Chapter 41 Elite, is that all?
Li De, disregarding his fight with the Wild Hunt general, turned and sprinted towards the elven defense line without hesitation.
"return!"
The Wild Hunt general roared, brandished his heavy sword, and strode after them.
Li De was prepared and, without stopping, unleashed a backhand Alder sign.
The Wild Hunt general was hit head-on. Although he was able to ignore the impact damage thanks to his armor, his steps were forced to pause for a moment.
Before he could take another step, another Alder was fired, followed by a third and a fourth.
The continuous magical shockwaves acted like layers of invisible walls, forcefully stopping the unstoppable Wild Hunt general in place.
Not far away, the Wild Hunt squad continued their assault on the Elf lines.
The Wild Hunt warrior swung his sword vertically, and the elf, unable to dodge in time, parried with his own sword. A sharp pain shot through his wrist bone, and the rapier was jolted into a dangerous curve.
Before he could retreat, the Berserker retaliated with a punch, the heavy gauntlet slamming into the elf's chest. Another Berserker promptly followed up with a fatal blow, severing the elf's head with a single sword strike.
More elves followed suit.
They were agile and swift, using stalagmites and stone pillars to maneuver and attack weak points such as gaps in armor, eye sockets, and joints with their long swords and short knives.
The Wild Hunt's armor-making craftsmanship far surpasses that of ordinary armor; a single, sharp blade grazes the armor, sending up a string of ear-piercing sparks, and even if it strikes a vital spot, it is blocked by the thick inner lining.
An elven warrior leaped into the air, his dagger aimed straight for the gap in the Wild Hunt's neck.
The Wild Hunt warrior neither dodged nor evaded, letting the dagger graz the armor plate, leaving a white mark. Then, with a large hand, he grabbed the elf's ankle and slammed him to the ground. He then strode forward and stepped on the elf's chest.
puff!
The elven warrior's chest caved in, and blood gushed from his mouth, yet he still struggled to raise his hand, trying to stab again.
The next moment, the cold blade pierced his neck, pinning him to the ground.
Another elven archer drew his bow and fired rapidly, the arrows tearing through the air and striking the Wild Hunt warrior's visor one after another.
However, the arrow shattered, and the Wild Hunt didn't even tilt his head.
The elves' lines have been completely torn apart, while the Wild Hunt's formation remains solid.
If one gets entangled, a companion will immediately come to the rescue with a sword; if one charges forward, two others will provide flank cover; even if the elves grab his legs, he will simply cut off his arm with a cold sword and continue forward, stepping on the blood.
The elves' light armor was no match for the Wild Hunt's heavy swords; their agile movements were rendered useless by the tight formation; and their exquisite swordsmanship only sent sparks flying when it struck the heavy armor.
They fell one after another, and then one after another pounced on them.
The sounds of bones cracking, groans, and blades piercing flesh rose and fell, yet not a single person retreated. The surviving elves continued to roar as they charged toward the moving steel fortress, using their flesh and blood to fill the gaps in the Wild Hunt's flawless coordination.
In just a few dozen breaths, the ground was covered with the corpses of elves, their blood meandering across the cold ground before freezing again, forming crimson frost flowers all over the ground.
Olivia watched helplessly as her people died one after another, tears streaming down her face.
After the Wild Hunt warriors took over the main attack mission, the wraiths were completely unleashed and immediately surrounded her.
She poured all her energy into her spell, and lightning exploded, leaping and flashing wildly among the ghosts. Patches of phantoms were pierced by the lightning and disintegrated into smoke amidst shrieks, clearing a small clearing in the sea of ghosts.
But just as she was about to step forward to provide support, more ghosts flooded the gap like a tide, pressing up layer upon layer, almost swallowing her whole.
The druid watched with eyes wide with rage.
If this drags on any longer, everyone will die here.
Without further hesitation, he pressed his hands hard against the cold ground and uttered ancient and hoarse natural incantations from his throat.
The thick vines, coiled like giant pythons, suddenly revived under the infusion of magic.
The withered black skin burst open, and tender buds grew wildly, instantly forming flower buds. Pale purple and silvery white flowers bloomed in the darkness.
A strong and intoxicating fragrance burst forth with pollen, engulfing the entire cave like a thick fog.
The next moment, the world turned upside down.
The dark cave has disappeared, replaced by a dilapidated ancient architectural complex.
Towering broken pillars, collapsed domes, and shattered marble and skeletons littered the ground.
Countless skeletal warriors, clad in tattered ancient armor and wielding rusty swords, rose from the ruins, their empty eye sockets burning with soul fire, roaring as they charged toward the Wild Hunt.
Even the Wild Hunt projection, which should have been immune to illusions, was forcibly dragged into the illusion.
They looked around blankly, unable to distinguish between reality and illusion, and instinctively raised their swords to fight the corpses.
The Wild Hunt general was also entangled by several corpses. He swept his heavy sword, and the dried corpses broke in two, but more corpses surged in like a tide.
Li De's vision blurred, the world spun, and the surrounding scenery was completely distorted.
He was stunned for a moment, then didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"How did you manage to pull me into the illusion too?"
