible. It's all the same old stuff: debt, marriage, unemployment, drug abuse. After all, he's been washed up for years... Call the body collectors now."
The two returned to the car. The tall, burly policeman looked at his partner, a slight smile playing on his lips, and said:
"Remember my hometown, Utah? I know a big shot in Utah who's a big fan of Bruce Wayne and's been looking for a former child star like him. I think he might be interested in Wayne... I'll make a call."
……
In the alleyway on the street corner, two Black men looked at Wayne with eyes full of gratitude.
Especially the girl with the braids, who had just used her asthma inhaler and was still panting, had tears welling up in her eyes. She wiped the blood from her face, trembling as she tried to hug Wayne, and said:
"God, thank you, brother, you saved my life. I was about to suffocate, and you saved me, even though I treated you like that just now..."
"I'm sorry, I apologize for my initial rudeness..."
Wayne instantly saw a line of text flash above the other person's head:
Loyalty: A bond forged in life and death.
Wayne hugged the other person and said:
"Ahem...Shouldn't homeless people help each other? Ahem..."
As the bald man straightened his broken nose while tears streamed down his face, he raised his fist at Wayne and said:
"Hey bro, my name is Mike, this is David, are you really Bruce Wayne? I watched 'Golden Childhood' when I was a kid, my dad was still home then, and he said Bronjak was a really good kid."
Wayne bumped fists with the other man, then covered his mouth and coughed violently for a while before saying:
"Yes, it's me."
Mike hesitated for a few seconds, then said:
"Hey bro, you look pretty sick. If you don't have a place to rest—I don't know how you got here... but if you'd like, maybe you can stay with us."
Wayne nodded:
"I'd love to, bro."
"Great! I have a celebrity friend!" David exclaimed with a smile.
The two men led the way, quickly making their way along the street with Wayne. Before long, they arrived at a brightly lit, bustling street, where they saw some carts carrying frozen fish slowly driving by, and a market not far away.
Wayne was taken aback.
It turns out that this place is only a few blocks away from Seattle's main attractions and the world-famous Pike Place Market.
The street is picturesque, with the charm of Seattle's bohemian lifestyle and the beauty of a tourist area; there are even people playing the violin on the roadside.
Just a few blocks away lies a dilapidated scene of homeless people and garbage everywhere.
They are completely two different worlds.
After traveling south for a while and passing through bustling tourist areas, they finally arrived at a neighborhood that was quite different from the glittering, bustling streets they had just passed.
There are even signs with Chinese characters.
There are more homeless people on the streets, and more people are standing on the roadside in strange poses like statues.
An ambulance or police car, or both, would occasionally appear by the roadside to lift a homeless person lying on the ground into the vehicle.
Wayne even spotted the East University corpse collector he had encountered from afar.
Clearly, on this cold, rainy night, the number of corpses had increased somewhat.
"My God, we may have lost a lot of homeless people tonight," David said, shaking his head. "The abuse of enhancement agents is truly terrifying."
Seemingly sensing Wayne's surprise, Mike turned to Wayne and smiled:
"Brother, we're all good people. We never use enhancers, we only eat grass. I hope you can maintain this good habit."
By this time, Wayne had gradually accepted the Western University's definition of a good person and good habits, and nodded in agreement.
After an unknown amount of time, Wayne was already quite exhausted.
They passed through a Chinese-style archway that read "Chinatown" and arrived at a park with a red Chinese-style pavilion. There were many homeless tents on the street corners around the park.
The two found a locked black tent in a corner of the park, unlocked it, opened the door, and said to Wayne:
"Welcome to my humble abode."
Wayne looked inside and saw that the tent was fairly tidy, with a tarpaulin and several blankets on the ground, and there wasn't a strong smell.
These two homeless people were surprisingly clean.
It seems they were just out in the city center, and Chinatown was their real residence.
Wayne looked at the two smiling faces and for a moment felt a strange connection to Timon and Pumbaa.
Inside the tent, a middle-aged man was still lying. Hearing the noise at the door, he turned to look at the three people and said:
"Mike, you're back...cough cough...cough cough cough..."
You have discovered the dwellings of the Lower Nest Goblin tribe. Staying there for one night will grant you a reward.
Mike explained:
"This is my uncle Raymond. He's sick; he has a fever..."
As they were talking, Raymond coughed even more violently, coughing up a mouthful of blood.
He seemed to be even more ill than Wayne; you could even hear the wheezing in his lungs when he coughed.
Wayne greeted Raymond and, without any hesitation, crawled into the tent, followed by his dog Wick, who barked and then crawled in as well.
He was still a little weak after walking for so long and needed to rest as soon as possible.
With the dungeon system's goodwill rating backing him, he could temporarily trust these two people.
Thinking of this, Wayne took out the last two cephalosporin pills, swallowed one himself, and handed one to Raymond, saying:
"Eat it...cough cough...this is an antibiotic, it should...cough cough...help."
[You took a boosting medication, and your negative condition continues to improve.]
The group was taken aback when they saw the capsule in Wayne's hand.
Mike took the pill, helped his uncle Raymond take it, and watched him fall asleep before sighing and saying:
"Thank you, Wayne. He's been taking painkillers, but they don't seem to be helping much. We want to see a doctor, but the appointment is booked four months in advance... He doesn't meet the criteria for an emergency room right now, and the doctor will only prescribe painkillers..."
Wayne waved his hand to indicate that he was welcome, and then fell into a deep sleep. He didn't know how long he slept before he was awakened by a noisy commotion.
"We haven't seen any white kid. What's a Bacon Jack? Is it a kind of pizza? Sorry, I don't like pizza." It was Mike's voice.
"Listen up, this is our community, brother. You can't just barge in and question me like this." David's voice was particularly agitated. "But don't worry, if I really run into the people you're talking about, I'll call you."
Wayne frowned and reached into his pocket for the dagger.
The noise outside subsided, and after a few minutes, the tent was opened, and Mike and David crawled in, making a "shh" gesture to Wayne.
After a while, when there was no more sound outside, Mike said to Wayne:
"Brother, Big Daddy's men are looking for you. He's a small-time boss in the East District, but don't worry, we'll definitely help you stay hidden."
Wayne nodded slightly, understanding that it must still be about Old John's debt.
Although I got rid of two gang members yesterday, other homeless people might have seen me selling Old John's body.
However, since he had already struggled to survive from the brink of death, with the system's support, none of this mattered anymore.
You spent the night in a goblin's den, gaining 20 experience points.
Wayne looked at the panel.

His experience points increased by another 20, and he was already looking forward to what would happen after his experience points were full.
His stamina was at its maximum, but his body's foundation was too poor. Even at its maximum, it was only 30% of an ordinary person's, which was almost the same as an eight-year-old child's.
Moreover, after a night, his mental strength only recovered by 0.1, and his health barely reached 10.
The negative impact of that serious illness and weakness was too great; I had to continue taking medication and get better first.
However, the antibiotics have already run out.
Fortunately, I obtained the compound-making skill from Little Joey's corpse yesterday, and also got some memory fragments, which will come in handy.
Wayne immediately took out a roll of money and handed it to Mike, saying:
"Cough cough... Brother, do me a favor, go to the store and buy me a packet of fish medicine."
