Chapter 52 Puzzle
"That piece! Put that piece on the far right! Yes, yes, yes! Cover that line!"
"You bunch of minotaurs, drag that piece this way! Pull harder! Haven't you eaten?!"
"Rock monster, don't move! Let that piece fall first! You're blocking the way!"
Vivian was passionately directing the monsters to piece together this epic "puzzle".
When we got to the twelfth piece, a small problem arose.
A piece of wood landed too far off course and crashed into a makeshift building made of planks and sheet metal at the edge of a clearing.
"Why is the toilet built there? Now it's gone..." Ian said, somewhat puzzled.
Lilith looked at the small house from afar: "Oh, that's Kiki's house and lab. There are probably a lot of explosives inside."
Qiqi stared wide-eyed at the forest crashing down on her life's work.
"No! My art!"
boom!
The forest landed, and the little house was gone.
As the smoke and dust cleared, some broken planks and twisted metal sheets were scattered around the plot of land, and occasionally wisps of black smoke would seep out from the cracks in the ground.
The entire room fell silent.
Kiki slowly turned her head and looked at Charles in disbelief.
Charles, expressionless, uttered a phrase Kiki often used: "Don't panic, it's just a technical adjustment, isn't it?"
Kiki glared at Charles through gritted teeth: "You did this on purpose!"
She listlessly pulled a rope from her backpack and walked to the edge of the open space under a towering tree, seemingly intending to hang herself.
Vivian laughed so hard she couldn't stand up straight: "Hahaha, Charles, you're so mean!"
Charles remained unfazed: "Eh? I didn't, it's just a minor deviation."
The puzzle continues.
As the fifteenth piece landed, a large goblin poked its head out from the edge of the forest. It looked around blankly and immediately spotted Ian and Lilith in the best viewing spot.
Then I saw Vivian with a frown, rock monsters, minotaurs, and dwarves.
A slime? Nestled in a fairy's arms? A dragon? And hundreds of monsters staring intently at him...
"Damn it, I'm surrounded by an army of monsters?"
Goblin felt that he had only occasionally committed misdeeds in his life, and was by no means a villain. He would occasionally cut down adventurers and drag some people back to his lair... What did he do to deserve being targeted by a dragon!
The goblin in front of them was clearly unable to withstand such a violent impact.
His eyes rolled back, and he fell straight down.
"Dizzy?" Lilith frowned.
"Goblins are good stuff..." Ian said. "When he wakes up, let him point out where the nest is. A family should work together as a whole..."
As one forest after another was teleported in, the scene became more chaotic, but fortunately, due to prior planning, nothing too serious happened.
During this time, Vivian even transformed into her true form and personally moved a piece of forest.
The entire receiving project was nearing its end amidst much noise and commotion.
……
As dusk fell, the last patch of forest appeared in the air.
That was the largest area, the settlement of the half-elves, the location of the Ancient Tree of Wisdom, and the heart of the Sweet Forest.
At the edge of the forest, several treehouses can be vaguely seen, and a clear stream meanders through the woods. The ancient tree of wisdom stands quietly in the center, its branches and leaves lush and full of life.
The rock monsters were on high alert, and hundreds of stone hands opened simultaneously, ready to meet this enormous creature.
"Slow down! Slow down!" Charles personally directed. "To the right! Further to the right! Okay! Release it slowly!"
The land parcel slowly descended, getting closer and closer to the ground.
ten meters.
five meters.
three meters.
one meter.
boom!
The ground shook violently, and dust rose dozens of meters high.
Once the dust settled, the half-elf settlement was firmly located on the edge of the dragon territory, right next to the previously pieced-together forest.
A few seconds later, the roots of the ancient tree of wisdom moved.
They seemed to come alive, stretching out from the bottom of the plot and plunging deep into the soil of Dragon's Territory.
One, two, ten, hundreds...
The roots grow wildly, penetrating rock crevices, soil layers, and deep underground.
Then, the whole tree began to glow.
Pale golden light shone through the tree trunks and leaves, illuminating a large area around it, and continued to spread throughout the entire forest along with the inherent magical energy of the Sweet Forest.
Wherever the light reached, the trees that had been drooping from the teleportation straightened up and their leaves unfurled again.
The half-elves emerged from the forest.
The elder, leaning on her wooden cane, walked shakily at the front. Behind her followed dozens of tribespeople, including young warriors, priests, and children.
Each person wore a complex expression: unease, confusion, and occasionally, a hint of expectation in the faces of the half-elf.
The elder walked up to Vivian and bowed deeply.
"Your Excellency Dragon, the Half-Elf tribe reports for duty."
Vivian tilted her head to look at her, chewing on a berry she'd somehow produced: "Mmm, welcome, welcome~ You'll be living here from now on, remember to pay your taxes on time~"
The Grand Elder paused for a moment, then asked, "Tax?"
"Yes, taxes~" Vivian counted on her fingers, "Ten percent of the output each month, no hiding anything, no underpaying, no..."
She thought about it for a while, but couldn't come up with a third option.
"I said no, and that means no!" she concluded confidently.
The Grand Elder paused for two seconds, pondering to himself, "How is this a little easier than living within the sphere of influence of the human kingdom? It seems the demons aren't as greedy as the rumors say..."
"...As you wish."
Alvin stood with his head down in the crowd.
The burn marks around his neck were clearly visible; they were left by Ian and were the greatest shame of his life.
He stood in the shadows of his people, without uttering a word.
The elder turned and glanced at him, a hint of worry in her eyes, but she said nothing.
After completing the puzzle, the half-elves began preparing their new home. The treehouse needed rebuilding, the stream needed cleaning, and a new barrier needed to be set up around the ancient tree of wisdom.
Everyone was busy, except for Alvin, who stood aside like a stone.
In the evening, he found the Grand Elder.
"I'm leaving," he said.
The elder looked at him and slowly asked, "Where to?"
"The human kingdom." Elwin raised his head, a suppressed fire burning in his eyes. "I want to become stronger."
The Grand Elder didn't ask "why," she knew.
"You hate him?"
Irwin did not answer.
The Elder sighed, "Elwin, I know you have a thorn in your side. But that slime... he saved the ancient tree, he saved our home. That's a debt of gratitude."
"The gratitude belongs to everyone," Alvin shook his head, "Only the shame is mine."
The elder opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, it only turned into a sigh.
"Go ahead," she waved her hand.
Erwin knelt down, kowtowed to her, then stood up and walked towards the edge of the forest without looking back.
As night fell, his figure disappeared into the shadows of the Sweet Forest.
Unbeknownst to him, a pair of eyes were watching him from the direction he left.
That's Lilith.
She had her eye on Elwin long ago, and as she watched his disappearing figure, she frowned...