Those with the Dharma Source physique have a natural resistance to illusions. Wherever they go, the surrounding illusions become turbulent and blurred like ripples on water, and they break free and return to reality in just a few seconds.
The scene before me was one of utter chaos.
The Wild Hunt general rampaged through the ghosts, tearing apart large swathes of projection with every swing of his greatsword; the Wild Hunt warriors were entangled by the illusions and could barely move; the elves, caught in the illusion, were gently swung around by the druid's vines and thrown one after another into the portals that shimmered with green light behind them.
Without further hesitation, Li De charged forward.
The Igni sign erupted from his palm, flames swept across, and the ghosts that blocked his path turned to ashes.
He charged into the chaotic battlefield, his figure like a ghost, weaving through the gaps in the Wild Hunt warriors' wild swings. His steel sword swung wildly, severing weapons and shattering armor, leaving fragments of limbs scattered in his wake. In just a few moves, he wiped out the once-arrogant Wild Hunt squad.
The druid could no longer hold on and collapsed weakly to his knees, his disheveled hair soaked with cold sweat and plastered messily to his forehead.
Li De cleared a space with his longsword: "Your illusion magic is no good. You can't distinguish friend from foe, and you almost got me caught in the trap."
"Don't be ungrateful," the druid said, panting heavily, his voice trembling.
"I can't hold on much longer, hurry and get into the portal."
Illusions also rely on the real environment, such as the illusionary boulder at the entrance of a cave in a deserted village, or the elves disguising moderate rain as a downpour when they raid a manor.
This illusion technique, which creates virtual realms out of thin air that have nothing to do with reality and can even pull in projected ghosts with only low-level intelligence, almost cost him half his life.
Beside the portal, the last injured elf was also dragged into the green light by the vines.
Li De raised an eyebrow.
"I have no interest in your new world, you can leave."
The druid looked up abruptly, his eyes filled with disbelief: "So you want to stay here and die? Olivia, you go too, I'll cover your retreat!"
Olivia was leaning against a stalagmite, panting heavily.
"I can't leave. The Wild Hunt can track spatial traces. If I leave, I'll eventually find a new world through a portal."
She looked at Li De, her lips moved as if she wanted to say to destroy the portal base, but the magical contract on her body was like a shackle, leaving her in a dilemma.
The druid shouted urgently, "We've been exposed! The Wild Hunt's reinforcements are endless! Even if we had ten times our manpower, we'd still be worn down here. Let's get out of here!"
Just as the group was arguing, a buzzing sound suddenly rang out from deep within the cave.
The charred-black Wild Hunt mage had broken free from the illusion. He raised his staff high and slammed the end of it heavily onto the ground.
hum!
The pollen has dispersed, and the illusion has shattered.
The ghosts stood there blankly, seemingly wondering where the enemy had gone.
The Wild Hunt general snapped out of his daze and found himself frantically hacking at his ghostly minions. The ground around him was covered in the white ash left by the ghosts' deaths, clearly the result of his "poisonous hand".
Before a ghost that had just escaped the illusion could react, the illusory longsword struck his shoulder armor with a "clang".
His face turned ashen as he grabbed the ghost's arm and slammed it to the ground.
Looking back, he saw his Wild Hunt squad lying scattered and bleeding in pools of blood.
"Illusion?!"
"Damn it!" He waved his hand angrily, and the ghosts, regaining their senses, quickly regrouped and followed him on both sides.
Realizing that dealing with the group wouldn't be so easy, the Wild Hunt commander decided to change his strategy.
He stopped a short distance away from the three men and said in a conciliatory tone, "Give up. You have nowhere to escape. Hand over the manuscript, and I will spare your lives."
Olivia's tears hadn't dried yet, and as if she'd heard a joke, she replied with a cold laugh in Elvish.
"Karanhir said the same thing last time, and what happened? He slaughtered most of my people, and now he wants the manuscript? Dream on!"
The cold, ghostly blue soulfire beneath the visor glanced at the sorceress with surprise and disdain, as if to say, "Who's talking to you?" before turning to Li De.
"Witcher, listen carefully. You are surrounded by countless wails. We are the same kind of people. Cut off their heads, and the gates of the Wild Hunt will still be open to you."
"You should hire a cultured deputy yourself. I've already told you I don't understand Elvish."
Li De gently shook his sword, wiping away the blood on its blade.
The Wild Hunt general was silent for a moment, then shook his head. The Wild Hunt mage stepped forward and said in Common Tongue, "The general has given you a chance to join us, but in exchange, you will need the heads of these two men."
"Even when hiring, electronics factories need to talk about benefits and compensation. Do you think you can just make me give up with empty promises?"
Li De chuckled and gently moved his left hand behind his back, signaling Olivia to lead the druids into the portal first.
The Wild Hunt mage raised his head arrogantly: "Every Wild Huntsman is a battle-hardened elite. It is your greatest honor to join us."
Li De didn't reply. He glanced at the Wild Hunt fragments lying on the ground not far away, then at the Wild Hunt mage, and raised an eyebrow slightly.
It's as if they're saying: Elite, is that all?
